Nairalanders, I need your advice on an issue.

I moved to a new environment 3 months ago for an IT programme, so I am currently staying with family friend. The first week I arrived I was trying to help with basic house chores but the husband and wife told me to drop it, that since their kids are around I don’t have a reason to help with the house chores.

Fast forward to now that schools have resumed, the kids barely have time for house chores except on weekends which sometimes leave the dishes unwashed. These chores are always done by the wife every morning while she still have to cook and also prepare to go to her workplace, though she has her business.

Now, I don’t really know how to help because anytime I feel like offering some help I always have the intuition that I will blocked again. This is not who i am, where I am from, despite having grown siblings I still have duties at home, I sweep and cook.

I’m a male, in my very early twenties though I have full beards and fully grown figure, I think that’s why they find it hard to accept my help.

I don’t know, but the wife’s countenance looks a little bit cold these days. I don’t know if she’s being territorial, I just hate this feeling.

Guys Abeg I need your advice, all I do is eat, go to my IT placement, come back home, sleep and eat.
I’m feeling like an outcast already

You want to start a fast food business....

Instead of building a name from scratch that people will trust over a long period of time....

instead, you go the franchise way by approaching sweet sensation(franchisor) who already has a big name and products that customers are used to.....after agreement

You will use their brand to set up ur own place. U will need to stick to their system and mode of operation ... because a dent from ur outlet is a dent on their brand name.....nobody knows it’s not original sweet sensation....
And of course... u will pay royalty to sweet sensation regularly for using their established brand
thank you

I don't know if you have any mentorship program or something ,but I would sure like to be under your mentorship .

I'm a young Nigerian, but I'm getting older everyday and judging by your posts (I've been an avid follower) you seem to have a vast knowledge about how things work and I could really use some of your advice.

What characters should a person who wants to be successful in this present Nigeria have?

My answer is simple... Life is driving you somewhere nd all you're facing isn't problems unless u make it so urself... they're just developments u should work on.

Face real life nd forget what u see in books... I can't tell u what real life is all about here cuz its not meant to be tot in public so that's why many gives unrealistic or poor man's advice every time.

Have been in ur situation before so I can understand u well well.

One last advice, learn everything u want to do before doing it... know d in's nd d out's b4 setting in... example is Gambling, I c ppl telling u not to nd so on.... dis is wat I was saying..... they're only saying things in some book nd not real life, ppl has made millions out of it nd still making it nd ppl also have lost their fortune to it... that's why I said study whatever u want b4 choosing it.

You want money? Study money first, forget about ur frnds nd other making it before u... focus on learning about money first... in fact don't make it until u understand it nd do so with anything nd everything u want to do. Best of luck, thats my own take.

Thanks

Honestly, I understand you. I won’t say I’ve entirely been in your position, but I know how it feels to be pressured, how it feels to want to make some money, to be independent. Trust me I do.

I won’t say I’ve gotten around the situation. There were times I wanted to die, to end the misery but I couldn’t because I had a family I wanted to make proud.

First thing love yourself. When you start getting worked up about the situation of things it’s because you lack self assurance. That everything would be fine.

Trust be everything would be fine in the end, and if it’s not fine. Then it’s not the end.

Learn a skill, get busy even if what you’d earn might be chicken feed. Still do it.

And as for your mum, I pray she gets better. But at the moment, you have to be strong.

I’m a writer too and we can link up so if I get any writing gigs I can let you know.
Yes I would really love that , can I send you a pm?

2. Search for "Yahoo small business", it's part of Yahoo mail services, they'll give you a domain name for free, for a year.
Use the domain name and set up a blog on .com, write unique 20 contents and then apply for Google AdSense, work on SEO and earn money through traffic.

I really love this, thank you so much

Yes, to an extent. It's not gona be a quick fix to the problem though as a nice career in writing often takes much of ones time. But you can just start developing it, reading more and writing more. You can nonetheless find more about "writing" via internet or YouTube also.
Okay , thanks

2k likes means you're an active NL user, why don't you monetize your nairaland usage just the way bloggers and ebook sellers do?
Thing is, you're used to the traditional pattern of "getting a job" do any other means of making money for you is abnormal.
No it is not.
As far as it is paying and legit I'm all in.

Do you have idea on how I can go about that?

Hey,

I read your post with keen interest. I will advice you as a fellow youth, within the same age bracket.
You sound totally worried in the inside, but hey, never give up. Giving up is not an option.. never be a looser by conceding defeat.

I will advice you to just hustle, get a skill and sell yourself. This is exactly what so many youths of same age bracket pass through. You said you are a young undergraduate. If you school in a government owned university, I will advice you to go and learn how to produce snacks. You can download video tutorials from YouTube or meet people who are willing to teach you. HUNGER NO FIT KILL STUDENTS. Meet people who sell drinks and minerals in and within the school premises, talk with them and see how you can supply them. I know of a guy in a Federal University in the East, all he does is prepare peanuts, meat pie, and many more, delivers them to people who sell on a daily basis. This dude just bought a bicycle from that and he is still delivering, taking care of himself and fees. You can even prepare and deliver to your mum to sell for you in her shop and give account to you.

If you're good in writing, you can write and sell. Just don't be entrapped within your own confinement. Come out and mingle, other students will tell you legit hustles that they do to get little money on a daily basis and look for any one that suits you.

But never forget the main purpose for you being in school.. Find time and read. Follow your passion and God will bless you. Success comes with a story..

DO NOT LET YOUR STORY DEFINE YOUR SUCCESS NEGATIVELY

Do you have any idea on how the "writing career" , thank you so much

Your first problem is inferiority complex. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery......

You will go as far as you can see. I know of a doctor today in fact a Chief consultant now who told me throughout her uni she had less than 3 clothes. My mum even said the day she went to greet her at OOU she burst into years seeing her little sister with cloth patched in obvious angles with different thread and needle colour. Today she's doing real fine can't Even know she went through shit unless she's trying to advise struggling youths or myself when I misbehave. Lots of sons stories that ended up glorious. Its all in the head.
Thanks you so much

Dust up and move. Life ain't easy. I trained myself in school doing concrete and block works. There's basically nothing I didn't do to make ends meet. When you know you have nobody to help you, you will have no other option than to hustle for yourself. And, pls keep believing

My advice? Don't lose hope, dust up and move.
Thank you
