#EndSARS EXCLUSIVE: IG Adamu prepares to announce immediate scrapping of brutal police squad Muhammed Adamu’s statement is currently being prepared and will be made public shortly, handing the Nigerian people a major victory. Inspector-General Muhammed Adamu is set to announce immediate abolition of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Peoples Gazette can report, handing the Nigerian people a major victory in their push to end decades of police brutality. Mr. Adamu’s statement is currently being prepared and will be made public before the end of the day, the Gazette learnt from top police and presidency sources on Saturday morning. The announcement was initially scheduled to be made on Friday after Mr. Adamu met with President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, but was thwarted after presidential spokesman Femi Adesina said the administration should not surrender to Twitter warriors. Mr. Adesina then proceeded to issue the highly-criticised statement that appeared to cast the president as insensitive to the #EndSARS campaign, which has gained worldwide backing over the past week. Mr. Adamu has now finally been asked to “announce this afternoon as things are getting out of hand,” the Gazette learnt. Mr. Adamu was also initially scheduled to meet with top civil society players in Abuja on Friday to make the announcement, which was preempted by Mr. Adesina’s interjection. A top police source told the Gazette that President Buhari was finally convinced that the protest should not go into a new week because it is a decentralised movement with millions of young people with little experience in public agitation. On Saturday, Jimoh Isiaq was killed in Ogbomoso after police officers opened fire on protesters. Many others were injured and remained in critical conditions as of Sunday morning. https://peoplesgazette.com/endsars-exclusive-ig-adamu-prepares-to-announce-immediate-scrapping-of-brutal-police-squad/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

The Senate, on Wednesday, ordered the arrest and prosecution of operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad who were involved in the recent killings of innocent Nigerians across the country. The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, stated this while ruling on the Senate resolution on a motion by Senator Oluremi Tinubu Tinubu, in her motion, drew the attention of her colleagues to the recent extra-judicial killings and human rights abuses by SARS operatives. Lawan said a mere dismissal of overzealous and reckless operatives was not enough but that they must be made to face the full wrath of the law. He said, “Those who are involved in the recent killings of innocent Nigerians should be arrested and prosecuted. “Scrapping the SARS now may not be the best option because the nation may lose the best hands in the agency while trying to do away with the bad eggs among them. “The dismissal of the bad ones among them is not also enough. Offenders must be arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.” The red chamber also mandated its committee on Police, Judiciary and Human Rights to probe human rights abuses of Nigerians by SARS operatives in the last few years. The chamber asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to establish a special unit that will constantly investigate and monitor the conduct of SARS operatives. It also directed the authorities of the Nigerian Police Force to utilise part of its trust fund to trains its operatives. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has told the opposition political parties in the State that the forthcoming October 20 governorship election will not be the same as the last Saturday polls in Edo State. The Ondo APC also said it was full of confidence that the election petition tribunal will sack Governor Godwin Obaseki and give APC victory in Edo State, because according to it, Saturday’s election was marred by rigging . The APC said that anyone saying it would lose the October 10 governorship election in Ondo the same way it did in last Saturday’s polls in Edo should think again. Alex Kalejaiye, the party’s Spokesman in the State pointed out that Ondo APC was united and that all stakeholders were working towards ensuring victory. He further alleged that the victory of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, and Governor Godwin Obaseki in Edo State was marred by electoral fraud that would be challenged at the tribunal. According to him, “The APC in Edo State is full of hope that the denials at the election would be redressed in court. “The Ondo State chapter is full of confidence that the good works of the Akeredolu led administration would speak in volumes during the election in October.” “We are confident of victory, and the opposition parties are not unaware of the degree of popularity of the ruling party,” the party’s Spokesman said in a statement... https://dailypost.ng/2020/09/22/edo-apc-reveals-why-tribunal-will-sack-obaseki-boasts-ahead-of-ondo-election/

A mobile police officer attached to De Topic supermarket at the Elelenwo area of Port Harcourt has shot and killed a 20-year-old aspiring artist, Daniel Chibuike to death. Chibuike, popularly known as Sleek was gunned down on Saturday around 4 pm after he and a friend were accosted by the operatives of the Special Ant-Robbery Squad, SARS. The late singer and his friend, Reuben, however, took to their heels upon sighting the SARS operative, who in turn chased them and began screaming that they were thieves. It was gathered that the duo ran towards the busy market in Elelenwo community before the MOPOL officer intercepted them and shot Chibuike thrice. According to sources, the duo where coming out of Reuben’s house when the SARS operatives began chasing them. The sources further revealed that the SARS operatives, all of a sudden, started screaming that the duo were thieves prompting the MOPOL officer to open fire on them. The sources who craved anonymity said Sleek died due to the inability of the police officers to take him to the hospital despite pleadings from his friend, adding that they left him to blead to death in front of the supermaket. It was gathered that the Ruben was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Deparment from the Miniokoro police station while the police officers involved were also detained by the state police command. Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has reacted angrily and called for the dissolution of SARS after the killing https://twitter.com/NyesomWlKE/status/1307988088573046784?s=208088573046784?s=20

President Muhammadu government has come under attack over the compulsory registration of self-certification forms. The Buhari-led government had on Thursday ordered that all Nigerians with account holders in any financial institution must obtain, complete and submit Self–Certification Forms. The forms are required by the relevant financial institutions to do due diligence procedures in line with the Income Tax Regulations 2019. The government announced that failure to adhere to this instruction will attract sanctions, which may include monetary penalty or inability to operate the account. This development has led to criticisms from Nigerians on Twitter, accusing the government of always making life difficult for Nigerians. Some Nigerians queried the importance of BVN and National ID card, if every account holder needs to fill out a self certification form in the midst of pandemic. Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter: @AyoOyalowo “ BVN. National Driver’s license. National ID card. INEC registration. International Passport. Biometrics were taken in all these places. Why do you people like to see us suffer in queues for no reason? Can’t you take whatever data you need already? This is just so wrong.” @Omojuwa “ Na you do National ID card, na you do SIM registration, you even did Bank Verification Number to align accounts but you are here again talking “Self-Certification. Even if you are confused about running government, can you at least pretend not to be confused? @OfficialMrSeun “All the above mentioned have all our biometrics and facial recognition. What the heck is self certification? @Ogbenidipo “ Small time they will ask us to go and bring the left finger of our dead grand mothers. Because after BVN, Drivers Licence, International Passport, Birth Certificate, SIM registration, National ID card, I don’t know what else they want.” @Mccoyinnocent “ They will even ask us to submit our death certificates by ourselves.” @OkusegunVerdict “ BVN. Driver’s license. National ID card. INEC registration. International passport. Biometrics were taken in all these places. So, what is the meaning of this? @Victor_Terhemba “ This has got to be the most stupid government in the entire world. Why couldn’t the FG mandate the banks or FIRS to provide an online platform where customers can fill this form. And since we have BVN linked to all accounts, you don’t have to fill the form multiple times.” @IamWakajeje “ Obtain, complete, and submit a SELF – CERTIFICATION FORM? So BVN registration looks like a third-party certification form to you guy? We are in 2020 for Christ sake, you guys should have senses.” @DocTour “ Dear Government of Nigeria, for once in your 60 years of existence, have some sense. You wake up and just decide to make life difficult. Are you the only country in the world? Do you want to ruin your citizens? Why? You have no shame? Kind regards.” @Islimfit “ Forward-thinking Nations are building digital solutions to solve various problems. But in 2020, our own government still wants us to go queue under the sun to fill and submit “self a certification” forms despite National ID, BVN, Voters Card etc. Suffer no dey taya you? https://dailypost.ng/2020/09/18/nigerians-attack-buhari-govt-over-registration-of-self-certification-forms/
