Politics / "Not All Bad Roads Belong To FG, Most Bad Roads Belong To States" - Zainab Ahmed by brownnikky16(f): 5:58am On Nov 15, 2019
The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed has told Nigerians that not all bad roads in their state are the responsiblity of the Federal Government.

Zainab who spoke to newsmen after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday November 13, stated that some roads are the responsibility of the state and local governments.

Though admitting the FG has not done enough to address the infrastuctural decay, she added that some financial instruments have been accessed by the Nigerian government to fix some collapsing roads.

“I also want to remind you that for the past two years, we have issued Sukuk bonds. In 2017, it was for the construction of 25 roads. In 2018, 23 roads and there is also another one that is being processed.

“We have a lot of roads in the country, but not every road you see is the responsibility of the federal government. The major arterial roads are the ones that are the responsibility of the federal government.

“Majority of the roads in the country are within the purview and responsibility of states as well as local governments.

“Have we done enough? No, not yet, that is why we are trying to do more including raising special funds to make sure that roads and other infrastructure are being addressed," the minister said.

Zainab further disclosed that the Ministry of Works has gotten most of the money in the annual budget presented by the Buhari-led administration.

“Our fiscal space is tight, resources are limited but at the time we have funds to release, the highest proportion goes to power, transport, works and housing. Also, we have introduced some measures that have seen private sector participants getting involved in road construction.

“One of these measures is the Road Infrastructure Task Credit Scheme that Mr President approved by executive order earlier this year. So far, we have 17 companies that are carrying out 19 roads across the six geo-political zones," Zainab added.

Politics / We Will Monitor Bayelsa Governorship Election Closely - U.S by brownnikky16(f): 8:09am On Nov 14, 2019
The United States says it will monitor the governorship election in Bayelsa state closely, and would consider consequences for violators of electoral rules.

This was made known by Claire Pierangelo, US consul general in Nigeria, during a press briefing in Lagos, on Wednesday.

Pierangelo said, “We are going to consider what consequences we are going to impose. As friend of Nigeria and its people, we will follow the election closely. We will be out there in the field observing the election,” she said.

“I am aware that many other foreign, international organizations will also be on the ground in Bayelsa. We will work closely with our colleagues and partners in the international community to promote a credible process that will benefit the people of Bayelsa.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled the gubernatorial election in both Bayelsa and Kogi states for November 16th.

The consul general therefore urged INEC to operate “free from outside pressure and intimidation and in a totally objective manner.”

“Voter intimidation, vote buying, interference by security forces, and violence cannot be tolerated. The professional conduct of all stakeholders – especially security forces – is crucial for free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful elections,” she said.

“The Nigerian security services must provide a safe, secure, and impartial environment for the people of Bayelsa to exercise their right to vote. Political actors, political parties, bloggers and other influencers must not engage in hate speech or incite violence. People who engage in such conduct must be held accountable.

“I encourage all eligible voters in Bayelsa to participate in the upcoming election and exercise their political franchise. A large turnout will enhance the credibility of the election and Nigeria’s democratic reputation. I would especially ask that every effort be made to boost the participation of women, youth and people living with disabilities.”

Reno Omokri has replied the Indimi family after they attacked him over the comment he made referring to their family earlier today.

This morning, Reno called out their family and other wealthy Northern families after billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, donated N5 billion to Save the Children Fund. The money is expected to be used for the upkeep of impoverished children in Katsina, Adamawa and Borno state.

In his post, Reno opined that many of the wealthy families in the North, the Indimis inclusive, are only known for flaunting private jets and getting married to chilldren of presidents instead of using their wealth to better the lot of children in the region.

The Indimis in their response, asked Reno to take it up with God if he is mad that they are getting married to important persons. They also asked Reno to list his achievements asides him being an ex-presidential aide.

Below is Reno's response to them:

Dear Indimi Family,

I saw your post attacking me. You shouldn’t see my criticism of your obscene display of wealth in the midst of the extreme poverty surrounding you as hate, neither should you see my opposition to your powerful in law, General Buhari, as bitterness. That is rather petty. Opposition is a vital part of democracy, and I am not asking you to do what I have not done. I hate to do this. I would prefer to keep it private. But since you challenge me, please find attached a picture of an orphanage I built with my hard earned money to house orphans from Borno IDP. Yet, I am not from Borno. I have also travelled to 36 countries so far in 2019, campaigning for #FreeLeahSharibu, a native of Borno, where you come from. I don’t have one percent of one percent of your wealth. You can’t be flaunting private jets and spending hundreds of millions when you are surrounded by the worst poverty on planet Earth and expect not to get called out! There are millions of internally displaced people in Borno. If indeed you guys are doing something, we will see it via the IDPs. Shut me up by making a difference to their lives! #TableShaker

39 Years Old Nigerian Blogger, Linda Ikeji appears to look way older than her age in recent photos taken at the DJ Cuppy gold gala yesterday. The blogger who claimed to be 39 years old looks more closer to the 50 years mark despite putting on heavy makeup and grooming.

We do believe that Linda Ikeji is 39 years old, however she is not accounting well for all her billions, we only see designer handbags, massive cloths closet and private jet trips, but her body looks very old, we hope she invest some of those money into good food so that she can look her age and not as old as she is currently looking.

Linda posts photos on social media, however this photo will appear to show that she heavily edit her photos before sharing online.

Crime / Kogi Guber: Thugs Attack SDP State Secretariat, Destroy Properties (photos) by brownnikky16(f): 8:22am On Nov 11, 2019
Suspected political thugs alleged to be working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sunday, launched an attack on the state secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lokoja.

It was gathered that windows and doors of the Secretariat were shattered, while banners, posters and other campaign materials at the Secretariat were destroyed and replaced with the posters of the candidate of APC, governor Yahaya Bello.

The party had earlier alleged that there is an ongoing plan by the ruling party to attack the convoy of the SDP candidate, Barr Natasha Akpoti and assassinate her, adding that the unfolding event has affirmed the allegation.
The SDP governorship candidate Barr Natasha Akpoti condemned the attack on Sunday.

She wrote on her Facebook page: “Dear Yahaya Bello,

“Upon hearing about my coming into Kogi state for campaign, you sent APC thugs to vandalize SDP office in Lokoja; destroy by billboard, tear posters and post yours around our office. May I remind you that;

“Although you are the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, you are still the chief executive officer of Kogi state and the constitutional oath you swore, it’s your responsibility to ensure safety of lives and properties.

“You can destroy my posters but you can’t wipe away my image in the minds of our people.

“You are misrepresenting the image of APC national and their nationwide followers. In the spirit of democracy, we come in peace.”
Speaking further on the attack, the spokesperson to Natasha/Khalid campaign organization, Mr. Joel Odaudu Minister said it was unfortunate that Kogi APC had resorted to violence and gestapo style to win at all costs.

“APC is already destroying SDP campaign materials in Lokoja and the SDP state Secretariat in Lokoja has been attacked by APC thugs. All these are indications to prove their planned attacks”, he said.

Odaudu called on the APC to play politics according to democratic tenets, advising the public not to be intimidated by the violent approach of APC, adding that a vote for Natasha Akpoti will end the reign of terror in Kogi State.

Efforts to speak with the spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, APC, proved abortive as of the time of filing report.

Politics / We Will Arrest Masquerades Causing Accidents, Congestion — FRSC by brownnikky16(f): 8:24pm On Nov 07, 2019
The Federal Road Safety Commission has said that it would arrest masquerades causing traffic congestion or accidents during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Mr Kehinde Adeleye, Zonal Commanding Officer RS5 Benin City, said this during its Ember months campaign in Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday.

Adeleye said there were cases in the past when masquerades engaged in acts which resulted in traffic crashes and inconvenience.

According to him, this is a season of masquerades and there were times when they cause accidents in the past.

“This time we may have to impound such masquerades,” he said.

Adeleye, who represented Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC Corps Marshal, warned motorists against flouting traffic rules and embarking on night journeys.

He thanked the government of Anambra for its support of the FRSC and restated the commitment of the corps to ensuring safe motoring environment in the state.

In his address, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander in Anambra, said the FRSC was ready to ensure safe motoring environment in the state.

Kumapayi said the command had already identified strategic routes in the state and deployed personnel to effectively check such areas.

The campaign was declared open by Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.

Crime / Woman Breaks Into Ex’s Home With Machete And Forced Him To Have Sex by brownnikky16(f): 2:48pm On Nov 07, 2019
A 20 year old woman, Samantha Mears, who broke into her ex-boyfriend's home and forced him to have sex at knifepoint has been sentenced 20 years in a mental health facility.

According to reports, Mears, then 19, had entered her ex-partner's home while he was out. When he returned he found her inside armed with a machete.
She ordered him to remove his clothes and get on the bed. She removed her pants, crawled on top of him, and then forced him to engage in sexual intercourse.

He later told authorities he did not feel he could escape without being hurt by Mears, who bit him on the arm. Afterwards, Mears remained sitting on the bed armed with the knife and argued with him.

Court documents say she ripped decor off the wall and intentionally urinated on his bed.

Previous reports said the man eventually managed to ring the police by pretending to call a friend as he and Mears rowed.
He was able to slowly back out of the room until police arrived.

She was charged with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated burglary, assault with a weapon, and unlawful restraint.

Politics / 3 Months Imprisonment For Social Media Offenders - Bill Passes First Reading by brownnikky16(f): 11:51am On Nov 06, 2019
Senate reintroduces bill to regulate social media — with 3 years imprisonment for ‘offenders’

A bill seeking to regulate social media in the country has passed first reading at the senate.

The bill entitled, ‘protection from internet falsehood and manipulations bill, 2019’ is sponsored by Mohammed Sani Musa, senator representing Niger east.

The proposed legislation was one of the 11 bills read for the first time on Tuesday.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the sponsor of the bill said Nigeria needs the legislation because it would protect its “fragile unity”.

“There has never been a time when Nigeria has been very fragile in terms of its unity than this period,” Musa said.

“It is not to stop people from going into the internet to do whatever they feel legitimately is okay to do but what we felt is wrong is for you to use the medium to document information that you know is false, just because you want to achieve your desirable interest.”

He said the bill proposes a punishment of N150,000 fine or three years imprisonment for any offender.

“If it is a corporate organisation that refused to block that false information despite the fact that they have been alerted by authorities not to disseminate that information for public interest and they still go ahead and do it, refusing to do that blockage will be penalised between N5 million to N10 million for those organisations,” the senator said.

“For example, MTN, Glo, 9 mobile etc. which we use their platform in transmitting these information, if nothing is done, we fine them and you will see that it will be a deterrent to others.”

In the previous senate, there was a similar bill sponsored by Bala Na’Allah, then deputy majority leader.

But the bill was withdrawn after outrage by some Nigerians.

Recently, Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, said the federal government was working on sanitising the social media.
