Orji o orji: God punish ASUU set of greedy fellow... What ? Bt why cant state own universities pull out of ASUU ?What you need is proper education before you start abusing the wrong people. (See my post above). |
amaboss: Corruption everywhere. Before I heard ASUU was fighting to improve the university educational system and infrastructure, now they are asking for N92Billion, I.e. N92,000,000,000 just for ordinary ALLOWANCE!!! My God!!! Now what about the N12500 increment in salary I was hearing they were also clamouring for? This people finally are not interested in improving any shit, they're just looking out for themselves! Are you following the issues on ground at all? ASUU is not making fresh demands. ASUU's battle is for the implementation of an agreement signed with this same Federal Government in 2009 and which the government agreed would bail out the university system from the present morass then. You sound like there is a new negotiation and, therefore, fresh demands by ASUU! The politicians are only trying to mislead the public. The questions now are: if this federal government willingly partook in the signing of a document in 2009, did it not know that it has to honour it? Did it not understand the implications of the agreement? Why did it not tell ASUU then that the demands cannot be met as Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is now quoted to be saying? Why did it sign the agreement? And having signed the agreement, did it not think it has to be honourable enough to respect it? The truth is: ASUU has gone through all this before: blackmail by government. Like before, the blackmail will fail. The contradictions in the utterances coming from government quarters presently suggest that this government is very confused indeed. This battle, from all indications, will certainly be long |
JOHANNESBURG — South African women married to Nigerians, yesterday, threatened to stage mass protest in Johannesburg to stop discrimination against them, their husbands and children. Mrs Lindelwa Uche, the chairperson of the United Nigerian Wives in South Africa, UNWISA, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria during the launch of the association, Sunday, in Johannesburg. Uche said that South African society did not take their marriage to Nigerians as serious relationship. She said: “Our society does not take our marriages serious, they see our marriages as relations of convenience and perceive us as evil to the society. “All of us are South Africans married to Nigerians living in South Africa, we decided to come together to fight against stigmatisation, discrimination, and humiliation, against our families by government departments and agency and the officials of the government, the community and our-in-laws.” The chairperson said an earlier protest march by the members of the association had not generated any response from the Home affairs office. “We protested against discrimination from home affairs officials in March this year, and since after that protest we have not received any response from the government. We felt before we embark on any further action we should come together and form an association registered by law. “After the official launch of our association, our next action will be more than just a protest march to the city of Johannesburg home affairs office. It is going to be a protest where we will strip on the street of Johannesburg, so that people and government will know that there is an existing body and that we are not happy with the way our non South Africans husband and children are being treated. “We also plan to carry our protest to Nigeria, we know that some South Africans also have businesses in Nigeria, if it is necessary we will take actions that will stop South Africa businesses operating in Nigeria. Indeed we are ready to go that far. “We have been quiet for so long but we cannot can’t take it anymore, for the sake of the future of our children, we have to put an end to this discrimination.” She said there was need for them to collectively tackle the issue of some Nigerians residing in South Africa being unfairly separated from their families due to pending residence permit that eventually lead to deportations. “If we don’t stand up as daughter of the soil and fight discrimination against our marriages who will, if we don’t stand up and fight for the rights of our husbands when they are being violated and treated shabily by officials of the government and citizens alike who will. “If we don’t stand up for our children when they are being called derogatory names like “Small lee kwere-kwere” or turning their natives names upside down deliberately by our community in the name of making them feel like aliens, outcast, and unwelcome, or even when their Nigerian aunties and uncles call them bustards, then their future is in jeopardy. “If we don’t stand up when our countrymen and women, officials and in-law address us as paper wives, gold diggers, stupid and opportunist, who will do that for us, ” Uche queried. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/s-african-women-married-to-nigerians-threaten-protest/

BY EMMA ARUBI WARRI — SIX mobile policemen attached to the Ondo State Police Command have been arrested for shooting a tanker driver, simply identified as Mr. Friday, dead and setting the truck ablaze, last Wednesday. They are currently being detained at the state police headquarters, Akure, having allegedly confessed to committing the crime. A Warri-based business man, Mr Muminogho Orogboh, the owner of the brand new trailer truck head coming from Lagos to Warri told Vanguard that the six policemen stopped his truck at about 2. a.m close to the Ore toll gate and after questioning the driver, allowed him to continue his journey only for them to shoot at him in company of his manager, Mr. Henshell Gbugbadia who escaped death by the whiskers by running into the bush. The policemen, it was gathered, thought the manager was also dead in the bush and reversed the new trailer head toward Lagos direction and set it ablaze to blot out any evidence. Gbugbadia later called his Managing Director to brief him on the development and the matter was reported at the Ore toll gate police station from where the patrol team on duty that night were summoned and disarmed, having denied knowledge of the incident. Explaining further, Muminogho said the DPO in charge of the Ore Police station then ordered that the truck be brought to the station. The Police Commissioner later sent for the suspected policemen. After orderly trial, they allegedly confessed to the crime, saying they had to burn the dead driver and the truckhead to erase any trace of the incident because they did not know that the manager survived. According to Muminogho, the Chairman of NUPENG Rig Move in Warri, Comrade Ochuko, said they had taken over the matter to ensure justice and adequate compensation to the family of the deceased driver including a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspected mobile policemen. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/6-policemen-nabbed-for-killing-driver-burning-truck/ |

BY CHINENYEH OZOR NSUKKA — The university town of Nsukka in Enugu State has witnessed yet another brutal death as a tipper driver who allegedly impregnated a widow and her daughter has reportedly been burnt to death by son of the widow, Sunday Ugwoke. Vanguard gathered that the tipper driver, Sylvester Ezema, attached to Ferguson Nig. Limited hailed from Akpa Edem, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State and shared a common fence boundary with his widowed lover, Mrs. Ugwoke. Report said he had been having amorous dealings with the woman’s daughter too unknown to the widow before he died a few days ago. According to report, Sylvester was allegedly burnt to death by Sunday, who had warned him to leave his mother alone and stop making love with her in his late father’s bedroom, which is adjacent to his room, a warning the deceased allegedly turned down and continue with his amorous act. Vanguard gathered that Sylvester defied all the warnings by Sunday, saying the widow was a family friend and as such nobody would suspect them. Having defied his warning, Sunday, armed with grinded pepper and petrol ambushed the lover boy. As Sylvester stepped out of the house, Sunday poured the powder pepper and petrol on Sylvester and set him ablaze. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/man-burnt-to-death-for-impregnating-mother-daughter/ |

BY IFEANYI OKOLIE LAGOS — On Sunday, July 14, 2013, a deadly gang of robbers, led by notorious robbery czar, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka, Godogodo, attacked a warehouse belonging to Blessing Aporie Nigeria Limited at Ajao Estate area of Lagos State and carted away mobile phones worth more than N50 million. The robbers also killed a policeman on guard at the warehouse, leaving one other with severe bullet wounds. Five members of that gang were later killed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, during a shoot-out along Eko Bridge while three others escaped with bullet wounds. However, operatives of SARS, led by Superintendent of Police, Abba Kyari, have arrested the three bandits who escaped during the shoot-out and they have confessed to the crime and narrated how Godogodo led them through the operation, which turned out to be his last in Lagos. Sources at SARS said four teams of operatives were deployed that night to track down the robbers when news of the incident and the attack on policemen filtered in. The trail Vanguard gathered that the team which was deployed to Surulere area, spotted a Honda space bus, matching the description of the one used by the robbers and they chased it up to the Eko Bridge where a gun battle ensued, leaving four persons dead while three escaped. One of the suspects identified as Ganiu Mental was arrested with bullet wounds. A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “Mental told us that Godogodo led the operation and that they snatched two Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs, from the Island, where they also killed a policeman. He provided us with the information that led to the arrest of the three other bandits that escaped earlier.” The source added that the police arrested the first suspect, Ahmed Adelawo, who sustained bullet injury on his leg, when they intercepted conversation between him and a native doctor, whom he paid N15,000 to prepare a charm that will prevent the police from arresting him. “We arrested the native doctor and we used him to arrest Adelawo in Ikotun, where he was receiving treatment for his bullet wound. “We then used Adelowo to arrest Leke Ayinde and Abiodun Yinusa,” the source said. Meantime, the arrest of Yinusa didn’t come easy as he fled from Lagos State after the robbery incident. The source said: “He ran to Akwa Ibom State when he learnt that we had arrested Adelawo, but he came back last Wednesday to attend to a case he had in court for stealing. Our operatives got information and stormed the court and arrested him on his way out. The Ajao Estate operation “When the bandits were brought before Godogodo who was arrested penultimate Thursday in Egbeda area of Ibadan, after a massive manhunt by SARS operatives, they explained that they brought in Godogodo to help them dislodge the mobile policemen that were on guard at the warehouse where the robbery took place. Yinusa, who is a resident of Ajao Estate, said: “ I owned the job. I was the one who got Adelawo and others involved. I, Adelawo and Chuks have been operating within Ajao Estate because we are all residents of that area and we are familiar with the terrain. “The warehouse is located at the spot where I usually go to smoke Indian hemp and I know they used to store expensive mobile phones. “I have also assisted them in off loading one of their containers, an opportunity I seized to survey the place. Three months ago, I, Adelawo and Chuks went to rob at the warehouse and we stole phones worth only N200,000. “We couldn’t get into the place where the expensive phones were stored. After that operation, the owner of the warehouse changed the doors, installed security camera and they also brought some armed mobile policemen to guard the place. Godogodo’s involvement “My friend, Adelawo, got broke and he said he wanted us to attack the warehouse again. I told him that it would be difficult because there were policemen on guard, he said he knew people who could repel policemen and get what ever they wanted. “I told him to contact them. One of them was Godogodo. “On the night of that operation, Godogodo came to Ajao Estate in two Range Rover SUVs and he called us to lead them to the place. On arrival, they cut the key to the gate of the warehouse, Godogodo and his friends went into the security house, opened fire on a policeman on guard and collected his rifle, uniform and bullet proof shirt. “Then they smashed the wall to the warehouse with a sledge hammer and gained entrance into the warehouse. After about 30 minutes, they loaded the SUVs with mobile phones and other gadgets. “But on our way out, some policemen who attempted to confront us were repelled by Godogodo’s superior fire power and we escaped. 5 members killed “We drove down to a street in Oshodi where we shared our loot, but on our way to the Island, where we wanted to drop off Ganiu Mental, the policemen accosted us and killed five members of our gang. I managed to escape. I don’t know how Adelawo and Ayinde escaped.” I didn’t know mobile phones were target—Godogodo Reacting to the narrative, Godogodo told Vanguard that he wasn’t aware that their target in that operation was mobile phones warehouse. “I am bigger than mobile phones, I can’t steal such anymore. These boys told me that there was N70 million in that warehouse; that was why I went with them. “If I had known that what we were going to steal were just mobile phones, I wouldn’t have followed them. Yes, they told me that policemen were there so I was prepared. I carried over 300 rounds of live ammunition, so I could stand any attack. I don’t know these boys even if I see them on the road.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/how-godogodo-led-ajao-estate-robbery/

BY EVELYN USMAN LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman who allegedly defiled a two-and-a half-year-old girl in Ilupeju area of Lagos. The suspect, identified as Funmi, is a teacher in an undisclosed nursery and primary school around Ilupeju. Sources revealed that Funmi allegedly inserted a fork into the little girl’s private part. It was gathered that the bubble burst after the toddler arrived home crying. In an attempt to pacify her, her mother reportedly took her to the bathroom for a shower. But immediately she reached out to wash the baby’s private part, the kindergarten baby reportedly wailed. The curious mother was said to have taken a closer look at her child but could not conclude what the problem was, until the child revealed the alleged deed by her teacher in school. The mother was said to have reported the case to the police, and the school’s management was informed. But all the teachers reportedly denied, saying the child might not know what she was talking about. To ascertain the toddler’s claim, all the teachers in the school were said to have been paraded before the child to identify the culprit, in the process of which she pointed at Funmi, following which she was arrested. Police sources hinted that the case was, Wednesday, charged to a special court after the medical test conducted on the child showed that her hymen had been broken. However, Funmi denied the allegation. In her statement to the Police, she claimed to be oblivious of the allegation. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/female-teacher-defiles-two-and-half-year-old-girl/ |

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today arrested a 46-year-old bricklayer from Anambra, who attempted to smuggle 2.07kg of cocaine into the country. A statement by the Spokesman of the NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the suspect was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, with 83 wraps of substance that had tested positive to cocaine. "He was detected with the help of scanning machines during the screening of passengers on an Asky Airline flight from Brazil.'' Ofoyeju said the suspect was recruited by a drug cartel in Brazil and when arrested excreted one of the highest quantity of cocaine ingested at a time so far this year. “Preliminary investigations revealed that drug barons now have agents who move from village to village in search of drug mules. “They have several antics, which include promise of better job opportunities abroad. The case is under investigation." Ofoyeju quoted the suspect, a bricklayer at Alor Village in Anambra, as saying he was lured to sell family land in order to travel abroad in search of job opportunities. “I got to Brazil on July 10 and all attempts to get a job was unsuccessful. That was when they sold the idea of drug trafficking to me. “Initially I objected but when there was no other option, I succumbed. They made me to swallow 83 wraps of cocaine which was detected by NDLEA officers," he said. http://.mobi/output.php?id=11001 |

frankobaba: If there's anything i do love and respect in Prophet-TBJ is his Total humility and Love for all tribe, culture and religion. This guy is a dangerous giver to real people who are in need...imagine sending Trailer loads of rice to the Home for the Blind & Disabled in the north (shocking enough, they were all Muslims..and they prayed to Allah to bless Him with tears in their eyes). Never have i heard him clamouring for "You must sow a seed....You must sow a seed"..Noo he doesn't. Rather he sows in the lives of people. I was humbled by what i saw on TV 2day when a guy who rose from N8,000 salary to a N14,000,000 salary job was told to use his 1st salary and impact heavily in the lives of those desperatly in need (motherless, handicaps, less privelliged, etc) and keep little for himself that wld sustain him for that 1st month only then plan the rest months... Unlike some churches that would coerce him to sow blue seed, green seed, brown seed, pink seed, purple seed, etc...then gather all the 'sown seeds' to build Universities where not even average member of their church can afford to send their kids to. Some fly private Jets and their members have never been to the airport in their lives nor have Bicycles.Very well said! |
HAH: who are u fooling, this guy is just making a u-turn after his media stunt back fired. You'e being judgemental here, and you're too quick in doing so. The report above, if you read it, affirmed Oboabona and his manager's denials. Do you have any proof that what the duo have said is not correct? As long as a refuttal has been offered, why not give Oboabona benefit of the doubt? The issue of Oboabona having an ego that needs to be tamed, to me, is completely off track! |
I pray the police match their words with action and rescue the victims soon. They're always "on top" of every situation you know! What bothers me is how we will continue to live with the near-daily occurrence of kidnapping in Edo State. I hope these hapless teachers will be able to pay the ransome for their release. |
Former president Nelson Mandela remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital, President Jacob Zuma said on Wednesday evening. "The former president of the ANC and founding president of a free and democratic South Africa is sadly still in hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition," Zuma said at a business meeting in Midrand. "The doctors are doing everything they can to ensure an improvement in his health." Zuma urged South Africans to continue keeping the elder statesman in their thoughts and prayers. The ailing anti-apartheid icon spends his 56th day Thursday in the Pretoria Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital, where he was admitted on June 8 with a recurring lung infection. On Wednesday, police were still stationed at both entrances to the hospital and they searched each car before it could enter. http://.mobi/output.php?id=10839 |
JETHRO IBILEKE/Benin Authorities of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have apologized to the Edo State Government and air travellers over the incident which led to the closure of the Benin Airport on Tuesday. Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. George Uriesi led other management staff to governor Adams Oshiomohole in his office in Benin City to tender the apology. “We deeply regret the events of yesterday and we will like to find out how we can avoid a situation like this arising in the future, because it is neither in the interest of FAAN nor in the interest of Edo State Government for the Airport to be closed down, because there was a lot of hardship and serious economic consequences as a result of the shutdown and there is need to settle this matter. “I want to assure Your Excellency that FAAN is a good corporate citizen. I am convinced that there was a misunderstanding and I want to get to the bottom of this misunderstanding so that it does not happen again. “If we have any obligations, we will meet them, and I hope that in the future if there are issues of misunderstanding, we will be able to talk about them quickly without them leading to delays and inconveniences to the public. So, sir we are here to reassure you of our respects and desire to be good corporate citizens and partner with the State Government to deliver services to the people of Edo State,” Uriesi said. In his response, Governor Oshiomhole noted that tax law was a federal law which the state government was only trying to implement. He noted that the tax which FAAN defaulted on was the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) which even the President and Governors pay. Oshiomhole said the State Board of Internal Revenue got a proper Court Order to seal the FAAN Manager's Office, noting that the FAAN Manager on his own decided to seal up the Airport to gain public sympathy. The Governor said the problem with Nigeria is not immunity, but impunity as people often violate the law and get away with it. He insisted that anybody who works and lives in Edo State must pay tax as a contribution to the development of the State, adding that to avoid a re-occurrence of the ugly incident, FAAN must comply with the law. He however, expressed his displeasure with the FAAN Manager, Benin Airport, Mr. Ayodele Sunday for dramatizing the issue, saying “I hope in future, this sort of thing does not happen.” Others in the entourage included Mr. Yakubu Dati, General Manager, Mr. Kolawole Adefomiwa, Deputy General Manager, Mr. Adeboye Festus, the Chief Security Officer and Mr. Ayodele Sunday, Airport Manager. http://.mobi/output.php?id=10819 |

chukxie: What's this dude saying? Agreed It's good what Tecno is doing in Nigeria--marketing cheap and somewhat quality smart phones. But that's as far as it goes! For now there shouldn't be any comparison between Tecno products and Samsung's in terms of quality. It's like pitching peaches against apples! Samsung rules! Do you know only an insignificant number of people use Tecno phones in China as opposed to millions who use Samsung phones? The dude is making sense, man. Samsung is where it is because it has made a name; Tecno is a relatively new brand. But tell you what? Samsung is over-hyped! I have used Samsung phones a good deal. Tecno will compete with it any time any day! The Phantom N7 is brilliantly crafted and is enough to attract adulation from even the most critical minds!
