Politics / Dr. Glory Edet as a Unifying Political Decimal in Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency by Browndiary(m): 8:05am On May 12, 2022
The history of the Ntippe Ibibio calls for serious unity across board ,most especially at this critical period of political history as we prosecute the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

The natural resources embedded in Ikono/Ini is massive as well as the human resources which is found in abundance, one of which is Dr Glory Edet, a trusted and tested administrator, astute academician and unmatched politician by any standard. She has the innate qualities to build a strong political entity in the constituency inspite of the failures of past HOR political Representatives.

Her commitment to service as a Commissioner in various Ministries in the state and her capacity as Dean of Commissioners and Special Advisers, where she superintended her colleagues from other ministries is a clear testimonial of her forthrightness in Service delivery. She is presently seen as a unifying force in Ikono/Ini political equation.

It is the expectation of the people that she will perform excellently, when elected into the House to represent the Federal Constituency, given her antecedents in previous assignments bestowed on her.

As the opposition to her ambition keep building up, she is being strengthened every passing day, making her emboldened and ready to take up the assignment with strong determination.

One enduring legacy of Dr Glory Edet is that she doesn't have reservations for tribe, language, creed or social considerations. She is disposed to open door policy, freely associating with people and helping them as her ability can carry.

She has been seen as the voice that enrich the political conversation and a unifying factor in the political march to greatness. She is indeed an asset to the Ntippe Ibibio race.

For further emphasis, the people Ikono/Ini should begin to rally round nature's gift to the Ntippe Ibibio, as seen in Dr Gory Edet as the arrowhead, in strength, enthusiasm, will-power etc; so that they can reach their desired political destination and unparalled development never experienced before in the area.

Politics / Ikono/ini 2023: Sticking To The Law-breaker by Browndiary(m): 8:12pm On May 11, 2022
There is a biblical story of how Jesus Christ was accused of breaking the Sabbath day law. His crime, according to his accusers, was that he was healing people on the Sabbath day which was supposed to be work-free. For the sick ones Jesus healed and others he delivered, all that mattered was that Jesus was their Saviour. So while some saw his acts as criminal, some others saw same acts as what gave them eternal freedom (if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed — John 8:36).

For over a year, I've been following unfolding events in the polity of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency as it concerns the 2023 elections and who their next representative should be, and just like it would be for anyone else, the raised voices in the clamour for zoning did draw my attention. Apparently, the voices forming this sect are of the position that the current Rep, Hon Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, who is from the Ikono divide in the constituency should let go his second term bid and give way to a zoning arrangement which according to them, favours the Ini divide.

The writer being himself a maternal indigene of Ini was initially tempted to tilt towards this sentiment, especially with a woman at the Ini end as a possible beneficiary. However, it appeared that while the agitators were struggling to disentangle themselves from the web of having to market a newbie for a legislative succession, and without anything tangible other than a zoning arrangement, the incumbent Ukpong-udo was compounding their misery by giving them much more work to do by doubling the records of performance.
Such commitment to mandate delivery is not one to even place on same pedestal for comparison with a zoning arrangement that does not guarantee a matching, let alone, better replacement.

For all it matters in democracy, popularity and competence should lead the list of criteria, and same, the incumbent Ukpong-udo has so far invested above average efforts in passing the test. Just like any government or administration will pick an area of focus, his representation had picked human capital development to focus on, and the deliveries have been widely admitted to be superlative.

Matter of fact, he has made this focus appear much more like a passion by running a representative campaign originally structured to broaden the three core areas of legislation (lawmaking, oversighting and representation) to cover Welfare and Economic Empowerment, Employment and Job Creation, Education and Human Capital Development, as well as Infrastructure Development. And in each of these, marks have been made, and such that will leave behind effects beyond the short to the long and even longer terms.

For instance, his little efforts at job creation has seen over 112 constituents into permanent employment offers within the private sector, civil service and service organisations. This is not just above a hundred persons deducted from the mass of unemployed hands, but also the making of bread winners for more than a hundred families, and discouraging same number from resorting to crime by helping them find belief in the dignity of labour. In addition, his scorecard has a record of at least 20 constituents as beneficiaries of business startups between one and two million naira. In an economy where accessing capital in tens and hundreds of thousands to fund business ideas has been one herculean task, one regime of representation has been able to provide as much as a million naira each for up to 20 citizens.

This means that a beneficiary with business interest in fashion designing whose basic startup needs were a sewing machine and workstation, would be able to afford auxiliary equipments and still have some more funds left for such secondary needs as paid advertising to announce their brands into the market. And all of these, plus the N500k (each) grant for over 70 constituents are aside other lesser packages and programmes that either provided direct funds to constituents or exposed them to indirect fundings from other sources, all for the aim of boosting economic prosperity and self-dependence within the constituency.

Under what he titles "Welfare Programmes", Ukpong-udo had, upon assuming office, planned programmes targeted at touching every household in Ikono/Ini. At this point of seeking continuation, the concern should be whether this had gone beyond the cheapness of talking, to making conscious and sincere efforts towards actualisation.

If the efforts in human capital development has not been enough to go round, the Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme should have completed the circle. This healthcare initiative targeted at eradicating maternal and infant mortality in the constituency and with random extension to the rest of the state, has been operational towards providing incentives to encourage pregnant
women to submit to professional medical care. Consistently running since November 2019, the said initiative has seen well over 200 pregnant women in the cover areas through successful deliveries with no fatalities recorded.

Conceding to the attribution of his life and successes to the privilege of having formal education, man had also chosen to use this first shot in public service to advance literacy rate as well as personal skills development within his constituency by investing constituency funds in education and trainings. Here, the records have been equally massive, recording scholarship grants that have already produced graduates among 40 beneficiaries, as well as exigency support funds for another 40 undergraduates. Several training workshops for constituents in areas of specialty such as peace and conflict resolution, agriculture as well as a special one on information technology for science teachers, also add to the list, with an effective touch of infrastructural boost such as freshly built and renovated classroom blocks, laboratories and market stalls, among others across the constituency, to further advance the cause of making the representative aspect of democracy more meaningful.

In addition to all of these is a sound record in lawmaking, having pushed a number of bills and other pieces of legislation numbering up to 14 into the 9th Assembly record, including one for the establishment of a Human Resource Development Council. Also in record under his name are, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (Amendment) bill, Factories Act (Repeal and Enactment) bill, and very significantly, a bill seeking provision for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre in Ikono, Akwa Ibom State, among others.

Also, out of concern over the increasing rate of brain drain in the health sector, Rep Ukpong-udo moved a motion praying for efforts on the part of the federal government to arrest the situation.
This, alongside another motion that prayed for urgent attention on a case of Landslide in Odoro Ikpe and Ibam Edet communities of the constituency, are just part of the rest. The latter had yielded result almost immediately when the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) promptly responded to arrest the situation.

With all of these established facts, one would then wonder what defines competency and true public service character if these do not. And to have folks not just willing, but also agitating for the replacement of a representative who has been able to make his first term and first ever opportunity in public office this much impacting, is reason analysts of rationality and idealism will always view zoning as a distraction to the selection of credible leadership.

Like a banker friend usually opines, zoning only creates a backdoor for mediocrity to creep into a business as serious as leadership. Else, what genuine reason would one give for wanting to sacrifice a productive bird at hand for another whose productivity is not guaranteed. Matter of fact, the progenitors, in drawing these zoning arrangements should always find a space to fix the clause that based on scarcity of credible leadership in the country, the need to retain one whenever found, must supersede whatever arrangement was made for zoning.

In the Ikono/Ini case, the productivity of Ukpong-udo's leadership is not just a work of the pen or keypad for PR sake, there are living and bountiful evidences to substantiate. The streets of his constituency are full of testimonies to his impacting representation, even those in the supposed favoured zone have in their off-public gatherings, confessed to this— reason, he is the contender to beat in this contest. While the other minority unit of a camp had hurriedly gone into undue celebrations because Ukpong-udo's clearance was delayed for no genuine reason, theirs was nothing compared to the wild ecstatic jubilations that erupted in the constituency when that hurdle was finally surmounted. That was enough to separate reality from the propagandas.

Revisiting the biblical reference in the first paragraph, it is almost clear that despite attempts to paint a massively productive representation with gloomy colours, Ikono/Ini people are persistently holding on to the bright side. Like the biblical accusers, they have spent so much energy and resources in trying to make constitutents and electorates at all levels see Ukpong-udo's second term bid as "law-breaking", yet, the constituents, banking on the records on ground, have remained resolute in setting their eyes on the benefits ahead. For, try as hard as the accusers may to refuse admitting this truth, it remains that this representation has, for those it could not this time, touched their relatives or kinsmen, and it will only be a matter of time to spread this touch closer and directly to them, should he be given a mandate extension to continue with this vigour.

Politics / SEN Albert Loses Applications As Court Fixes June 22 For Briefs In N204m Fraud by Browndiary(m): 7:34pm On May 05, 2022
An application to further adjourn the defense proceedings by Senator Bassey Albert in the case of money laundering levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been thrown out.

The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, presided over by Justice A.A Okeke adjourned the case to Wednesday, 22nd June, 2022 for adoption of written addresses.

The adjournment came after the Counsel to Senator Albert applied for an adjournment on the basis that the lead Counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, was away on health grounds.

In a ruling Justice Okeke overruled the application and ordered other members of the Defense team including a renowned human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN to proceed with the Defense in the absence of the Lead Counsel.

The Court frowned at the incessant adjournments of the matter which prosecution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC had closed its case two years ago.

When the Defense could not proceed, the Court foreclosed the Defense and adjourned for adoption of final written addresses.

In May 2017, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission detained Senator Akpan over cars that Akpan had allegedly received as a bribe from Jide Omokore years before hand while Akpan was Akwa Ibom Finance Commissioner and Chairman of the State Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee.

Reports showed that the Omokore's companies – Bay Atlantic Energy and Sahel Energy – received contracts from the Direct Labour Coordinating Committee and the EFCC claimed the vehicles were used to bribe Akpan.

In August 2018, the EFCC filed charges against Akpan and Omokore in the High Court of Lagos State for corruption and bribery. The case was later tossed out by Justice O.A. Taiwo due to jurisdictional issues based on the defense's argument that the case should have been brought in Akwa Ibom not Lagos State.

Politics / Mkpat Enin PDP Stakeholders Unite Ahead Of 2023 Polls by Browndiary(m): 3:41pm On Apr 22, 2022
Aniedi UKOENANG

As the 2023 general election draws near, political stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area have pledged to prioritize the interest of the area and also support the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

These were the outcome of a meeting hosted by Professor Eno Ibanga, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service  yesterday, and attended by key stakeholders of PDP in Mkpat Enin.

In his opening remarks, Professor Eno Ibanga charged Mkpat Enin people to approach the coming polls with unity of purpose, warning that it is the whole Local Government that will suffer if the delegates chose to place individual interest above the future of Mkpat Enin.

Speaking further, the works Commissioner urged the people to support Pastor Umo Eno and Dr. Ekong Sampson respectively as Governorship and Eket Senatoial District candidate.

"We have come to a period that the over all interest of Mkpat Enin must be placed above individual interest. Let us ensure that our in-law Pastor Umo Eno wins the Governorship election and Barr Ekong Sampson should be Supported as our own Senatoial District aspirant for the sake of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area".

The participants applauded Professor Eno Ibanga for showing leadership and interfacing frequently with the stakeholders since the beginning of politicking ahead of the 2023 elections. They pledged to withdraw their support from other Senatoial aspirants to Ekong Sampson for the sake of protecting the political future and integrity of Mkpat Enin as a Local Government.

Specifically, Engr Meyen Etukudo said "I know that many of us had pitched our supports somewhere else, some of us may even have some personal grieviances, but we have now met as a people, we need to look beyond ourselves".

The stakeholders also urged the Senatoial District aspirant, Rt. Hon. Ekong Sampson to make Mkpat Enin people proud in the aspects of attracting development to the area and contributing to quality legislation when he gets to the Senate.

In his response, Dr. Sampson thanked the stakeholders for adopting him, adding that it was important that the area unite and approach the coming elections with the force of unity. He pledged to be a senator for all and promised that his emergence will chart a new course for the people of Eket Senatoial District.

The meeting ended peacefully as attendees exchanged pleasantries in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Politics / ESD-2023: As PDP Upholds Zoning Matrix by Browndiary(m): 9:11am On Apr 22, 2022
By Theophilus Akpan

In a democracy, sharing of commonwealth and political power across lengths and breadths of the society takes foremost prominence and eminence. This is so, because democracy is a people-oriented government.

Supporting the arguments above, a lawyer, books author, journalist and leading aspirant for Eket Senatorial District (ESD) race, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson, while responding to questions by journalists upon his return from Abuja to purchase expression of interest / nomination forms, opined that the "beauty of democracy is amplified when the people are behind you. Zoning is central to our democratic experiment".

A few days ago, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, proved itself as a party christened after democracy. In its State Executive Meeting, the party, among other things, resolved thus;

"2023 SENATORIAL DISTRICT ELECTIONS
After a thorough process of distilling a consensus from the dominant positions canvassed by Elders, Stakeholders and members of our Party during the Federal
Constituency Tour, Exco resolved that the Senatorial Seats for the three (3)
Senatorial Districts in the State have been zoned as follows:

EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT - Zoned to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency

UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT - Zoned to Uyo Federal Constituency

IKOT EKPENE SENATORIAL DISTRICT - Zoned to Abak Federal Constituency."

The party also affirmed the zoning of Governorship Seat to Uyo Senatorial District. According to the party, these arrangements were necessary to further strengthen the party, give a sense of inclusion to all the senatorial districts and deepen the taproot of PDP in the state.

Remember, Barr. Ekong Sampson, during an interactive session on Inspiration FM recently argued thus;

"Eket Senatorial District needs zoning, perhaps, more than any other senatorial district in Akwa Ibom State, because of our diversity, complexity, and plurality. Eket Senatorial District needs to implement zoning, because zoning is that key matrix of democracy that guarantees access to political power and opportunity".

Moreso, the stakeholders of Eket Senatorial District had, in January, zoned the Senate Seat in the area to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency (IFC), and within Ikot Federal Constituency, there is a strong tide of opinion that the Senate Seat goes to Mkpat Enin, Reps goes to Ikot Abasi, while Eastern Obolo takes House of Assembly Seat. This arrangement is necessary for peaceful coexistence amongst the local government areas in the region.

The Senate Seat is zoned Mkpat Enin, because the relay of the Senate race in the senatorial district began in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, when, in 1999, the area offered her illustrious son, Sir Udoma Udo Udoma to serve the senatorial district in the Nation's Red Chamber. Since then, the batten has just been returned, after touring Eket and Oron Federal Constituencies, to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. And in the federal constituency, since Ikot Abasi Local Government Area is a firstborn, Mkpat Enin is a second born, followed by Eastern Obolo.

Embracing the zoning plank, ahead of the forthcoming party's primaries, aspirants from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, who are peace loving and have respect for the party and stakeholders have adopted the status quo. For instance, in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, we only have aspirants who are vying for House of Representatives. In Eastern Obolo, about eight aspirants have already indicated interest in the State House of Assembly. And in Mkpat Enin, two aspirants are in the Senate contest.

These zoning arrangements will go a long way to strengthen the bond and peace in the region. This is in agreement with the opinion of the former two-term State Assembly Lawmaker, Barr. Sampson, who opined that zoning is an answer to peace in a democratic society.

Politics / We Must Produce A Governor That Builds On Gov. Emmanuel's Legacies - A'ibom Pdp by Browndiary(m): 8:32pm On Apr 21, 2022
... As Akan Okon Seeks Party Support for Guber Ambition

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, has stated that the next governor of the state must be one that will build on the towering legacies of Governor Udom Emmanuel and ensure sustainability in the development blueprint of Akwa Ibom State, while providing solutions to the common problems of the people.

Speaking through the State Chairman of the party, Rt Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, Thursday April 21, the party alluded that PDP produced administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel has performed outstandingly well and will be leaving a legacy of excellence which must be built upon by his successor.

Akpan who welcomed a gubernatorial hopeful of the party and immediate past Commissioner for Economic Development & Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, acknowledged the quality of aspirants in the party, noting that the party is keen on continuity in governance which he said must be ensured by the next governor.

"PDP as a party believes in continuity and we stand for that. Since 1999, we have produced successive administrations and one thing is certain, that there is element of continuity in development."

"Anybody that emerges the gubernatorial candidate of PDP will definitely become the governor, there isn't doubt about that, but there must be continuity", the chairman said.

The former Commissioner and governorship aspirant, Mr Akan Okon, who presented himself to the State Executive Committee of the party and sought support, appreciated the party leadership for opening its doors to welcome him, promising to ensure continuity from Gov Emmanuel's feats and taking the state to an enviable height.

In his words, "I thank the party for giving me the opportunity to serve the state. I had the chance to serve because of PDP."

"If my party gives me the opportunity to serve as governor of Akwa Ibom State, I will ensure that every action is geared towards providing employment for Akwa Ibomites. I will create what I call the Akwa Ibom State Economic Development office."

Politics / Umo Eno: The Password For Sustainable Prosperity by Browndiary(m): 6:49pm On Apr 21, 2022
By Saviour Nathaniel

From the remarkable groundnut pyramids of the Northern states in the 60s to Fintech Development of the 21st Century, the Nigerian people have shown they  are the nation's greatest resource.

Human Capital Development refers to acquisition of commercially viable skills, expertise, education and knowledge by a nation's work force - all of which contribute in no mean measure to her Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

There is a strong correlation between human capital development and economic growth. When people bring together their diverse skills, it leads to increase innovation, productivity, balance of trade, industrialisation,  high level of literacy and life expectancy.

The benefits of human capital development are best achieved through provision of quality education whether formal or informal, health services, empowerment/employment,  infrastructure development and good governance. The last factor births policies that align with both the plight of the masses and the hope of the people generally.

When human capital development is downplayed or subordinated, the resultant consequences are; hunger, poverty, disease, brain drain, political instability and other ills which hamper social development.

Akwa Ibom State which is fastly and increasingly becoming Nigeria's most important economic nerve center after Lagos and River State, requires more than ever, a chief-driver with entrepreneurial zest and industrial verve. Pastor Umo Eno is a practical example of one who has been blessed with both. His records provide the proof. To realize its full potentials, the state needs a leadership mindset that can unlock the pathway to its fortunes.

Pastor Eno is a name the people can trust for this task and several others which will in turn, propel human capital development as he plans to create the enabling environment for the thriving of a "Free Enterprise Economy," where business ideas pitched by SMEs will be supported with grants and loans.

Pastor Umo Eno recognizes education as one of the major factors of development; hence he has resolved to give maximum attention to the sector.

As a private business concern, it is instructive that the Royalty Group has awarded scholarship worth over 20million naira to students of various categories.

Being an employer of labour, he understands the importance of prioritizing welfare of workers and this reflects in the conducive work environment at Royalty Group. This should excite Akwa Ibom workers.

The argument that he is not experienced in the art of public governance is invalid. There is former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State who went straight into governance from the private sector and excelled brilliantly. The records are there, as there are many other examples.

An Umo Eno administration will satisfy our collective yearnings for a society that values the innovations and entrepreneurship of her people and leaving behind stronger building blocks for the next generation to complete the hope for transformation.

To our distunguished delegates, do not vote sentiments, don’t vote showmanship, vote humility, vote capacity, passion and stability.

Politics / Udobong Ekpo Meets Ekong Sampson, Backs Senate Bid by Browndiary(m): 1:37pm On Apr 20, 2022
..Ex-UUTH CMD, Etete Peters states why Mkpat Enin is backing Ekong Sampson

By Samuel Udoma

A former Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Udobong Ekpo earlier today met with the frontline aspirant for Eket Senatorial District Senate race, Rt Hon.(Barr.) Ekong Sampson. Expectedly, the duo discussed the Senate race in Eket Senatorial District, which by popular opinion favours Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. Dr Ekong Sampson and Hon. Udobong Ekpo have maintained warm relationship over the years. Sampson took over from Ekpo in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2007.

At the parley, Hon. Udobong Ekpo expressed satisfaction with the support that Barr. Sampson is receiving in Mkpat Enin and indeed, the entire Eket Senatorial District for the Senate race. He assured Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin of his support.

Meanwhile, a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Etete Peters has said that Barr. Sampson is a broadminded and mature politician, who will take high intellectual content to the Senate Chambers. Prof. Peters is a core supporter of Ekong Sampson for the Senate race. He led some of the Campaigns when Sampson went around the Senatorial District consulting.

Reviewing the journey so far, Prof. Peters thanked Mkpat Enin people and supporters in Eket Senatorial District for the strong support base given to Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin.
He said that Mkpat Enin love and trust Barr. Ekong Sampson because of his accessibility, high intellect and commitment to community service. Prof. Etete said that Mkpat Enin clearly deserves the Senate seat by rotation and that Ekong Sampson is a natural choice because of his vast legislative experience and well known intellectual capacity.

Meanwhile, Barr. Ekong Sampson is continuing with his consultations and interactions ahead of the PDP Senate primaries next month.

Education / Maltina Nat'l School Games: Ibeno Lg Chairman Receives Victorious Athletes by Browndiary(m): 7:31pm On Apr 19, 2022
Another milestone has been recorded in the Dakkada philosophy of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the area of sports development with the victory of seven members of the State contingent to the Maltina national school games in Abuja.

Subsequently, the seven students from Akwa Ibom State have also qualified to represent Nigeria in the world finals in School Games in China later this year.

Receiving the victorious team, the Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, High Chief Williams Mkpah, commended them for representing the state excellently at the games.

He commended Governor Emmanuel for the introduction of schools sports festivals in the state, saying it has spurred young people to brace sports.

The students are of Secondary Grammar School, Upenekang, Ibeno and brought home six gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal in track and field events.

Chief Mkpah noted that Ibeno local government has continually produced sporting champions and encouraged them to work hard to develop their talents.

He also stated that the local government had many untapped talents and urged the state government to build sports facilities in the locality to encourage the youth to participate in sporting activities.

Phones / Abridge Profile Of Ekanem Brown: A Young Entrepreneur, educationist, ICT Expert. by Browndiary(m): 9:28am On Apr 19, 2022
According to Suzy Kassem: "To know the good from the bad, study a man or woman's history of actions, not their record of intentions.”

Born on 11th September, 1977, this handsome looking serial entrepreneur started his academic career at Army Transferred Primary School, Jos, Plateau State. Upon the completion of his primary education, he returned home and proceeded to Community Secondary School, Mkpat Enin.

Mr Brown is a public spirited individual whose love for his people cannot be questioned. For a man of his age to invest in key sectors of the economy and employing one hundred and twenty persons shows how focused and visionary he is. He has indeed added value to the national and state economic and craves for an opportunity to use his Midas touch to turn Mkpat Enin into a strong and commercially viable Local Government Area. Listening to the story of how he built his business from the scratch into a successful and growing conglomerate, easily convinces the worst of pessimists that he indeed can turn things around if given an opportunity by Mkpat Enin people.

Being a forward looking young man, he sought for and obtained admission to study Physics Electronics at the University of Calabar, Cross River State. After obtaining his first Degree, he went ahead to obtain a Post Graduate Degree in Management (PGDM) from Benue State University. In addition to these, he attended the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Science and Technology which culminated in his induction as Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Science and Technology (ANIST).

Mr Ekanem Brown sleeps and wakes up as an Entrepreneur. In fact, he has been an Entrepreneur all through his life. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the following Companies: MIDI Nigeria Ltd, Calabar – He started this ICT Company with a few friends of his. The company is into ICT, sales and services. He sits on its Board as Director; YOU-NIK Nigeria Ltd – Alongside his wife, he founded this software development and ICT Education Company. YOU-NIK Academy Nursery and Primary School is the Co-educational arm of YOU-NIK Nigeria Ltd with branches Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa and Abuja.

His Companies have a combined staff strength of over 120, some of whom are indigenes of Akwa Ibom State.

In the face of leadership flaws, too many people assume cynical perspectives, rather than do the hard work of building relationships in which they can have more positive Impact - Ekanem Brown having served the Good People of Mkpat Enin LGA, hereby presents himself again to serve but this time in a greater capacity, as we all know, the result for a good job is more job and Ekanem Brown's record attests to the fact that he has what it takes to get the job done.

Politics / Primate Ayodele And His Ghana-must-go Opinion by Browndiary(m): 7:44pm On Apr 17, 2022
Richard Peters

As 2023 general elections are approaching, marauders masquerading as prophets are set to ply their trades using God's name.

Politicians are also falling victims to the marauders whose ' prophecies' are mere opinions read from the social and print media or better still heard being discussed at beer palours.

The scriptures told us that prophecies at no time ( in the biblical period) was brought about man's will but men spoke from God as if they were borne along by the Holy spirit.

The recent paid opinion of Primate Ayodele of INRI Church on the 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom is another figment of his imagination camouflaged in the guise of prophecy.

The said prophecy uttered after some embittered politicians from Akwa Ibom had visited him with bags of Ghana-Must-Go were said to have been said under the influence of money rather than holy spirit.

Whereas biblical prophecies'were pronounced with equal and divine precision and exactitude, Ayodele's pronouncements when hold in comparison lacks every modicum of divine or inspired utterances.

Methinks it is pertinent to ask why Ayodele do not prophesy afore-time about the when and where killer herdsmen would attack a Benue Community and warn the farmers not to go into farms.

Nigerians have come under deathly attacks by Bandits but Ayodele has never prophesied of the solution to the insecurity problem.

Are these not enough scenario for God to have mercy on Nigerians, a deeply religious country and cause the Primate to prophesy a solution to end banditry and kidnapping.

While claiming that it would be difficult for Pastor Umo Eno to win the Governorship Election, the primate failed in his phanthom pronouncements to tell his audience another aspirant he wants the governor to support.

He also failed to mention in specific Senator Godswill Akpabio's supported candidate that would be a clog in the wheel of Umo Eno's gubernatorial ambition.

Well, this may not be the first time the cleric will utter fake political statement. Last year, while prophesying on Anambra election, he stated that Anambrarians do not want APGA and APC but PDP. At the election, Anambra people voted massively for APGA.
Should the people be worried about the fake pronouncements of the marauders?

One thing is sure, Akwa Ibom people have come to terms with peace and will queue behind a man that will sustain the peace, create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and sustain the viability of our State economy, these are the major concerns of the people and not the fake prophecies sponsored from the alter of war.

Politics / Zoning Of ESD Seat To Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency: A Model In Democracy by Browndiary(m): 3:55pm On Apr 17, 2022
The Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization wishes to express its profound gratitude to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), in the State ably led by our Leader, His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel, the State Party Chairman, Rt Hon. Aniekan Akpan and his Officers, Stakeholders and Elders of the Party and indeed, all Party faithful for the heartwarming stance and well applauded decision on zoning of the 2023 Eket Senate Seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency.

Eket Senatorial District specially upholds a smooth, time tested rotational zoning and it has been the overwhelming wish of the people of Akwa Ibom South that the power sharing formula be upheld to further deepen the internal democracy in our party and ensure access to opportunity for a diverse senatorial district as ours. As such, with the Party's direction on zoning across the entire State, the PDP has once again shown that it is truly a people friendly Party.

The official zoning of the Senate seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency has amply reinforced the position held by many that our principal, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson, Ph.D is eminently qualified for the Senate seat.
Within Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency itself, there is unassailable power sharing arrangement in which Mkpat Enin, where Dr Ekong Sampson comes from, takes the Senate seat; Ikot Abasi gets House of Reps, while House of Assembly returns to Eastern Obolo. Indeed, zoning, experience and capacity all count heavily in favour of Dr Ekong Sampson for the Senate seat.

The zoning of the Senate seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency will further sustain the peace in Eket Senatorial District, ensure the confidence of the people and further carry the interest of the diverse mix of the region. We appreciate the elders of Eket Senatorial District for towing the path of equity and justice by zoning the Senate 2023 seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. Kudos.

We therefore, once again appreciate our Leader, His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel for providing the enabling atmosphere for democracy and our party, PDP to thrive in Akwa Ibom State.

PDP - Power to the People!

Happy Easter Celebration.

Signed:

Sir Michael Essang,
Former PDP State Deputy Chairman/ Director-General, Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization.

Politics / ESD Senate Race: A Mission and a Standard Bearer In Dr. Ekong Sampson by Browndiary(m): 10:33am On Apr 16, 2022
By Michael Essang

Recently, a frontline aspirant for Eket Senatorial District, Rt Hon.(Barr.) Ekong Sampson rounded off his consultations with the Statutory Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Eket Senatorial District. Dr Ekong Sampson's consultations, which began in Mkpat Enin where he comes from, ended in a sort of carnival in Oron last Tuesday.

The consultations so far have revealed the substance that makes Dr. Ekong Sampson, in the words of virtually every PDP stakeholder in Akwa Ibom South, very qualified for the Senate seat. Leaders of Eket Senatorial District, consistent with the time tested rotation tradition in the Senatorial District, have zoned the Senate seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. In Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency itself, there is a credible and unassailable power sharing arrangement in which the Senate seat goes to Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi takes House of Reps, while the State Assembly seat returns to Eastern Obolo.

Dr Ekong Sampson comes from Mkpat Enin, where he commands huge political following, because of his exemplary bridge building lifestyle, grassroots connections and massive support for the PDP. Indeed, it was Barr. Sampson, when he was in the State House of Assembly, who initiated the idea, bought land and spearheaded the construction of the PDP Secretariat in Mkpat Enin. The PDP Secretariat in Mkpat Enin, built and wholly owned by the PDP in the area, is one of the very few owned by any Local Government Chapter in Nigeria. Party members also spoke glowingly of Barr. Sampson's generosity, accessibility and facilitation of job opportunities for party faithful in both the private and public sectors.

To demonstrate his profound interest in education, Barr. Ekong Sampson established and made tuition free for students, through his vision and benevolence, Excellence College in Mkpat Enin. The school is now one of the best rated schools in the area - coming with a library, lab, computers, electricity, water and other facilities donated by the founder, Barr. Ekong Sampson, and scoring record 100% success in WAEC exams. A lot have benefitted from his consistent, usually quiet philanthropy through the Ekong Sampson Empowerment Program,(ESEP) over the years. These include vehicles and even houses.

Throughout his tenures as Local Government Chairman, Barr. Ekong Sampson lived among his people in Mkpat Enin. He, therefore, led by example. In the State House of Assembly, his colleagues nicknamed him 'The Compendium' because of his brilliance and depth of knowledge. His colleagues attest of him as one of the most active and among the best in legislative work rate and output at the time.

In his earlier years, Barr. Sampson did his legal practice in Benin and Lagos, before he moved over to the Senate to serve as Chief Legislative Assistant to the famous Senator Udoma Udo Udoma in the National Assembly.
From the Senate, he served twice as Chairman of Council in Mkpat Enin; Member, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for eight years and later as Honourable Commissioner in the State Exco in a number of Ministries, his last posting being Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources.

While in the State Exco, Dr Ekong Sampson also served at some point as Political Adviser to Gov. Udom Emmanuel, in a service period rated as one of the brightest and most creative in the history of the State Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs.

Dr Sampson holds a Masters Degree in Law from the University of Lagos and a Doctorate Degree in Law from the University of Calabar. A trained journalist, writer, publisher, he is a pillar of many intellectual bodies, always prepared to help out in matters of humanity.

Apart from his background as a lawyer, Dr Ekong Sampson's former portfolio as Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources makes him very familiar with how to manage the complexities of oil politics, which is a crucial issue in our oil rich Eket Senatorial District. One can then understand why the Chairman of Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Nduese Essien described Barr. Ekong Sampson as a 'highly marketable Senate material’, an opinion strongly shared by our distinguished leaders like Her Excellency, Senator Helen Esuene, His Excellency,(Ambassador) Etim Okpoyo, Sir Obot Etukafia, retired AIG Asuquo Amba and indeed, virtually every PDP Chieftain who has met Dr Ekong Sampson or studied his profile and antecedents.

Eket Senatorial District, with its diverse mix, needs a Senator in the mould of Dr Ekong Sampson, who understands our pluralities and has adopted a bridge building plank to unite the Senatorial District and encourage access to opportunity. He is a known team player, highly detribalized. However, despite his achievements, Ekong Sampson has remained simple, accessible and trustworthy.

A broad outlay of friends - those who have known or heard about Dr Ekong Sampson - have come together to support his run for the Senate. Eket Senatorial District people are free to join this unique movement and change the narrative in voluntary political participation.
The Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization thanks the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, ably led by our leader, Gov. Udom Emmanuel for the enabling environment that has made democracy and the PDP to thrive in Akwa Ibom State.

Our Campaign Organization sincerely thanks our Akwa Ibom South stakeholders and chieftains. We thank our Senatorial District party officers, Chapter Chairmen and Ward Officers, delegates and party faithful including PDP political office holders; past and present party officers, our youths, women and elders for their support and show of love for Dr Ekong Sampson during our consultations.

Three key indices - zoning, experience and capacity all favour Dr. Ekong Sampson for Senate. Respected for the strength of his ideas, Sampson’s campaigns have been focused, issue-driven and mature, far removed from hysteria and sensationalism. This is clear evidence that he knows where he is going. Eket Senatorial District has always set high standards in our senate representation - from Senator Victor Akan, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma to our incumbent, Senator Akon Eyakenyi. Dr. Ekong Sampson has all it takes too, to excel among a sterling galaxy in the Senate and make Akwa Ibom South proud.

Let's support Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin.

Politics / SENATE 2023: Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization Unveils Agenda by Browndiary(m): 9:04pm On Apr 12, 2022
...thanks Gov Udom, Akwa Ibom South Stakeholders, PDP, Statutory Delegates

By Samuel Udoma

In the aftermath of a successful consultation to all PDP Chapters and Statutory Delegates in Eket Senatorial District, the Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization has spotlighted its agenda for the people of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District. Barr. Ekong Sampson, a two term former Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has emerged as the leading aspirant and overwhelming favourite to clinch the PDP ticket for the Eket Senate seat.

The Campaign Organization has thanked Gov Udom Emmanuel for providing the enabling environment for the PDP to thrive in Akwa Ibom State. The organization has also appreciated Eket Senatorial District Stakeholders, PDP Chapter Officers and Statutory Delegates, Elders, Women and youths of the area for the warm reception accorded the campaign train when it berthed at the different Local Government Areas for the just concluded consultations.

In a Release made available to the public and signed by the Director-General of the Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization, Sir Michael Essang, the group said the consultation tours really revealed the substance that makes Ekong Sampson tick and well loved across a broad strata of the Senatorial District. Sir Michael Essang is a former Deputy State Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State. His Campaign train for Barr. Ekong Sampson comprises well known, experienced politicians. Essang is from Mbo.

The Statement in parts, identified Barr. Sampson's bridge building disposition, unwavering support and empowerment of the PDP and life touching projects and interventions as all counting in his favour - all of which have formed the major plank of his campaign agenda.

The Statement also identified Barr. Sampson's background as a trained lawyer and immediate past Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources in the State as aspects which have made him very familiar with how to manage the complexities of oil politics, which has been identified as 'a crucial issue' in the oil rich senatorial district.

Equally, Barr. Sampson's bridge building philosophy, the statement stresses, is an attractive point to help unite the divergent interests of the senatorial district. According to Sir Essang, Barr. Sampson understands 'our pluralities and has adopted a bridge building plank to unite the senatorial district and encourage access to opportunity'. The PDP bigwig said Dr Sampson as 'a known team player, highly detribalized', who despite his achievements, has remained simple, accessible and trustworthy.

The Campaign DG said Barr. Sampson's excellent attributes and well defined agenda formed part of the reasons why the Leader of Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum, Rt Hon.(Chief) Nduese Essien described Sampson as 'a highly marketable Senate material', an opinion strongly shared by other leaders like HE, Senator Helen Esuene, HE(Amb.) Etim Okpoyo, Sir Obot Etukafia, Rtd AIG Asuquo Amba, among others.

Sir Essang eulogized Gov Udom Emmanuel for his excellent leadership of the PDP which has made the party to thrive in the state. He also praised elders of the senatorial district for their wisdom and respect for zoning arrangement.

The message of appreciation read in parts:

"Leaders of Eket Senatorial District, consistent with our revered rotation, have zoned the Senate seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. In Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency itself, there is a credible and unassailable power sharing arrangement in which the Senate seat goes to Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi takes House of Reps, while the State Assembly seat returns to Eastern Obolo", he said.

The Statement further paid tribute to Dr Sampson's numerous life touching interventions, most especially, as witnessed in his native Mkpat Enin:

'Dr Ekong Sampson comes from Mkpat Enin, where he commands a huge political following, because of his exemplary bridge building lifestyle, grassroots connections and massive support for the PDP. Indeed, in Mkpat Enin, our Campaign Organization saw a beautiful edifice - The PDP Secretariat, built and wholly owned by the PDP in the Local Government Area, one of the very few anywhere in Nigeria. It was heartwarming to be told that Barr. Ekong Sampson, when he was in the State House of Assembly, initiated the idea, bought land and spearheaded the construction of the PDP Secretariat in Mkpat Enin. Party members also spoke glowingly of Barr. Sampson's generosity, accessibility and facilitation of job opportunities for party faithfuls in both the private and public sectors.

"We saw a great Secondary School which Barr. Ekong Sampson established and made tuition free for students through his vision and benevolence. Excellence College in Mkpat Enin is now one of the best rated schools in the area - coming with a library, lab, computers, electricity, water and other facilities donated by the founder, Barr. Ekong Sampson, and recording 100% success in WAEC exams. A lot have benefitted from his consistent, usually quiet philanthropy through the Ekong Sampson Empowerment Program,(ESEP) over the years. These include vehicles and even houses', the message recounted.

Sir Essang, on behalf of the Campaign Organization said, Barr Ekong Sampson possessed high intellectual prowess and experience in Legislative Affairs which stand him out.

'Our Principal's intellectual prowess is unsurprising. In his earlier years, Barr. Sampson did his legal practice in Benin and Lagos, before he moved over to the Senate to serve as Chief Legislative Assistant to the famous Senator Udoma Udo Udoma in the National Assembly.

From the Senate, he served twice as Chairman of Council in Mkpat Enin; Member, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for eight years and later as Honourable Commissioner in the State Exco in a number of Ministries, his last posting being Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources'.

'While in the State Exco, Dr Sampson also served at some point as Political Adviser to Gov. Udom Emmanuel, in a service period rated as one of the brightest and most creative in the State Bureau of Political Affairs.

Dr Sampson holds a Masters Degree in Law from the University of Lagos and a Doctorate Degree in Law from the University of Calabar. A trained journalist, writer, publisher, he is a pillar of many intellectual bodies.

The PDP National Assembly Primaries holds next month and Dr Sampson has been widely tipped to clinch the Akwa Ibom South ticket.

Politics / 2023: Human Rights Radio Purchase Presidential Nomination Form For Gov. Udom by Browndiary(m): 7:48pm On Apr 07, 2022
…SAYS NIGERIA NEEDS SINCERE LEADERS WITH CAPACITY AND EXPERIENCE

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has been presented with the Presidential Nomination forms of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by the Human Rights Radio, producers of the popular national radio/TV programme, Brekete Family Show.

The brief presentation took place at the Government House, Uyo when the delegation from the Media organization visited the Governor.

The Governor thanked the founder of the organization, Ordinary President, Ahmed Isah and his team as well as all Nigerians who contributed towards the purchase of the form.

“Honestly when I heard this plan to buy me a Presidential nomination form was going on, I asked myself, how can they raise up to N40million to go and buy me a form?”

“But today it has become a reality. There are over 200million Nigerians, but you choose to accord me this honour and privilege, and I don’t take this for granted. I really want to appreciate this family, I register my appreciation to all Nigerians, for this confidence.”

I want to assure Nigerians who have this faith and trust in our capacity.
Governor Emmanuel explained that whatever he has achieved in the State presently had been with the support of his people, and expressed that whatever success can be attained in Nigeria can be achieved collectively.

He said Nigeria presently needs leaders with capacity, sincerity of purpose, selflessness and readiness to make sacrifices.

“Money is a principal thing. Nigeria today needs someone who understands money. It is unfortunate that if we are looking for an MD of a particular company, the CV we seek, spans 3-4 pages, but when we are looking for a President of the country, based on the constitution, all we need is WAEC, no experience.

He lamented that premium is not paid to the leader in whose hands lie the destiny of over 200 million people, as it is done for a managing director of a company that had only few shareholders and stakeholders.
He urged that certain things needed to be corrected in 2023, so that the country can move forward.

He reminded them of the importance of God in the business of leadership, and expressed the hope that the group had sought the consent of God before embarking on the venture.

Be rest assured that I have accepted the form. All Nigerians cannot come together to give me something and I refuse, adding that anyone with the experience of running a state in Nigeria for eight years can pilot the affairs of the country.

Speaking at the presentation, the leader of the delegation, Mr Innocent Orji said although Governor Emmanuel was not the only one hosted on their programme, but that after they came to Akwa Ibom and discovered more than what they had heard from the Governor on their interview programme.

“We all agreed that if you can do these in a State, if given that opportunity, you will do even better in the national level.”

Orji, also known as Scaffold, said, “We don’t believe in too much talk, so here today we are presenting to you the nomination form for presidential candidate of your party.”

Also speaking, a member of the delegation and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Buhari Bala said the Brekete Family crew who had interviewed the Governor in a live studio programme in January, came to Akwa Ibom for three days, only to witness even more projects than the Governor had disclosed to them.

“After that programme, the Brekete Family sent in a delegation to Akwa Ibom State. They spent about three days here and sent in a report, and what in that report, they said what they found on ground was more than what you told them during the live programme.”

For that reason, a decision was taken by the family, that when the time comes, they will contribute money and purchase a form for you to contest the President of Nigeria. And true to their words, when the PDP started selling forms, they went there and surprisingly paid and collected the forms.

Politics / 2023: Zone Presidential Seat To South-south, Youths Tell Political Parties by Browndiary(m): 5:28pm On Apr 06, 2022
Ahead of the of the 2023 Presidential election, Nigeria Delta Youths under the aegies of the 'Niger Delta Youth Congress' NDYC have called on Political parties in Nigeria to zone the Presidential seat to the 'core South/South' part of the country in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.

The youths made their position known at a press briefing held at the D.S.C. Conference Hall in Warri, Delta State.

The NDYC hinted that youths of the region have resolved not to support any presidential aspirant or candidate who is not from the core South/South part of the country in the forthcoming Presidential poll.

In a statement endorsed by the National Coordinator of NDYC, Snr. Comrade Israel Uwejeyan and the National Secretary, Snr. Comrade Bakpa Orehime, the youths stated emphatically that having watched keenly, those aspiring from various political parties to lead the country in 2023, the youths have come to the conclusion that these crop of politicians are not really the persons Nigerans want, including the. Niger-Dela Youths.

"Already, as you know there are a lot of people in various Political parties gunning to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and they are moving across the country to garner support for their ambition to be actualized. We have keenly watched them and their activities, but have clearly seen that they are not really the persons Nigerans want including we in NDYC"

"We want to state unequivocally that the Presidential candidate slot is to be zoned to South/South region of Southern Nigeria. We should not forget that this part of Nigeria, which is the core South-South have brought about stability, prosperity and progress since 1960 Nigeria got her independence till date"

"The core South-South have been in strong alliance with the Northern part of Nigeria as a people right from the second republic. The South-South played a vital role for the late President Shehu Aliyu Shagari of blessed memory to win the keenly contested Presidential election of 1979, and this same core South/South people massively voted for his reelection in 1983 for a second term as Nigeria's President".

Continuing, the group lamented that the core South-South is yet to complete 'its' second tenure' 2015 . The group is of the believe that since the South-South zone was deprived the opportunity of going for a second term in office, 2023 is the right time to allow the zone the opportunity to produce the next President.

Politics / 2023: We‘re Paid Heavily To Run Down UDOM'S Administration- Ex Media Hireling by Browndiary(m): 9:13am On Apr 05, 2022
A popular Uyo based online influencer who has been critical of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration has openly disclosed that he has opted out from further baseless attack on the government because his conscience is weighing him down.

The social media influencer (names withheld) who is also churning out daily invectives and diatribes against the person of Pastor Umo Eno the preferred governorship Aspirant of the Governor also promised to formally apologise to him over his several cooked up allegations against him.

The remorseful young man said he was lured into the act by agents of a notable governorship aspirant currently in the National Assembly who pays heavily for his services monthly.

He highlighted that outside the agreed pay package, he was entitled to other stipends for data, fuel and lunch to encourage him to put on social media while the Boss through his immediate aides gives them areas to attack and blackmail the governor and his preferred aspirant pastor Umo Eno in the social media.

According to him, “ I was drafted by the aides of one of the noisy governorship aspirant currently in the National Assembly to help them make Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration appear clueless before Akwa ibomites in the social media and to also throw muds on the person of Pastor Umo Eno and his governorship aspiration. I have been on the offensive cooking up stories and sometimes getting fake stories from them to publish in the social media all in a bid to unsettle their various targets”.

“We meet frequently to review our efforts and strategies on better ways to unleash our propaganda to demean them and gain more advantage and popularity while looking out to engage more vibrant youths into our cabal. Our principal has been generous and nice and has recently bought better phones and ICT gadgets to help us do our jobs better’

However, according to him, “Conscience is an open wound only the truth can heal, I knew I was on the wrong rail and my heart is always troubled. I was increasingly weighed down by my conscience and I confided in few Elders who advised me to quit the deal which I did”.

He maintained that so many others currently dinning with the devil will soon opt out as they are not really enjoying what they are doing which is circulating falsehood to cause hatred panic and ill feelings.

“To me, this is no longer politics but cold blooded murder, I have come to realiase that money is not everything and I deeply apologize to our dear governor and Pastor Umo Eno over the inconveniences our fake stories must have cost them”

He warned his ex-boss and his aides to stay off his path as he will not hesitate to raise alarm through live video on social media where he will reveal so much about their illicit dealings if his life is threatened in any way for quitting from the cabal’s deadly voyage. “This is just the tip of the iceberg” he concluded.

Politics / Freemasons In Government: Rev. Patrick Edet Should Mention Names by Browndiary(m): 8:08am On Apr 05, 2022
AKWA IBOM LAWYERS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

_Secretariat: Greenspec Chambers, No. 14 Calabar Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

We have watched the viral video extract of former Catholic Priest, now pastor of Grace Family, Uyo, Rev. Patrick Edet, where he alluded that Akwa Ibom State Government is a nest of occult, and that government officials use generosity as a bait to win souls into the occult groups, especially the Freemason. He stressed that even with a Christian Governor calling the name of God, many people have been initiated into Freemason than ever before and nobody is talking about it. It is no longer shooting of gun; it is now shooting of souls.

As a group, we are not holding brief for the Akwa Ibom State Government, as we believe that government is imbued with the capacity to defend herself, ditto for the Freemason, who as an organisation can defend its ideologies, beliefs and even seek legal redress, when necessary.

To every objective mind, it has not come as a surprise, that the pastor has joined the political fray; yes! it is the political season again and politicians are hiring to hit their perceived enemies and the only way a hireling can show that he is working for his pay is to attack the person and office of the Governor leveling unfounded or contrived and imagined allegations.

Rev. Edet in his sermon stated authoritatively that members of the Governor’s Cabinet use generosity to attract youths to Freemason; this implies that as one of the many beneficiaries of the generosity of the state Governor and his officials, he has also been wooed to join the secret society.

We wonder, when Rev. Edet realized that the government is infested with members of Freemason, when he and his church have over the last few years enjoyed the benevolence of the government, that gave them Ibom Hall for use at no cost.

Was the N50,000,000.00 (fifty million Naira that Governor Udom Emmanuel alongside his EXCO raised for his church building project still meant to attract him to join Freemason? Why didnt he reject the money and bring to the public domain the fact that government was about to woo him to join the Freemasons?

In an era, where the pulpit has been turned into a soapbox, it is important that Rev. Edet with the same authority he used in levelling the allegation, should also name and shame these government officials to set the records straight. It will amount to an act of cowardice if he only stops at making a blanket statement, without mentioning names.

As a Christian and pastor of a church, Rev. Edet needs to tell us the number of repentant Masons he won over to Christ having been in contact with them and knowing their identities in his interaction with the Freemasons government officials.

It is only when he shies away from naming the Masons in government that we would conclude that the devil is more powerful than the God he serves and therefore he should exchange the pulpit for the soapbox; shade the toga of priesthood and wear the cloak of a politician so he can actively participate in politics without needing to hide under the guise of a pastor.

DATED THIS 4th DAY OF APRIL, 2022

Politics / Senate 2023: Harvest of Endorsements as Ekong Sampson Consults Onna, Eket, Ibeno by Browndiary(m): 9:27am On Apr 03, 2022
...Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin rallies support for Gov. Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda

By Samuel Udoma & Theophilus Akpan

It was indeed a harvest of endorsements and overwhelming show of support on Friday when the frontline aspirant for Eket Senatorial District race, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson consulted the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and Statutory Delegates in Onna, Eket and Ibeno Local Government Areas.

The consultation tour which began on Wednesday at the hometown of Barr. Ekong Sampson, Mkpat Enin, before later berthing in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas, has continued to enjoy tonnes of goodwill, open arms reception and strong words of endorsements.

At Onna Local Government Area, the hometown of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, the Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin, Dr Ekong Sampson in his consultative speech said he came to formally inform the Party and Statutory Delegates in the area of his 2023 Senate ambition. Dr Sampson took out time to chronicle the time-tested bond that exists between Mkpat Enin and Onna, saying his coming to Onna was just like going to Mkpat Enin. He promised Onna people a wholesome representation in the Senate while soliciting for their support.

The former Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources listed some great men and women of Onna extraction who have contributed immensely to his success to include HE Udom Emmanuel, Late Prof I. I. Ukpong, Justice J. T. Akpabio, Sen. Eme Ufot Ekaette, among others. He pledged his avowed loyalty to the government of Udom Emmanuel and pleaded support for the Governor's Completion and Succession Agenda.

In his appreciation to the governor, Dr Sampson said that through the Governor's intervention, some villages in Mkpat Enin like Asong, Ikot Akpaden, Ikot Ekong, Ukam, among others, have become towns, adding that these interventions have helped to merge Onna with Mkpat Enin and improve the existing bond between the two sister Local Government Areas.

According to him, apart from having the requisite experience, competence and capacity to deliver quality representation, his ambition was borne out of the decision by the Elders of Eket Senatorial District, who, out of their wisdom and respect for democracy, zoned the 2023 Senate Seat to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency.

In his response, the PDP Chapter Chairman of Onna, Barr. Ubong Adiakpan praised Barr. Sampson's unrivalled antecedents and declared that he was eminently qualified for the 2023 Senate seat.

From Onna, the Ekong Sampson Campaign Train berthed in Ibeno Local Government Area. Addressing the PDP Statutory Delegates and other party faithfuls in the area at the Party Secretariat in Upenekang, Dr Sampson said he was the best footforward to represent the interest of Ibeno and indeed, the entire Senatorial District especially in regards to oil politics which is a critical issue in the district. He said that he has always maintained great friendship with Ibeno and pledge to give the area its pride of place especially in the area of oil and its attendant accruements when elected into the nation's Red Chamber. Dr Sampson again reechoed his call for the respect of zoning in the district, saying that it is only zoning that can ensure the Ibenos also have access to the major power valves.

Responding, the PDP Chapter Chairman for Ibeno, Hon. Emman Ibok welcomed Barr. Sampson and declared that from the matrix of zoning which has always been upheld in the area, Ekong Sampson was most favoured for the 2023 Senate seat. He said as a party, they were proud of Dr Sampson's track record and antecedents.

Eket Local Government Area took the final leg of yesterday's consultation and it did appear that the best was saved for the last. The PDP Secretariat along Eket-Oron road was filled to capacity. The mood was elating as the oil city received the Campaign train of Dr. Ekong Sampson.
Ekong Sampson has always enjoyed massive goodwill in Eket because of his strong ties with the area. One of his sisters is married in Eket.

Addressing the party eggheads in Eket, Barr. Sampson said as the melting point of the senatorial district, Eket will feel the impact of his representation in the Senate. He said, he has built a firm bridge with Eket people over the years and his going to the Senate will deepen the bond even more.

Responding on behalf of the party, the PDP Chapter Chairman in Eket, Obongiwaad Emman Mbong said having known Barr. Sampson over the years, he had no doubts in his capacity to deliver in the Senate. He said Dr Sampson was well favoured by zoning and a quality legislative background.

On Dr Sampson's consultations included the Director General of the Ekong Sampson Campaign Organization, Sir Michael Essang, Secretary of Campaign Organization, Rt Hon. Ufok Frank, former House of Assembly Member for Eket State Constituency, Rt Hon.( Barr.) Jack Udota, Leader of Mkpat Enin Legislative Council, Hon. Politics / Umo Eno: Answering the Call to Serve by Browndiary(m): 4:22pm On Apr 01, 2022
As the Bible rightly captures in Proverbs 22:29,
"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before mean men".

Today, Pastor Umo Eno has shown diligence in all areas of responsibilities assigned to him and in his private businesses also.

He has created employment opportunities for Akwa Ibom people as a private citizen. Becoming a Governor, Akwa Ibom State will not only experience an avalanche of employment opportunities but massive wealth creation.

In a clear analysis of Aspirants and Paraders who want to be Governor, Umo Eno has distinguished himself as one with the intellectual acumen and wherewithal to pilot the Akwa Ibom ship.

There's none of the Aspirants who can match him in the creation of employment opportunities.

Then the unanswered question is, what has been the contributions of these Aspirants to the growth of Akwa Ibom people before now?

It is not enough to seek for a political position on the strength of being rewarded because you have been around the "System" for a long time.

The Governorship seat of Akwa Ibom State will not be sacrificed on the altar of showmanship, bravado, unpolished words, and a retirement plan for those who feel they have worked hence need compensation.

We expect that these Paraders who want to govern Akwa Ibom State, should come up with the things they have done for our people.

Buying of cars, motorcycles, and distribution of items, is not enough guarantee to be rewarded with the coveted Office of Governor. The items were bought with tax payers money and not personal funds. Make no mistake about it.

Like Umo Eno has put forward his credentials, and his contributions to the state keep speaking, let others step forward and tell us their past records, if there is any of them who has done better than Umo Eno.

The mandate that Umo Eno seeks, is not about him, but for our unborn generations, that will come and proudly walk the length and breadth of our dear state, with shoulders high, and be proud that once upon a time, a man like Umo Eno had governed our dear state with sterling performances.

This is a clarion call to serve Akwa Ibom people, and Umo Eno has answered the call. We will be proud after four years, to look back and appreciate God for giving us a Governor in 2023 whose niche is to see every Akwa Ibom person smile.

Let's achieve this together as Umo Eno takes charge of the saddle with your support in 2023.

Politics / Purported Accord Between OBA and Gov Emmanuel Over 2023 Very Laughable by Browndiary(m): 6:16pm On Mar 28, 2022
- UDOM'S AIDE REPLIES EPHRAIM INYANG

The claims by the former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen of a purported existing political accord that tended to cede the governorship position of Akwa Ibom State in 2023 to Senator Bassey Albert, has been described as laughable and a fictitious.

Speaking in a radio interview programme in Uyo on Monday, a public affairs analyst, Mr Essien Ndueso said the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2015 came after the people of Akwa Ibom State had unanimously agreed that whether by zoning or rotation, the political authority of the state from 2015-2023 should reside in Eket Senatorial District.

Mr Ndueso, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation wondered how Senator Albert could have stepped down for Governor Emmanuel in a race he was never qualified to contest.

"Senator Albert was at the time the Commissioner for for Finance and was part of the State delegation led by the then Governor Godswill Akpabio that tour all the federal constituencies in Akwa Ibom State through town hall meetings.

"He witnessed a general opinions of traditional and religious clerics, the business and political classes, traders and artisans, women and youth leaders, and the consensus was that power should shift, rotate or be zoned to Eket Senatorial District in 2015."

Essien Ndueso, who at the time was a Personal Assistant to the immediate past Governor, said that it was unfortunate that despite being a ranking member of the State Executive Council who was on the entourage of Governor throughout the town hall meetings, Bassey Albert went on to defy the unanimous decision by purchasing the governorship form.

Mr Ndueso also took a swipe at the allegation of poor reward system as peddled by the former Commissioner for Works.

He said Senator Bassey Albert negotiated and got a senate ticket ahead of his kinsman Senator Ita Enang in 2015 and got returned to the Senate in 2019, still another case of reward, and wondered why a person who has been appointed a Finance Commissioner for 7 and a half years and Senator for another eight years, complain of not being adequately rewarded.

To this end, he felt disappointed that Chief Ephraim Inyang who joined the government of Akwa Ibom State for the first time in 2015, before he was sacked for incompetence few weeks ago, could come out to mislead the public on a non existent accord that had no witness except himself.

Mr Ndueso, who served under the Director of Media Mr Ekerete Udoh and the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Directorate of the Campaigns Hon. Aniekan Umanah, as the Chief Information Officer in the 2015 PDP Campaigns, said Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen obviously erred in his submissions since he had not yet returned to the state from his sojourn in Lagos during the buildup to the elections.

Politics / Quality Lawmaking, Massive Empowerment Will Characterize My Reign -Ekong Sampson by Browndiary(m): 7:25pm On Mar 27, 2022
...dedicates Nomination Form to entire Eket Senatorial District, Women

... solicits support for Gov. Udom Emmanuel's Completion, Succession Agenda

By Theophilus London

Amidst a crowd of teeming and enthusiastic supporters who came from across a large spectrum of Eket Senatorial District to herald his arrival, the leading aspirant for the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial race, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson, has reiterated that quality lawmaking and massive empowerments will characterize his reign in the Senate once he is voted in as a Senator.

Dr Ekong Sampson, a former two-term House of Assembly Member who represented Mkpat Enin State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, gave the assurance in a brief interactive session held yesterday with his supporters at CityView Hall, Watbridge Hotels&Suites, Uyo upon arrival from Abuja where he had purchased his senatorial expression of interest/nomination forms earlier in the week.

Overwhelmed by an unprecedented crowd who turned out to give him the unexpected reception, the Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin said he was well equipped with the knowledge of the workings of the Senate, adding that he was going to the Senate not to learn lawmaking, but to practice what he had learnt throughout his 'adult life'.

"I'm going to the Senate to practice what I have already learnt all through my adult life and improve on the premises that we can use the Senate to build a firm bridge in Eket Senatorial District. And of course, that forms the theme of this campaign message. I'm going there to build bridges; bridges of love, bridges of accomplishments. Eket Senatorial District is so richly endowed. All we need to do is to build a firm bridge, a super structure that would enable us to maximize our advantages", he said pointedly.

The former Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Akwa Ibom State numerated political enablers working in his favour to include zoning, experience, competency and capacity.

"We have a number of enablers working in our favour: Zoning favours me. Eket Senatorial District needs zoning more than any other senatorial district in Akwa Ibom State, because of our diversity, complexity and plurality. Eket Senatorial District needs to implement zoning, because zoning is that key matrix of democracy that guarantees access to power and opportunities.

"When you come from an area that is so diverse and pluralistic, zoning comes in as a strong enabler that guarantees access to power and opportunities. It's through zoning that Oro person, Ekid, the Ibibios, the Obolos would feel safe in Eket Senatorial District. So, even if another senatorial district can joke with zoning, we, in Eket Senatorial District, can't joke with it, because that is what will guarantee unity in our diversity and access to power. Experience, competence and the capacity to deliver dividends of democracy also favour me too," he explained.

Dr Sampson, while explaining the importance of empowerment in politics, assured his supporters to always look forward to having happiness, saying spreading happiness was his hobby.

"Empowerment is key matrix in African politics.
No matter what you do, if you can't touch people's lives, then you still have some missing links. So party members can now look forward to having happiness, because my hobby is to spread happiness", he added.

While presenting his Expression of interest/Nomination Forms to the Ekong Sampson Campaign Organisation, Barr. Sampson said buying the forms signposts his readiness for the race. He dedicated the forms to the entire Eket Senatorial District and women in particular.

He expressed appreciation for his dear wife, colleagues and friends who work in the National Assembly for reposing confidence in him, adding that they came together, contributed money to buy the forms for him.

"It may interest you to know that my dear wife and her colleagues and friends working in the National Assembly came together to buy this form for me. So, I really appreciate my wife and her colleagues and I dedicate the form to women in Eket Senatorial District. It is a tribute to women. It shows that women still have confidence in men. It also means that women will be at the forefront of this campaign we are going into. You know my wife is a senior staff at the National Assembly. She's interested that I'm coming back to the Senate from where I started my journey, so I can be closer to her'.

Sampson thanked the people of Eket Senatorial District for the confidence reposed in him, the show of supports and encouragement, saying these were parametres for measuring acceptability.

"I thank the people of Eket Senatorial District for the confidence reposed in me. The number of calls I received while I was in Abuja marveled me and my wife. It has been clearly demonstrated that you want me to go and represent you at the Senate. A whole lot of people across Eket Senatorial District called in to register their supports. This is a strong parameter to measure acceptability. The beauty of democracy is amplified when the people are behind you'.

While describing Gov. Udom Emmanuel as his boss and mentor, he charged his campaign organisation to always work in tandem with the Governor's Completion and Succession Agenda, reaffirming his commitment to supporting the government to succeed till the end.

"The campaign team, most importantly, also has to work in favour of Gov. Udom Emmanuel's completion and succession agenda, because the government must consolidate. And the governor is on firm ground to have interest in succession. Nobody builds the house and abandons it", he said in part.

Earlier in his speech, the Director General of Ekong Sampson Campaign Organisation and former Deputy Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sir Michael Essang appreciated Dr Sampson for presenting himself ready for the tasks ahead.

According to him, part of the readiness was to go and learn Law and to get himself acquainted with the business of lawmaking and legislative affairs, saying these would really help in boosting the quality of representation he would give to his constituents.

Sir Essang led the team to hand over the forms into the able hands of God for an all-round success throughout the race.

Politics / Letter To Victor Ekwere (chapter 1): While The Ovation Is Still High by Browndiary(m): 9:22am On Mar 26, 2022
Second term greetings to you, dear State House Representative. Sir, I write to thank you for ever considering us in Mkpat Enin state constituency worthy of having you as our representative. How you rode to victory and the campaigns of calumny against your lead opponent and then incumbent, Otobong Ndem notwithstanding, truth remains that you won election and became our representative.

Sir, your constituents in Mkpat Enin would recall that while you were still struggling to find your feet in legislation, Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen had, then as works commissioner, played into your trap when he insulted Mkpat Enin in a statement I personally considered very offensive. And like a drowning man in desperate need of a straw, you took that opportunity and used him to spring yourself into limelight, albeit, such a low-beaming one which barely lasted before returning you to the invisible corners of public office. That was how quick you were to return to status quo, as barely a thing was heard of or from you afterwards.

Then came your constituency briefing. Sir, if anyone rated the performance of your empowerment packages at that event, I will never join them. Truth is, whether their rating was on the low, average or high, you did something... same way I will not join the band of those asking what significant bills you've sponsored and how many of them have made it through the legislative process to becoming law. As long as you have had your name imprinted under any piece or act of legislation, whether as a co-sponsor of a bill, or as member of any committee that processed a bill/motion. That was you in legislative action on behalf of Mkpat Enin people who voted you in preference to other candidates who were interested in the seat.

Sir, just as stated above, this piece of letter was never to inquire about your near three years of stewardship as representative of Mkpat Enin in the state legislature, but to remind you that it is time...time for you to begin the valedictory rites and prepare the stage for the next man. This, however, is not because you have lost your constitutional right to join the electoral process of seeking for an extension of time, but because based on the precedent you had set and with which you rode into office, the regard you should expectedly have for your integrity should ordinarily not allow you attempt, let alone, make this move.

Sir, this piece of advice is for me, necessary, not because I am undermining your political strength and/or your chances at both the preliminary and final polls, but because near-all factors appear to be against you. First, your pact with the politically unintelligent professor to trade supports for his senate and your second term ambitions has glaringly lost its right foot, as the said professor eventually could not find the balls to step into the ring to challenge other contenders in the Eket senatorial district race. Hence, based on the principles of pacta sunt servanda, there is nothing to guarantee his commitment to the pact.

Secondly, Sir, in the present case and situation, you have no incumbent to launch internet boys after on mudslinging in the name campaign for zoning and against second term. You're now the incumbent, though fortunately for you and proudly for me, the contenders from Ukpum Minya clan who are next in the zoning line you so much campaigned on, appear too enlightened and decent to give you a taste of the same meal you served your immediate predecessor. Put simply, Sir, you are now on the opposite side of that zoning and anti second term campaign that favoured you the last time.

On a third factor, you should, as a last option, be resorting to your constitutional right, but then, this option will require you to give Mkpat Enin people visible, pointable and substantive reasons they should want to have you continue as their representative, but Sir, I am sure you would not want us to toe this path. I am very sure, especially as you've been able to establish a very funny way of proving to us how easy it is to perform what Otobong Ndem could not, according to you, your supporters and internet boys, perform. However, Sir, I have a hint, though merely a rumour for now, that you have been running around government house boys to help you scheme your way out of this quagmire, but I'll let that remain a rumour for now.

Finally, dear House Member, a saying goes that it is good to exit the stage while the ovation is high. Despite lacking the type of ovation attracted by good impression or performance, there is at least the ovation of political power and relevance; and you should act wisely while you still have people knocking at your gate. While I hope this meets you with the right understanding, kindly accept the assurances of highest regards from myself and the entire Ukpum Minya Clan, including my lovely wife, 5 kids and a pregnancy.
