Cacophonous noise is often mistaken for performance in Nigerian politics. A political officeholder will gesticulate wildly, stand on his head, take selfies at refuse dumps, and perform other unusual acts simply to be seen as active. They are adept at using words and optics to capture attention. In reality, however, this is mere make-believe; no substance, no real work.

Let me tell you a story of two politicians. One seems to be a man of MAKE-BELIEVE; the other is a man of REAL WORK.

The man of make-believe appears to be Rt. Hon. Dr. Dan Akpan, a former member of the House of Representatives. He recently took to the microphone, firing verbal missiles. His vocabulary was spicy, peppery, and full of fire. He paints a picture of poor representation in Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District.

The one under his attack—Senator Aniekan Bassey—has responded not with a press conference, not with a fiery broadcast, but with something more powerful: a compendium of achievements. A tsunami of projects and empowerment so vast, so detailed, it makes you want to stand up and shout “Hallelujah!” No exaggerations!

Let’s dive into this wonder bank of performance.

Close your eyes and imagine this: A Senator who within two years has sponsored eight bills and six motions in Abuja. Good. But then, the same Senator flies down to Akwa Ibom and becomes a doer of everything.

He installs N222 million worth of ICT Centres in eleven schools across eleven local governments. From Salvation Army Primary School, Ekom Iman to Presbyterian School, Mbiabong. He registers over 3,000 students for UTME, giving scholarships, preparing them for a computer-based world.

He trains farmers, giving them N50 million grants. Trains women on yam and cassava processing. Disburses another N50 million. Supplies N200 million worth of fertilizer to 500 farmers. Trains youths on modern oil palm farming, gives out seedlings, and backs it with a whopping N200 million grant!

We are talking about half a billion Naira in agricultural injections alone.

He is not done. He offers a N100 million grant for youth leadership training, 80 million Naira for petty traders, 50 million Naira for supernumerary training, and free digital skills training with starter kits.

He then transforms into DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF EMPLOYMENT. Securing jobs for his people in NCDC, the Nigerian Army, Police, FAAN, the Federal University of Technology, even the National Assembly itself! He sends youths on all-expense-paid capacity trips to China!

A member of my family is a beneficiary of his federal job placement.

He then puts on the medical cape, facilitating free medical outreaches with surgical operations, free glasses, and free drugs across the district. He supplies health centres with essential commodities.

He becomes SOLAR POWER MINISTER, installing solar lights across the district, building solar-powered boreholes in villages.

He builds roads too.

And oh, he donates luxury cars, tricycles, motorcycles, and motorised ploughs.

Now, back to our man of words, Dr. Akpan. He shouts “Absentee!” But how can a man be absent and yet his footprints are on every road, in every school, on every farm, in every hospital in Uyo Senatorial District? Is this the absence of a spirit? A ghost building boreholes and sharing billions?

This is where the story gets interesting. Dr. Akpan holds up a mirror to accuse Senator Bassey. But wait, let us gently turn that mirror back to Dr. Akpan. What did we see when he was in office?

They ask: “Where were your own lists? Where were your own Bills and Motions?”

Matthew Isemin, in a Facebook post, described the tirade as "an empty pot shouting at a pot overflowing with soup and assorted meat!"

Senator Aniekan Bassey has presented his evidence—a dizzying, overwhelming avalanche of it.

The people of Uyo Senatorial District are the judges. They will judge by the reality they can touch, the school their child attends, the water they drink, the money in their pocket, and the jobs they do.

For me, as a storyteller, I am captivated by the sheer scale, the ambition, the relentless energy of the Bassey phenomenon. It is one of the greatest acts of political service in recent times.

The debate is open. But the Senator, for now, is not just speaking. He is building, sharing, and flooding the zone with undeniable, concrete evidence.

Let the people decide. As for me, I have long decided.

Case closed. Senator Aniekan Bassey beyond 2025.

DAN AKPAN A FORMER LEGISLATOR THAT HAS FAILED HIS LEGISLATIVE COURSE AFTER HIS INTERVIEW

It is regrettable that the interview granted by Rt. Hon. Dr. Dan Akpan reflects not only a profound lack of political balance but also a troubling disregard for the multifaceted nature of legislative representation. While his rhetoric is impassioned, it is devoid of substantive evidence, riddled with generalizations, and ignores the broader context of governance in Nigeria. As a public analyst, I find the attack on the distinguished Senator of Uyo Senatorial District to be unfair, politically motivated, and disconnected from a holistic assessment of performance.

The Mischaracterization of “Visibility” and “Projects.”
Dr. Akpan reduces effective representation to the simplistic metric of “signature projects” and “empowerment programs.” This is a flawed and transactional view of a Senator’s role. The primary functions of a Senator are lawmaking, robust oversight of the executive, and contributing to national debate on policy. Has Dr. Akpan thoroughly examined the Senator’s legislative contributions, committee engagements, motions, and bills that benefit not just Uyo but the entire state and nation? A Senator is not a glorified local government chairman; his impact is often embedded in the quiet, diligent work of policy shaping and national advocacy, which may not translate to physical structures in every community in a single term.

The Convenient Omission of Context and Collaboration.
The interview bizarrely attempts to create a false dichotomy between the Senator and His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno. This is a disingenuous framing. Effective governance in a democratic setting requires synergy between the executive and the legislature. A Senator who works closely with a performing state governor to attract federal attention, projects, and policies to the district is exercising strategic representation. To condemn this collaboration is to advocate for a confrontational and unproductive relationship that would ultimately hurt the very constituents Dr. Akpan claims to champion. The "Arise Agenda" of the state government benefits the entire state, and a Senator aligning with its goals for the district’s development is astute, not absentee.

The Unsubstantiated Allegations on Constituency Funds.
To make sweeping allegations about the mismanagement of “billions of naira” without presenting a single verifiable fact is the height of political irresponsibility. It feeds into public cynicism without advancing accountability. If Dr. Akpan has concrete evidence of malfeasance, he has a duty to present it to the appropriate anti-corruption agencies. To broadly paint a Senator’s tenure as one of “deliberate neglect” based on emotion, rather than a forensic audit of the constituency fund utilization, is mere sensationalism.

The Undermining of Electoral Mandate and Voter Intelligence.
The most condescending aspect of Dr. Akpan’s narrative is the implicit assumption that the people of Uyo Senatorial District are passive victims who were deceived and are now helpless. This is an insult to the electorate. The Senator in question was duly elected by the people. If there is indeed the groundswell of anger and betrayal Dr. Akpan describes, it will manifest organically at the polls. Pre-empting that verdict with such vitriol suggests not a concern for the people, but a personal or factional political grievance masquerading as public advocacy.

The Question of Motive and Alternative Vision.
As a former representative himself, Dr. Akpan is not a disinterested observer. One must critically ask: Is this a genuine call for accountability, or a politically timed interview to undermine a sitting Senator and pave the way for an alternative candidacy, possibly himself? Notably, the interview offers no constructive pathway or alternative policy vision, only demolition. True statesmanship builds up; it does not only tear down.

While healthy criticism is essential for democracy, it must be based on facts, fairness, and a comprehensive understanding of a representative’s roles. Dr. Dan Akpan’s interview fails these tests. It trades in anger and anecdote over analysis and evidence. The Senator for Uyo Senatorial District deserves a fair assessment based on his full legislative portfolio and his strategic role within the broader Akwa Ibom project, not a one-sided prosecution in the court of public opinion driven by what appears to be political animus. The people of Uyo are discerning enough to evaluate their representative’s overall performance when the time comes, without needing to be incited by the hyperbolic lamentations of a former colleague.

...Set Agenda for MDAs

In a bid to set the governance agenda, front-load priority projects and strengthen service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has flagged off the 2026 Ministerial Briefing exercise.

The Governor formally commenced the two-week exercise while addressing an enlarged Executive Council meeting at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, describing the briefing as timely, strategic and necessary.

Governor Eno explained that the ministerial briefings would provide Commissioners, Heads of Agencies and Managing Directors the opportunity to render accounts of stewardship, consolidate achievements recorded over the past two and a half years, and align their operations with the ARISE Agenda of his administration.

One week after the State Executive Council meeting, the Governor reconvened Commissioners, Heads of Agencies and Managing Directors at the Exco Chambers and charged them to make structured, concise and data-driven presentations, clearly demonstrating how their activities have impacted their staff and the people of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, the essence of the exercise is to deepen accountability, improve coordination across MDAs and ensure that governance outcomes remain people-centred and results-oriented.

The Governor announced that the first day of the briefing, scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, by 3:00 p.m., will feature presentations by the Commissioner for Works,; the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs and the Commissioner for Education and Chairman, Ibom Tourism Board. He expressed optimism that the sessions would be interactive and productive.

Beyond the briefing exercise, Governor Eno urged Commissioners to return to their respective political strongholds to mobilise residents for voter registration, noting that the current turnout remains unsatisfactory.

The Governor further disclosed that 2026 will be a year of intensive governance and political engagement, with plans to execute over sixty priority projects, in addition to ongoing road construction across the State.

He announced that from February, three Commissioners will be scheduled for regular briefings coordinated by the Commissioner for Information, while the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh, will continue to feature Commissioners weekly on radio programmes, including Matters Arising.

Governor Eno also directed contractors handling government projects to prioritise the fixing of potholes, particularly within the Uyo metropolis, as the dry season sets in, stressing that funds have been released for immediate intervention.

He charged Commissioners to be more proactive in the discharge of their duties, warning that excuses would not be tolerated, as 2026 is a year of action, delivery and measurable results.

Speaking at the Government House,Uyo on Monday while receiving the foremost Socio- Political Group,ARISE Renewed Hope Initiative, Governor ENO appreciated the composition of the Group describing them as people who have come to drive the future of unity that will enhance development for the success of the ARISE Agenda.

" I must sincerely appreciate the composition of this Group. God brings ideas to People. This Group reflects unity of the Akwa Ibom Spirit. This Group will enhance a seamless election for President Tinubu, Senator Godswill Akpabio myself and other candidates of the Party", Governor Umo Eno stated.

" As history beckons towards the general elections, we must ensure that all Groups have the endorsement of the Party. We must continue on the trajectory of Peace and Development. I want to use this opportunity to charge the people of Akwa Ibom State to participate in the on e-registation of voters by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) and mobilise effectively for massive victory at the Polls, Gov. Akwa Ibom State has concluded the 32-day Christmas Unplugged festival with the celebration of Uyo Day 2025, held at the Village Square, Christmas Park, Uyo.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, described the Christmas Unplugged initiative especially Uyo day as a fulfillment of the aspirations of the forefathers of Uyo people for unity and peaceful coexistence.

The SSG commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to tourism development, and economic growth said the event has enhanced cultural preservation.

While expressing gratitude to the Governor for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom to the world also thanked the State Chief Executive for numerous developmental strides recorded in Uyo Local Government under his watch.

He assured the people of Uyo of more dividends of democracy under the current administration and expressed confidence that the Local Government Area would deliver massive support for Governor Umo Eno in the 2027 elections.

“Today, Uyo has become one united Local Government. I thank His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, for putting this together to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world and for the things he has done for the people of Uyo. As SSG, I can tell you authoritatively that we have never had it this good,” he said.

Also speaking, Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, said the event was aimed at projecting the cultural and economic potentials of Uyo to the global audience.

According to him, Christmas Unplugged has significantly boosted tourism and economic activities in the State, with increased visitor traffic and full hotel occupancy during the festive period.

On his part, the Delivery Advisor to the Governor on Tourism, Mr. Charles Udoh, noted that Christmas Unplugged has provided a platform for preserving indigenous culture despite the pressures of urbanisation.

In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon, also commended Governor Umo Eno for his cordial relationship with traditional rulers and his inclusive leadership style, calling on the people to support the Governor’s return to the Hilltop Mansion in 2027.

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for the opportunity to serve and for prioritising tourism, which he said has made the Ministry more active and impactful.

He thanked stakeholders for their collaboration and urged continued support for Governor Umo Eno's administration.

The event was attended by prominent personalities, including Member Representing Uyo in AKHA, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, Immediate Past Chairman of the Local Government Civil Service Commission, Hon. The people of Ikono–Ini Federal Constituency have unanimously adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, as their preferred candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The adoption was formally declared today, Monday 29th December 2025, at the constituency’s annual Yuletide Meeting, which also featured a massive 50,000-man solidarity march across Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas. The event attracted political leaders, party stakeholders, traditional rulers, community representatives and supporters from across the federal constituency.

Setting the tone for the gathering, Sir Victor Etefia commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold and necessary steps toward stabilising the economy and positioning the country for sustainable growth. He urged constituents to remain patient and supportive, expressing confidence in the long-term benefits of the reforms.

Also speaking, Obonganwan Lovina Umoefah emphasised the importance of unity and continuity in governance, noting that the endorsement reflected the people’s confidence in leaders who have shown capacity, consistency and commitment to development at the national and state levels.

Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikono and Ini LGAs declared the party’s full alignment with the adoption, assuring that grassroots party structures were firmly behind the decision. The council chairmen of both local governments also pledged sustained mobilisation and engagement in support of the endorsed leaders.

Addressing the gathering, the Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (PhD), described the endorsement as a reflection of the people’s appreciation of purposeful leadership.

“We are encouraging continuity because of visible results. From the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the stabilising leadership of the Senate President, to the inclusive and unifying governance of Pastor Umo Eno, our people have made it clear that performance matters,” Ukpong-Udo said.

The lawmaker also announced a N1.5 billion empowerment package scheduled for rollout in February 2026, aimed at boosting livelihoods, supporting small businesses, and empowering youths and women across the constituency. He disclosed plans for a ward-by-ward tour to personally identify beneficiaries, assuring that the process would be transparent and free from external influence.

In the spirit of the season, Rep. Ukpong-udo further gifted a total of N250 million Christmas support package for constituents, a declaration that was met with loud applause and appreciation from attendees.

It was an atmosphere of joy, unity, and celebration as Elder Iniobong Obot hosted friends, community leaders, residents, family members, and youth groups at his Christmas Party held on Sunday, 28th December 2025, in Ikot Nko, Ward 6, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

The event, which formed part of his Christmas engagements in the community, was marked by music, dancing, and lively interactions, as guests gathered to celebrate the festive season in a spirit of togetherness and goodwill. Community leaders and residents described the gathering as a timely opportunity to strengthen bonds, promote harmony, and reinforce unity at the grassroots level.

As part of the engagements, Elder Obot held an interactive meeting with men, women, and youth groups from Ward 6, during which he expressed appreciation for their continued support and active participation in community affairs. He encouraged the youths, in particular, to remain committed to peace, unity, and the overall development of Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

In his address, Elder Obot urged the people to sustain their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, as well as key political leaders including Senator Aniekan Bassey, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, and Hon. Prince Aniefiok Attah. He also called for unwavering support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nsit Atai, emphasizing the importance of strong grassroots mobilisation and unity, particularly at the ward level.

In their responses, representatives of the men, women, and youth groups expressed deep gratitude to Elder Obot, describing the Christmas Party and engagement as unprecedented. They reaffirmed their loyalty and continued support for the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, among others.

The high point of the event was the disbursement of cash support by Elder Iniobong Obot to each of the groups present, a gesture that was met with excitement and appreciation.

Governor Umo Eno’s award for Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment is by my estimation, the most prestigious honors his government has received since taking power in just over two years.

Bestowed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) is a high-profile national honor for the governor’s impact in rural development, agriculture, security, and public service productivity in Akwa Ibom State.

The award was not unexpected, especially to me. Over the past 30 months, the governor’s achievements have attracted a slew of laurels, not from low galleries but reputable, high-end institutions, top media houses, international bodies, government institutions and prominent business organizations.

For instance, in July 2024, the Nigerian American Chambers of Commerce bestowed on him the Distinguished Public Service and Transformational Leadership Award. This was preceded by multiple Governor Of The Year awards from Thisday newspaper, Leadership, Telegraph, ARISE TV and many others.

As mentioned earlier, NEAPS’s award did not come as a surprise. This was clear to me two months prior, precisely when the list of beneficiaries for various multi-level grants and business support initiatives landed on my desk, complete with their phone numbers and locations.

The grant beneficiaries ranged from N5 million, N1 million, to N500,000 for farmers, with a combined total of 798 people drawn from rural communities. The list also includes traders’ grants of N1 million, N450,000, and N250,000, with total beneficiaries amounting to 1,318 persons.

Through the IBOM-LED program, 1,097 individuals received both training and equipment support totaling N750,000. Separately, the DASAC program provided skills training to 274 individuals, while 231 painters also received specialized training. Additionally, a total of 29,618 youths benefited from soft grants of N50,000 each. This is apart from the provision of N50,000 for over 30,000 CBT applicants.

Upon compiling the dataset and arriving at the big figure, instead of basking in the governor’s evident accomplishment, something shifted.
It started with a casual curiosity. How do I match faces to this sea of names? Beyond the spreadsheet, what were the beneficiaries doing with the Governor's grants? How had the assistance and support improved their lives and their families'?

It wasn’t long, before the curiosity hardened into a resolve. A resolve to embark on a journey to connect with at least 1,000 recipients of the grant. This was clearly ambitious—and I might add, audacious mission to undertake.

I was cautiously excited.

The mission was to simply capture the human stories behind the data and evaluate impact.
For over a month, my team and I, with logistics support from Anietie Usen, SSA to the Governor on Media and Publicity visited the rural communities, from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to Eket and Uyo respectively.

While I fell short of the initial 1,000-persons goal—way short actually—we nonetheless were able to reach a fair number of rural entrepreneurs, evaluate their performance, share in their simple joys, and unlearn a disappointing bias in the process.

To be sure, I approached this project with some trepidation. From previous experience working with an NGO, I had learned that grant beneficiaries often abhor the monitoring and evaluation team. This time, however, the reality was completely different. The beneficiaries were warm, welcoming, and in many instances, even insisted on giving us gifts of fruit. They also spoke warmly about the governor.

“My golden governor has changed my story today”. Said Mokomabasi Abasi Emmanuel, a cheerful mother of three and a shop owner in Abak who sells soap, salt, canned foods, bags sachet water, garri, beans, rice, drinks and other foodstuffs. "My shop was like a skeleton, I would not lie. I had a little of everything, but not enough of anything until I received the grant of N350,000”

Similarly, in Eket, Ntiense Emmanuel, a fashion designer, expressed gratitude to the governor for his N750,000 IBOM-LED grant. "This is the first time in Akwa Ibom that I am seeing a governor who is reaching out to the business of the downtrodden. May God bless him abundantly,"

In Ntit Oton, Nsit Ubium, the story was the same. Deborah Effiong, a provisions shop owner, smiled warmly at the camera and thanked the governor profusely for the grant. “My dream was to turn my shop into a mini-supermarket, and my brother-governor has made this possible for me,”

Governor Umo Eno is my church—and I do not mind that my assertion is open to provocative interpretations—I follow his development gospel with the devotion of a zealot. The five pillars of the ARISE Agenda and its eighteen focal points are more or less my daily scripture. I go deeper. I forage through his speeches for omission, evasion and subtext, an Achilles heel.

In the end, the forensics paid off. And I found something—something oddly curious. I found that there may be an award or two that may elude this governor throughout his time in office. Not because he has failed in his social contract with the Akwa Ibom people, but because he isn’t built for certain things.

As the year ends and a new one dawns in a few days, one thing is increasingly certain: Governor Umo Eno won't be winning any "Failed Projects Awards." The reasons are obvious. Apart from the projects he initiated, which are proceeding at breakneck speed, he's also busy ridding the state of every abandoned project that hitherto littered our landscape like tombstones.

Neither will he win the "Empty Rhetoric Award." To be clear, this category is reserved for nitpicking naysayers and social media vuvuzelas. From all indications, he's also unlikely to be crowned with a "Master of Blame-Shifting" certificate; he's too hard at work to stop and point fingers. His trophy trove won't bear the plaque for "Master of Disunity" either, for he's a pacifier and a unifier—a pastor-governor, leading the Akwa Ibom Ministry of Unity and Reconciliation.

…sues for genuine love among Christians

The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has emphasized that Christmas remains a time to celebrate the mercy of God in saving mankind through the birth of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at this year’s Christmas Service at the United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church) Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area, Mr Emmanuel said it is a tradition held to celebrate Emmanuel, God with us,

“There’s a star for a King in every family, and that’s why the Wisemen could identify the star of Jesus Christ amongst other stars.

“This is a period of prophecy, and so, may your star shine in your family’.

Mr. Emmanuel, in tandem with Biblical injunctions, called for continuous prayers for the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD., and other leaders and further acknowledged the peace enjoyed in the State under the present administration.

He urged everyone to be his brother’s keeper, loving genuinely and caring for one another.

He noted with gratitude the good work of Council Chairman, Hon. Kufre Umoren and encouraged all to submit to constituted authorities, while wishing all a blissful and merry Christmas celebrations.

In a sermon at the service on the theme ‘Lessons behind the Season’ the Resident Pastor of the United Evangelical Church, Awa Iman, Ikot Idem Udo Superintendency, Rev. Titus Akpan, exhorted the congregants on the need to emulate the humility of Jesus Christ as seen from his birth to ministry life.

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light and they in the shadow of death, have the light of life. This is a major lesson behind the season, having Jesus Christ as the light of the world.

“Again, out of Jude’s, the least among the provinces shall come a Governor that shall rule my people, which implies that most great people would always come from very humble background.

“Yet another lesson is evident in the inability of King Herod to stop the rising of the Baby King, Jesus Christ illustrating the tendency of powers to rise against God’s plans, and the certainty that the will of God will always prevail”.

Prayers over the sermon was led by Dcns. Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, while the Bible readings drawn from Isaiah Chapter 9, verses 1 through 7 and Matthew Chapter 2, verses 1 through 15, were taken by Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.

The Christmas Service which featured prayers for the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, and the immediate Governor and their families and sessions of praise and worship, and thanksgiving amidst song ministrations by various choirs, had in attendance members of the immediate past first family of the State, the Conference Chairman of the Church, and people from all walks of life who congregated to celebrate the 2025 edition of the Christmas Service.

Mr Udom Emmanuel later hosted the people to a musical and cultural carnival, a yearly ritual at the QIC Primary School, Awa Iman, an event which saw the Akwa Ibom Governor represented by the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Emem Bob, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs and Social Re-Orientation, Barr Kufre Udosen and the Governor’s political adviser, Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh.

In the spirit of the yuletide, the wife of the member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency, Dr. Dorcas Mark Esset put smiles on the faces of hundreds of men, women and youths as she doled out several bags of rice to them.

This she did to compliment her husband's benevolence and to key into His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno's call on highly placed individuals to share a token of love to all and sundry.

The visibly elated beneficiaries of the token expressed sincere appreciation to the family of the Federal Rep member for the show of love and affection. And they prayed the Almighty God to continue to bless and keep them.

In the same vein, Dr. Dorcas Esset PhD fete a cross section of physically challenged persons. In turn, they exhibit appreciation to the giver and her family.

There is a peculiar irony in watching a man preach betrayal with the intensity of a moral crusader while standing knee-deep in the very conduct he claims to condemn. That irony defines the recent publication by Ata Ikiddeh. What presents itself as a sermon on loyalty is, in truth, a personal grievance dressed in borrowed scripture, exaggerated metaphors, and synthetic outrage.

Betrayal is not a casual word. It is not a metaphor to be rented by the disappointed or a costume to be worn by the rejected. It is a grave moral charge that demands evidence, restraint, and credibility. Yet what Ata Ikiddeh offers is none of these; only insinuation, emotional manipulation, and the familiar anger of a man whose ambition has consistently outpaced his relevance.

His essay reads less like principled reflection and more like a frustrated soliloquy. It is long, theatrical, and heavy with imagery, but empty of facts. It seeks not to illuminate, but to suggest; not to prove, but to poison.

And it forces a simple, unavoidable question: who exactly is the betrayer here?

Is it Dr. Essien Ndueso—a man with a verifiable record of scholarship, service, and earned trust—or is it the perennial applicant for relevance who, after failing to secure institutional legitimacy through merit, resorts to weaponising language and morality?

This moment did not arrive suddenly. Ata Ikiddeh’s outburst is part of a long, predictable pattern, one that dates back more than a decade. Those familiar with Akwa Ibom’s political ecosystem have seen it before. The method is consistent: relentless proximity to power, unsolicited “support” mistaken for entitlement, access converted into leverage, and government courtesy interpreted as permanent patronage. When proposals laden with budgets, logistics, hotel bills, flights, and consultancy fees are not accepted wholesale, hostility inevitably follows. It worked for him in 2009 during Godswill Akpabio’s time, it didn’t click in 2016, hence the vituperative attitude to the immediate past Governor. This is not ideology. It is transactional outrage, intensified by the quest for stomach infrastructure.

Criticism motivated by public interest has a distinct tone measured, evidence-based, and focused on institutions rather than individuals. Ata Ikiddeh’s tone is unmistakably different. It carries the bitterness of frustration, not the discipline of civic responsibility.

What makes this spectacle even more striking is the selective amnesia that accompanies it. Ata Ikiddeh did not merely disagree with Pastor Umo Eno during the campaign season; he openly opposed and campaigned against him, championed rival interests, and invested his voice in an alternative political outcome. He lost fairly, decisively, and democratically. Now, post-victory, he seeks relevance not through reconciliation or humility, but through insinuation and blackmail masquerading as public commentary. When that fails, he cries betrayal.

One must ask plainly: is betrayal one’s failure to attract patronage or refusing to be bullied by you?

There is also an uncomfortable question Ata Ikiddeh persistently avoids one rooted not in politics, but in history. He is not a young activist finding his voice, nor a Gen-Z disruptor experimenting with digital relevance. He is a product of one of the most privileged legal generations Nigeria has ever produced: the University of Calabar Law Class of 1987 that went to the Nigerian Law School, Class of 1988.

This matters, because names matter.
That academic ecosystem produced men who have gone on to define Nigeria’s legal and political architecture: Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and now President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister for Works, Power and Housing; Senator Liyel Imoke, former Minister of Power and Steel and former Governor of Cross River State, Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Senator Joy Emordi, and Justice Okon Abang of the Court of Appeal.

These were not distant legends. They were classmates,men who shared the same lecture halls, the same academic pressures, and the same national moment. While his peers ascended into jurisprudence, governance, and institutional leadership, Ata Ikiddeh perfected something else: proximity without purpose. This is not an insult. It is an observable trajectory.

At a stage of life when his contemporaries are policymakers, interpreting constitutional law, and steering national institutions, Ata Ikiddeh presents himself publicly as a “content creator” not as a matter of innovation, but of default. There is dignity in every honest profession, but there is something profoundly unsettling about a man of that pedigree, exposure, and opportunity choosing to build relevance almost exclusively through grievance, antagonism, and public blackmail.

It forces a question no amount of rhetorical flourish can silence: what happened between promise and present? Was it misfortune or a chronic inability to understand that access is not achievement, and proximity is not legacy?Blackmail, here the ready replacement for the jamboree lifestyle he opted for, while his peers remained in class, eyes on the ball?

Ata Ikiddeh’s record reveals a man perpetually auditioning for relevance, moving from one power centre to another, proposals in hand, demanding recognition. When embraced, he praises. When ignored, he attacks. When rejected, he moralises. This is not activism. It is entitlement reacting badly to limits.

It is therefore no surprise that Dr. Essien Ndueso has become a target. He represents everything this narrative cannot tolerate: quiet competence, earned trust, institutional loyalty, and relevance that does not beg for validation, one who does not trend by provocation. He does not negotiate relevance through threats. He does not seek visibility by tearing others down. And for those who confuse noise with influence, silence backed by credibility is intolerable.

So here is the question Ata Ikiddeh continues to dodge, no matter how many essays he writes or scriptures he borrows: how does a man who shared classrooms with Senate Presidents, Federal Cabinet members, and Appellant Court Justices, end up believing that blackmail is a substitute for legacy?

Until that question is answered honestly, every lecture he delivers on betrayal will remain what it truly is a frustration disguised as condemnation. History has already taken note. The public is merely catching up. And all those he attempts to pull down remain standing, vindicated not by noise, but by record.

2025 is ending, peacefully, I should hope. Critics of everything have retreated, and “Area is Calm.”
Yuletide brings a separate quiet, Carols and gentle nostalgia.

Here on my veranda, I sit, without a care in the world, sniffing the air for a whiff of harmattan that’s been playing hide-and-seek.

But the wind is fickle.

Today, it carries unfamiliar Christmas scents—and with them, the amusing recollection of Governor Umo Eno's worst critics for year 2025

I recall Kenneth Okonkwo. The Nollywood runaway actor.

Okonkwo, by tragic character flaw, is a notorious loudspeaker and political wanderer. There is hardly any major political platforms in Nigeria that he hasn’t rubbed his scents on. From the PDP, to APC, back to LP and currently flying the ADC colors.

However, when Governor Umo Eno defected from the PDP to APC a few months ago, Okonkwo was the first to accuse him of abandoning ship. His linguistically, awkward term “transgenderic”, uttered with intent to sound learned, was interrupted by the governor’s sharp reminder: “You are still living in bondage”

Kenneth Okonkwo would likely not forget the spar. Unlike his literary namesake in Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart—a man who stood fiercely for culture and fatherland—this Okonkwo stands for nothing.

My reminiscences are not for nothing. It’s puzzling to me that despite commendable achievement and national recognitions this governor has amassed for excellent delivery on the ARISE Agenda, some critics are bent on undermining his sterling performance.

To be sure, every political year breaks differently. In Akwa Ibom, while construction equipment roared at one end, there was annoying static from critics. But development is measured in projects and lives touched, not in the noise made by critics. As the year ends, one question remains: what matters more? The critics’ noise or the governor’s impeccable record of performance?

Earlier, I realized that the fastest way to infuriate critics is to remind them of the governor’s achievements. They hate it. They hate that he is connecting with the people and impacting lives in ways they wish he didn't. Above all, they hate hearing the testimonies of beneficiaries from the ARISE multilevel business grants and equipment support programs.

If the budget performance hits 99.9%, they bury it in a footnote instead of giving it a befitting headline. A landmark project like the ARISE Palm Resort, set to be West Africa's premier tourism destination and create 3,000 jobs for Akwa Ibomites, is ignored entirely.

They cannot bring themselves to mention the Ibom International Hotel, or the Ibom International Conference Centre that's rapidly transforming our skyline.. The ingenuity behind the development of the entire Shopping City corridor is, in their eyes, an aberration, unworthy of recognition.

Recently, not a single line of praise was written when the governor secured night flights and international approval for Victor Attah International Airport—a historic repositioning of our aviation industry. Not a whimper was heard.

They scoff at verifiable data and statistics, search for financial misconduct and upon finding none, just attack the man.

“Umo Eno is a Pharaoh!” One factional publicity secretary of the PDP shrieked.

His outrage directed not at the cabal of his corrupt party responsible for loss of integrity and territory to the APC, targeted a harmless man, whose only 'sin' was refusing to pamper recalcitrant aides.

Okpo’s transgression was resisted with sharp repudiation from commentariat, opinion writers and moral pundits.

Rev. Osondu Ahirika—writer, thinker, and SSA to Governor Umo Eno on Ethical Orientation—wielded his critique as a moral cudgel. "Does empathy, charity, good-heartedness, mercy, and humanness qualify one to be tagged a Pharaoh in the PDP's factional dialectics?” he wrote

Going further, he wondered how a pharaoh gives 13 months' salary, distributes food vouchers to 600,000 families in Akwa Ibom state, and builds 300 compassionate homes for 300 vulnerable families. Empower 30,000 Akwa Ibom youths with grant, skill and equipment support. Not to mention the N50,000 monthly stipends to the elderly.

If Okpo’s intention was to rewrite scripture by assigning to Pharaoh attributes the Egyptian was incapable of, we may never know. What we however know, is that, the chap is not fit to untie the shoelace of the man he writes lies about.

“Do not insult anyone," said the governor. Stressing civility in the engagement with critic, he said. "I knew insults would come from the day I accepted this job. I do not wish for anyone to be insulted in my defense. The minimum standard I require is that you engage with facts."

Facts are stubborn things the governor believes. As a champion of peace and unity, he knows critics are like lawless guerrillas—They don’t fight fair. It’s brickbats and blunt force for them. But facts wins every time. Facts cancel insults. There are proofs. Reuben Abati is one.

Reuben Abati is no ordinary critic. He is heavyweight, a charging bull who doesn’t just trash talks when upset, but ensures you get the receipts. He has the platform. Two and half years ago, he called governor Umo Eno, “pepper soup governor” in a cruel response to governor Umo Eno’s happy hour comments.

But two and a half years later, he held the most comprehensive document of the governor’s achievements proudly in hand, “The Golden Footprints”, a book compiled by veteran journalist, Anietie Usen, and smiled to the camera.

Abati, unlike the scatterbrained critics loitering Akwa Ibom social media space, is a honest man. He speaks truth to power and bows only to his conviction. He does not capitulate to audio achievements no matter how powerful the interest. To him, seeing is believing.

As night descends where I sit, and the sounds of generators erupt around my neighborhood, I pause to reflect on the words of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, in his famous "Man in the Arena" speech

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena.”

On 19 December at the Ibom Amphitheater, during the state’s Christmas Carols, Governor Umo Eno, foreseeing the surge in political criticism in the coming year, made his most significant statement to date: "I pray that God will help us... to say what is right, stand by what is right, to leave the naysayers, and to choose the path that will always lead to victory."

... distributes rice to 64 villages

As directed by the state governor, Etinan Council chairman, Hon Uko Umoh, on Saturday 20th December, 2025 hosted a cross section of Etinan people at the Council's Secretariat field.

The meeting which attracted people across party lines also witnessed cash donations from some political stakeholders from the local government area.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman informed them that the governor had sent 40 bags of 25KG to each of the 64 gazetted villages in Etinan local government area.

He also informed the people that the sharing of the rice was well documented stressing that, no recognized village will be left out of the governor's gift.

He appreciated the governor for the kind gesture, describing him as a compassionate leader."Giving food to the people has become a routine not only at Christmas since the coming of Pastor Umo Eno as governor of the state"

Hon Uko Umoh urged the people of Etinan not to compare what is happening in Etinan with other local government areas and called on them to remain resolute in their support to the governor beyond 2027.

Goodwill messages came from the APC chairman in Etinan local government area, representative of the senator for Uyo senatorial district, representative of Obong Paul Ekpo, member representing Etinan State Constituency, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, representative of Isantim Kenneth Okon, Otuekong Sunny Jackson Udoh, Prof Akpan Ekpo, Dr. Okon Emah and Prof Usen Ikpe.

There was joy and excitement in Uyo on Saturday as indigenes and residents of the Local Government Area came together for the Governor’s Christmas Meeting held at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Abak Road, Uyo.

From early afternoon, men, women, and community leaders gathered in a cheerful mood, exchanging pleasantaries, as they waited to celebrate the season as one big family.

The meeting which was convened at the instance of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD to facilitate the distribution of 40bags of rice to each of the gazetted villages across the state, saw stakeholders in Uyo Local Government add their support in the sum of ₦11million and extra 900 bags of rice.

This enabled each of the 75 villages in Uyo to also go home with additional bags of rice and monetary incentives.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, expressed satisfaction with the joy displayed by the beneficiaries, noting that the people of Uyo are delighted to partner with Governor Umo Eno in the kind gesture.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, assured the people that Governor Umo Eno would continue to show commitment to their welfare, while urging them to support his re-election bid in 2027.

In their separate remarks, the Deputy Political Leader, Rt. Hon. Monday Eyo; Member representing Uyo State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo; the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia; the Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, David Sargent; and the Leader of the Uyo Legislative Council all lauded the Governor for the large-scale distribution of rice.

The distribution exercise was conducted peacefully and to ensure transparency and accountability, village heads and chairmen, alongside youth presidents collected the christmas largesse on behalf of their communities, not forgetting the non-indigenes residing within Uyo LGA.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has extended Christmas cheer to the people of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area with the distribution of 40 bags of rice to each of the 47 villages, as part of his Christmas outreach across the state.

Amplifying the Governor’s gesture, the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene LGA, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, added 100 bags of rice to support the Governor’s initiative. The distribution took place on Friday, December 20, 2025, at the Ikot Ekpene Council Secretariat.

Speaking during the event, Elder Nkom commended Governor Eno for his compassionate and people-centred leadership, noting that the gesture reflected the Governor’s commitment to grassroots-focused governance. He expressed the appreciation of the people of Ikot Ekpene and pledged their continued support for the Governor and other leaders.

According to him, the Governor’s long-standing pledge to govern from the grassroots to the top is being practically demonstrated through such interventions.

He also thanked village heads, village chairmen, youth presidents, women leaders, stakeholders, and residents of Ikot Ekpene for their peaceful conduct and cooperation during the exercise.

Urue-Offong Oruko Boosts Governor Eno's Christmas Largesse with ₦14 Million and 100 Bags of Rice

The Stakeholders of Urue-Offong Oruko Local Government Area have amplified Governor Pastor Umo Eno's Christmas Homegoing initiative by contributing ₦14 million and 100 additional bags of rice to complement the Governor's distribution of 40 bags of rice to each village across the State.

The Chairman of Urueoffong Oruko, Rt Hon Uno Etim Uno made the announcement today while speaking to newsmen during the disbursement of bag of rice to all the Villages across the Local Government area.

He commended the Governor for his giant strides which include the first ever road constructed and commissioned by the state government in UrueOffong Oruko, noting that the Governor has mobilized contractors to the newly awarded road for construction.

The member representing Urue-Offong/Oruko state constituency in Rt. Hon. Precious Selong, who spoke on behalf of the women also contributed ₦4 million to the initiative. She applauded the Governor for his gender inclusive government which has seen the empowerment of women across the state in respectable positions.

‎On December 18, 2025, the serene premises of the Prayer City, Mountain of Fire Ministries, Magboro, became the setting for a deeply reflective and inspiring moment as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, delivered the Convocation Lecture at the Mountain Top University’s seventh Convocation Ceremony. What was expected to be a formal academic address evolved into an evocative narrative of vision, resilience, passion and faith.

‎Despite an exceptionally demanding schedule, which included preparations for the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol Festival widely regarded as Nigeria’s largest, Governor Eno honoured the University’s invitation. Amidst several other competiting events and activities, Governor Umo Eno, known generally as Big Daddy, elected to undertake the rigorous journey from Akwa Ibom to Ogun State, driving for more than an hour from the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos, through the heavily congested roads in Ikeja through the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway. His presence underscored a philosophy he has consistently embodied: leadership is service, and service demands sacrifice. Framing his governance through the lens of compassion and Christian values, he presented the ARISE Agenda not merely as a policy framework but as a moral commitment to uplift the vulnerable.

But his deep interest in the welfare of the vulnerable, who now form his first line of charge, stems from his own story- a young man from a humble family, whose determination, sagacity and focus, led him to overcome the challenges thrown at him by life, to rise to the top, both in his private business, in God’s vineyard and in public service.

‎The lecture’s theme, “Dream Big, Start Small, Grow Fast,” was not rhetorical flourish but a distilled philosophy drawn from lived experience. Addressing the graduands, Governor Eno cautioned against entitlement mentality and the lure of quick success. True achievement, he insisted, is forged through discipline, creativity, integrity, and sustained effort. Success, in his words, is not inherited, it is earned.

‎In one of the most poignant moments of the lecture, Governor Eno recounted his humble beginnings. As the son of a police officer who died in active service, he assumed responsibility early in life, assisting his mother by hawking soft drinks on the streets of Lagos in the early 1980s. Yet, even amid these challenges, he excelled academically at Victory High School, Ikeja, where he served as Senior Prefect an early testament to character and leadership.

‎He reflected without resentment on the discrimination he endured because of his skin colour, acknowledging how ridicule became the crucible that refined his determination. From those formative years emerged an entrepreneurial spirit that would later give rise to one of Akwa Ibom State’s largest hospitality conglomerates, built from a modest five-room hotel. Ironically, the very trait once mocked would come to symbolize his leadership of the “Golden State.”
“On one occasion, a teacher turned to my classmate and told him point blankly, Gbenga, what are you doing with this Barracks Boy, don’t you know he has no future ambition in life? Any other person would have felt resentment and withdrawn. But rather than get deterred by such comments, Umo Bassey Eno challenged himself to disappoint those who had written him off. I hawked on the streets of Ikeja and today, when I see women selling on the road, I ask my driver to stop so that I can support their businesses. If the security people try to discourage me, I jump off from the vehicle, because I was once like those people.”

‎Everyone says that Pastor Umo Eno has demystified governance with a rare display of humility and love for the people. A General who charges in front on the battleground,he is not just that governor who sits on an armchair in the office to rely on reports and memos. Just like he did last year, he has foreclosed any decision by contractors to embark on vacation during this year’s Yuletide, urging them rather to remain on site and avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the dry season window. It was a subtle yet powerful reminder that leadership is demonstrated not in comfort, but in commitment.

‎This leadership approach largely accounts to the achievements he has recorded in office, fetching for himself numerous national and international acclamation. Highlighting tangible outcomes of his administration before the graduands, Governor Eno spoke of 335 out of the targeted 500 fully furnished compassionate homes built for widows, monthly 50,000 naira extended to over 600 senior citizens, the clearance of ₦75 billion in gratuity arrears, the food items to the poorest of the poor, among others welfare packages.

Education, he emphasized, remains central to sustainable development. His government has established 31 model primary schools, built three secondary schools, upgraded a college to university status, and introduced bursaries, free examination fees, and wardrobe allowances for teachers.

‎In healthcare, he declared a state of emergency to stem professional brain drain, while investing in a 350-bed international hospital and enrolling 10,000 elderly citizens into a state-supported health insurance scheme. Infrastructure development has seen the rehabilitation of over 1,000 kilometres of roads, complemented by youth development centres and a sports academy. These milestones, he noted, align with a personal conviction he articulated at his inauguration: having risen from life’s lowest rungs, he would remain the voice and champion of those at the margins.

In summary, his message to the Mountain Top University convocants, compromising 282 undergraduates with 42 first class honours, 64 Postgraduate Diploma / Masters and 9 with doctoral degrees, charged them on dream without limits, but built with patience and principle as there is yet to exist, any shortcuts to enduring success. While character, humility, and honest labour remain the true currencies of legacy.

With a prayer for God’s guidance and excellence, Governor Umo Eno sent the graduands forth not merely as degree holders, but as future builders of purpose and impact.

“Whenever I remember my small beginnings and how God stepped in to arrange my path and the people who led me to the point He had destined for me, I am in awe of His mercies and grace. God can and will do the same for you, but you must learn to start something, grow something, dream of something, and put in the hard work.”

Governor Umo Eno has commended the peaceful and seamless working relationship between Councillors and their respective Local Government Council Chairmen.

Speaking at a two-day capacity building workshop for Councillors themed: "Enhancing Legislative Effectiveness for Grassroots Development" held at Ibom-LED Centre, Uyo, the Governor described the relationship as disciplined and progressive.

The Governor acknowledged the performances of all the 31 LGA Chairmen in the State and lauded the Councillors for their team spirit and smooth working relationship with their Council Chairmen.

"I specially thank you, the Councillors, for your harmonious working relationship with your Chairmen. It is the support that you have given to the Chairmen that has contributed immensely to the impressive development that we are witnessing today in all the Local Government Areas of our State.

"You are what the House of Assembly is to the State Executive. Without the State House of Assembly working in cooperation with the Executive, you won't see any development in the State," he noted.

Governor Eno approved a review of imprests, security votes, and constituency projects for the Councillors, declaring that, they also deserve to be encouraged and motivated for their continued positive collaboration.

He charged the Councillors to continue also to work with his Ward Personal Assistants at the grassroots to maintain proper control and management of the Wards in peace.

"We expect you to also help the Government in executing little projects that have significant bearing on the lives of our people at the grassroots level," he said.

The Governor commended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong and the Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, for their effective coordination of all the Local Government Chairmen alongside the Councillors.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the General Manager of Ibom-LED, Mr. Ime Uwah, for helping his Government to properly interpret the vision that it had on the repositioning of the former E-Library along IBB Avenue.

Impressed by the transformation of the Centre, the Governor directed that the building should equally serve as the State's School of Hospitality Management for training of hospitality personnel for improved service delivery in the tourism sector.

"The building should also serve the Youth-friendly Centre for Uyo Local Government Area, and Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, should immediately also ensure that Internet service is made available in the building," he said.

Earlier, in their remarks, Mkpisong Archibong, and Dr. Udo commended Governor Eno for identifying and supporting the Councillors to host their workshop in the course of the year.

They pledged the continued support and loyalty of Council Chairmen and Councillors to his Government.

High-points of the occasion were the votes of confidence passed by the Councillors on Governor Umo Eno and his administration, as well as their adoption of a motion to support the Governor's re-election into office for a second term in 2027, following what they described as "the superlative performance of his first term."

At the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor to the Governor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State Executive Council, political stalwarts, captains of industry, and other Government functionaries.

The Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, the Commisioner for Youth, Dr Ekerete Ekanem, Special Adviser on Political Affairs and Social Re-orientation, Barr Kufre Udosen, as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso were among dignitaries at the Watbridge Hotel when the Personal Assistants to the Governor drawn from all the 358 wards in the State converge to endorse the Governor for a second term in office.

The event, themed “RISING with ARISE,” had signatures collected from all members led by their Dean, Mr Aniefiok James.

Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh underscored the Governor’s approach to leadership, emphasized that Governor Umo Eno, PhD believes in speaking less but delivering more.

“He is an ardent deliverer who does not come to play politics, He intentionally believes in the Arise agenda, so that we will become great Akwa Ibomites.”

The Political Adviser who represented the Governor at the event, urged them to serve as nexus of support to their communities.

“You are the mirrors, and ambassadors of Pastor Umo Eno. If there is anything significant he has done, it is making a man out of all of you. Let your ward feel that you are there; let your local government feel that you are there”.

In his remark, the Dean of COPA II, Mr. Anefiok James Udo emphasized the importance of continuity to build on the success of the ARISE Agenda. He reminded attendees of the Governor’s decision to appoint PAs in all 368 political wards on October 1, 2023, calling them the “eyes of the government” at the grassroots level.

Barr. Kufre Udosen, Special Adviser on Political Affairs and Social Reorientation, lauded the event as a triumph over “ingratitude” and highlighted the Governor’s compassionate leadership. He pointed to the historic PA appointments and the generous welfare packages provided, which were later doubled, as a testament to Governor Eno’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

Dr. Essien Ndueso, Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, praised the Governor for his peace-driven governance and collaboration with the national ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He noted that Governor Eno had created an era of “Akwa Ibom United,” bringing together various political factions in the state.

He said it was the first time in the history of the State that performance has chased away all forms of opposition, adding that no one will have the courage to contest election against Governor Eno in 2027.

Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, represented by Mr Ubong Inyang, also commended Governor Eno’s leadership and the success of the ARISE Agenda.

He acknowledged the grassroots support that has flourished under the administration’s inclusive governance.

...Assures Of Immediate & Complete Electricity Light-up Of Premises_

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has commissioned the rehabilitated 1.4 km internal roads in the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, assuring of immediate and complete electricity light-up of the premises.

Governor Eno while addressing the jubilant crowd of Police officers who came out in their numbers to herald the commissioning of the roads said he has an emotional attachment with the Nigeria Police Force as his formative years was spent living in a Barracks with his father, a Policeman.

According to the Governor, he was in the Police Headquarters to keep to his promise of rehabilitating the entire internal roads in the Police Headquarters complete with six culverts and drains.

The Governor in his magnimity also announced a huge cash donation the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in the spirit of the yuletide season, promising to always liaise with security agencies to effectively combat crime in the State.

Welcoming the Governor, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said the intervention will strategically enhance and improve working environment including morale of officers.

He noted that since emerging as Governor, Pastor Eno has consistently supported the Nigeria Police Force and pledged unalloyed support to his administration.

Earlier, presenting an overview of the project, the Commissioner of Works and Fire service, Prof.Eno Ibanga, said the 1.4kilometer internal roads come with gutters and 6 outfall drains, adding that the construction of the roads is as a result of the Governor's passion for the well-being of the command and appreciated the Governor for remaining utterly committed to the completion of projects across the State.

... As Pre-Artisans Convention ends in Eket

The Pre-Artisans Convention of the Akwa Ibom State Artisans Association, Eket Senatorial District, has ended in Eket, with a charge on artisans, community leaders to key into the ARISE Agenda opportunities of Governor Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom State.

The colourful gathering marked by creativity, innovation and renewed commitment to skills development in took place at the Eket council secretariat grounds.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, described the convention as a timely platform that aligns strongly with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Eno.

He commended the organisers and participating artisans for their dedication to craftsmanship, enterprise and community development, noting that skills and productivity remain critical drivers of sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Ndueso urged artisans to take government programmes and initiatives seriously, stressing that many empowerment opportunities often go untapped due to lack of awareness or proper registration on the portal.

Expressing dismay that none of the participants had registered in any of the empowerment portals of the State, he maintained that the portals existed for transparency, equity and probity in government largesses for entrepreneurship development, skills acquisition and grants.

According to him, the state government continues to create pathways for artisans through structured interventions, capacity-building programmes and access to grants, adding that proper documentation and registration remain key requirements for inclusion.

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of Eket Senatorial District Chapter of the Association, Miss Adiakananwan Ekanem, said she was pleased with the success of the exhibition show, saying it was part of the efforts to engender awareness for artisanship in the State.

Miss Ekanem, herself a shoe manufacturer said she and others in the show were satisfied with participating in the private sector, and appealed for support from the State Government to enable them expand in their businesses.

She said the convention aimed to “inspiring and empowering aspiring artisans within the community”, and thanked the Governor’s aide and other dignitaries for their support.

Also speaking, Mr. Samuel Ekpenyong, President of the Akwa Ibom Artisans Association, highlighted the importance of unity, skills development and market access, describing the pre-convention as a build-up to broader engagement that will further showcase local talent and strengthen collaboration with government and private sector partners.

Participants described the convention as more than an exhibition, noting that it served as a celebration of talent, shared experiences and inspiration, while reinforcing the value of community and creativity in driving progress.

The Eket Pre-Artisans Convention wrapped up with renewed optimism, as artisans pledged to deepen their engagements with government initiatives and continue leveraging their crafts to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the development of Akwa Ibom State.

The convention also featured goodwill messages from several dignitaries, including the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Effiong; the State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE); the Village Head of Etebi Idung Akpaisang, Johnny Udia Edohoeket; Honourable Ekanem Willie, member of the Eket Chamber of Commerce, former Vice Chairman of Eket Local Government Area and immediate past Board Member of the Akwa Ibom State Technical School Board; and community leader Dr. Samuel Udonsak, President of the Eket Peoples Union.

Also in attendance were retired Permanent Secretary, Nsudo Nsudo and other notable personalities who applauded the artisans for their resilience and contributions to the local economy.

Gov. Eno Grants Automatic Employment to Once-Abandoned Girl Raised at Government Home

…Directs Head of Civil Service to Ensure Immediate Compliance

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, has approved the immediate employment of Miss Abigail Okon Edet, a young woman once abandoned at birth and raised in a government-owned children’s home, in a moving moment at the ongoing Christmas Unplugged 2025.

The Governor made the announcement during the formal opening and inspection of the Akwa Ibom State Government Pavilion, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Exercising his prerogative powers, Governor Eno waived all conditions and approved Abigail’s instant employment into the State Civil Service, with deployment to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service to ensure proper mentorship. He also directed the Head of the Civil Service and the Civil Service Commission to ensure immediate compliance.

Making the announcement, the Governor said:
“I approve the immediate employment of this young girl into the State Civil Service and direct the Head of the Civil Service and the Civil Service Commission to implement this decision without examination and deploy her to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service for mentorship . I am proud of her for rising above difficult circumstances, with government support, to become a graduate. No one should allow the circumstances of birth or life’s challenges to limit their success. Everyone is born with a purpose.”

Governor Eno urged young people not to be defined or limited by their background, place of origin, or life challenges, encouraging them never to give up on life.

Miss Abigail, while sharing her emotional life story, recounted surviving abandonment, rejection, and multiple attempts on her life before being rescued in 2010 by the Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and admitted into the Special Children’s Home, Uyo.

She went on to study Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Uyo, graduated in 2023, and completed her NYSC on 7th August 2025.

Reacting emotionally, Abigail said:
“I would have been long gone and forgotten. My grave would have been filled with grass by now if not for the intervention of the Government of Akwa Ibom State through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.”

She added:

“God bless Governor Umo Eno and the Government of Akwa Ibom State. God bless the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare. God bless my fellow siblings in the five government homes. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to child protection and inclusive governance, describing Abigail’s journey as a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of compassionate leadership.

The gesture stood out as one of the most defining moments of Christmas Unplugged 2025, reinforcing the message that in Akwa Ibom State, leadership is measured not only by projects delivered, but by lives restored and hope rekindled.

... Governor Umo Eno's Aide charges the Foundation on Boy-Child nurturing

The Peniela Joy Children’s Foundation has been officially unveiled with a vision to promote the training of the Boy-child as a strategic measure to ensure they become socially responsible and positively contribute to nation building.

The launching of the foundation took place on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Community Primary School, Orukim, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, following the declaration of its Boy-Child Support Initiative, with the theme, “A Boy Child Is Not A Molester But A Promise.”

Speaking on the initiative during the launch, Founder Of The Peniela Joy Children’s Foundation, Mrs Alice-Joe Mfon Henry, said the programme is designed to provide mentorship, emotional education, counselling, value-based training and opportunities for personal growth to every Boy Child.

Mrs Alice-Joe Mfon Henry argued that training the boy child with values of discipline, honesty, industry, empathy and responsibility should be encouraged even as the society is dedicated to the careful upbringing of the girl-child.

"The initiative aims to raise responsible, confident and purpose-driven boys for a better society," she stated.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ethical Orientation, Rev. Osondu Ahirika, PhD, commended the founder for prioritising the welfare and development of the Boy-Child noting that such initiatives are critical to raising responsible young men.

Dr Ahirika said Governor Umo Eno is committed to expanding opportunities for the children and has intensified this goal through the educational advancement component of his ARISE Agenda, and commended Mrs Alice-Joe Mfon Henry for the vision while praying God to bless her to sustain the foundation.

The Head Teacher Of The School, Mr Godwin Ekpo, expressed gratitude to the organisers for choosing Community Primary School, Orukim in their hometown as the venue to launch the initiative, describing the vision as a welcome development that will positively impact the young minds of the children in the community and beyond.

Goodwill messages were given by the Village Head, Ovong Duncan Asangenyi, Personal Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Comrade Hilary Owowo, husband of the founder and former Commissioner on the Board of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, Hon. Mfon Henry, former Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Christopher Bassey and the Village Youth President, Mr Uduak Effiong Inyang.

Highlights of the event included a keynote address on Raising Responsible, Confident and Purpose-Driven Boys For A Better Society and unveiling of the Boy-Child Support Initiative while the Pupils were well fed and cared for.

In every generation, certain moments testify to the power of talent and how it can lift an individual from obscurity into national relevance. For Chris Vic, the Eket-born visually-impaired singer whose voice has graced both streets and stages, the weekend’s events in Akwa Ibom State became a turning point: a convergence of destiny, opportunity and benevolence.

What unfolded was more than entertainment. It became a story of hope, compassion, and the incredible things that happen when society chooses to recognize ability rather than disability.

As the second runner-up of the last Naija Talent Hunt Show, a platform that revealed his vocal depth and musical power, the young performer was no novice to the microphone. But that particular Saturday night, he carried something deeper than notes and melodies: he carried raw emotion.

Personally, the last time I witnessed young Vic perform live was during the 60th birthday of the Esit Eket local government Chairman, Mrs Uduak Ikott. When the MC introduced him to sing, his first tunes were birthday melodies. They were soft, sentimental, the kind of songs more rooted in feelings than theatrics.

But moments later, destiny took over the microphone.
The Esit Eket Chairman, moved by the boy’s courage, leaned over to the MC and pledged an additional ₦1 million to encourage him. The MC, sensing a moment of magic, challenged the boy to deliver a “one-million-naira song.” And he did.

In seconds, the hall erupted into a reggae arena. Chris Vic flowed effortlessly into timeless jams, “One Love, Let’s Get Together”, and other rhythmic pieces that got the entire hall on their feet. The boy danced. The audience danced. Even dignitaries who rarely moved at public functions swayed to his beat.
His charm was magnetic. So much so that the House Member for Esit Eket, Udobia Friday, swept up by the energy, offered another ₦500,000.

I remember jokingly whispering to the Chairman that I also want to take to the stage for my own million-naira moment which made her burst out in laughter. This goes on to show that talent can open doors that circumstances try to shut and Chris Vic’s keeps getting better.

Chris has challenged others in similar situations, others who end up on street corners, at traffic lights, with bandanas and bowls, appealing to the kindness of strangers. Coins. Small notes. Blessings shared for tokens received. He refused that fate. He did not allow his limitations or the limitations others expected of him to define him. Instead, he chose the path of courage, much like Bartimaeus in the Bible, who positioned himself where salvation could find him.

When Chris Vic heard that the government delegation would be attending the Akwa Ibom Unity Concert over the weekend, he made a bold decision to show up.
And because he showed up, destiny showed up for him, but this time around in a massive way.

Struck by his performance, Governor Umo Eno, a man whose administration has increasingly become known for empathy-driven interventions was touched to transform the young creative’s life.

Mind you, this is not the governor’s first act of compassion. He has built hundreds of compassionate homes across the state and even extended to the neighboring Cross River.

Also, he publicly mourned and supported a young Akwa Ibom makeup artist who died on set, while building a career. His leadership has continually shown a pattern of lifting ordinary people in extraordinary ways. How about the elderly woman he jumped out of his moving car to help while attending a church service in Itu? Or the millions he feeds periodically through his free food initiative for the poorest of the poor?

But Chris Vic’s story touched him differently. Moved by the boy’s courage, disability-defying creativity, and undeniable talent, Governor Eno announced a life-changing package: a plot of land in Uyo, a fully built 4-bedroom house, a world-class music studio funded at ₦100 million, and a monthly stipend of ₦1 million for the duration of his tenure.

This was not mere charity. This was investment in talent, potentials, and dignity. For Governor Eno, Chris Vic’s story should inspire not only people living with disabilities but every young person striving for greatness. It is also a statement of what governance should mean- humane, responsive, transformative.

In every generation, certain moments testify to the power of talent and how it can lift an individual from obscurity into national relevance. For Chris Vic, the Eket-born visually-impaired singer whose voice has graced both streets and stages, the weekend’s events in Akwa Ibom State became a turning point: a convergence of destiny, opportunity and benevolence.

What unfolded was more than entertainment. It became a story of hope, compassion, and the incredible things that happen when society chooses to recognize ability rather than disability.

As the second runner-up of the last Naija Talent Hunt Show, a platform that revealed his vocal depth and musical power, the young performer was no novice to the microphone. But that particular Saturday night, he carried something deeper than notes and melodies: he carried raw emotion.

Personally, the last time I witnessed young Vic perform live was during the 60th birthday of the Esit Eket local government Chairman, Mrs Uduak Ikott. When the MC introduced him to sing, his first tunes were birthday melodies. They were soft, sentimental, the kind of songs more rooted in feelings than theatrics.

But moments later, destiny took over the microphone.
The Esit Eket Chairman, moved by the boy’s courage, leaned over to the MC and pledged an additional ₦1 million to encourage him. The MC, sensing a moment of magic, challenged the boy to deliver a “one-million-naira song.” And he did.

In seconds, the hall erupted into a reggae arena. Chris Vic flowed effortlessly into timeless jams, “One Love, Let’s Get Together”, and other rhythmic pieces that got the entire hall on their feet. The boy danced. The audience danced. Even dignitaries who rarely moved at public functions swayed to his beat.
His charm was magnetic. So much so that the House Member for Esit Eket, Udobia Friday, swept up by the energy, offered another ₦500,000.

I remember jokingly whispering to the Chairman that I also want to take to the stage for my own million-naira moment which made her burst out in laughter. This goes on to show that talent can open doors that circumstances try to shut and Chris Vic’s keeps getting better.

Chris has challenged others in similar situations, others who end up on street corners, at traffic lights, with bandanas and bowls, appealing to the kindness of strangers. Coins. Small notes. Blessings shared for tokens received. He refused that fate. He did not allow his limitations or the limitations others expected of him to define him. Instead, he chose the path of courage, much like Bartimaeus in the Bible, who positioned himself where salvation could find him.

When Chris Vic heard that the government delegation would be attending the Akwa Ibom Unity Concert over the weekend, he made a bold decision to show up.
And because he showed up, destiny showed up for him, but this time around in a massive way.

Struck by his performance, Governor Umo Eno, a man whose administration has increasingly become known for empathy-driven interventions was touched to transform the young creative’s life.

Mind you, this is not the governor’s first act of compassion. He has built hundreds of compassionate homes across the state and even extended to the neighboring Cross River.

Also, he publicly mourned and supported a young Akwa Ibom makeup artist who died on set, while building a career. His leadership has continually shown a pattern of lifting ordinary people in extraordinary ways. How about the elderly woman he jumped out of his moving car to help while attending a church service in Itu? Or the millions he feeds periodically through his free food initiative for the poorest of the poor?

But Chris Vic’s story touched him differently. Moved by the boy’s courage, disability-defying creativity, and undeniable talent, Governor Eno announced a life-changing package: a plot of land in Uyo, a fully built 4-bedroom house, a world-class music studio funded at ₦100 million, and a monthly stipend of ₦1 million for the duration of his tenure.

This was not mere charity. This was investment in talent, potentials, and dignity. For Governor Eno, Chris Vic’s story should inspire not only people living with disabilities but every young person striving for greatness. It is also a statement of what governance should mean- humane, responsive, transformative.

…Says Akwa Ibom Proud of Gov Eno”s Accomplishments

The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has felicitated the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, on his conferment with the Distinguished Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during the Nigerian Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) held on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

In a message personally signed by the Minister and dated December 8, 2025, he described the honour done the Governor as a well-deserved national recognition of Pastor Eno’s visionary leadership and the transformative impact of the ARISE Agenda. He noted that the Governor has successfully translated sustainable development from policy into tangible progress, reaching even the most remote communities across Akwa Ibom State.

Rt. Hon. Ekpo highlighted the administration’s remarkable achievements in road infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, education, and the empowerment of small-scale enterprises through targeted grants and support programmes. He noted that these accomplishments reflect a government deeply attuned to the needs of its people and committed to inclusive growth.

The Minister expressed pride in Governor Eno’s achievements and joined the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State in celebrating the milestone, praying for continued wisdom, strength, and grace as the Governor advances the State’s development agenda.

Just a few days away from my traditional marriage ceremony, I feel compelled to express my sincere gratitude to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., for keeping one of his campaign promises: to create a good number of millionaires in Akwa Ibom State.

Lately, opposition voices in the state have questioned the existence of the millionaires the governor promised. While many have indeed become millionaires under the Umo Eno-led administration, the most recent example is Chris Vic, a visually‑impaired, talented, and creative son of Akwa Ibom State.

Yesterday, during the Akwa Ibom Unity Concert in Uyo, Chris Vic was scheduled to perform in front of the humanitarian‑driven governor of the state and other prominent personalities . Moved by compassion, Governor Eno immediately changed the story of the young artist. He gifted Chris Vic:

- a four‑bedroom flat,
- a monthly allowance of one million naira, and
- a state‑of‑the‑art studio worth 100 million naira to support his music career.

This generous gesture underscores the “Golden Governor’s” large‑heartedness and his intentional effort to improve the lives of Akwa Ibom citizens. It shows that our state is blessed with a leader whose compassion and empathy are truly extraordinary—a detribalized leader who consistently delivers impactful, people‑oriented governance.

Now that the governor has highlighted yet another of the many millionaires he has created, the opposition will likely raise new criticisms—perhaps even suggesting the video is AI‑generated. Such attacks are expected, but the people of Akwa Ibom will not be swayed by cheap blackmail or baseless allegations, because they know Governor Eno remains committed to delivering meaningful development at every level.

In a bid to improve road infrastructure and promote community welfare, Hensek Integrated Services has successfully completed a pothole repair project on Nwaniba Road, spanning from Nyong Essien to Five Star.

The initiative is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, aimed to enhance road safety and accessibility for residents and commuters.
