Politics / Group Fires OBA: Leave Governor Emmanuel out of your N204m Bribery Predicaments by Browndiary(m): 11:18pm On Nov 22, 2022
Senator Bassey Albert Akpan and his supporters have been warned to desist from further blackmail and smear campaigns against Governor Udom Emmanuel, over the current legal imbroglio of the Young Progressives Party’s gubernatorial candidate.

A major advocacy group, Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance in a reaction by its Chairman, Barr Stephen Abia, said it was unfair and uncharitable for the embattled senator to transfer blames of his travails to the doorsteps of Governor Emmanuel who neither originated the charges nor even knows of the facts of the case.

The group opined that to remotely or directly blame Governor Emmanuel for the probe of Bassey Akpan’s financial impropriety, was devilish, wicked and malicious.

“From investigations by our team of professionals, Governor Emmanuel was not in office as Governor, when the case of bribery and corruption against Bassey Albert Akpan commenced”, said Barr Stephen Abia.

“The case was purely on the heels of a probe of the infamous alleged slush funds against a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, where part of the funds where allegedly linked to a certain Jide Omokoro who confessed during investigation that he used the funds to bribe Senator Albert Akpan through car donations amounting to N204million to get contracts.

“For the avoidance of doubts, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested and detained Senator Akpan over cars that he had allegedly received as bribe from Jide Omokore while serving as Akwa Ibom Finance Commissioner and Chairman of the State Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee.

“Investigations show that the Omokore's companies – Bay Atlantic Energy and Sahel Energy – received contracts from the Senator Akpan’s InterMinisterial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee and the EFCC claimed the vehicles were used to bribe Akpan.

“We have discovered that it is only on the basis of jurisdiction that the case could not be decided a long time ago when the trial was conducted at Justice O.A. Taiwo presided Federal High Court in Lagos, hence the case was reassigned to the federal high court in Uyo in line with Senator Albert Akpan’s argument that the offense took place in Uyo.

“When he was testifying at the High Court, Senator Albert admitted receiving the car bribe from Omokaro and further brought some members of his campaign team as witnesses that they were given the contentious vehicles to campaign for Albert’s elections in 2015.

“Throughout the duration of this trial and till this moment, there is no record that the Akwa Ibom State government was a party in the case, nor can it be said that Governor Emmanuel or any of his appointees had testified in the case. It is therefore worrisome that Senator Bassey Albert would come out to castigate the Governor for a sin he allegedly committed when Governor Emmanuel had not assumed office”, the group enthused.

According to Barr Stephen Abia, himself an indigene of Ibiono Ibom local government where Bassey Albert also hails from, the people of Ibiono Ibom have disassociated themselves from the corruption allegations against their son, and are also ready to remain in support of the transparent leadership of Governor Emmanuel, which has brought about monumental feats in the State since 2015.

Judgement on the case is expected to come up on Friday this week at the Federal High Court in Uyo.

The Police boss promised that the police, as usual, is ready to thrill Nigerians again with the display of world-class sports talents.

Politics / 2023: Fear Grips Bassey Albert’s Supporters, As Court Sacks Akan Udofia, Akpabio by Browndiary(m): 10:10am On Nov 15, 2022
…JUDGEMENT ON OBA’S ELIGIBILITY SUIT EXPECTED SOON

Palpable fear has rocked the camped of Governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, following strings of legal gymnastics that have characterized the last few days in Akwa Ibom.

While Akan Udofia who was parading as theAPC Governorship candidate was shown the exit door, Senator Godwill Akpabio was red carded and urged to be delisted by INEC as a candidate.

Both were seen as late comers to the circus, with Akan Udofia earlier contesting as aspirant of the PDP while Akpabio was on the primary ballot as a presidential aspirant of the APC.

Their case which is now history, is seen to be similar with that of Senator Bassey Albert of the Young Progressives Congress who was earlier an aspirant of the PDP in the same election process.

A lawyer Alexander Asuquo had gone to the federal high court in Uyo, challenging the eligibility of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan to fly the Young Progressives Party’s YPP Governorship ticket.

Nyeneime Andy and YPP (The 1st and 2nd Defendants) were represented by C. N. Wigwe and E. N. Akpabio while Senator Bassey Albert ( 3rd Defendant) was represented by five (5) lawyers led by Ime Asanga, Esq.

The Plaintiff who gave evidence that the 2nd Defendant, Dr Nyeneime Andy used his position as the state chairman of the party to block him from participating in the nomination process tendered eleven (11) exhibits before the Court.

The Court was informed that Dr. Nyeneime Andy insisted on him building a party secretariat in his local government area before he could be allowed to purchase Governorship nomination form.

When it was time for Dr. Andy to testify, he admitted on cross examination that he contested the primary while still the chairman of the party without resigning.

When asked whether he can validly take part in a primary without resignation, he said the constitution of the party permits him to do so.

When asked to show which part of the constitution of the party allows him to do, Andy began to sweat in the witness box and looked at his lawyers for help.

Dr. Andy's lawyer's objection to the question was overruled by the Court which insisted that he must answer the question.

The Court cautioned Apostle Andy's lawyer from unnecessary interruption of the proceedings with irrelevant objections while Apostle Andy fretted in the witness box because he could not find any such provisions in the party’s constitution.

Also, when asked at what point he decided to join the guber race, he told the Court that it was sometime in March 2022.

Asked when he realized that he was no longer interested in the race, he said he realized that he has no money to continue in the contest and decided to voluntarily withdraw from the race.

It could be recalled that he had during the declaration of Sen. Bassey Albert informed the public that his withdrawal for OBA was because the senator had previously withdrawn for others.

This contradicts his evidence before the Court and goes a long way to reveal that the game plan had always been to reserve the ticket for OBA.

Sen. Bassey Albert was conspicuously absent as his testimony was given by the state secretary of state party, Mr. Kelvin Umoh.

During cross examination, the witness however admitted that everything he said before the court are hearsay as he is not Bassey Albert who is sued as a 3rd Defendant in the Court.

The Court thereafter adjourned the matter to 19th September 2022 for adoption of final written addresses.

Several of his supporters who were in court have expressed fear that the case could stop the Senator after he had previously failed to secure the ticket in PDP.

A federal High Court sitting in Uyo,the Akwa Ibom State capital, Monday anuled the Governorship primary of the party purportedly conducted on the 26 MAY.

The court presided by Justice Agatha Okeke in her ruling, declared null and void the process that threw up Akan Udofia as Governorship candidate of the Apc and ordered the party to conduct a fresh party primary election within 14 days from the day of judgement.

The Letter of waiver issued to Akan Udofia was rejected by the court, while all preliminary objections against Ita Enang were dismissed by the court

Meanwhile, the Appeal Court in Abuja has affirmed DIG Udom Ekpoudom as the authentic APC candidate for Ikot-Ekpene Senatorial District in the forthcoming election. The court delivered the ruling, Monday.

The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to delist Godswill Akpabio's name from it's data, as he was not the authentic winner of the primary election conducted by the party.

Similarly, the court ordered INEC to upload Ekpoudom's candidature in seven days on the database.

Politics / AKAN OKONvsUMO ENO: Did we Fail as Journalists? by Browndiary(m): 2:20pm On Nov 13, 2022
By Imoh Etimudo

Politics enjoys a perch on the painted wall blackmail. The cheer, the grouse and grumble from the gamble by Mr Akan Okon all boil down to one fact: Pastor Umo Eno is inching closer to Hilltop Mansion as the number one occupier in 2023. In one of Pastor Umo Eno's interview with journalists, he was asked his experience in politics so far. He answered by saying, "I used to be surprised by some of the things they write about me. When I get worried, people will tell me not to be bordered that it is politics. I studied political science but I was never taught that politics is about telling lies against others."

Politicians are good lecturers of bad politics. They wield brush of black tar targeting men in immaculate white of political background. They are professionals in splashing dirt, and pass it with the baptismal name, "politics". It is more expected from a man still panting from the throes of defeat in his goose chase and still struggling to swallow prescribed bitter political pills. As a left-wing ideologue, incurable optimist and short-sighted historian, the road to infamy is the most attractive to him, and he walks and tumbles with excitement.

In his own politics, anything is possible. He belongs to the brand of politicians who throw away shoes of caution and walk barefooted into his room of broken bottles. He is the politician that breaks out of his shell for the wrong reasons and want to find his way to the shelf of prominence feigning good reasons. And whenever he wants to embark on this dangerous journey, firing blank, he sees the journalists as waiting drivers.

When journalists convey smuggled goods to ostensibly safe locations under any guise, they turn journalism into a minefield. If politics is the art of the possible, journalism should be the art to know the impossible, to know what to publish and what to leave out when in doubt. No good journalist believes the story of too much traffic in the skies except he confirms it by discreet investigation. Otherwise, the trash can is also an item in the newsroom, except the journalist also had interest in the story he hastily and happily published. There is no room for hatred and sentiment in journalism practice!

By the judgement of the Federal High Court, Uyo in the case of alleged falsification of documents between the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Pastor Umo Eno and erstwhile governorship aspirant, Mr Akan Okon, journalism failed in its critical responsibilities, and journalists also contributed in misinforming the public that Pastor Umo Eno's WAEC results were forged.

For a clime that prides itself to parade new breed apostles of investigative journalists, none could go extra miles to find out whether what Mr Akan Okon presented to undo Pastor Umo Eno was genuine, but what was paramount was to get it published! We all missed a golden opportunity to become heroes. Sort of one-sided investigative journalism! What does it take to reach the skies to confirm how many aircrafts are held by traffic? Journalists would have made the job of the judge easier.

It was the founder of Gazette de France, Theopraste Renaudot who said: "In one thing only will I yield to nobody - I mean in my endeavour to get at the truth." Granted, journalists do not make news. Journalists do not manufacture facts. They are totally dependent on other people for their news stories. But journalists have a sacred responsibility to save a world whose extinction is threatened by falsehood.

Journalists should reach out for the truth, or its more ascertainable cousin, fact, in the morass of falsehood, deliberate disinformation and the avalanche of propaganda especially during politics and not helping to clinically execute what politicians consciously planned against their opponents like Mr Akan Okon did against Pastor Umo Eno in the name of politics.

To achieve this, journalists must starve laziness, incompetence and bias while applying moderation on competition and uncooked scoop, and be very conscious of the fact that to be the first to publish a piece of news is both romantic and dangerous. Truth is a journalist's most loyal friend. Making it a casualty is betrayal of the highest order. That is a challenge for journalism for all ages!

The good thing is that a journalist is always smart enough to make others take the blame for their professional "sins" of being subverted certain weaknesses inherent in the profession of journalism. But one may not be as lucky all the time!

Even if a pastor comes to tell you that there is too much traffic in the skies, enter your own flight to go and confirm before you publish same as news. He might be more interested in making you a victim of plane crash who never boarded a flight, since you are a fan of fantasy! If publishing truth is journalism's badge of honour, hoaxes stain that badge. Remember, the only innocent disseminator known to law is the vendor. The journalist is on a frolic of his own.

The truth is, experiment in every State in Nigeria, no matter who is in the laboratory, will show that Akwa Ibom is the great hope of Nigeria. That is why Akwa Ibom State cannot slide back into dark days of full scale terror, and get mired in the limbo of stagnation. That would have been an unmitigated disaster.

That is why the support for the gold rush of the "golden boy " is the modern equivalent of the rush into Noah's Ark. There could not have been a better way to treat a man who has been sentenced by the court - sentenced to victory at the polls! It is victory foretold for Pastor Umo Eno and the PDP family! No matter how loud the drum of blackmail beats, the song at the background is "Victory Ahead!" And the black drum beats below the voice! It is the refrain on every lips of Akwa Ibom people, now beautifully turning the political campaigns for Pastor Umo Eno into a movement!

Earlier in a brief testimonial about his Late mother, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan extolled the lofty virtues of the late Matim Simon Akpan - a woman whom he said was a model in strength, character and godly principles.

"Our dear mother was an epitome of strength and a complete representation of who a good mother must be. I must say that when you look at how her children have turned out, even when she raised all of them alone after our father, her dear husband had departed, you will realize that she did an excellent job in that regard. Since her demise, she has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill."

Politics / Senate Zoning in Eket Sen. District is Sacrosanct - Gov. Udom Emmanuel Reaffirms by Browndiary(m): 7:48pm On Nov 09, 2022
...says Ekong Sampson is right

...as Umo Eno receives flag, gives deep insights to leadership.

By Samuel Udoma

Gov. Udom Emmanuel has reaffirmed that the zoning of the senate seat among federal constituencies in Eket Senatorial District remains sacrosanct. Gov. Emmanuel, who hails from Onna Local Government and is the highest political officer holder in Eket Senatorial District, stated this yesterday during the Governorship Campaign Flag-Off/Declaration by Pastor Umo Eno held at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.

Addressing the mammoth crowd of party men and women who thronged the Nest of Champions to witness as Pastor Umo Eno, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state declared, Gov. Emmanuel said on the senate seat zoning:

"In Eket Senatorial District, we respect zoning, we started from Ikot Abasi-two terms, from there to Eket federal constituency-two terms and then Oron federal constituency- two terms.

When the Party leaders in the State and in the National approached me, asking that as a right, I should take the ticket for my senatorial district, I told them that I am a man of integrity and I cannot go against the decision of elders of my senatorial district. I told them that zoning favours Ikot Abasi federal constituency and I am not from there. I also told them that my people will support me by voting for a candidate from Ikot Abasi federal constituency and that candidate is Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson", the State Chief Executive reaffirmed strongly.

The Governor described Dr. Ekong Sampson as the right choice for the Senatorial District, and drummed support for Pastor Umo Eno as well as all other candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming polls.

Meanwhile, it was pomp, excitement and celebrations at the Nest of Champions as Pastor Umo Eno unveiled his master plan. The former Lands and Housing Commissioner, flanked by wife, Patience and his Deputy designate and current Senator for Akwa Ibom South, Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, spoke passionately about his 'Arise Agenda' for the state, offering deep leadership insights.

Pastor Umo Eno said he will work extra hard to repay the huge confidence and support he has received so far in his governorship bid.
'This is my contract with you my dear Akwa Ibomites, and on my honour and with the help of God. I will work to make our state the perpetuity capital of Nigeria. The best years of Akwa Ibom State are not in the past, they are in the future: we have had a beautiful silver past, may God lead us to a golden future', the guber hopeful said assuredly, drawing loud applause from the stands.

He said his ARISE Agenda has a clear cut vision to build on the gains of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration and ensured sustainable continuity.

Recall, that elders of Eket Senatorial District had met and upheld that the 2023 senate seat goes to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency and Mkpat Enin Local Government Area in particular. Dr. Ekong Sampson, who holds the PDP flag in the senate race hails from Mkpat Enin, where he is a household name.

The Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin parades a rich political resumé which sets him apart in the race. He had cut his political teeth as a Chief Legislative Aide to the legendary Senator Udoma Udo Udoma in the senate. From there, he went on to become Council Chairman of Mkpat Enin for two terms, House of Assembly Member also for two terms. He was appointed into the State Executive Council by Gov. Udom Emmanuel, where he served for five years in a number of strategic ministries, the last of them being Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources. Sampson also, was at a time, Special Adviser, Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs to the Governor.

Ekong Sampson's stint as Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum in the state is instructive. Eket Senatorial District is an oil rich entity and oil politics is central and critical to the people of the area. Supporters and stakeholders in Eket Senatorial District have often quoted Dr. Sampson's legal background and his understanding of the workings of oil politics as a masterstroke in his aspiration. Many who are backing him believe, with his background in the oil and gas sector, he will use it to an advantage for the district as a senator.

Politics / Kinsmen Disown Ephraim Inyang, Route for PDP, Zoning by Browndiary(m): 7:51pm On Nov 06, 2022
By Ray Nde

Stakeholders from Oniong West have distanced themselves from the political voyage of their kinsman, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, describing it as a disregard to morality and good conscience.

At a well attended meeting over the weekend at Ikot Ebiere, Onna local government area, they resolved that since 1999,the area has always played played PDP and was not ready to be led astray by emergency politicians.

Describing the senatorial ambition of the former Chief of Staff to the Governor as a self seeking ambition of a particular individual, they vowed to stand by the existing zoning to uphold fairness and equity in the allocation of political values and privileges in the senatorial district.

Politics / ECO-TOURISM: A'ibom To Host Africa Regional Office Of ICLEI, 10,000 Capacity Int by Browndiary(m): 3:24pm On Nov 02, 2022
By Mfonobong Ukpong

Based on the state's sustained cleanliness performance ratings, coupled with its global acknowledgement as a safe haven for investments, a UN partner organization, the International Council for Local Environmental Inititives' ICLEI, based in the Northern America region, Canada has selected Akwa Ibom to host a 'permanent Africa Regional Office building complex' and a 10,000 capacity International Conference Centre to be sited in Uyo, the state capital.

This was disclosed by the African Regional Co-ordinator of ICLEI, Prince Ene Baba Owoh, Jr.

ICLEI is an umbrella body of over 2500 local and regional organizations committed to sustainable environmental development worldwide that enjoys permanent diplomatic status as United Nations partner organization.

A statement endorsed by the Administrative Secretary, Africa Regional Office of ICLEI, Nancy Jones, indicates that process leading to the project location began in May 2022 in Maimo, Sweden during the ICLEI World Congress where resolution 08/22 was passed and Uyo City in Akwa Ibom, South-South Nigeria was chosen in a unanimous decision by the world body amongst cities like Cape Town, South Africa, and Kigali, Rwanda from the three nominated countries as best suitable location for permanent regional office of ICLEI, Africa regional complex, as well as an international conference centre.

It is projected that the envisaged project would add value to Akwa Ibom State, and country, Nigerian, as both facilities, according to organization, will be playing host to the annual Africa Regional Conference; and expected to attract over 1250 towns/cities, countries and member organizations to the state with the potential for securing hosting rights for the ICLEI World Congress.

The statement adds that the project execution will embrace local participation of indigenous companies and skills, thereby promoting ecotourism and boosting the revenue base of Akwa Ibom, and Nigeria. This is in addition to showcasing the cultural heritage of the people.

EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT 2023: THAT UNFORTUNATE DISPLAY OF IGNORANCE BY MR EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN

Following the successful conclusion of the PDP Senatorial rally in Eket Senatorial District last weekend, a dismissed former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen attempted to cause a stir in a newspaper interview where he cried foul over an overwhelming decision by the people of Eket Senatorial District to zone the Senatorial seat to Ikot-Abasi Federal Constituency. In that interview he granted a national newspaper, he alleged that there has never been anything like zoning in Eket Senatorial District simply because his Man Friday, Senator Bassey Albert did not win the gubernatorial ticket of PDP. He also alleged that zoning is dead in Eket Senatorial District because the Presidential ticket was won by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. What manner of haughtiness!

What the YPP man fails to understand is the fact that Akwa Ibom South (Eket)Senatorial District is bigger than a single individual and not even an arrogant or loquacious politician with zero regards to the elders and traditional institution in the district, can blackmail the entire district to dance to his dictates. The PDP national leadership left the race for the presidential ticket opened to all because of the peculiarities in the country and Atiku Abubakar emerged. The party zoned the governorship seat in Akwa Ibom to Uyo Senatorial District, Pastor Umo Eno won. The party also zoned the Senatorial Seat for Eket to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency and Barr Ekong Sampson won, what is so difficult to understand there?

While Akparawa Ephraim Inyang cannot deny that he was at the special meeting of stakeholders and leaders of the senatorial district earlier this year, where the unanimous decision zoning the senatorial seat for 2023 goes to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency was reached, he cannot also deny that his avid disposition to lawlessness and disregard to people’s sensitivity add another feather to his blossoming hat of arrogance. Once that decision on zoning was reached, every politician from other federal constituencies in the senatorial district, including the serving member of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Pat Ifon, opted to back out of the race. No reasonable person defies the collective decision of his people.

Apart from exposing his ignorance as a newcomer in the politics of Eket Senatorial District, the scruffy unwarranted outburst against the previous senators in the senatorial district shows how much disconnected from reality, Chief Ephraim Inyang has been. Nobody in his right frame of mind can challenge the noble efforts of former First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Helen Esuene and the incumbent Senator Akon Eyakenyi who have both performed so creditably well in human capacity development and social welfare schemes in the district. Not to even mention the legendary Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, whose great Red Chamber antecedents are still herald in the Senate till date. These are definitely not the same people Ephraim would glibly slam in his bid to score cheap political points.

It is high time someone made Ephraim to understand the fact that the business of making good laws and representing one’s people far outweigh rascality and bullying, which are intrinsic traits of dictators and non democratic elements whose last assignments in public space ended in shameful disengagement.

Eket Senatorial District has spoken clearly that it needs a highly cerebral, mature and well lettered representative in the Red Chambers, Eket Senatorial District needs a representative with a calm disposition to speak for, and listen to the people of the district. Eket Senatorial District needs a man who has been found worthy in the legislature at both the grassroot and State level to connect the dots, and be the voice that would champion a cause that would be beneficial to the entire Eket Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State as a whole. Eket Senatorial District needs someone who has never been sacked or disgraced out of a previous public office.

The people have spoken, and that decision stands. It is now the turn of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to produce the next Senator for Eket Senatorial District and that person is Rt. Hon. (Barr.)Ekong Sampson, who has served meritoriously, receiving a pat on the back in all his precious duty posts.

Speaking earlier in the day, the Chairman of the session and Proprietor of Topfaith Schools, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham remarked that the workshop was timely and called for greater efforts to get ISSN and ISBN numbers for indigenous works and other cultural publications. NOW THAT THE AKWA IBOM PDP CAMPAIGN MACHINE IS SET TO ROAR TO VICTORY.

The machine is revving its engine, set for action which starts soon with the flag-off of campaign. Considering the quality of members of the council and committees, we are confident that the machine is about to roar to victory.

We give all glory to God. We thank God for the successful inauguration and for the successes we have recorded since the transition programme of Governor Udom Emmanuel began early this year.

We appreciate Governor Udom Emmanuel for personally performing the inauguration and for his words of wisdom, prayer and admonition this evening. We are also grateful to him for his direction and support right from the start of the transition programme.

We promise him that we will give our all and not rest on our oars till victory is achieved in the elections. Above all, we will not be shaken in our belief in God as he has advised.

To other political parties contesting the elections, we assure of an issue-based campaign as the Governor has admonished. Our campaign will be devoid of calumny, vitriol, mudslinging and violence. We urge our opponents to reciprocate same.

To Akwa Ibom people, we thank them for keeping faith with the PDP since 1999 and particularly in the last seven years of the Udom Emmanuel Administration.

Moreover, we are appreciative of the support our people have given all PDP candidates, most notably our standard bearer, Pastor Umo Eno, so far. And we appeal to them to sustain the support till we triumph in the elections.

In doing so, we encourage our people to take heed of the statement this evening by our widely-acknowledged performing Governor, when he said "He that is coming after me, is greater than me." What the Governor means is that the state's development will quadruple under the Golden Boy, Pastor Umo Eno from the height he has taken it.

Politics / Construction Of Olympic-sized Swimming Pool Begins At Uyo Township Stadium by Browndiary(m): 8:50am On Oct 17, 2022
Governor Udom Emmanuel has kept to his promise as construction has begun on the first ever Olympic-sized swimming pool in Akwa Ibom state.

The sporting facility geared towards encouraging athletes in the state to excel in swimming exercises, is located at the Uyo Township stadium, currently undergoing remodeling.

Construction work began on Saturday morning with the excavation of the entire swimming pool perimeter and continued into Sunday. Heavy equipments and engineers were on site to ensure a speedy execution of the project.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Uko who was on site on both days said he was carrying out that the directive of Governor Udom Emmanuel who instructed that the swimming pool and the Uyo Township Stadium remodeling exercise be completed urgently.

According to Sir Monday Uko, the 13th biennial Police Games will be held in Akwa Ibom State from 20th November, 2022 and the pool is expected to be ready for the games as engineers are working to deliver a standard facility.

The construction engineers who hail from Akwa Ibom gave an overview of the specifications of the facilities to be constructed and expressed satisfaction at the level of cooperation and support provided them by the government for the completion of the project.

Engr. Bassey who spoke on behalf of other engineers said, “for a complete construction of a swimming pool, the electrical, structural, and mechanical engineers will be present for the work to be professionally handled.

The accepted standard for an Olympic-sized swimming pool is 50 meters by 25 meters. As engineers, we have come in, every necessary test will be done right from the soil to the concrete to the steel. The design is out and it is going to be wonderful when it is finished.

“Now, we will have to incorporate other areas of recreation and buildings that will help the facility to work very well.

“This directive comes from His Excellency through my boss, and I assure you, it will be delivered as all hands will be on deck.”
Politics / A'ibom: Politicizing The Killings Of Guber Candidate's Aides, Unthinkable by Browndiary(m): 8:40am On Oct 17, 2022
A senior Priest of the African Church in Akwa Ibom State, Reverend Richard Peters has described as unimaginable and height of irresponsibility for anyone to speculate that the killing of two Aides of the Governorship candidate of the Young Peoples Party YPP in the state, Senator Bassey Akpan was politically motivated.

It could be recalled that the Senator's Aides were killed by Unknown Gunmen in Imo State when they went to bring campaign vehicles, Senator Ifeanyi Uba distributed to all the state branches of the party.

Fielding questions from callers during a phone in programme in Uyo over the weekend, the Cleric who sympathized with the deceased families warned political gladiators against cashing into the unfortunate situation to blackmail any person or the government.

Peters who is also the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Media while speaking on the campaigns flagg off for the 2023 general elections urged the people to shun blackmail, propaganda, hate speech and violence against people who do not share same political ideology with them

He also urged them to leverage on the peaceful atmosphere the governor, Mr Emmanuel had created in the state to go about their campaigns.

His words "it is ridiculous for somebody to come up with the notion that the killing of the two Aides by unknown gunmen in Imo State has anything to do with Akwa Ibom politics. It is not everything that we should attach politics to, though everything goes during campaign period like this.

"My advice to politicians is; as we are already into campaigns for 2023 general elections, they should uphold the political culture of non violence which the governor has established in the state and shun blackmail propaganda hate speech especially against those who do not share same political ideology with them."

Peters who further advised politicians to borrow a leaf from the peaceful disposition of the governor in politicking recalled how he(governor Emmanuel) was able to quell the storm in 2019 war song of "warsaw saw war" in the state and the threat of "Federal Might" through his calm and focused nature on issues that have to do with the state.

"Since the inception of this administration in 2015, it has never been recorded that any person who vied for political office was killed or the family members killed, victimized, tortured or even threatened.

"Then in 2019, we all were here when the sound of "Warsaw saw war" was hitting, the alleged Federal might threat, hilux and walking sticks purchased accross the state? despite all the intimidations, the governor was calm, the only thing he said was that Akwa Ibom people will resist any attempt to jeopardize the interest, safety and peace in the state, and he came out victorious.

"The governor has allowed the democratic principles to come to play, we are very much hopeful that political opponents and gladiators should take the advantage of this peaceful disposition of the governor and call their supporters to remain peaceful in their dealings for the overall interest of the state." The cleric noted.

Politics / Oba’s Admittance Of N204m Bribe: A Speed Lane To Jail by Browndiary(m): 5:21pm On Jul 18, 2022
By Elder Emmanuel Udosen (FUEL)

"How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places. I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!"
2 Samuel 1:25‭-‬27 (KJV)

The current political events in Akwa Ibom State is reminiscent of the bible account of the fall of Jonathan, David's bosom friend and ally. It is the reality of the non-infallibility of mankind, no matter how highly placed. There is no man God created that He cannot bring to his knees. How could the long lingering prosecution and travails of one of Akwa Ibom finest reach its climax at a time he would have ascended the height of his popularity in the state polity? How could the devil (or God) wait to disgrace a man at the time he nearly would have crystalized into a demi god? How could an allegation of 2012 hibernate to spring up with overloaded venom in 2022, (exactly 10 years later)?
Had Obong Bassey Albert been convicted many years ago, his fall would have been mitigated by the pity his travail would have evoked among the ordinary Akwa Ibom citizen. The people would have jointly said he is being persecuted because he failed to join the APC to launder his past like Godswill Akpabio and others. But alas, he meandered his way through and postponed the evil day till what would have been a ripple turned into a storm. Who, or what is ambushing this man. Let's hope nemesis is not lurking around his person.

"Omokore is my friend, but I didn't know his companies got Akwa Ibom State Government contracts", ...
"Yes I collected cars worth N204m from Omokore but didn't know he gave me in exchange for an inflated contract my ministry awarded to him"....
"No, I didn't know my those under me awarded inflated contract to Mr. Omokore even though I was the Head of the Inter ministerial Direct Labour Coodinating Committee";... bla bla bla.

Who will help me explain to this superman that he has unwittingly reversed his plea of "not guilty" to being "guilty as charged"?

In advance climes, a smart defence Attorney will immediately switch into Plea Bargain to grant the accused person a soft landing. No, in Nigeria, an eleventh hour miracle will happen and the court will change bearing and discharge the accused.

Why are the lawyers called Counsel, if not to understand when to throw in the towel and counsel his client on how to lessen his punishment and still have something left of his dignity (if any)?

If the feelers received from some unconfirmed quarters is reliable, the accused is planning to feign health breakdown and skip the next court day for a breathing space in a hospital overseas from where my "smart" brother will bid farewell to Nigeria until the "wicked Herod" is dead.

The consequence of this ploy is that the surety will forfeit the bail bond to the state while my friend will cool off under political asylum somewhere within the globe.

The surety himself is uncomfortable with this ploy as it will surely paint him in bad light and may result in a few days incarceration before the process settles down. The court too is not ignorant of these tendencies and is awaiting any signal in that direction to cancel the bail and issue a bench warrant.

The Option B which was the foremost calculation before now was to wait for the conviction, take an appeal, get sworn in as governor of Akwa Ibom state, and plead executive immunity for eight years. That was why he refused to enter his defence and had to be foreclosed. This option, however, has become the most remote option now as his chances of becoming the governor; no, not in YPP or anywhere else is closing to O.

The next escape route is the option to challenge the court's jurisdiction which the law says it can be raised at any stage of the trial. How so?
A recent Supreme Court judgment has pronounced that the EFCC, being a Federal agency, has no powers to investigate and prosecute suspects with allegations of meddlesomeness over State fund. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how this new plans will avail our "illustrious" son and let him off the hook.

But as of today, the reality of a jail term is becoming realistically realistic.

Politics / As Akan Okon Commences Legal Gymnastics Against Pastor Umo Eno’s Ticket by Browndiary(m): 9:05am On Jul 18, 2022
Fresh from last weekend’s smashing victory over challengers of the Arise Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the legal team of PDP are back in court today to begin the process of retiring another political adventurer, Akan Ekpe Okon.

Before the judgment delivered by Justice Obiora Egwatu on the ‘Friday Iwok and 30 others vs INEC, PDP, Adhoc Delegates’ case, infamously nicknamed “Status Quo Ante Bellum”, was completed, a serving senator, Bassey Albert had jumped from aboard the ship of peace and prosperity, to a sea of uncertainty and oblivion. Leaving his teaming supporters, including those he sent to the court, to be dumbfounded and confused.

This morning, Monday, July 18, in Uyo, the Federal High court doors are being flung opened as another defeated aspirant who polled a paltry 3 votes in the 2022 Governorship primaries of the PDP, Mr Akan Ekpe Okon, drags the eventual winner, Pastor Umo Eno that scored 993 votes, to the dock on allegations of forgery and lack of qualification.

I have battled so hard, refusing to buy into that speculation that a professional like Mr Akan Okon, who has been a certified banker, and subsequently a Commissioner in the State Executive Council for nine years, could be driven by fake prophecies, that he will be the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Currently, his hirelings are all over the social media ranting that their principal will be on the PDP ballot. “The prophet has prophesied that our boss will indeed be sworn in as the governor of the State.”

Obviously it was this false conviction that drove the former commissioner for Economic Development, to rush down to court for a legal battle on mere assumption that his former executive council colleague does not possess senior secondary school certificate. Whatever can make a man rush to court to challenge another’s credentials before even dashing to Ghana to verify his damning allegations, is beyond the ordinary.

As I am writing this piece, I am baffled to read from one of his submissions that because two school certificates have the names, Eno Umo Bassey and Bassey Umo Eno, it is reasonably suspected that they belong to different people and may have only been issued to, signed, collected and used by one person for about forty years without the true owner of the other copy protesting to the issuing body or complaining of his missing certificate.

So Mr Akan Okon wants people to buy into his assumption that Umo Bassey Eno who applied for verification of result from WAEC is different from Eno Umo Bassey whose name appears on the certificate. Or he wants the court to believe that the original certificate that had Victory High School and the one recently sent from the examination body, with Victory High School 1 are different and that the the previous one was forged because there was no ‘1’ attached to it? Has he not seen so many who were in the University of Cross River State, but today are called alumni of the University of Uyo?

Let us not forget that Akan Okon had in his originating summons, alleged that Pastor Umo Eno had not met the minimum qualifications to be a Governor, and that PDP ought to have disqualify him since the documents he paraded where forged and not authentic WAEC certificates; and that he himself should be declared Akwa Ibom governorship candidate after polling three out of over 1018 votes.

Akan also alleged that it was impossible for anyone writing Examinations in 1981 to have the kind of examination number Pastor Umo Eno had, forcing some of us to wonder where some numbers were not in existence as at that time. When indeed the result confirmation came from the issuing body, the petitioner immediately came up with another argument that there is a slash ‘/‘ sign in the number written on the confirmation letter. This foolish argument that there is a ‘/‘ sign in the recent authentication sent by WAEC, is akin Akon to saying that the phone number, +234-8039529*** is different from 2348039529***.

Now that Akan Okon’s prophet(ess) has allegedly told him to go to court because the documents Pastor Umo Eno is using belongs to a different person, and are no longer forged, has she told him the authentic owner of the documents?

With the court room doors now thrown wide open, we may as well begin countdown to an end of this legal gymnastics by political adventurers.

If the choice of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno by Akwa Ibom people as their governor in 2023 is widely seen as a delicious cake with the ingredients of peace and prosperity, then the icing on the cake has come with the well thought out choice of Senator Dr Akon Eyakenyi as the running mate and potential Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Eyakenyi stands out as one leader Akwa Ibom State has tested in different capacities, across administrations. In all her stations of life, she has added verifiable value to the growth and development of the society, diligently climbing the rungs of leadership and administration with distinction and creativity.

This is what Akwa Ibom State deserves, and this is what Akwa Ibom State has got as the leadership to Pastor Umo Eno. It is a perfect blend of experience, management skills, goodwill and passion for the continuous development of the state.

Her bag of experience is thick and loveably intimidating. She set sail from the harbour as a teacher where she was trained at the Teacher's Training College, Oron and stunningly rose to the pinnacle of professional, academic and political careers.
A stickler for knowledge and excellence, she has mopped all available knowledge with a thirsty sponge climaxing in the University of Cross River State and later University of Uyo where she earned the prestigious doctoral degree.

She has occupied various political appointments where one excellent performance preceded and gave rise to the other. That topnotch leadership performance beautifully hunted her, as the saying goes, the reward for hardwork is more work.
She was Member in the State Secondary Education Board, and was later appointed Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. She did exceedingly well. At different points, she became Chairman, Technical Schools Board, Chairman, Governing Council, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic which was preceded by a golden performance as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
If those were appointments, she was later to contest and defeat an incumbent as the Senator Representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, an office she will complete in June, 2023.

At least, four civilian administrations in Akwa Ibom State have engaged the services of Dr Eyakenyi, and she has never been found wanting.

Such is the luggage of experience the grassroots politician, mobilizer, philanthropist and above all political stabilizer is bringing in as the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State upon swearing in in 2023. She is vast in civil and public service and will complement the magic of private sector experience of her boss, Pastor Umo Eno when they eventually assume office.

Her choice as the Deputy Governor also underscores the gender balance praxis as operated in Akwa Ibom State. The women has a worthy ambassador in her as the number two citizen of Akwa Ibom State, which shows clearly that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is exceptional in gender balance. This is also a box ticked right in the equity question of the tripod upon which Akwa Ibom State stands. It is not just that she is from Eket Senatorial District but specifically from the Oro nation. Welcome on board, the best choice for Akwa Ibom State. Umo/Akon ticket means more than an election for Akwa Ibom State. It is raising a banner of peace and prosperity without blemish.

Politics / UMO ENO: Making A Difference By Blurring The Differences by Browndiary(m): 7:28pm On Jun 06, 2022
By Hero Akpata

Governance is ideally about the people and everything that means progress for them. Nevertheless, some representatives of the people have turned the opportunity to provide leadership into a tool for division and social dislocation for political subjugation in a bid to further unaltruistic aims. In such instances, they incite the people against themselves and expose where their diversities are buried, causing them to identify themselves primarily along the lines of clannish considerations and other micro sentiments.

The people should never be made to use where their leaders come from as the key measurement in their political choices. Where leaders come from is not the issue. The big question instead should always be where a leader will take them to. Their collective destination as a people and as a society. This patterned identification of 'he's not our own' or 'it should be our own' creates a divisive environment to divert attention from the common demands and aspirations of the people. These demands then become secondary considerations or sometimes, fly out of sight and reasoning.

But, time and time again, liberal testimonies have been thrown up to suggest that the best condition that supports the progress of any people is their unity of purpose. A people bound together by a common regressive condition must perpetually reflect on the causes of their tribulations and setbacks. They must think and consider different sides of their governmental and societal hiccups that continue to afflict their chances of new-fangled evolution.

No reasonable person with adequate amount of concern, skills and capabilities should disregard the loads of problems that surround him as a result of a systemic disappointments. Those who peddle the unreasonable justification with the motive to limit the participation of reasonable and distinguished people are the real enemies of the people. Pastor Umo Eno has chosen to confront these aspects of governance, representation decadence and social regression in Akwa Ibom. He has chosen to confront ignorance with reason. He has chosen to bridge the gap of diversity designed as a strategy by an unscrupulous gang to marginalize and withhold unity and progress from the people.

He has chosen to accede to the demands of the people for a steady stream of inventions and sustainable amenities. He is a man with the good intention to heal the wounds and insist on oneness. This has been his lifelong political and social philosophy. A philosophy duly acknowledged and appreciated by many that have come in contact with him. He has continued to be a political product that continues to tend to the needs of the people of Akwa Ibom. He is the person Akwa Ibomites are very enthusiastic to see as governor in 2023.

What the people of Akwa Ibom need for sustenance of peace and security is to still follow the prescriptions of Umo Eno and continue to co-exist as one, with a strong purpose to dislodge all forms of divisive juggernauts. They must continue to bear witnesses to the constellate force of Pastor Eno because when the people of Akwa Ibom, as well as from all corners gather around him, he considers nothing more than their happiness. Where they come from and the sizes of their challenges or ideas does not faze him. So, let Umo Eno serve his people with more of the same workable procedure that has taken him from being a lowly ranked barracks boy to being an internationally recognized orchestrator of refinement and betterment.

Politics / PDP PRIMARIES: Cluster Interpretations Of Legalism And Jurisprudence by Browndiary(m): 1:53pm On May 27, 2022
By Otobong Sampson

The legal fireworks that have surrounded the recently held nominations for candidates to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State in the 2023 general elections have been described as a normal expectation that will continue to dominate political processes in Nigeria until the country's democratic culture fully matures.

The assertion was made by the PDP senate candidate, Eket Senatorial District, for next next year's general election, Dr. Ekong Sampson.
Speaking in Uyo shortly after his victory, the former commissioner remarked that the ongoing litigations were not unexpected considering Nigeria's political history since 1999. He was however optimistic that internal disagreements and disputes in the party will be resolved as the party has proved its ability and capacity over the time to accommodate differing interests.
In his words, 'politically, we are at a point where cluster interpretations of legalism and jurisprudence are only to be expected. What is important is that as a family, we must hold the ground and win the game', he opined.

Dr. Sampson, a lawyer, journalist, poet and businessman is also a former state lawmaker whose moments in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have always received rave reviews by his former colleagues and Akwa Ibom people in general.

Similarly, the PDP senate candidate has commended the aspirants who contested against him for their 'healthy engagements' all through the process. 'I nearby extend invitation to them to join hands and support our great party to maintain the victory run that the PDP is known for in Akwa Ibom State', he pleaded.

Dr. Sampson saluted the 'exemplary sense of sacrifice and patriotism of the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, noting that these ensured the senate contest was 'opened to competition in the first place'.

He acknowledged the huge roles of his Campaigns Director, Sir Michael Essang, and thanked the electors of the District for making an 'emphatic statement' that ensured his emergence.

Politics / Court has not Cancelled Akwa Ibom Ward Adhoc Delegates Congress by Browndiary(m): 3:35pm On May 18, 2022
It has come to our knowledge, some tissues of falsehood being peddled by some mischievous elements, alleging that the April 30, 2022 PDP Ward Ad hoc delegates congress duly held in Akwa Ibom State, has been cancelled by a Federal High Court in Abuja. This is highly laughable and smacks of the kicks of a dying horse.

We wish to state categorically that no such judgement has been delivered. On the contrary, the parties in the matter filed counter affidavits in court today. The Learned Paul Usoro, SAN, who represented the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, filed a Counter Affidavit Opposing the Originating Summons and Counter Affidavit opposing the Motion for Interlocutory Injunction, while Barr Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN also filed a Motion for Joinder of the 987 Adhoc Delegates elected at the Ward Congresses conducted by the PDP in all the 329 Wards in Akwa Ibom State.

The matter was thereafter adjourned till May 25,2022 for substantive hearing, with Team Bassey Albert losing its last effort gasp to stop the use of the Adhoc delegates list of 987 PDP faithful who will vote in the party primaries for the aspirants of their choice in the House of Assembly, National Assembly and Governorship races.

Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance is aware that the soaring profile of Pastor Umo ENO has sent shivers down the spines of the enemies of the Peace and Progress of our dear State, who have vowed to stop at nothing to truncate this peace.

The Alliance wishes to advise faithful of the PDP to discountenance the fabrications of OBA and his co-travelers who have already seen defeat starring them in the face, and want to drag others down with them.

Politics / A'ibom PDP Primaries: OBA Loses As Court Okays Adhoc Delegates Right To Vote by Browndiary(m): 12:38pm On May 18, 2022
Efforts by Senator Bassey Albert to stop the usage of the April 30, 2022 Adhoc delegates congress list for the PDP Congresses in Akwa Ibom State fell flat on Wednesday as the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the status quo be maintained while adjourning the case to Wednesday, May 25, 2022 for hearing.

When the case Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/606/2022- RT. HON. FRIDAY IWOK &ORS V. INEC & Anor, came up for hearing on Wednesday, Ahmed Raji, SAN, represented the Plaintiffs while PDP and the 987 adhoc delegates were represented by Paul Usoro, SAN and Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN.

While Paul Usoro, SAN, filed a Counter Affidavit Opposing the Originating Summons and Counter Affidavit opposing the Motion for Interlocutory Injunction, former Akwa Ibom State Attorney General, Uwemedimo Nwoko SAN filed Motion for Joinder of the 987 Adhoc Delegates elected on the 30/4/2022 at Ward Congresses conducted by the PDP in all the 329 Wards in Akwa Ibom State.

In it's ruling, the Court directed that the Status Quo be maintained. This means the legality of both the Statutory and Ad-hoc delegates list remains as it were before the suit was filed until the substantive issues are heard and adjourned the case till Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 for hearing.

With this latest court pronouncement, both Statutory and Ad-hoc delegates will vote in the House of Assembly primary on May 21, 2022, House of Representatives primary on May 22, 2022, Senatorial primary on May 23 and the May 25, 2022 governorship primary before departing to Abuja for the National Convention billed for Saturday, May 28 and Sunday May 29, 2022 where the PDP presidential candidate will be elected.

Politics / Alleged Electoral Fraud: Prof. Uduk's Lawyer Plans To Abandon Case by Browndiary(m): 7:28am On May 18, 2022
If the recent absence of Prof Uduk in court is anything to come buy, indications are that the defence lawyer, Abasidiong Ekpeyong is planning to prevent the prevalence of justice by frustrating the conclusion of the trial, having exhausted and exploited all available legal tactics at his disposal.

All clues point to the assumption that he connived with his client not to appeal in court at the next adjourned date of 18th Wednesday where he will be expected to open his defence in the trial that has been delayed by the defence team unwilling to open his defence for a period of five months.

It will be recalled that INEC's prosecution counsel had closed its case since on the 27th of January after calling five witnesses some of whom the defence lawyer could not cross examined and had tendered several documentary evidences to prove the criminal attempt to up-turn the North West senatorial election in the 2019 election.

The no case submission filed, had been Dismissed at the on the 23rd of April sitting by the erudite Justice Bassey Nkanang for lacking merit.

At the last court sitting, the defence lawyer tested the waters when he deliberately failed to come to court with the defendant, Professor lgnatius Uduk who ought to be in court at every court sitting, given that the case is a criminal trial.

That the defendant will always be in court was one of the conditions for the bail granted him that he will make himself available throughout the duration of the trial. But at the last court sitting, the accused initially was not in court when the case was called and the matter had to be stood down for professor Uduk to be brought to the court.

It would be recalled that the professor was compelled to appear in court only after a bench warrant was issued by the court for his arrest after evading Court summons and was hiding in Abuja.

The reluctant defence lawyer pleaded to be given more time and asked for any date in the month of June but the court order for both counsel to choose a date within the next ten days.

Even though the defence counsel's dairy was free within the period, yet he refused and when both counsel could not agree on a day, the court fixed on the 18th of May for the defence to open his case and matter adjourned.

The defence lawyer and the accused may not appear in court on Wednesday as being contemplated and this may lead to the revocation of the bail earlier granted professor Uduk by the court or in the alternative, he will appear but his lawyer will not come to court to avoid opening his defence and thus compel the court to adjourn the matter again to frustrate the case.

The people of Akwa lbom state and Nigerians are waiting the outcome of this case whether the justice Bassey Nkanang will courageously do justice and it will be served timely and irrespective of position in status of the parties before the court.

Politics / Senate Aspirant Seeks Re-evaluation Of Laws Against Oil Producing Communities by Browndiary(m): 4:43pm On May 17, 2022
By BASSEY ANTHONY -(The Nation Newspaper), Uyo

An aspirant for Akwa Ibom South(Eket) senatorial district, Dr. Ekong Sampson is seeking a reevaluation of laws which are inimical to the interest of oil-bearing communities in the country.

Speaking with the Nation in Uyo recently, Sampson, a one-time commissioner for environment and petroleum resources, said that the Petroleum Industry Act(PIA) and the Water Resources Bill among other legislations, need to be looked at again.

He said that the PIA, for instance, is fraught with weaknesses, which rather than help to redress the sufferings of oil communities, has worsened them.

Ekong said if voted to the Senate he will lead campaigns against retrogressive legislations which erode the rights of oil communities.

He added that such legislations have also made the international oil companies(IOCs) to shy away from their responsibilities and obligations to their host communities.

His words, "We should not be campaigning on sentiments but on issues on how do we can drive legislations in a way that protects the rights of our people in Eket Senatorial district.

"Let's look at the PIA and form a vanguard against some laws that seem to take away the rights of our people. As a legislator if you sleep, they will pass a law that completely finishes your people.

"We need to make the communities come together to protect their rights and we need to get the big players to be alive to their responsibilities, and we need to firm up our laws. The Petroleum Industry Act needs to be looked at closely.

"Does that law really solve the problems of host communities ? Is it a ready instrument for divide and rule instead of succuor to oil producing communities?

"I want to be in the senate as an active player using the dynamics of law to drive the interest of my people. We need to have profound engagements on some of these legislations".

Sampson maintained that he was in the Senate race for Akwa Ibom South(Eket) district because he is favoured by zoning, capacity and experience.

"I'm running because zoning favors me, experience favors me and capacity favors me too. zoning makes for inclusiveness.

"I was officially presented as the preferred aspirant by my people. I have the experience a good part of me was in law making; lawmaking is a major component of democracy. Nigeria will be a safer place to operate if the operators grasp the rudiments of law making and policies", he said.

Politics / A'ibom PDP, Committed Partners In Nigeria's "Rescue Mission" - State Chairman by Browndiary(m): 7:15am On May 17, 2022
... As Presidential Aspirants Atiku, Hayatu-Deen, Meet A'Ibom Delegates

Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan , has stated that the party in Akwa Ibom is ready and committed to contribute significantly to the collective mission of rescuing Nigeria from the suffocating grip of ineffective leadership, a task he says is a patriotic call at this time.

Speaking in Uyo, Rt. Hon. Akpan reiterated the resolve of the party in Akwa Ibom to work for Nigeria's rescue mission, explaining that as a state that has not enjoyed reasonable benefits from the federal government, Akwa Ibom will massively work towards entrenching PDP led administration at the center in order to restore the country to its deserving glory.

Welcoming two presidential aspirants of the party, Mr Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who visited seperately for a consultative engagement with national delegates of PDP in Akwa Ibom, Akpan, noted that "as a family, the party in the state aligns with the collective mission of taking back Nigeria from the hands of those who have misled the resources of the country."

The Akwa Ibom State PDP boss said " To demonstrate our commitment as willing and committed partners to the patriotic duty of rescuing Nigeria from the pangs of bad leadership, Akwa Ibom State has graciously donated our best visionary, prudent manager of resources, and thoroughbred economist, Governor Udom Emmanuel to Nigerians as the best fit for the job of leading this nation at this time"

On his part, Nigeria's former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, while addressing national delegates from Akwa Ibom State, shared his vision for Nigeria, noting that Nigerians will not forgive PDP if the party does not lead the rescue mission through the polls by 2023.

"This country is not where PDP left it in 2015. Many the great economic feats of Nigeria were achieved with PDP led administration at the center, but look where are are now as a country. It is pertinent that we take up the task of rescuing Nigeria", he said.

Similarly, the Borno-born Chairman of the Renaissance Development Forum and astute banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, while addressing national delegates of the party in Akwa Ibom, expressed delight on the warm reception by the party in the state, sharing his blueprint which he noted is a proposal to fix Nigeria.

According to the former Managing Director of FSB Intentional Bank, "Nigeria must be fixed and we come with the simple agenda to fix this country. PDP is ready to take over and this rescue mission concerns every one of us."

Politics / 2023: OBA’S Desperate Onslaught against The People’s Preferred by Browndiary(m): 10:17am On May 16, 2022
"A man of desperation is a heartless man that is a slave to reckless fury;He must be avoided like a plague"
The above lines by Lexon Max clearly defines the underlined misfortune looming the unguided desperation of Bassey Albert as he seeks to become Akwa Ibom state governor by all means in 2023. Having been around this planet for over 3 decades, I have never seen a man so desperate for power like OBA without any convincing reason why the people should queue behind his aspiration, and this is a serious concern to Akwa Ibom people as to what he really wants.

The danger there is that one can hardly hit the target he doesn't see. It is the height of wickedness to attempt to play pranks with the lives and destinies of over 5 million Akwa Ibom people because of the lack definite vision and goals. This is the main reason why people still see OBA'S aspiration as a joke of the century.

From the moment Pst. Umo Eno joined the race and people who knew his pedigree engaged in a massive exodus to queue behind him, OBA and his men immediately lost sleep and appetite for food and peace. Reasons for this confusion are not farfetched as they have realized their incompetence and unmatchable personality to contest against Umo Eno. Truth is, marketable products do not need too much bragging and sweating to make sales.

OBA has been in power for 14 years and still counting, yet, he cannot point to one tangible thing he has done in Ibiono Ibom or one person he has put in the board of NNPC or any board as chairman upstream. He had the chance to prove his mettle as a leader, but failed because of greed, selfishness and desire to amass all the wealth in this world to himself. Today, karma has come after him.

In a desperate move to stop Umo Eno, they have written petitions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the screening panel. They have sponsored write-ups against the state governor and Pst. Umo Eno, but the people are still unperturbed. The more the attack, the stronger the support base of Umo Eno, and this has sent a clear signal as to the direction of the pendulum of victory to OBA and his men.

Now, they are using Ephraim Inyang, Friday Iwok and other desperate politicians to put injunction on the most credible ward Congress conducted. All these are machinations from OBA to divert the people's attention and distract the people from supporting a noble cause.

However, the main concern is why going berserk just to grab power? What is really his aim for the seat. Till date, he has not been able to define why he wants to become the governor, except for flimsy reason that it is the turn of his federal constituency to produce a Governor. This is laughable.

Akwa Ibom people should be wary of a man who does not know where he is going. Supporting him is just like entering a speed boat on a high sea that doesn't have fuel. The disaster is very obvious.

Like the popular saying by Nigerians, "follow who know road". Pst. Umo Eno knows the road. He knows clearly where Akwa Ibom will be in the next 4 years, and this is leadership. He knows the road to entrepreneurial development, agricultural renaissance, economic growth and sustainability, youth empowerment, sport development, women emancipation and empowerment, and above all, godly leadership. He is a man of class and humility, and should be supported by all and sundry. Pst. Umo Eno is the best man for the job.

[img][/img]…FAIL TO SECURE INJUNCTION AGAINST PDP WARD DELEGATES

An attempt by Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, through his cronies, Mr Friday Iwok, Ephraim Inyang, Okon Osung, Emem Akpabio, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, Andrew Uwanta, Uduot Jack and others to obtain an ex parte injunction at the Federal High Court, Abuja, against the 987 winners of Ward Congress held on April 30, 2022 has failed.

None of the 987 winners of the Ward Congress was joined in the matter.

His Lordship, Justice Egwuatu, sitting in Court No. 9, delivering a ruling on the ex parte motion moved by Ahmed Raji, SAN refused the application.

He ordered petitioners to put the parties on notice and adjourned the matter to May 18,2022 for the hearing of the motion on notice.

Senator Albert and his cronies systematically boycotted the successive congresses in the State and chose to sneak to Abuja to file a petition

Reacting, a lawyer Barr Samuel David said “Trying to get an order through the backdoor is a fraud.A practice direction has been issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, so it's no longer business as usual.”

He maintained in a post on the social media that, “The court has directed that parties be put on notice, so it becomes an interlocutory application.”
