Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has clarified that the State’s Executive Order on masquerades is not a blanket ban but a restriction aimed at keeping them off the streets and highways for public safety.

Speaking at the funeral of the late Mrs. Rose Linus Okon at the State Cenotaph, Uyo, the Governor explained that traditionalists are free to practise their faith and display masquerades within village squares or other designated community spaces.

“I have not banned masquerades in the State. I only banned their activities on the streets where they have become a threat to citizens,” he said. “They are free to carry on their Ekpo religion, but it must not infringe on the movement or safety of others. Anyone who violates this will face the law.”

He emphasized the need to balance freedom of worship with the rights of residents to move freely without intimidation.

Governor Eno also consoled Pastor Joe Linus, first son of the deceased, encouraging the family to find comfort in the devoted life their mother lived in service to God and humanity.

Commending Pastor Linus for his humility and long-standing service to the Christian community, the Governor announced his appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters, effective January 2026. He charged him to work with the existing religious advisory team to provide spiritual support for the State through prayer.

The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, members of the State Executive Council, political stakeholders, captains of industry, and other top government officials.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has said the soon to be flagged off Medical City is aimed at advancing healthcare delivery and boosting tourism in the State in line with the ARISE Agenda.

Governor Eno stated this while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents after his inspection of ongoing preliminary works at the State medical city comprising Ibom International Hospital, world-class Diagnostics Centre, pharmaceutical industry, housing estate, and Elderly Home, among others located at Ikot Ada Idem, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The Governor who took a walk around major points in the city, expressed delight at the preliminary works, saying the project will be flagged off in the new year.

"Everything about healthcare will be happening here. We are about to even acquire additional 100 hectares of land for our future plans, like establishment of our pharmaceutical industry, and more," he said.

Speaking further, he said "Everything we are doing now is tourism – whether it is medical, aviation, resort, infrastructure, agriculture, heritage, and the likes. In the next one year, the reality of all of these will be out for everyone to see.

"It is all coming together slowly. It's a vision, it will take a while. And, we are interpreting it all gradually," he assured.

He called on the private sector to partner with the State Government in various areas of the medical investments to establish a world-class medical facility that will stand the test of time for the overall benefit of the people and the State.

"No matter what you do, welfare of the citizenry includes health; and we need to create it. We must have an international diagnostics centre that is accredited internationally to serve our people and others," he said.

The Governor disclosed that the State medical city is intentionally built closer and en route to the Four-point by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene to have a facility that will provide five-star services to the expected medical tourists to the medical city.

He said a separate power grid will be provided to drive the facility, stressing that though it is an ambitious project, it will certainly be accomplished for its world-class services and as a boost to the economy of the state.

On the Governor's entourage were the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson; Commissioner for Information, Hon Aniekan Umanah, Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Mr. Ubong Inyang; Commissioner for Finance /Special Duties, Hon Emem Bob; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John; Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Henry Archibong; the State Surveyor-General, Mrs. Emem Isang; and other Government functionaries.

A new naval base is to be established at the Ibeno axis on Akwa Ibom State.

The development is to boost further safety of maritime infrastructure in the State.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit on Governor Umo Eno, by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, in his office.

Admiral Abbas said he was in the State to pay homage and respect to the Governor before touring the naval units in the State as part of his operational visit to the Eastern Naval Command.

The Chief of the Naval Staff who was only recently appointed by the President, said he is going round to have first hand information on all units in the State, and his visit to the Governor was to also enable him thank the Governor for the support to the Navy since assumption of office.

“Akwa Ibom is critical as most of the critical national assets are in the State.

“We are open to continuous collaborations with the state to protect critical national assets.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility and we we need more support from the State.

“I was briefed of the base being proposed in the State. If we have an LOP, outpost or a base in Ibeno, we will appreciate”, Admiral Abbas said.

Responding, Governor Umo Eno commended the Chief of Naval Staff on his appointment by the President.

He thanked the President for the appointment, noting that it came at a time where there was need to intensify efforts to protect maritime assets across the country.

The Governor said he is ready to issue a certificate of occupancy to ensure the establishment of the base in Ibeno.

He appreciated the supportive role of the Nigerian Navy, and asked for more collaborations.

“One of the major contracts we signed some months ago, was the construction of a passenger ferry by the Nigerian Navy for our Marine Jetty and other facilities in Oron.

He mentioned the gunboats donated to the Navy as part of his holistic approach towards enhancing security in the State.

“In my administration, we take security very seriously and that is why we created the Ministry of Internal Security headed by Gen. Koko Essien, ( rtd).

Governor Eno thanked all security agencies for their collaborative role in maintaining peace in the State, assured that he was favourably disposed to working all to expand the frontiers of peace in the State.

“We run an all -inclusive government where women, youths, retired military officers, all play major roles.

The recent report by the International Press Institute (IPI), Nigeria, authored by the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times alleging an unfounded " Media Repression" in Akwa Ibom State under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, Governor of Akwa Ibom State is clearly misinforming, baseless, and unjustified for a government that has done so much for the media community that has enhanced the synergy of development in the State.

For the record, I was the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State when Pastor Umo Eno came into Office.

During his consultations prior to his nomination as a Candidate of his Party for the Gubernatorial election, one of the earliest institutions he visited and met with members to sell his aspiration was the NUJ.

He was warmly received by the leadership and members and pledged a support of N10Million for the roofing project of the auditorium which was redeemed and that project executed successfully for that stage.

It is also on record, the regular media interactive sessions with Governor Umo Eno which further strengthened his media relationship as he has consistently addressed our welfare challenges.

During one of such interactive sessions, Governor Umo Eno directed that his administration will take full completion of the auditorium project at the NUJ premises, a project started over 20 years ago.

Let me also recall that when the ARISE Agenda was to be launched in July 2023, the NUJ was part of the team that made significant contributions to the template of the success story of the implementation so far, of this governance work plan for Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno also invited the NUJ to be part of the inaugural retreat of his administration held in Lagos State which the Union made significant contributions.

Governor Umo Eno is the first Governor in Nigeria's history to have over 50 media aides driving the projection of the ARISE Agenda positively.

Governor Umo Eno is the first and only Governor in Akwa Ibom State to have hosted the 2025 NUJ Thanksgiving Service in his hometown Church, The Apostolic Church, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area in January this year and acknowledged the role and partnership of the media in nation building.

At that memorable event, he announced a donation of an SUV to myself and cars for members of the State Working Committee.

Governor Umo Eno is the first Nigerian Governor to be honoured by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for two years consecutively as Nigeria's Most Friendly Media Governor.

He has been honoured by the Akwa Ibom State Council of the NUJ and is also our Grand Patron.

On August 1,2025 Governor Umo Eno made history in Nigeria when he visited the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council and commissioned the auditorium project which started over 20 years ago and completed by his administration, and presented cars to members of the State Working Committee, the first by any Governor in Nigeria since Independence.

That event was witnessed by the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya and the leadership of the NUJ, Zone F (South South).

He has hosted the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference few months after his inauguration and was widely celebrated for his media friendly disposition; an event that was attended by notable veterans like His Excellency, Aare Segun Osoba, Uncle Sam Amuka Pemu , publisher of the Vanguard Newspaper and other notable personalities. He has also hosted the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations Practitioners where he was commended on the legacies he is building in Akwa Ibom State.

The Governor has further supported Journalists in their welfare and human capacity development programmes.

For the International Press Institute to spew such negative narrative about a Governor who has strongly built the State on a platform of unity in which the media community clearly identifies and projects the milestones of the ARISE Agenda is clearly mischievous

For the record, Journalists continue to have a strong synergy of working relationship with the Government as no record exists anywhere of any form of repression in the state or being hounded by security agencies .

For a renowned Institution like the IPI, the basis of judgement lacks ethical valuation.

Facts must remain sacred and as Journalists we must work along the lines of our professional callings and build our democracy with stronger ethical standards.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, have taken a firm swipe at critics of Governor Umo Eno, describing recent attacks as products of bitterness, deliberate misinformation, and attempts to distort the administration’s achievements, even when election results show that some of the loudest critics have no political strength in their own localities.

This position was made clear during the November Monthly Press Briefing held on Monday, December 1, where the spokespersons reaffirmed that Governor Eno remains focused on advancing development under the ARISE Agenda despite orchestrated distractions.

Responding to questions on Governor Eno’s millionaire-creation drive, Commissioner Umanah stated that the administration has already produced “well over a thousand millionaires across the LGAs.” He explained that more than 600 beneficiaries emerged from the N5 million SME Fund and other empowerment grants, while the Governor has deliberately ensured that young professionals with proven competence are engaged to handle state projects, further expanding opportunities for wealth creation. He stressed that the Governor’s empowerment model is structured, sustained, and outcome-driven.

The Chief Press Secretary also lauded Governor Eno’s commitment to reconciliation, welfare, and prudent governance. He described the recent attacks by certain commentators as “driven by bitterness,” and warned journalists against blackmail and black journalism, noting that such conduct undermines societal harmony and will attract consequences.

Earlier in the briefing, the Commissioner for Information emphasized the State Government’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability. He announced the Governor’s approval for the payment of the 13th-month salary, Enomber, to all public servants.

Highlighting progress in the health sector, Umanah recalled the commissioning of the fully equipped General Hospital at Ikot Akpankuk, Ukanafun, the first functional hospital in the area since 1976, alongside a 2.2km access and internal road network and complementary infrastructure. He added that the administration re-engaged retired health workers to strengthen manpower and sustain reforms.

During the period under review, Governor Eno advanced several infrastructure and tourism projects, including the commencement of the CNG Bus Station and the Oron Maritime Infrastructure. The government also deepened manpower development efforts, strengthened transparency mechanisms, reviewed the Aviation Village Project, and commenced the AKBC broadcast infrastructure project among others.

The State consolidated partnerships in housing and the oil sector with participation in the Sail Away Ceremony for the EMEM FPSO operated by Oriental Energy and the groundbreaking for the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate at Ekpene Ukim.

Reinforcing his commitment to human capital development, Governor Eno held an unprecedented interactive session with all 783 political appointees, emphasizing unity, loyalty, and equitable access to government programmes. He also inspected major projects across Nsit Ubium and Eket LGAs, including the remodeled Cottage Hospital, the Model Primary School, and the Nsit Ubium–Eket Road, directing contractors to maximize the dry season for speedy delivery.

The Governor rounded off the month by presenting a ₦1.39 trillion “People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth” to the State House of Assembly, with 75% allocated to capital expenditure and 25% to recurrent. The budget—shaped by priorities raised at Town Hall Meetings across the State, represents a 16% reduction from the revised 2025 estimate.

In agriculture, the Governor inspected ongoing upgrades at AKADEP, now repositioned under the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to drive the Agricultural Business Unit and lead the State’s Tree Crop Revolution aimed at rural wealth creation and expanded palm oil production.

On tourism, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Udofia, announced that the State is fully ready for the 32-day Christmas Unplugged 3.0 festival beginning December 1. The Governor’s Delivery Advisor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, added that the 2025 edition will deliver richer content, higher entertainment value, and stronger economic returns, building on the successes of the 2024 celebration.

The Chairman of the Hotels and Tourism Board, Mrs. Ime Udo, encouraged journalists to continue projecting the State’s socio-economic and cultural strengths.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Akparawa James Edet, appreciated all participants and reminded journalists that “breaking news should not break the society.”

Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, has commended his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, CON, for rallying support for President Tinubu , GCFR, as he confronts the current challenges facing the nation.

In a widely publicized report in both the conventional and social media platforms such as the highly reputed Guardian newspaper, the immediate past Governor was quoted to have stated, while fielding questions from newsmen after a church event at the United Evangelical Church, Suru-Lere, Lagos, yesterday, November 30th, 2025, that “this is not the time to dwell on factors that create division or the issues that expand the frontiers of our disagreements and further undermine our national security”

He stated further that we should “ rather as a people pull together to confront our common enemies by giving every necessary support to President Tinubu, to enable him face the current challenges facing our country.”

In a release by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno, thanked his predecessor for rallying support for the President.

“This is a welcome development and a testament to the fact in spite of our political differences, we are united in our support and therefore,must rally behind the President as he confronts the challenges facing our dear nation.

“This, indeed speaks so eloquently about the Akwa Ibom United mantra we have been championing and I salute and thank my predecessor for this patriotic act” the statement added.

In his continued bid to contribute to development in his community, Mr Paul Sylvester, an aide to Governor Umo Eno, has flagged-off road grading project in Obio Offot, Uyo, as a measure to make roads in the community more accessible especially in the approaching dry season and yuletide period.

Conducting the official flag-off, Sylvester explained that when roads in the area are graded, the road users will gain enormously as it will help boost economic activities in the area, while complementing the ARISE Agenda of the governor in community development.

He also used the opportunity to rally grassroot support for Gov Umo Eno's administration, adding that through the ARISE Agenda of the governor, many people and communities have been lifted in several positive ways.

"I am doing this road grading in honour of His Excellency my boss, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD. He has led by example and I learn from his method of developing our state through community centered projects."

"Let me specially thank our leaders who have done their bids to develop Obio Offot and even ensured we are able to do great things. Of special mention is the Delivery Advisor to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh."

"I call on my brothers and sisters and my friends to keep supporting Pastor Umo Eno, PhD and his ARISE Agenda. The governor means well and with our support, he will do a lot for us", he said.

The road grading which is not the first of such intervention from the governor's aide, is one of the several initiatives Mr Sylvester has undertaken in his community in order to contribute to the needs of the community.

Leaders and stakeholders of Obio Offot including the youth president, expressed their appreciation and commendation to him for constantly giving back to his community, and thanking Gov Eno for appointing Paul as his aide.

On his part, the village head of Obio Offot, Eteidung Cyril Umanah, applauded the gesture, describing it as "a noble initiative from a good son of the soil", and prayed for him to succeed in his endeavors to do good to his community.

A community leader, Cpt. Aniedi-Abasi Ubit, also stated that, "Paul Sylvester is one of us whom we are very proud of; he has always been a community minded person even before his appointment. This is not the first time he is grading roads for us and we appreciate him for the consistency."

The youth leader who also spoke, praised the governor's aide and described him as a good ambassador whom the youth are delighted to identify with.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended the member representing Urue Offong/Oruko State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Precious Selong, for successfully striking a balance between her marital responsibilities and public service, distinguishing herself as a model of a contemporary African woman.

Governor Eno made the commendation during the 25th wedding anniversary of Rt. Hon. Precious Selong and spouse, a zonal director in the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education , Elder Edem Selong, held at Methodist Church Nigeria, 67 Udo Umana Street, Uyo.

He said that his decision to identify with Mrs Selong on the special occasion was inspired by her ability to maintain a stable and balanced growth in both her political life and marital role to create positive impact in the State.

He congratulated the couple on their 25th anniversary, thanking God for keeping them together in the past 25 years, with their union blessed with healthy grown-up children as evidence of God’s blessing and fruitfulness.

“I thank God for what he has done to Mr and Mrs Selong, and we bless God for your lives. To me, I am here today to rejoice with you, that’s why I told the Archbishop that I came for a Thanksgiving. Anyone who understands Thanksgiving will not want to miss it. I celebrate with you for 25 years, not 25 days.

“God has kept you through. The preacher has made a very strong point. It is particularly for your wife, Elder Precious.

“She has grown politically, so she has grown her home maritally. Not many women would grow politically and still maintain their homes. That should be the lesson we should take home today.

“To hold political office as a lady, if God does not help you, you will lose your home. The aspect of honouring your husband would be thrown to the dustbin because at that time, you are the voice. In fact, they could even refer or address your husband by your own name. So that would mean going back home and always reassuring the man that he is in charge.

“For twenty-five years, you have done that. I want to thank God for you. That your husband could agree to come with you after 25 years to thank God shows that you are doing well. That’s the lesson,” he said.

Governor Eno acknowledged and thanked the Methodist Church Nigeria for its role and unwavering support during his electioneering campaign leading to his emergence as the Governor, and promised to serve as a true servant of God and representative of the body of Christ.

“We thank the Church for the support that they have given to us. Methodist Church is one of the churches that led the crusade for my election from the time of His Eminence, Prelate Sunday Mbang, who has gone to be with the Lord.

The State Chief Executive admonished Christians to desist from unnecessary negative criticism, but join hands to build a peaceful and united Akwa Ibom where dividends of true democracy thrive.

He reassured of his commitment to rendering transparent and accountable service, with a promise not to fail them.

“As a Government, I can tell the Church that we are on course, and you can do that assessment yourself. We are not perfect, we cannot be perfect, no one government can solve the problem of the entire people, but we will keep building concept upon concept, block upon block, and we believe that so far we are doing our best and we are giving our all,” he said.

He announced the formal opening of the State Christmas festival celebration from December 1, 2025, and banned masquerade display in the festival, cautioning Local Government Chairmen to exclude them from their cultural presentations, stressing that the status of Akwa Ibom as a Christian State must be maintained at all cost.

“This year’s Christmas celebration opens up tomorrow. We will begin with Christmas Unplugged. We will be at the Christmas village. Please, I stand on this altar to say no masquerade in that place. I am not endorsing it. Don’t bring tradition where people carry masks and smoke is oozing out of their mouths and their heads. This is a Christian State and let us not go and awaken something that would not edify God.

“Let me say today as the Governor of this State, we ban masquerades in our streets. They are using it to terrorize people, using it to extort money and terrify innocent citizens in the State.

“By my office as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, I am issuing an order, anyone that would be caught would be arrested and prosecuted. They have used it to cause havoc in some local governments. As the Chief Security Officer of the State, I am directing the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute masquerades. Let it stop terrorizing people, and let people have peace. We will continue to promote our culture, but we will not promote tradition,” he said.

On the Christmas celebration, the Governor directed the Accountant General to pay the 13th month salary, popularly known as Eno-mber, to workers before December 20, 2025.

He also assured that rice will be sent to all the villages across the State through the local government council, and will be supported by political office holders during the December home-going event.

Preaching on the topic “Two Are Better Than One” drawn from Ecclesiastes 4:11-14, the Archbishop of Uyo Diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. John E. Koko-Bassey, described Rt. Hon. Precious Selong as a testament of a great woman, blessed with the divine capacity to handle matrimonial responsibility without derailing or interfering in her leadership role.

He described their marriage anniversary as a great reminder of the biblical golden principle which states that “two are better than one” and charged Christian couples to emulate them for the growth of the society.

The cleric defined marriage as an institution where destiny is grown, knowledge is multiplied, nurtured and life created and impacted.

Rev. Bassey congratulated the couple for respecting the sanctity of marriage irrespective of their distinctive critical leadership roles in the State.

In her remark, the celebrator, Rt. Hon. Selong, expressed appreciation to the Governor for leading the entire State Government structure to grace the occasion.

She thanked the Governor for his people-centric administration and vibrant leadership policies which, according to her, have endeared people to him and promised to stand by him beyond 2027 to continue in his good works for the State.

Governor Umo Eno's vision of raising world-class entrepreneurs through the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre (Ibom-LED) recorded another milestone as 500 trainees who successfully completed a three-month Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme (EAP) graduated.

The certificate presentation ceremony held yesterday 28th November, 2025, at the Iconic Ibom-LED facility, former e-library, IBB Avenue, Uyo.

Speaking after presenting certificates to the graduates, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurial Development, Mr Ime Uwah, said the initiative fully sponsored by Governor Umo Eno, is part of his administration’s effort to build a resilient, opportunity-rich entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state.

Mr. Uwah, who doubles as the General Manager of Ibom-LED, described the ceremony as a testament to the Governor’s sustainable empowerment initiative. He noted that the beneficiaries had undergone months of intensive learning, unlearning, and rebuilding processes, adding that the training was critical for business growth.

According to Uwah, the newly certified entrepreneurs are now equipped with the discipline, skills, and strategic mindset required to scale their ventures in today’s competitive economic environment.

With this latest batch, Governor Umo Eno administration further strengthens its vision of creating a thriving network of homegrown entrepreneurs capable of driving innovation, job creation, and sustainable development across the State.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked a malicious and false report circulating on social media claiming that students of Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron, were kidnapped.

In a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, Ph.D, and the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, the government said the report was entirely false, noting that "no abduction or security incident ever occurred at Mary Hanney Secondary School or anywhere in Oron."

The statement, issued on November 28, 2025, described the social media claims as fabricated and intended only to create panic among residents.
Parents, guardians, and the public were urged to remain calm, disregard the false reports, and continue their daily activities without fear.

The Government also issued a stern warning to "peddlers of fake news" to desist from the act, noting that security agencies will take strict actions against anyone found spreading false information with the intent of inciting fear and panic within the State.

…International Flights Set to Resume in Uyo, First Quarter of 2026

Akwa Ibom State has achieved a historic milestone as the Federal Government has officially approved Victor Attah International Airport for full international flight operations.

The approval was secured today, Thursday, November 27, 2025, during a strategic meeting between Governor Umo Eno and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

This landmark development elevates Victor Attah International Airport into the elite class of Nigerian airports authorised for international traffic , thereby unlocking vast opportunities for global connectivity, tourism expansion, business growth, and increased foreign investment.

With this approval, the airport can now receive and process international airlines, operate cross-border flights, and serve as a direct international gateway linking Akwa Ibom to destinations across Africa and the wider world. International operations are expected to commence fully in the first quarter of 2026.

Governor Umo Eno, through sustained engagement and strategic leadership, has once again delivered a major win for the state. …Roads get 387.5bn, N31.6bn for Education, Health Gulps N136.1bn

A total of N1,390,000,000,000 (One Trillion, Three Hundred and Ninety Billion Naira) has been proposed for the 2026 Financial Year in Akwa Ibom State.

Of this amount, N354.867 billion or 25% of total budget is for Recurrent Expenditure, while N1,035 Trn representing 75% of the budget goes for Capital Expenditure.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pst. Umo Eno,PhD, who proposed these 2026 budget estimates before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Tuesday, explained that the budget represents a decrease of N260bn or 16percent from the revised 2025 budget.

The 2026 budget christened, “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth”, aims to cater for the needs of the people across the 3 senatorial districts and stems from the needs documents presented by respective stakeholders during the Town Square Meetings and Empowerment Series across the 10 federal constituencies in the State.

The capital expenditure estimate consists of N387.5 billion for Roads and other Infrastructure, N31.6 billion for Education and N136.1 billion for Health among others.

Additionally, the allocation of 75% of the total budget to capital expenditure is intentionally meant to accelerate and stimulate economic activities in the state in the 2026 fiscal year.


“I urge you to quickly pass this budget so we may continue to work for our people” he told the law makers reaffirming his commitment to the needs of the people of Akwa Ibom state”, Governor Eno appealed.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, “for that bold act he took by removing the petroleum subsidy which today, has made it possible for States to have more funds and resources to execute both recurrent and capital projects.”

Governor Eno maintained that his administration is on course with development for the people, “from agriculture to rural development, from infrastructure to security and educational advancements, tourism to healthcare, promotion of SMEs to sports, housing, transport among other key sectors.

“We are undertaking bold and audacious projects without borrowing and have earmarked resources to complete all the projects we have initiated. We thank the President again and assure him that to whom much is given, much is expected and we will deliver big for him come 2027.”


“As we speak, 69,107 (sixty-nine thousand one hundred and seven) farmers have benefited from our agricultural revolution; 13,060 registered farmers have benefited from Agric processing machines and equipment we have purchased for our farmers.


“The palm tree crop revolution, which we plan to launch soon, will create a generational wealth for our people, especially those in the rural areas. Through this revolution, government will actively get involved in palm tree planting and will eventually off-take from our farmers.”

“To make this project take off and run smoothly, I recently directed AKADEP, to be moved from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and a massive renovation exercise is ongoing in the facility. I intend to visit the facility from this presentation. We have bought tractors to aid our farmers, we will commission the tractor leasing company in December.

“We remain intentional in ensuring that there are ongoing projects in all the 31 local government areas- from model primary schools to model healthcare centres, 78 new feeder roads, 30 wet markets, water projects, electricity etc, all in line with our desire to stem rural- urban migration and ensure a good quality of life for our rural dwellers.”


“Also, Government has made provision for one project each for the 31 Local Government Areas taken specifically from the NEEDS documents earlier submitted by the 10 Federal Constituencies of the State during our Town Square Meetings.

“The outcome of this budget is based on citizens inputs documents as submitted to government during The State-Wide Town Square Meetings or Needs Assessment. In other words, it is a citizens-oriented budget.”

Governor Eno maintained that, “the policy thrust of the 2026 budget, which is titled THE PEOPLE’S BUDGET OF EXPANSION AND GROWTH will be anchored on the ARISE Agenda”, and will among other things, “Strengthen food security and sufficiency by expanding mechanized agriculture small-holder producers and promote value chains. Income earning potentials of rural households will be enhanced through home farm schemes, provision of access to farm inputs, credit and extension services as well as agro-processing support.

“The total Capital Receipts and Expenditure for the year 2026 is estimated at N1.035 trillion as against the approved revised provision of N1.224 trillion for 2025. A total projected Capital Receipts shows that N791.978 billion will be transferred from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, while the balance of N243.155 billion is to be realized from other capital receipts.”


The Governor maintained that the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, will as usual, provide additional details on the sectoral allocations, insisting that “the 2026 people’s budget for growth and expansion reflects the request made by the stakeholders of each of the 31 Local Government Areas during our Town Square Meetings.

“The funds allocated to each of these 31 projects will be disclosed by the Hon. Commissioner for Budget during his planned media briefing.”

He urged the speedily passage of the budget, assuring that “our governance compass, the Arise Agenda, is on a steady course, the achievements we have recorded in the past two years plus are inspiring. Let us continue to stay together in peace and in harmony so our people can thrive in this great Land of Promise.



In his response, the Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong, commended the Governor on the presentation of the budget, saying it aligns with the State’s ARISE Agenda with emphasis on Agriculture, rural development, healthcare and other things.

He also thanked the governor on behalf of his colleagues, for his promise to remodel the AKHA complex.

“As the 2026 budget is laid before us today, we will, as always, examine it critically to ensure that it aligns with Your Excellency's vision for our state, through effective oversight, we will ensure that the budget delivers on the promises to stimulate and grow the economy of our Akwa Ibom people.

“Our aim is not merely to approve figures, but to ensure efficient allocation of resources, elimination of waste, and duplication, centering of physical discipline, prioritising of projects that directly uplift the lives of our citizens, with the ARISE Agenda as our guiding framework, and with continued collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature, I am confident that our state is on the path to unprecedented growth and prosperity’, the Speaker added.

Work has reached advanced stage on an extensive renovation of the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo, marking what is arguably the most comprehensive upgrade since the facility was commissioned nearly 20 years ago.

Leading newsmen around the project, the Delivery Advisor to the Governor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, explained that the renovation is part of Governor Umo Eno’s broader vision to reposition tourism as a major pillar of the State’s economy.

He recounted that the Governor had recently visited the project location few days ago, “what you see here is the mock-up room approved by His Excellency the Governor, in continuation of a full-scale renovation of this hotel.

“Recall that this hotel was built about 18 years ago, and over that period, natural wear and tear set in. Facilities had deteriorated, which is expected, and His Excellency, in line with his commitment to making tourism a mainstay of our economy, ordered a holistic overhaul.”

According to Sir Udoh, the Governor has directed the revamp of all major tourism assets in the state, with the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, widely regarded as Akwa Ibom’s premier hospitality destination, taking priority.

He explained that the renovation includes a complete strip-down of the hotel’s interior spaces.

“What we have done here, as directed by His Excellency, is to strip the entire hotel. From the corridors to the rooms, everything is brand new, from the ceilings to the bathrooms. The only items not being replaced are the window frames and the physical structure of the rooms. Everything else is undergoing replacement.”

He added that, because the hotel has 163 rooms, uniform upgrades will be carried out across all wings. To avoid shutting down operations entirely, the project is being executed in phases.

“We decided, as directed by the Governor, to begin renovations with 40 rooms so that the hotel remains functional. This sample room represents the approved standard. We are working hard to have these rooms ready before Christmas.”

Beyond the interior work, major mechanical upgrades are also underway.

“As part of this renovation, His Excellency approved the purchase of new chillers. These are the cooling systems for the hotel. The old units had deteriorated over the years. The new chillers have arrived and are currently at the port awaiting clearance.”

He further disclosed that the Governor has approved and purchased three brand-new gas-powered 1,500 KVA generators to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for the resort.

“All the equipment here are brand new. These chiller lines are brand new. Installation has been completed. This will ensure that, ultimately, we have a hotel that matches international standards.”

Sir Udoh also revealed that the Governor approved the procurement of new solar powered surveillance cameras to strengthen the resort’s security infrastructure and reduce the load on public power supply.

He also confirmed that two contractors are currently working simultaneously on-site to meet project delivery timelines.

The Delivery Advisor reiterated that the Governor’s goal is to restore the resort to its original five-star status.

“His Excellency’s dream is to bring back this hotel to full five-star standard. The quality of furnishing and finishing you see here will be replicated throughout the entire establishment.”

The people of Ukanafun Local Government Area are in high anticipation as Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, arrives today November 21, 2025, to commission a state-of-the-art General Hospital.

The health facility, which was abandoned for over 15 years, is in fulfilment of the Governor's commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare delivery to the innermost parts of the state.

On assumption of office, the Governor made it clear that he was going to be intentional about the health of the people. His decision to resuscitate the Ukanafun General Hospital is, therefore, part of a broader, intentional overhaul of the state’s health architecture.

The previously neglected hospital, once a mere shadow of its intended purpose, has now been transformed into a functional, modern medical centre complete with new wards, diagnostic spaces, and serene surroundings tailored for patient recovery.

Also, a newly constructed 2.2km access and internal roads will be commissioned to ensure easy access to the hospital, guaranteeing smooth movement for emergency cases, health workers, and patients.

The hospital also comes with fully-furnished staff quarters to house medical personnel and eliminate the age-long challenge of manpower shortage due to distance.

The entire facility is powered by a hybrid system equipped with strong solar backup to ensure uninterrupted services.

This intervention is only one thread in a much larger tapestry of reforms that have drawn applause across Nigeria, the Governor declared a State of Emergency in the health sector on September 12, a decisive step that has triggered a total overhaul of the system.

So far, under his emergency intervention, over 25 Primary Healthcare Centres are currently being rehabilitated across the state, receiving new infrastructure, equipment, and improved service frameworks.

In addition, about 3,000 health workers are currently being recruited including 2,000 full-time staff and 1,000 experienced retirees to plug the manpower gap worsened by the "Japa" syndrome.

A fresh review of the consolidated medical salary structure for doctors has been approved alongside five new allowances to improve staff welfare and motivate retention.

Technical teams of architects and surveyors are already working across the state, with a target to deliver fully revitalized general hospitals equipped with new accommodation by March next year.

Through these reforms, Akwa Ibom is repositioning its health system for efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability. Agencies such as the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency and the Primary Health Care Development Agency have also affirmed that significant progress is being achieved under the current administration's health policy framework.

For nearly half a century, the people of Ukanafun lived with a painful reality: the absence of a functional general hospital.

It was a void so deep that generations grew up knowing suffering as normal with women travelling long distances in labour, emergencies handled on makeshift carriers, and families relying on towns like Abak and Uyo for the most basic medical attention.

Since the creation of Ukanafun in 1976, hope for secondary healthcare was a dream repeatedly deferred, a yearning passed down from one generation to another.

Today, Friday, November 21, 2025, that long and difficult wait finally ends.

Ukanafun now braces for a moment that will be etched into its collective memory with the commissioning of its first fully functional, world-standard General Hospital. It is a feat made possible through the intervention, persistence, and compassion-driven leadership of Governor Umo Eno.

The hospital project began in 2009 as a humble cottage health facility, abandoned midway and left to rot like another symbol of forgotten promises. The jinx of stagnation continued for years until Governor Umo Eno stepped in.

Not only did he revive the long-abandoned project, he upgraded, expanded, modernized, and completed it, transforming what was once a skeletal structure into a comprehensive, life-saving medical institution.

His intervention didn’t just complete a project; it corrected a decades-old injustice suffered by the people of Ukanafun.

Today, the new General Hospital stands not merely as another government building but as a powerful symbol of dignity restored. The facility offers a 62-bed capacity, fully equipped maternity units, a modern diagnostic centre, and a functional pharmacy. Oxygen wall units are strategically installed across the wards, while residential quarters for medical personnel ensure round-the-clock healthcare delivery.

To guarantee uninterrupted power, the hospital runs on solar installations supported by two backup generators. In its design and functionality, it meets world-class medical standards - an ambitious leap for a community that once had none.

Ahead of the commissioning today, excitement has swept across Ukanafun. Residents are cleaning streets, beautifying compounds, and preparing energetically for the Governor’s arrival. The atmosphere echoes one emotion: profound gratitude.

People still recall how pregnant women journeyed to Abak or Uyo for antenatal care, how emergencies often ended in avoidable deaths, and how basic medical attention was considered a luxury. Now, they speak of a rebirth.

Women describe the hospital as a “lifeline,” and elders see it as “the beginning of safe living.” The hospital is also expected to serve border communities from Rivers and Abia States, expanding its impact beyond the boundaries of Ukanafun.

Ukanafun’s transformation under Governor Umo Eno extends beyond healthcare. The area, once plagued by infrastructural decay and a period of insecurity, has witnessed a new wave of development.

Improved road networks, clean water facilities, Compassionate Homes, a model primary school, and meaningful appointments for indigenes are among the visible interventions.

Together, these efforts have repositioned Ukanafun from a community struggling to survive into one steadily reclaiming its potential.

Governor Umo Eno has consistently anchored his leadership on compassion, inclusion, and a bottom-up development philosophy. Mrs. Peters, an indigene of Ikot Akpandem in Eket Local Government Area, brings to the role an impressive blend of administrative experience, security intelligence expertise, and proven leadership within the civil service.

A distinguished career civil servant, she has served the state for more than two decades, rising through the ranks with a record of excellence, diligence, and discipline.

She holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Master of Science in Public Order and Information Management, a Master’s in Public Administration, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sociology and Anthropology.

Her academic background is complemented by extensive professional trainings both within Nigeria and internationally, covering intelligence analysis, crime prevention, public administration, leadership, and security management.

Before her nomination as Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Peters served as Permanent Secretary in the Special Services Department of the Governor’s Office, where she oversaw sensitive security operations, coordinated intelligence reports, and represented the state at crucial federal security meetings.

She is also an accomplished resource person, being involved in training hundreds of civil servants in security administration and public service ethics.

Over the course of her career, she has earned multiple recognitions, including the Adamawa State NYSC Honours Award, the Most Hardworking Civil Servant Award, and several commendations for punctuality, service delivery, and professionalism.

Says Akwa Ibom is Driving Sub - National Wealth Creation

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold fiscal and financial reforms, saying that Akwa Ibom is domesticating national policies into tangible local wealth creation. The Governor made this known at the Moneyline Investment Forum held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja,
Represented by delegation led by the Commissioner for Information , Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, and the Managing Director of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Pastor Imoh Abasi Jacob. Governor Eno emphasized that Nigeria is at a defining moment, and subnational governments must actively harness reforms to boost productivity, innovation, and economic growth within their states.

In a keynote address on the theme “Nigeria’s New Financial Landscape: Reforms, Risks, and the Road to Wealth Creation,” the Governor praised the Federal Government for introducing transformative policies, including the Investment and Securities Act 2025, the Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025, new tax laws, and the deregulation of the electricity market. They stressed that while these reforms mark a decisive shift in Nigeria’s economic trajectory, the real challenge is to convert reforms into results and policies into prosperity.

A DEMONSTRATION OF HIGH PERFORMANCE, FISCAL TRANSPARENCY IN AKWA IBOM STATE

The Akwa Ibom State 2025 Budget of Consolidation and Expansion of the administration of Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D has in the third quarter review hit a record 86.9 percent performance achieved.

The budget prepared In accordance with the International Public Accounting Standard {IPSAS} with prevailing macro-economic assumptions was presented with templates of an oil benchmark of $75 per barrel, a national Gross Domestic Product [GDP} of 3.68 percent and an appropriation of N955 billion signed into law.

In line with the transparency policy of the administration of Governor Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 through the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning led by Dr. Linus Nkan presented the third quarter 2025 report. The aggregate revenue inflow from both FAAC and Independent Revenue stood at N318 Billion while the performance year to date represents N897.1 billion indicating 108.1 percent against the approved N830 Billion total amount estimated for FAAC and independent revenue.

The media briefing was the third in the series and yet another commitment by the Akwa Ibom State Government in ensuring that while being sincere to the vision and commitment to accountability and transparency gives every citizen of the State a clear view of how funds accrued are being judiciously utilised for sustainable development that has touched all sectors of the ARISE Agenda.

The third quarter presentation consolidates the previous two briefings and is a basic financial template of governance that provides a right to correct information on expenditure, dispel misinformation and giving a platform of presenting the facts as it is in line with requirements of best practices.

It once again reaffirms the hallmark of good governance the Umo Eno administration has come to be identified with as the resources of the State belong to the people and the need to give periodic information on the impacts of budget performance in the fiscal year.

For the record, the third quarter of the fiscal year ended on September 30, 2025 and the report was published in the State website on October 28, 2025 in line with the laws and guidelines of fiscal responsibility.

What this means for Akwa Ibom State in 2025 highlights the success story of the ARISE Agenda in all sectors especially with the 86.9 percent performance so far and with the last quarter of the year on course, working with a Supplementary Budget which put the total budget at N1.65trillion, government projects including existing roads across the 31 Local Government Areas, Tourism with the unveiling of the ARISE Resort, Christmas Unplugged 3:0, the Ibom Convention Centre and Ibom Hotels, the Victor Attah International Airport expansion alongside the Aviation school within the ecosystem, the Luxury Estate at Ewet, the ongoing healthcare reforms which is under a State of Emergency with massive strides achieved, sports upgrade which has started yielding laurels for the State, agricultural growth and the revolutionary turn around in the education sector with Model Primary Schools and the pilot Secondary Model School which would be in all three Senatorial Districts in the State remain on course for completion .

Akwa Ibom State has become Nigeria’s most peaceful State and this ambience has not only made it a destination for almost every renowned institution in the country but provides new windows of opportunities for investors to make bold decisions in the thriving economy that abounds with a strong socio-economic base.

In two years and five months in Office, Governor Umo Eno has shown transparency and prudence in the management of the State’s resources. The new norm of this administration is hinged on commitment to service with quality delivery.

Thus, his leadership has not thrown the State into any form of borrowing nor external debts as the judicious use of funds remains cardinal under his watch in driving the massive projects with the drive of meeting all set deadlines.

The quarterly budget performance review has enabled a convergence between state actors and non state actors. This is participatory democracy in action and geared towards gaining public trust from the people of Akwa Ibom State who have come to love the policies of sustainable development through the ARISE Agenda.

By the end of the fiscal year on the 31st of December, 2025, the last quarter presentation will capture the overall provisions of the successful implementation of the Budget and this means development in abundance, more revenue for the State with smiles on the faces of the people as the gains of the ARISE Agenda spreads across the land.

Dr. Linus Nkan, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and his team have demonstrated excellence in keeping the masses abreast on government performance index.

For the Commissioner for Information, Hon. {Dr.} Aniekan Umanah who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Akparawa James Edet, the quarterly budget presentation once again has drawn Government closer to the people, gained more public trust and shown the transparency in leadership of the present administration.

The media at the event through the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John reaffirmed the commitment of the Fourth Estate of the Realm in ensuring that the State continues to thrive in policies that would enhance the well being of the citizens and commended the course of development in the last three quarters of the fiscal year while reassuring that the Union will continue to build positively on the focal points of the ARISE Agenda.

The index of development in Akwa Ibom State is clearly on the rise. For Governor Umo Eno, the periodic review of the progress of projects being undertaken by his administration is matching the performance growth of the 2025 Budget of Consolidation and Expansion, clearly delivered and in sync with the wishes and satisfaction of the people. Expectations are high that this last quarter will end on a high note and when the review performance will be made, it shall be a new pathway to usher the Peoples Budget in 2026 into a new season of superior performance and sustainability

The remote community of Ikot Ekpaw, Ikpa Ikono in Mkpat Enin local government area, was sent into a jubilant mood as villagers, Government officials, friends gathered for the commissioning of a mini-water project yesterday.

The project was initiated and executed by the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Amb. Ofonime Essien, in memory of the State’s First Lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

Among those at the event were, the Chairman of Mkpat Enin local government area, Vice Chairman of Mkpat Enin local government area, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Commissioner for Youth Development, SSA on Research and Documentation and other personal aides of the Governor, and other government officials.

Setting the tone for the commissioning, the initiator, Amb. Ofonime Essien, said it was done out of the blueprint and compassionate legacy left by the First Lady, Pst. Patience Umo Eno.

“She gave hope to those who looked up to her and that resulted in transformational growth.

“As long as people drink this water, they will always remember Mummy and her compassionate heart.”

She christened the project after the First Lady, Pst. Patience Umo Eno.

The water was commissioned on behalf of the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Helen Obareki, by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga.

Princess Ibanga expressed profound gratitude to the PA for naming the water project after the First Lady, stating that her legacy and teachings paved ways to such growth.

She added that the First Lady played a major role and supported her to be where she is now.

Hon. Emem charged young women to see Amb. Ofonime Essien as their role model and invest primarily in their community.

Speaking during the event, The chairman of Mkpat Enin, Emmanuel John Inyang and Commissioner for Youth Dr Ekerete Ekanem applauded Amb. Essien for aligning with the ARISE Agenda of Pst. Umo Eno by focusing on rural development and public health.

…Says Nigeria is in Safe Hands Under President Tinubu

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called for stronger unity and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, assuring that Nigeria is on a sure path of recovery and renewal under their leadership.

The Governor made the call during a reception held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, after the funeral of the late Deaconess Eno Nnana Usoro, mother of the Deputy Governor (Operations) of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Ms. Emem Usoro.

Governor Eno, who expressed deep appreciation to the President and Vice President for honouring the state with their presence at the solemn event, described the occasion as “a reaffirmation that Nigeria’s leadership is united in purpose and humanity.”

“Our nation is in safe hands under President Tinubu,” Governor Eno declared. “We in Akwa Ibom will continue to support his administration and work closely with the National Assembly led by our own Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to advance the Renewed Hope agenda and the ARISE vision of inclusive growth.”

He urged citizens to shun divisive politics and align with the collective national direction, stressing that development thrives only in an atmosphere of cooperation and shared commitment.

In a message delivered by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu commended Governor Eno for what he described as “visionary and impactful leadership that has placed Akwa Ibom on a steady path of progress.”

The President also paid glowing tribute to the late Deaconess Usoro, describing her as “a great story of grace, faith and service whose legacy will outlive her.”

The coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom state, Lady Helen Obareki, has commended the Chairman of Ukanafun local government, Mr Uyo Ukpanah for prioritizing rural development, infrastructural reforms and women and youth empowerment schemes, saying they speak to Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda initiative.

Lady Obareki spoke yesterday at Ukanafun during a brief ceremony to celebrate the one year anniversary of the local administration’s the area.

Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Inibehe Silas, she commended the Chairman for following Governor Eno’s blue print in rural development.

The Commissioner expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman for naming the women development center block after the State’s First Lady, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, saying, “the honour in her memory which preserves her legacy, shows how impactful she was to the people of Akwa Ibom state.

She commended the Chairman who through his wife, presented business support cash of 100,000 naira each to 100 women in the area and urged the women to put the funds to judicious use, assuring that she would personally brief the Governor on the numerous projects successfully completed in Ukanafun within one year.

In his speech, the chairman, Prince Uyo Ukpanah, highlighted that his focus on rural development, infrastructure advancement and economic empowerment, signified his alignment with Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

Prince Ukpanah, who assumed office in October 2024, reflected on the past year as one of dedicated service and transformative progress.

“This milestone is not just about tenure but tangible impacts we’ve made in improving the lives of our people where the projects have benefits to the grassroots, guided by the Arise agenda.

He also stated that his administration was big in grading of roads in all 13 wards of Ukanafun to enhance inter-community access and transportation, renovation of the council secretariat, completion of women development Centre and remodeling and furnishing of the legislative chambers.

Mr Ukpanah also recounted that he had acquired officials cars for the Secretary of Council and the Leader of the Legislative Council, and further established solar powered borehole water in four communities.

“In the coming months, we shall Prioritize the renovation of health care centers, primary schools, agricultural productivity and youth development”.

Meanwhile, During the anniversary celebration, the First Lady of Ukanafun Local Government Area spearheaded a people-centric empowerment initiative, distributing N10 million among 100 beneficiaries, each receiving N100,000 to boost their small and medium scale businesses.

Other dignitaries who delivered goodwill messages included Rt. Hon Emem Udom, Ukanafun House of Assembly Member, Mrs Aniekan Owen the Vice chairman Ukanafun, Elder Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, SA on humanitarian affairs to the Governor, Elder Aniekan Akpan, State PDP Chairman, HRM Akuku (Engr.) Amos Akpan (Paramount Ruler Ukanafun), and other senior government officials.

Ward councilors, local residents, empowered beneficiaries commended the chairman, maintaining that his administration showed how effective local governance can directly impact lives at grassroots, mirroring Governor Umo Eno’s vision of advancing and sustaining rural development across the state.

Highlight of the event was the laying of foundation for the traditional rulers chambers and the presentation of wrappers to women in the area.

Something spectacular happened across Akwa Ibom, Nigeria's 21st State, on 21st October, 2025. It was a day Governor Umo Eno confirmed once again that his administration's prioritization of the youth is beyond the rubrics of rheotric to actualities.

The governor seemingly suspended the traditional dictum that 'youths are the leaders to tomorrow." That tomorrow has been fast tracked and the youths made to walk into their future, a future brimming with opportunities.

All of this were contained in Governor Eno's message at the Flag-off of the youth friendly centre at Ibiaku Ikot Ukana, Ikono Local Government Area, where the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga.

The Flag-off was held simultaneously in eleven pilot local government areas across the State. If that passed for the story, what should pass for the memory verse is that all the commissioners who represented the Governor at the different locations were also youth. Therefore, even if it sounds selfish to say that this is "Government of the youth, by the youth and for the youth," it is safe to say that the flag off of the youth friendly centres was "a day of the youth, for the youth and by the youth." Governor Eno's representative at Ikono, Princess Emem Ibanga was the worthy ambassador of the youth there. She was accompanied by another signpost of the youth in the State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke.

The message of the Governor's representative, Princess Emem Ibanga centred on peace and development, to the point of nearly referring to her as "The Princess of Peace" but not for the fear of sounding blasphemous. But if that is allowed to pass her, certainly not the fact that she rightly passed for "Princess of the Youth." The Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner unveiled "youth affairs" of the governor.

Ever heard of the Nigerian expression, "You Finish Work!"? It is a unique version of commendation for excellent delivery! That is the most appropriate way to capture the novelty of this Governor Umo Eno's well-thought out idea of youth-friendly centres across Akwa Ibom State.

This could be lovely decided from the tone and tenor of the message of the Governor Eno through the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs. It could be deduced from this message that youths are the heartbeat of the Umo Eno administration, hence the commitment to fulfilling all the campaign promises for the youth.

The Governor’s message was wrapped in irresistible "wrapping paper" of peace. The message of peace was wrapped with peace.

Princess Ibanga conveyed the appreciation of the Governor to Ikono for donating the land for the project, and very importantly the peaceful disposition of youths of the area towards all government projects, and urged them to replicate same as the contractor commences work on the youth-friendly centre.

To cap it, the contract for the construction of the youth friendly centre at Ikono was awarded to a youth, and strategically, an indigene of Ikono Local Government Area.

The sprouting of youth-friendly centres across Akwa Ibom is a reminder of Governor Eno's pre-election promise that previous administrations had built the youth, therefore he was coming to literarily "roof" the youth. With the flag off that took place across the eleven pilot centres, the governor has not only roofed the youths, he has gone ahead to furnish them with golden furniture. In the actual sense, Governor Eno is building the youth for durability and sustainability.

It was therefore not surprising to hear the different stakeholders of Ikono, for instance, drum support for the governor's re-election in 2027.

The Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Otobong Essien said the youth friendly centres is synonymous with economic centres, and that since the governor never disappointed Ikono, the people will stand by him.

Representatives of the primary beneficiaries of the project, the youth, Mr Uwem Umoren, the women, Mrs Magdalene Effiong, royal fathers, and the entire political class were all united in reaffirming their support for Governor Eno.

Princess Ibanga then called on the people to replicate same support they pledged for Governor Eno to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Nothing short of this pledge of total support could have been more appropriate to a Governor that is a model for inclusivity in governance, running a government where the young and the old, men and women, are carried along as equal partners in the Akwa Ibom Project.

In a significant step towards youth empowerment, Governor Umo Eno has officially flagged off the construction of a Youth-Friendly Centre in Ikono Local Government Area. The initiative underscores his administration's dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Prince Emem Ibanga, Governor Eno reaffirmed that the core pillars of his ARISE Agenda are progressing as planned. He stated that his administration remains committed to fulfilling the mandate of its strategic blueprint.

"The aim of this hub is to ensure that every Akwa Ibom youth has access to opportunities that will better their lives and foster self-reliance," the Governor said. "These Youth-Friendly Hubs are more than just buildings; they are beacons of creativity and innovation."

He announced that these centres will be replicated across all 31 Local Government Areas. Each hub will serve as a collaborative innovation centre, complete with creative development spaces, ICT labs, e-libraries, enterprise incubation units, and coffee lounges equipped with full internet services.

The Governor commended the people of Ikono for their readiness to partner with the government and specifically lauded the Council Chairman for his proactive role, noting that Ikono was among the first ten LGAs to provide land for the project.

Governor Eno urged the youth to take ownership of the project to ensure its timely completion, emphasizing his administration's passion for transforming young lives in line with the ARISE Agenda. "I urge you to own this project and let it promote peace, unity, and togetherness in Ikono LGA," the Governor's representative stated.

In her welcome address, the Chairman of Ikono Local Government, Hon. Otobong Essien, praised the Governor for the laudable initiative and for keeping his promise to build the centre. He noted that it would serve as a vital economic platform for youths to harness their potential.

In a goodwill message, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Mr. Uwem Ekanem, lauded the Governor for the centre and reaffirmed unwavering support for the administration of Pastor Umo Eno.

The representative of the construction firm, George's Solutions Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Andikan Amaowoh, thanked the Governor for providing indigenous firms the opportunity to bid for jobs through the ARISE portal. He assured the community of the project's timely completion and appealed for their continued cooperation.

The event witnessed a large turnout of youths, women's groups, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders, reflecting support for the project.

Charges on Project Ownership, Sustainability

The State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially flagged off the construction of a Youth-Friendly Centre in Itu Local Government Area, in fulfilment of Aspiration 2 of the ARISE Agenda, focused on Youth Skill Development.

Performing the exercise on Tuesday, October 21, at the Itu Council Secretariat, Mbak Atai, Governor Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, stated that the initiative, launched simultaneously across ten pilot local government areas, reflects his administration’s vision to foster innovation and creativity among Akwa Ibom youths.

He explained that the Youth-Friendly Centres form part of a comprehensive skills acquisition initiative designed to equip young people with practical knowledge and tools to thrive in today’s dynamic and competitive world.

According to the Governor, each centre will feature a purpose-built facility that provides multi-sectoral training in business ideation, software design, enterprise development, and startup incubation, to nurture and support innovative ideas.

Upon completion, the centres will include an ICT Hub, E-Library, Coffee Shop, Recreation Lounge, Co-Working Space, and a Creative Development Centre, all powered by solar energy and fitted with modern security systems to ensure a safe, conducive environment for learning and collaboration.

Governor Eno expressed appreciation to the people and leaders of Itu for their cooperation and commitment, assuring that his administration will continue to deliver more developmental projects to the area and the entire State. He further charged the community, particularly the youths, to take ownership of the project to ensure its sustainability and long-term impact.

In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Helen Ntah, commended the Governor for the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in the area. He pledged the Council’s total support for the Governor’s developmental strides and his administration beyond 2027.

The Project Contractor, Arc. Fortune Umoh of Harvil’s Park Ltd., in his remarks, expressed delight at being part of such an innovative youth-oriented project and lauded the warm reception accorded him by the Council leadership. He pledged commitment to quality and timely delivery in accordance with specifications, while soliciting continued cooperation from the host community and youths to ensure successful execution and durability.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Council Secretary, Mr. Imoh Okon, the Paramount Ruler of Itu, Edidem Edet Inyang, and the Youth Leader, Mr. Ubong Mmong, commended Governor Eno for selecting Itu as one of the pilot LGAs for the project. They also reaffirmed their unflinching support for his administration, as well as for President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6, AIG Mohammed Musa Auwal, has commended Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for his unwavering support to the Nigerian Police, commitment to security and law enforcement.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor on Monday October 13, 2025, at the State Executive Council Chambers in Government House, Uyo, the AIG said if all the other State Governors had adopted Governor Eno's approach to security, challenges in the sector would have been better managed.

He commended the Governor for his impressive support to the State Command of the force, and requested that the cordial working relationship continue.

AIG Auwal particularly thanked Governor Eno for upgrading facilities and infrastructure in the State Police Headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia as well as in other stations across the State, and urged Governors of other States in the country to emulate the template set by Governor Eno.

In his remarks, Governor Eno stated that security and welfare of the citizenry remains a top priority of his administration.

He commended the selflessness of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies in ensuring optimum security, safety, and peace witnessed across the State.

"For us as a Government, our primary responsibility is the security and welfare of the people, because without security, there cannot be any development.

"It is, therefore, in this respect that we want to thank the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their cooperation and unity of purpose amongst them.

"We thank the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, for providing quality leadership among the security agencies in the State," he stated.

Governor Eno ascribed the milestone recorded in maintaining peace in the State to the support and collaboration of the force, acknowledging the importance of the service in the State and implored citizens and residents of the state to continue to support the Police and other security agencies to enable them deliver on their duties.

He acknowledged the exploits of AIG Mohammed when he once served in the State and pledged to continue to partner with him to support the critical work of policing the State for the safety of the people .

"We must work jointly to ensure the State's adequate security and safety. Our Command and Control Centre will soon be ready, and we will invite the Inspector General of Police for commissioning.

"We will also invite you to flag off the Counter-Terrorism Unit and Barracks in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area," he said.

Pastor Eno also promised to light up Police Stations in the State with solar panels for effective service delivery.

"We can't leave the people providing us security in darkness. Work on this is at advance stage, and very soon, we will be reporting the completion of that assignment,", he said.

The Governor said the peaceful nature of the state "is intentional and deliberate. And, we owe this to the hard work of the CP and other security agencies."

He commended the sincerity and prudence of CP Azare in managing well the support given to him by the State Government for the purposes of securing the State.

The Governor appreciated the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and AIG Mohammed, and expressed hope that in the course of their duty tour, they would make the State a top priority.

🎈Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to digitizing the State’s public service, as he unveiled the deployment of Computer-Based Test (CBT) technology in the forthcoming recruitment exercise.

🎈Governor Eno, who made this known during an inspection visit to the CBT Centre at the Idongesit Nkanta Secretariat on the Friday, October 10, 2025, confirmed the readiness of the facility, which has the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 candidates per day for the digitized aptitude test.

🎈He explained that the introduction of CBT in the civil service recruitment process is aimed at promoting merit, transparency, and efficiency while eradicating the influence of godfatherism.

“The Civil Service is the engine room of governance. The quality of people we bring into the service in this 21st century matters. The world has even moved to AI now, so we need people who at least understand basic computing to the extent that they can take an exam.

“This system will also eliminate godfatherism. People should have confidence that they got into the service by merit—by passing the required exams. We’re in the 21st century, and that’s the way it should be,” Governor Eno stated.

🎈The Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, who accompanied the Governor during the inspection, lauded his determination to institutionalize e-governance in Akwa Ibom. He noted that prospective candidates will be given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the system before the actual test, scheduled to hold in ten days.

🎈Also speaking, the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, assured that the CBT Centre is fully equipped with digitally integrated systems to conduct 2,000 tests daily. He emphasized that the facility was designed in line with the Governor’s vision of deploying technology to ensure transparency and merit-based recruitment into the State Civil Service.
