Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan who gave remarks during the consultative visit to the party by one of the party's gubernatorial hopeful, Obong Akan Udofia, stated that the essence of politics is to drive development, pointing that Akwa Ibom State is developing because of the people-centric administrations led by PDP produced governors since 1999.

Politics / 2023: South-south Pdp Govs, Stakeholders Intensify Call For Power Shift To South by Browndiary(m): 10:03pm On Mar 21, 2022
...Decry hardship visited on Nigerians by APC government.

Governors from the South-South region of Nigeria elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party alongside renowned elders and stakeholders of the party rose from the Zonal summit of the party on Monday March 21, 2022, with an amplified call for the emergence of a Nigerian President from the Southern part of the nation in 2023.

This, the Governors and Stakeholders say in addition to an upward review in figure of allocation of resources especially to the South-South Zone, will make for equity and fairness, since the region has be the fulcrum for the economic sustenance of Nigeria.

Leading the call, Akwa Ibom State Governor and leader of the PDP in the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel while welcoming delegates said the poor and unremarkable handling of the nation's economy by the APC has become a powerful verdict against the APC's return to power in 2023.

In Governor Emmanuel's words "Nigerians have seen the difference between when PDP held the reins of power at the center and now that the APC is holding the reins. Our Party in 2015 had bequeathed a healthier economy to Nigerians but it is sad that today, the APC-led Federal Government has plunged our country into an abyss of economic hardship. At this defining moment of our history, Nigerians are hoping on the PDP to come back to power and rebuild this nation from the near ruins that the APC has turned it to"

The Akwa Ibom State Governor said "Go around this country, it is only Governors elected on the platform of the PDP who are commissioning projects and fulfilling the terms of the social contract they have with the people"

In his remarks, Chairman of the South-South Governors' Forum and Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa lauded the structure of the PDP in South-South zone for the efforts in deepening the gains of the Party in the region stressing that with a robust synergy, the PDP's march towards rescuing Nigeria will become a reality.

In their separate messages at the Summit, Governor Nyesome Wike, Governor Douye Diri, Former Governor Liyel Imoke while decrying the spate of hardship visited on Nigerians as a result of the ineptitude of the APC in leadership, said hope was in sight as the PDP is marching towards rescuing Nigeria from the strangulating grip of the APC.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South-South Zone Chief Dan Obih lauded the delegates the summit for responding to the party's invitation, maintaining that the resolutions which will be birthed at the Summit will renew the hope of indigenes of the South-South region and Nigerians at large.

Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the PDP who spoke at the event on behalf of the State Chairmen of PDP from the South-South lauded the Governors, Elders and Stakeholders of the party from the region for agreeing to come together to meet minds on the way forward for the region and Nigeria, expressing the hope that the Zone and the country will benefit significantly from the outcome of the summit.

The event brought together Serving and former Governors as well as their Deputies from the region, Members of the National Assembly, Members of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, members of the National Executive Committee of the PDP, Members of the State Houses of Assembly from the Zone, SSGs, Commissioners, amongst other renowned stakeholders and elders.

Politics / Ephraim Inyang: A Man That Has Been Decorated In The Hall Of Fame For Liars by Browndiary(m): 12:14pm On Mar 21, 2022
Richard Peters

Who is a deceiver? This is a question that only your conscience can answer. It is a question that Akwa Ibom people should judge and provide sincere answer to. The devil did not start today to accuse the righteous as the Bible clearly identified him as the accuser of the brethren. In our time, one of his sons who is faithfully doing the bidding of his father the devil, is doing what he knows best how to do: Betraying his master and deceiving his kinsmen.

There is a story credited to the former Commissioner for Works Ephraim Inyangeyen at Ikot Ekpene over the weekend where he said Ikot Ekpene people should refuse to be deceived again. As funny as that sound, it questions the moral standing of Ephraim Inyangeyen to give such a piece of advice.

Although he did not mention who he was referring to as deceivers, the people should know that Inyangeyen's movement, smile, body language, character and disposition are symbolism of deceit.

This is someone that has won many accolades for lying, a man that has been decorated in the Hall of Fame for liars.

How can you describe a man who would value your house, demolish same and gives you peanut as compensation while pocketing a greater percentage of the money for your property? Maybe there is something worse than a deceiver or traitor.

To start with, who was Ephraim Inyangeyen before 2015? We were told he was sacked from the Nigerian Custom Service. Despite that, his kind-hearted brother, the governor, picked him, brushed him up and offered him a juicy appointment as Works Commissioner, with the belief that he would deliver on his assignments. But what did Ephraim do? As someone who has been feasting on people's sweat and efforts without thinking of the suffering they would go through alongside their families, he started surcharging the people.

Ephraim Inyangeyen in his days as Commissioner made many Akwa Ibom people to cry, lament and wail helplessly. Some even developed cases of hypertension/high blood pressure. He was directly involved in compensating owners of buildings before demolishing buildings that needed to be removed before construction work commenced on some roads. He usurped the people's money. He would bring estate valuers that would dance to his tune, value the building and pay only a minute percentage to the owners of the buildings, and pocketed the rest.

People whose buildings were demolished could only afford to acquire land, but no money to build again. What a display of heartlessness? There was tears in the land. People were rendered homeless and families separated because of Ephraim Inyangeyen's selfishness.

But no one knew he was actually playing a script for today, so that he would have what to lay hands on and discredit the person who made him who he is today.

When Ephraim was the Commissioner for Works, citizens dragged the government to court and injunctions were placed for the government to discontinue construction work on several roads. A case in point is the family of Etukudo in Eket LGA where the learned members of the family filed cases against the Government because of Inyangeyen's trick and deceitfulness. He couldn't play on the intelligence of lawyers in that family and that thwarted the Eket remodeling project for over four years. He was busy abusing Etukudo's family on the media and told Eket People to hold the Etukudos responsible for the delay in the project, when he was actually the culprit.

He did similar thing to contractors. Contractors that would never succumb to his antics of negotiating his share, which in most cases were bigger than what was required to finish the job, would be pushed aside, while those that would dance to his tune were given contracts. He would bid with the these contractors and make lame offers that would put them at a crossroad where they could not deliver standard work at the end. Cases abound where road projects supervised by Inyangeyen collapsed less than 3 months after commissioning. The people blamed the governor for littering the state with substandard roads. The governor took the blows as a leader, when Inyangeyen was actually acting a script that he would use today against the governor. He is now the one castigating the governor for building substandard roads when he was directly handling the said construction work. What a world?

It breaks my heart that a man whom the governor so trusted with such sensitive position could betray the governor, his kinsmen and Akwa Ibom people. Today, he is preaching to people not to be allowed to be deceived again. Who is the deceiver here?

The present Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga is doing the same job Ephraim was asked to do, and nobody is complaining. There is no single court case. Buildings are demolished and compensations paid in tandem with current prices of building materials. If Ephraim wasn't removed, he would have built another edifice in choice location with the proceeds from sharp practices, especially in underpayment of building owners, to enrich himself.

Ephraim Inyangeyen should not talk about deceit where sane people are. Akwa Ibom people know him and his deeds are before all of us. The people suffered, cried and lamented during his reign of terror as works commissioner. Their tears will still hunt Inyangeyen.

When a crowned deceiver is the one campaigning for OBA, what do you expect in the end? All the people in their Campaign train are people who have benefitted so much from Udom's administration, and because they were not allowed to continue to embezzle funds meant for projects, they became aggrieved and decided to work against the Government that made them. The people should refuse to be deceived by these individuals.

Inyangeyen is known for promising and failing. He has promised to build houses to people but never did. He promised to give jobs to people but never did. He promised many cars, but never gave them. He promised many school fees, but never paid for them. He failed not because he didn't have the money, but because he is a selfish man.

In saner climes, people like him should not even talk in public again. He should be indoor because he has betrayed his brother, kinsmen and Akwa Ibom people. He deceived the people he demolished their buildings, and pocketed a greater percentage of the compensations meant for the owners of property. Who is now the real deceiver? Be the judge.

Politics / 2023 Elections: The PDP, Outgoing Governors And Politics Of Succession by Browndiary(m): 2:45pm On Mar 19, 2022
The 2023 General Elections is almost upon us. The more interesting times seem will come from the party primaries and not really the general election proper. At the heart of party internal crisis is usually the manner its primaries are conducted. Once fairness and internal democracy is not upheld, the parties or individuals who may have been unfairly treated seek redress either in court or sought succour in defection. This core party men most time become the Achilles heel of the party in the main election.

The People's Democratic Party gained power at the centre since the return to democratic rule in 1999. For 16years it held sway until a major internal party crisis in 2014 led to it loss of power at the centre in the 2015 general elections.

What began as a minor tussle in the Governors Forum election over the emergence of the then Rivers State Governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi where some push for an agenda of 16 is greater than 19, snowballed into a major crisis for the PDP. The then Governor of Plateau State Jonah David Jang who scored 16 votes was said to be the winner over Rotimi Amaechi who scored 19 votes. Both Governors were of the PDP and the President also of the PDP. The PDP instead of settling the crisis formed its own PDP Governors Forum to weaken the Governors Forum that had become a very power tool to check the President. The then Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio emerged the Chairman of that splinter group, the PDP Governors Forum.

This will later become the bane of the PDP. With the formation of another group of PDP governors called the newPDP the likes of Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Mohammed Danjuma Goje of Gombe and many others formed a coalition that will later hand the PDP defeat in the Presidential election in 2015.

Political heavy weights like Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki and others collapsed the newPDP into the amalgamated All Progressives Congress (APC) that later had President Mohammadu Buhari as its Presidential Candidate. These men campaigned for the APC across the 36 states of the Federation. What had never happened since President Buhari started seeking to be President of Nigeria. Rotimi Amaechi a PDP governor that had defected to the APC was appointed the Director General of the Campaign.

With all these, the PDP did not see any reason to address it internal crisis squarely because there were elements within the party who constantly told President Goodluck Jonathan that all was well and he would win his election.

2023 poses another challenge for the PDP. Whether it will bounce back and assume leadership at the centre will be determined by the manner its primaries at all levels will be conducted.

The power of the incumbent seeking reelection is key for any political party. Infact any party with sitting governor can easily win reelection. It is the reason parties present them as sole candidates. A good example is how the PDP quickly embraced an APC rejected Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State. The PDP handed its party ticket and structure to Obaseki and went all out to campaign till victory was achieved.

This same treatment cannot and should not be accorded to any outgoing governor of the PDP who have nothing lose if the greed of producing successors wreck the party's unity. The PDP has done these governors enough good and favour. It allowed them carry its ticket for two uninterrupted terms. It will only be proper for these governors to think more of the health of the party and not their personal ambition to produce a successor who most times are very unpopular and generally not accepted by many within the party without coercion.

The truth must be told that the PDP will gain more from a free, fair and credible primaries. Ranks will be closed and members will most likely accept such outcome and party will go into the general election on a strong footing.

Make no mistake any Governorship Candidate that emerges through a fair or unfair process will still pay allegiance to the PDP. It is this reason in mind that should guide the PDP against allowing a domineering outgoing governor to rock the boat of the party in the name of a preferred successor.

If the PDP must sacrifice its ticket, it should be for a sitting governor seeking a second term and not an outgoing governor who is seeking the ticket for another. The health of the party should be paramount to all who genuinely care about the success of the party in the coming 2023 general election.

It is also worrisome that most of the outgoing governors are more concerned about producing their successors rather than thinking of how the PDP can win power at the centre. Unfortunately because politics is local, the national depends on the local structures to win the Presidential election. It is for this reason that the PDP must ensure that people at the local level decide who becomes their candidates at the different offices and not one single man in the name of a being the governor of the state coercing all to support his choice of aspirants.

It is note worthy that majority of the aspirants who are seeking the party ticket are only demanding for a level playing field and nothing else. A demand that will cost the PDP nothing, rather strengthen the party.

The burden rest on shoulders of the National Working Committee of the PDP led by its National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu to save the party from the looming crisis that may arise from overbearing outgoing governors seeking to produce their successors at all cost even at the detriment of the unity of the party.

It is a critical time in the life of the party and the PDP must rise to this challenge and ensure internal democracy. The soul of the party must be preserved and the people hold the ace to this when power is derived from them not a single man.

The aspirant made the pledge during his consultation visit to Senator Aloysius Etok at his country home in Ediene, Ikono LGA.

Speaking during the visit, he thanked Senator Aloysius Etok for believing in his aspiration, hence his being accorded his due respect as a Senator.

Pastor Eno said he was in Ikono to pay homage to the elder statesman and to seek for his blessing and support for his aspiration to serve the State as Governor in 2023.

He maintained that Governor Udom Emmanuel has put in so much in the development of Akwa Ibom State which according to him must be sustained for the overall good of the citizens.

The revered Ikono/Ini Development Hall of Famer described the aspirant as a man with passion and capacity to build on the legacies of Governor Udom Emmanuel, especially in the area of peace, prosperity and security.

In his words, "if you don't know the value of peace and security, ask me. I have no history of high blood pressure, but I developed HBP when my wife was kidnapped and stayed in the kidnapper's den for 12 days.

So Pastor Umo be rest assured, Ikono is with you. We will deliver you and shock the State at the number of votes that will be cast" he said.

Furthermore other stakeholders in the area including; the Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Umoh, State House Member, Hon. Asukwo Nanna, the Council Chairman, Nyakno Uwemedimo, and SSA to the Governor on Petroleum Monitoring, Sir Victor Etefia said Ikono was the first to back Pastor Eno's aspiration after his unveiling by Akwa Ibom stakeholders, and assured the consultation team of their support and massive mobilization to ensure all round success of the project.

Politics / 2023: Groups Condemn Attack On Akwa Ibom Speaker During Consultations by Browndiary(m): 8:46am On Mar 14, 2022
By Lovina Anthony

Two groups, The Mandate Eye and the Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance, have condemned the attack on Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly at Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

Bassey and Godwin Ekpo, the member representing Ibiono Ibom in the Assembly, had gone to consult stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his senatorial ambition before the speaker was attacked by youths.

It was gathered that loyalists of a top governorship aspirant in the area insisted that before the speaker addressed them, he must remove his face cap which had the insignia of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s preferred successor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Bassey refused to take the cap off, insisting he was not there to campaign for Eno but to consult on his ambition to run for senate in 2023. He was forced to leave after the youths insisted he could not address them with the cap on.

Responding to the ugly incident, the groups in a joint press conference at the weekend by the leaders, Uwemedimo Umana, Stephen Abia and Faith Mbowo, described the incident as sacrilegious on the office of the Speaker who is the number three citizen in the state.

Barrister Abia, who is the chairman of the Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance, expressed disappointment that some people could constitute a nuisance and go about harassing politicians who do not align with their views in the 21st century.

“We are indeed saddened that in the 21st century, a bunch of sane beings could constitute themselves into a nuisance and go around harassing and assaulting innocent persons who do not align with their political views.

“It is worse that they could go as far as demanding that Hon. Aniekan Bassey the State’s number three citizen should take off his cap because it carried the imprimatur of his preferred Governorship aspirant, Pastor Umo Eno, not that of their alleged principal, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.

“Are these agitators telling us that if Aniekan Bassey had put on a pair of trousers or shirt with the inscription of Umo Eno, they would have stripped him naked before allowing him to consult Ibiono Ibom delegates?” he asked.

While commending the speaker for his peaceful disposition by leaving the scene immediately, Abia called on security agencies in the state to take further steps by ensuring that all those fingered in the act are brought to book immediately.

Also reacting, the Director of Communications, The Mandate Eye, Dr Uwemedimoh Umanah said the action of the youths was the height of disrespect to the office of the speaker and an infringement on his human rights.

According to him, “This represented a sacrilege and the height of disrespect to the office of the No 3 Citizen of the state. Let us at this critical juncture salute Mr Speaker for displaying such unparalleled leadership and statesmanship through actions that circumvented violence and hostilities in the state. That Mr Speaker did not allow the appurtenances and weight of his office to influence him typifies altruistic leadership.

“That dastardly act infringed on the fundamental right of association and speech of the Speaker, as enshrined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, inter alia: ‘Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests.’

“Therefore undermining Mr Aniekan Bassey’s fundamental rights is antithetical to democratic culture and the process of democratic consolidation in the state.”

Speaking on the agitation for micro-zoning the governorship to Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency, the groups stressed that it was not the sole preserve of Ibiono Ibom, since there has never been micro- zoning for the governorship position in the state saying, “the Governorship position is therefore open to everyone in all the Local Government Areas in Uyo Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.”

“Suffice it to say that, if the zoning of the governorship were done on the basis of Local Government Areas or micro- zoning, it would take about 36 years within Uyo alone, before it gets to the next Senatorial District. It is therefore morally reprehensible, unthoughtful, illogical and insensitive for any person or group to feel entitled to the seat of Governor and subject it to personal considerations- against the interest of the whole state,” they said.

Politics / What Makes Umo Eno's Aspiration And Campaign Different From Others by Browndiary(m): 4:28pm On Mar 12, 2022
Granted, but not conceding in totality that everyone is qualified for the gubernatorial race, this is true by right of citizenship, but there should be a shift from the normal in each aspirant's team for the campaign processes, there should be something unique and distinct in each teams.

That shift should occur in the area of campaigning of ideals and vision for the State, quality leadership in-view to be provided and development blueprint for the State, not just the normative campaign with handouts, financial inducement and fighting for personal interest without any conviction

There should be conviction that drives our support; supporting a person who can lead the State ideally. There should be a campaign of ideals from each teams, the spread of knowledge and splendour of visions and not the reverse of ignoring a peaceful processes, showing desperation to grab power by all means as a right.

Everybody is fighting for interest and pitching their tent where their interest is protected. Some give support because of the existing relationship they have with aspirant or they do their bosses' bid. Everyone fights for interest.

Very few care about the collective interest and common good of Akwa Ibom State and the leadership needed to drive the common good.

Thinking straight and properly, Pst. Umo Eno if given the opportunity to be the standard flag bearer of our party, will forge and fulfill the ideals of our party PDP and the pursuit of progress, growth and development of our State as enshrined in the constitution of the party.

Besides, Umo Eno is qualified because, he represents prosperity and success. He represents investment and businesses; he has antecedents of these and other aspirants should market their antecedents in business and investment areas. This is what campaign should be, not reviling, casting slurs and uncouth statements that threatens our public confidence. This is why Umo Eno's campaign is distinct.

An investor thinks about protecting his businesses, goods and services. He gives much care on security. But one who has no investment loses no sleep over anything because he has no care.

With Umo Eno in leadership our public confidence is cinch and a thriving society in economy and social welfare is guaranteed.

Politics / PDP Dashes Ephraim Inyang's Senate Ambition by Browndiary(m): 7:49am On Mar 11, 2022
...State Chairman says Party bound by Senate zoning to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency

By Uwem Eteteh

The alleged senate ambition of the immediate sacked Chief of Staff to Governor Udom Emmanuel has been thrown out of the window as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State has insisted that the party will stand with the decision of Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum who have zoned the Senate seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency.

The State Chairman, Rt Hon.(Elder) Aniekan Akpan clearly gave the position of the party yesterday in Ikot Abasi during the PDP Federal Constituency Tour held at the Council Headquarters.

Rt Hon. Akpan said as a well organized party, the party recognizes the smoothly run zonal rotation in Eket Senatorial District and they are bound by it for peace and justice.

It would be recalled that with all the Federal Constituencies in Eket Senatorial District having completed their terms, the elders and stakeholders of the district had unanimously agreed that the Senate seat rotates back to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency in 2023:

'The party will stand with Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency for Senate 2023', Rt Hon. Aniekan Akpan said pointedly at the tour.

Speaking also during the tour, leaders and chieftains of the party in the area including Elder Obot Etukafia, Sir Adasi Ubulom, Hon. Udo Sam Umoatan, Engr. Uwem Stephen Okoko among others all reiterated the stance of the Federal Constituency concerning Senate 2023 and warned that anybody attempting to come out for Senate from another Federal Constituency outside was doing so at his or her risk.

The State Chairman of the PDP Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan also used the event to formally receive decampees from the APC into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Federal Constituency.

Earlier in the day, the party delegation had made a brief stopover at Ibom Power Company in Ikot Abasi, where the PDP State Chairman said the Ibom Power Company investment as well as similar investments by the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration in Power speaks of the visionary drive of the PDP administration, restating the commitment of the PDP to always produce leaders who take the state several notches higher in service to the people.

The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company, Engr. Meyen Etukudo, who welcomed the Party delegation said the Ibom Power was one of the strategic investments of the PDP administration in the state, noting that the Power Company has continued to generate power to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for onward distribution by Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and other distribution companies.

Politics / Zoning Has Ensured Peace And Stability In Akwa Ibom State - Udom's Media Aide by Browndiary(m): 10:44pm On Mar 08, 2022
Zoning of Governorship position in Akwa Ibom State does not give birth to mediocrity, rather it has brought about peace and stability in the state.

Micro-zoning has never been applicable in the Governorship position in Akwa Ibom State, rather the governorship seat always rotate around the three senatorial districts – Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket.

The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso on a ABN Television current affairs programme, 'The Middle Page' programme yesterday stated these while giving perspectives on the issue of zoning in a democratic society like Nigeria.

Mr Ndueso maintained that contrary to arguments that micro zoning should be used to decide the forthcoming Governorship elections, micro-zoning only comes into play in positions like the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly contests.

He said it is only a Senatorial aspirant who should be relying on Micro zoning arrangements among the federal constituencies of the senatorial District.

"A person seeking for a senate ticket can discourse rotation of power among the federal constituencies, while a person seeking position in the House of Representatives is expected to rely on the zoning arrangement among the local government areas of the federal constituency, and a House of Assembly aspirant, keys into the zoning formular between zones in the local area."

He also stated that the agitations that the governorship seat should be given to Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency rather than Etinan on the basis that a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Akpan Isemin hails from Etinan, should be disregarded as that tenure was cut short prematurely by General Sani Abacha's coup of 1993.

Responding to the host, Amazing Ekedebe's question on whether zoning does not negate performance, Mr Essien described zoning as an arrangement in which “every unit that makes up a society is afforded equal opportunity of aspiring to occupy positions of leadership”.

In his opinion, the units in the society are not equal and as such, a gentleman arrangement where different units are allotted preferences to political powers. With this arrangement, people from minority groups can aspire and emerge in leadership positions in the country.

Ndueso went on to explain that the concept of zoning works in a country like Nigeria where some ethnic groups have a larger population than others.

Those in the majority ethnic groups would have always won the elections, marginalising contenders from smaller ethnic groups or geographical zone.

In disputing the claim that zoning promotes mediocrity, Ndueso recalled the popular belief during the 2015 elections that there was no capable hand in Eket Senatorial District which the zoning favoured at the time, but Governor Emmanuel emerged and showed that he had the potentials and capabilities of governing and developing Akwa Ibom State.

The Governor's aide also stated that zoning is only applicable to political parties and that these parties have to present their best candidates for the elections, otherwise the opposition party would win the elections if their candidate is stronger making the process practical and effective.

While speaking on Governor Udom’s preference for a particular candidate out of the other aspirants, he said the governor did not choose a candidate based on popularity or to score cheap points in the polity, and expressed satisfaction that he chose someone competent, experienced and with the capacity to govern the state.

He went on to say that zoning does not disenfranchise the voters because even if a candidate is chosen by a political party, they would have to still carry out consultations, campaigns to sell their ideas and plans to the people, and the elections will still be held for the people to make their choice.

Mr Essien Ndueso ended on the note that zoning has become a tradition among the people Akwa Ibom but urged everyone to view a political position as an opportunity to serve the people rather than a reward to amass personal fortunes.

... Commends Party for Fair Treatment of Aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has reiterated its commitment to uphold the party's democratic ideals by providing a levelled playing ground for all aspirants gunning for the party's ticket in the build up to the 2023 polls.

The State Chairman of PDP, Rt Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, who spoke at the Atan Offot party house, Monday March 7, while welcoming the campaign team of Senator Bassey Albert, reassured the delegation of the party's earlier communicated stance that all aspirants will be treated fairly before and during the nomination, stating that it is the usual practice of PDP to entrench internal democracy.

"I said it before and I stand by that statement that the party is open for all. As we are smiling today, God will give us the grace to smile to the end."

"There will be a levelled playing field and as it is our democratic tradition, every willing aspirant will certainly be given the opportunity to stand nomination and whoever the delegates nominate as standard bearer will be our candidate", the chairman said.

While thanking the gubernatorial hopeful, Sen Albert, for honouring the party through the consultation, the chairman gave him assurances of absolute fairness at the party primaries, pointing that the power to decide the party's standard bearer lies in the delegates and who the delegates nominate shall enjoy total support to victory at the polls.

The chairman further cautioned against disorderliness and intolerant in the cause of pursuing various aspirations.

"I appeal that every aspiration be pursued with utmost decency and peaceful disposition. We must unite so that we can advance our cause and win the general elections at all levels."

On his part, Sen Bassey Albert appreciated the party for the fair treatment given to apirants including himself by opening the doors of the party for aspirants to come in for consultation, while seeking the support of delegates in his governorship bid, adding that he is ready to make the party proud if given the chance.

Also speaking, the Director General of the Sen Bassey Albert Campaign Organisation, Bishop Andrew Uwanta and a stakeholder of the party, Sir Emem Akpabio, thanked the leadership of the party in the state for upholding the tradition of internal democracy and expressed trust that the nomination process will be fair.

Politics / Prof Ibanga: Cleaning The Mess of A Garrulous Predecessor by Browndiary(m): 8:04am On Mar 02, 2022
By Mercy Udoh

The relative calm in the air and much progress recorded in Governor Udom Emmanuel's infrastructural expansion and Completion Agenda shows that the commissioner holding sway in that area is a study in scarlet.

Everyone knows that Governor Emmanuel means well for the state. The blind can see that the governor has a transparent heart to bring developments to this state.

This was the first time a governor is ensuring that infrastructural development comes to all parts of the state simultaneously. That vision is now finding expression through the instrumentality of the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga.

At first, some people thought that adding the title of Fire service to his designation was a mistake, but with the pace of work and progress being recorded, it can be deduced that the governor wanted him to use the fire brigade approach to actualise his vision of total facelift of capital infrastructure in the state.

For over 5 years of his tenure, it was quite clear how , hues, cries, petitions, traditional injunctions, litigations marred the progress and execution of some of the road projects in the state. A case at hand is the Dualised Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road where the governor openly confessed that over 20 court cases by property owners had stalled the progress of work. The work however was accomplished by the State Government and commissioned by the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan last September. Most gigantic road projects are now being completed as well, and noiselessly.

The story of infrastructural development is totally different since the arrival of Prof. Eno Ibanga, a former Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University. It is believed that his appointment came at the right time to clean the mess left behind by his predecessor, Mr Ephraim Inyang.

The mess included by-passing estate valuers in the compensation plan for property owners, poor job quality and slow pace of work. Mr Inyangeyen's unguarded utterances brought more fury into the atmosphere. Blaming youths in Oruk Anam for artificial rains, bringing the government to disrepute by blaming elders of some communities of demanding bribes and speaking from both sides of their mouths etc. It is not surprising that he would later even throw the blame on the Governor to exonerate himself.

Gladly, the mess is being cleaned up gradually, the story is different as work is on going at most abandoned projects sites like at Oruk Anam, the Ikot Okoro- Ikot Ibritam road, the pace of work is encouraging, at Ika - Etim Ekpo. The same can be said of Ukanafun, with communities like Ikot Oku Osung, Afaha Ikot Ebak and others getting new roads. The Etinan-Ndon Eyo road, Eket- Etinan road, are not left out. The road from Uyo to the Akwa Ibom State owned Airport, is being expanded steadily and without any noise. Breaking down all those houses from the heavily built up areas on Uyo to Airport road, without any protest by landlords, attest to Prof Ibanga's recent comment that Government must have a human face.

The Urban renewal project at Eket is no longer attracting concerns on radio stations because compensations are now being paid duly through accredited valuers and work is progressing at jet speed from Atabong to Liverpool Roundabout, Grace Bill Roundabout and the previously contentious Idua Road .

With the turn of things, people now remove their valuables and demolish their properties themselves, having enough time after getting paid for their properties that have infringed on the right of way, an act which shows that they are pleased with the Government of the day and its attitude towards property owners.

It is obvious that those who were having field days filing court papers, were not anti development, as the former Commissioner for Works, Mr Inyangeyen used to allege. Funnily, same man who couldn't carry out his assignments efficiently, wants to contest for the position of senator to represent a zone he disappointed during his tenure as commissioner.

Politics / Pastor Umo Eno will take Obot Akara, Akwa Ibom to enviable Heights by Browndiary(m): 4:15pm On Mar 01, 2022
- ENOIDEM TO EKPENYONG

It was a marriage of the present with the future as the leading aspirant to the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Seat, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, eulogised the incumbent, Senator Chris Ekpenyong describing him as a trail blazer, who has set the pace in politics in the Senatorial District.

Barr Enoidem, whose senatorial ambition has already secured the endorsement of stakeholders in his senatorial district, has assured Ekpenyong, a former deputy Governor of the state, that Pastor Umo Eno has all it takes to create job opportunities and further develop on the numerous achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Obot Akara and the entire state.

At a consultation visit to Senator Ekpenyong by the leading contender for the 2023 Governorship of Akwa Ibom State,Pastor Umo Eno, Barr Enoidem, the national chairman of the Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, said
"Pastor Umo Eno has shown that he has what it takes to create and sustain wealth through his numerous achievements in the private and public sector, and I want to assure you that he will create more opportunities that will enable more of our youths to be taken off the streets," Enoidem added.

He said he has implicit confidence in Senator Ekpenyong as a man who stands by what he says and does not waiver in his convictions.

"If Senator Ekpenyong supports you, he won't relax in his house, he will protect the mandate, all the way to INEC office."

He said further that Pastor Eno was an embodiment of peace and a steward in God's vineyard, and would ensure that the peace and security in the state, is maintained to enable more investors to be attracted to the state.

This position was collaborated by other speakers, including the Director General of Campaigns, Chief Assam Assam SAN, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Monday Ebong Uko and other political chieftains from the area.

Speaking at the forum, Pastor Eno said he was ready to further look into the youths and entrepreneurial development, and promised to build on the foundation laid by Governor Emmanuel.

Pastor Eno who acknowledged God's favour on him, said with the support of the Senator Ekpenyong, his ambition would be successful.

Senator Ekpenyong who was visibly elated at the honour, vowed to mobilize support from his constituent to ensure the success of Pastor Eno's aspiration.

Ekpenyong who highlighted the numerous achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Obot Akara, said he had vowed to support whoever had the blessings of Governor Emmanuel.

"Governor Emmanuel has done well in Obot Akara, but you must assure us that you will further transform Obot Akara, being a border community," he said.

Senator Ekpenyong commended Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, Sir Monday Ebong Uko for being worthy allies in the politics of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, saying they are worthy ambassadors of Annang nation that have made him proud.

Politics / ESD 2023: Unveiling Ekong Sampson (1) by Browndiary(m): 11:21am On Mar 01, 2022
At first, my relationship with Ekong Sampson was a case of a public officer and a critic. In my early days of media practice, I had chosen to restrict my closeness with public/political office holders so I don't have to enjoy favours that would have me mortgaging my conscience when matters involving collective interests arise. Despite this, there are very few ones I found myself comfortable with in close friendship and Barr. Ekong Sampson falls among.

I have never stopped criticising this man till date. Only difference is, I now channel my criticisms to him privately, and so because of his tolerance for them and how much he has allowed himself to welcome my diverse opinions and views to his actions, decisions and beliefs, where it concerns his political and public service career. When I refuse to stand for what he stands for, he respects my opinion and view, and has so far not placed our friendship on such condition. These, aside the intelligence he impressed on me from the very first event of our interaction, are what endeared me to him.

Criticism, whether public or private, is what public officers in this clime glaringly lack tolerance for, especially when there is a clear difference in the age and social status of the critic and public officer. Having tolerated my criticisms all these years, Sampson has shown himself to belong to a different breed and class.

Rather than draw lines of antagonism with his critics and opposers, the Mkpat Enin born lawyer has a way of embracing them, and having them contribute their values towards public service delivery for collective good. This one trait, among a few others, has made him a central rallying point in his homefront– Mkpat Enin, hence, justifying the somewhat funny title he carries as the "political junction" of the area. At first, that was to me one of those political titles given to politicians even when undeserving, until I found out the man has managed to touch a life in virtually every family or kindred in Mkpat Enin. Little wonder his political aspirations have always been greeted with wide acceptance, as he seems to have a ready structure upon which he establishes his political expeditions.

Clearly, one with such level of tolerance possesses one very key quality of the type of leader required in the 21st century democracy where public awareness and political participation are on the increase. By always widening his mind to accommodate dissenting views even to his personal aspirations, man shows clear understanding and respect to the role of the electorates in leadership selection and subjects himself to accountability demands by the electorates in every mandate he is entrusted with.

How he balances his patriotism at all levels— displaying love for his Ikpa Ikono clan without allowing same override the need for a united and progressive Mkpat Enin area, while still displaying equal love and patriotism to Akwa Ibom, remains a stunner, yet a strong force that has comanded a wave of admiration and followership his way, and now one of the strong qualities that place him above co-contenders, as Akwa Ibomites of the southern (Eket) senatorial district extraction are seeing him as one with the ability to manage and equitably balance the interests of the different ethnicities within the senatorial district.

Confessions from employees in his chains of businesses are also pointer to the fact that Sampson promotes an ideology of cohabitation. His criteria for hiring running hands for his investments have been strictly on excellence and capacity, above favouritism on ethnic or other clumsy basis that commonly promote segregation. Having often expressed, at formal and informal settings, his uncompromising stance for excellence, his focus has insistently been on value, as much as it can contribute towards progressing the course in hand.

Any wonder how he stands out among the crowd in every area of responsibility he mans? Reason is simply because where people see rock as a hard stone, same is to him a raw material that can be melted and used for very productive purposes. One with such quality can turn a bleak situation into fortunes. So to my fellow electorates in Eket senatorial district, as you think of representation come 2023, here is just introducing to you, Ekong Sampson.

Ubong Sampson (08021419939) writes from Ata Idung Minya, Mkpat Enin LGA.

Momentum of the forthcoming 2023 elections has eventually swing the pendulum of leadership for Mkpat Enin State Constituency to Ukpum Minya Clan. Intentions by bonafide sons and daughters of Ukpum Minya Clan have been thrilling.

The latest and of course the best according to pundits, is that of Engr Nsikan Pius Etukapan Nkamado, a native of Ikot Udo Village in Ukpum Minya ward 1, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

A graduate of Electrical Engineering, from Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos; a Project Manager; holder of other certifications in telecom industry.

Engr Nsikan Nkamado is a one time Alumni President of Comprehensive Secondary School, Edeobom 1, Nsit Ibom LGA. Whose under his leadership, provided the school with borehole water, books, students seminar on techniques of active learning and other relevant topics.

Outspoken, intelligent with uncommon leadership antecedents devoid of craftiness and deceits, Engr Nkamado is a seasoned telecom professional. He has worked with major telecom giant Huawei technologies, as a quality assurance managed services to MTN project across the country.

The entire world is going digital and Akwa Ibom State have been left behind due to the inability of the State Assembly to have professionals in relevant areas like telecommunication, hence the emergence of Nsikan Pius Etukapan Nkamado for Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 election.

Mkpat Enin, behold your very pride!!!

In 2004, the traditional institution had conferred on Dr Sampson, then their Council Chairman, with a unique traditional title of 'Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin', because of his good work in the local government area.

Dr Sampson also holds the traditional title of 'Eduek eyen Ukpum Minya',(Sampson's mother hails from Ukpum Minya clan, he from Ikpa Ikono). He is equally the Adaiso Ikpa Ikono.

Barr. Ekong Sampson right from his days as Council Chairman is known to have bought vehicles for traditional rulers in the area, increased their allowances and provided them with water facilities and other support items.

Very significantly Dr Sampson is well known in Mkpat Enin for his bridge building activities by providing projects well spread across all four clans of the local government. He spent all his four years as Chairman living in the local government area, connecting with the royal fathers and other segments of Mkpat Enin over the years.

Dr Sampson's facilitation of employment for many indigenes of Mkpat Enin both in the public and private sectors are equally well documented in the area. These, among others have earned him goodwill which created the buzz when he came to consult the royal fathers on his aspiration.

Addressing the royal fathers, Dr Sampson said he came to respectfully pay homage and inform them of his intention to represent Eket Senatorial District come 2023. He promised:

'By the grace of God, if I am elected into the Red Chamber, I will not change in my love and commitment towards the traditional institution of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. I will do even more.

He thanked the royal fathers profoundly for the love they have extended to him since his days as Council Chairman during which he lived among them in Mkpat Enin. Dr Sampson paid glowing tributes to his maternal uncle, the former Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin, HRM John Ufot Ibanga, Obong D.S. Udoinyang, Elder Joe Udobia, HRM Akpan Akpan Udo, Chief A.A. Inoh, Hon. Basil Essien, Chief Stephen Ikpim and other pathfinders who laboured for the birth and growth of Mkpat Enin.

He said he always draws his inspiration from their patriotic efforts in developing Mkpat Enin. Barr. Sampson said that in the Senate, he will initiate legislations that will give traditional institutions more powers and recognition which will help in the fight against insecurity in the country. He believes that if the traditional institution is given more powers, they can use that and help to strengthen the fabrics of our national unity.

There was intermittent thunderous applause when the moderator of the event, Hon. Nkereuwem James reeled out some of the projects initiated and completed by Barr. Ekong Sampson throughout the four clans and his routine welfare packages for Mkpat Enin people and the PDP.

Dr Sampson also took out time to explain to the royal fathers that Mkpat Enin stands to gain a lot from Pastor Umo Eno as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, with the guber hopeful being a son in law in Mkpat Enin and has good leadership qualities.

Other speakers including a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Etete Peters, who led the delegation, Hon. Aniefiok Brown, former Vice Chairman of Ikot Abasi, Hon. Ufok Frank, former Leader of Council, Ikot Abasi and Joe Akpan, an aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel all lauded Dr Sampson's outstanding qualities and rich legislative experience and prayed the royal fathers to adopt him for the Senate race. Hon.Brown even stated unequivocally:

'We in Ikot Abasi have adopted him as our sole candidate because he has the right credentials to make a mark in the Senate for Eket Senatorial District'.

A prominent youth of the area and Chairman, Mkpat Enin Youth Caucus, Hon. Tony Evans pledged the full support of the youths for Dr Ekong Sampson. Last year, the youth strata of Mkpat Enin, comprising of mainstream youth groups had conferred on Dr Sampson, a lifetime achievement award. A Woman Leader, Eno Usoro said the women of Mkpat Enin are fully backing Barr. Sampson because 'he is one politician who is accessible to all no matter where you come from'.

Speaking also, the Peoples Democratic Party Ward Chair of Chairs in Mkpat Enin, Uwem Usoroh, leading a strong roll call of ward chairmen to the paramount ruler's palace said Ekong Sampson enjoys enormous goodwill among party faithful, assuring of their support.

In his response, the Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin, H.R.M Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene extolled Barr. Sampson for all the great things he has done for the Mkpat Enin royal institution, saying he has 'been a darling of the Mkpat Enin Royal Fathers.

He recalled how Barr. Sampson, then as Council Chairman raised the allowances and welfare packages of royal fathers in the area, provided some of them with vehicles, water facilities and other interventions. He said that Barr. Sampson raised even the allowances of town criers to make their job easier.

He said everybody in Mkpat Enin knows Dr Sampson helps all the clans. He thanked Barr. Sampson for organizing a grand coronation for one of his predecessors, HRM John Ufot Ibanga in 2004, which he said was a mark of respect for the traditional institution.

The Paramount Ruler said that Dr Sampson has the full and sincere blessings and endorsement of the royal fathers for his Senate 2023 ambition:

'You are the very best because you always have the interest of all Mkpat Enin at heart. We will support you and will always pray for you. As you get to the Senate, always remember Mkpat Enin, your home', the Akwa Enin V admonished.

A vote of thanks and special message of endorsement was offered by the Chairman, Conference of Village Heads, His Highness, Eteidung Sylvester Akpan-itiat.

High point of the evening was the offering of royal prayers and blessings, by each of the clan heads on Dr Sampson before a general prayer by the entire traditional institution and anointing of his head with the sacred elephant tusk, 'nnuk enin' by the Paramount Ruler, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene.

Senator Ibok-Essien, a politician, businessman, CEO of Ritman Group and Proprietor of Ritman University, assured Pastor Eno of his readiness to mobilize support within and outside the local government area for his electoral victory.

He advised him not to abandon his supporters and members of his campaign team, when he eventually becomes the Governor.

"I knew Umo far back in 1998 when the then Governorship candidate of our party, Obong Victor Attah penciled down my name as his running mate, and i said I wasn't interested in being the Deputy Governor, and requested instead that Chris Ekpenyong should be made the Deputy Governor, as my interest then was the Senate seat.

"The party Chairman then, Joe Ating came to my house and drove me to Umo Eno's hotel, Royalty Hotel in Eket where the meeting took place. I slept that night in his hotel".

"I want to assure you that you are our next Governor. I've endorsed you as our next Governor. We support you, I support you. From now henceforth I'll join your campaign train, and I'll enlist die hard supporters from here in your campaign team"

"Don't forget those who stood by you, and weathered the storm to ensure you emerge victorious. Don't abandon them. Don't forget any of these people that have accompanied you here.

"I know you will consult Ikot Ekpene as a whole in due time"

The Commissioner listed rural development, seaport development, the Maintenance Repair Overhaul, MRO facility, enterprise development, job creation, human capital investment, among others as key areas that he would focus on.

"I have come to visit my senior brothers in Ikot Ekpene, because when a man is from Ikot Ekpene udo and he has his senior brothers from Ikot-Ekpene, that means he has come to visit his people. That's why I'm here to meet my brothers. We've come today to ask for your blessing".

"Governor Udom Emmanuel is not my Godfather, rather he is my mentor and I'm his mentee. He teaches and encourages you to do your best, that's why I call him my mentor.

"He has established small, medium entrepreneurs and we want to build on that. The gap between the poor and rich is very wide, I have come to bridge the gap''.

"We will focus on Rural development
So that the generality of Akwa Ibom youths, men and women would have what to do. I know how to build from bottom up, I've done that before as a businessman".

"It is not a man who brings money and throw up here that loves you, it is a man who teaches you how to create wealth. A man who gives you job.

"I started small, today i can tell you clearly that God has been faithful".

"The Ikot Ekpene people are good traders. We are close to Aba. By the grace of God when I'm Governor we will make Ikot Ekpene a business hub. I came to tell you there is a guaranteed future for our youths".

Politics / Udom's Support for Umo Eno, Not A Mark Of Dictatorship - Ex Minister by Browndiary(m): 10:36pm On Feb 15, 2022
- ADVISES AGAINST MEDIA ATTACKS, INSULTS ON THE GOVERNOR

by Mfonobong Ukpong

A former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, says 'the ongoing vilification'' of Governor Udom Emmanuel by aggrieved aspirants was unwarranted, despite the Governor's open support to his Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno for the 2023 Governorship position in the State.

He says Governor Emmanuel has the inalienable right to make a choice as an individual and more so, as a sitting Governor of the state.

In a press briefing held, Tuesday at his Shelter Afrique residence in Uyo, Chief Essien who is also the Political leader of Eket Senatorial district, and a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, observed with dismay how the media has been awash with commentaries, insults and 'all sorts of propaganda' from those not favoured by the Governor's position.

Chief Essien maintained that the Governor's choice before the primary election is not the final position in the election, saying all other aspirants and their supporters still have an option of either accepting the Governor's choice or continue to press their luck to be chosen at the next level.

He reminded those aspiring to succeed the Governor to rather go ahead with their consultation and gear up for the Primaries and subsequent election coming ahead, as the PDP would definitely conduct primaries to select a flagbearer for the party, to be followed by a general election to be conducted by INEC, adding that the Governor's decision does not make him a dictator.

"It is unimaginable that a sitting Governor would not be interested in who succeeds him in office.

"His choice at this level does not represent the ''anointing" “imposition” or “insult” to Akwa Ibom State people where there will be Primaries and subsequent election.

"It does not make also make the Governor a “dictator” with other unprintable names”.

"As an active participant in politics since 1979 and an avid student of electioneering processes, I have not seen an election where individuals do not have preferences for aspirants.

"It is the conglomeration of these preferences of individuals that result in the production of a candidate at the primary election of the parties. The candidates of the parties then vie at a general election to produce one person to occupy the office".

Politics / The Umo Eno Many People Don't Know by Browndiary(m): 1:05pm On Feb 11, 2022
"Ignorance is an enemy, even to its owner. Knowledge is a friend, even to its hater." Sri Chinmoy.

The wise king Solomon said there is an error under the sun, and there is also a shameful error in our generation that is gradually becoming a norm. The error of giving an opinion ignorantly and with a sense of pride.

Some who don't believe in the gospel of Umo Eno think he is inexperienced, not qualified and not prepared for leadership. But this is very far from reality, an error committed in ignorance.

People who have had the opportunity to sit under Pst Umo Eno can attest to the fact that he is knowledgeable in almost every aspect of life, especially economic development.

A man that can speak wisdom for over two hours without consulting any material is a genius, and this is the Umo Eno people don't know.

His words resonate power, knowledge and intelligence.
If all the aspirants are given the floor to speak for 10 minutes, without boasting, Umo Eno has what it takes to take the day. It is not about oratory, rhetoric or the ethos and logos of speech presentation, but wisdom wrapped in words and conversed with undiluted passion.

The choice of Pst. Umo Eno by the people is not a mistake. He is the best person for the job given his leadership antecedent. He is a fast learner and not a pushover. Don't think he will be a stooge that anyone can push over. He is a thoroughbred leader anointed to take Akwa Ibom state to its destination come 2023.

Politics / Umo Eno 2023: The Prevailing Hand Of Justice And Equity by Browndiary(m): 10:56am On Feb 09, 2022
Justice is a term used for what is right or what should be. It is one of God’s attributes which flows out of His holiness, and one of his cardinal recommendations to his children from biblical days. We all want justice and equity to prevail on our side and so, one can say that Justice is doing the right thing at the right time, while equity is doing to others what you want them to do to you.

When narrowed to Akwa Ibom State, we see that fairness and equity are two elements which are wrongly interpreted in the dispensation of political justice. A lot of persons clamour for fairness and equity but cry foul when they are asked to allow others have a dose of same. They bring up variables such as experience, expertise and what have you; forgetting that God does not choose the qualified – he qualifies the chosen!

In the Bible, when God was looking for a King for the children of Israel in the house of Jesse, He didn't go for the first son or the experienced; rather he went for the last which was David. Perhaps, people questioned God’s choice of David but it could not have changed anything. That symbolic choice was just an illustration to prove that God was searching the heart not the height or physical features. God was looking for a man who would plead the cause of His people; one who would always obey Him and not institutionalize evil practices such as idolatry, cultism etc which was the practice in those days and David fitted in that desire.

In Akwa Ibom State, one who fits the desire of righteousness has been unveiled to the State Chief Executive, and he has preferred and presented this choice to Akwa Ibom people; a man who has not been found wanting in anyway, very humble, committed and has the concern of the people at heart. He is indeed a man who will obey God and sustain the peace and development we are currently enjoying.

He is Pastor Umo Eno.
