I'm not a techie so, i'm just asking. I'll have checked out the other offers on Nairaland, but most of them would have been sold out.

Jerie. I will be frank with you. You can probably get a laptop in nigeria for 75-80k. However based on my sources and the current rate of the Naira I can only provide you an entry level laptop at that price.

The HP530 currently retails for approx $600 here in the US. You can see that in the below URL :-

Based on the exchange rate of =N=140:$1 that is already =N=84,000 say purchased here in the US. However you will probably find it available in Nigeria for =N=85,000 (or less ) - LOL. Dont ask me how that is possible but if you look hard enough you will find it.

Long and short is I am unable to match some of the current prices of these laptops. In any event if you find a laptop (or other item) online (that is on the major online US retailers websites) that is not available locally (or you have a custom config you desire) I can offer you a very good deal for importing it into Nigeria based on the base price for which it is sold here (int he US).

The price for the original battery with part number 440704-001 from HP is approx $138.65 after tax + US $11.25 shipping or approx $150. Shipping to Lagos will likely cost another $50 i.e. $200 total.

As long as you produce the original purchase receipt HP will honour the warranty in Nigeria even if you buy it form the US. The US warranty for pavillons will be honoured by reddington.

#benez6 I think you need to factor in the cost of doing business to some of the prices you see out there. However you may find it locally for half the price - at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

So while there are some sellers of replacement batteries out there (which is not a bad thing as long as they are clearly marked as such), the original batteries are also available - sometimes even at a lower cost!. This one is available at approximately $34 with US shipping. The bottom line is you always need to know exactly what you are buying (and who you are buying it from).

My picture is an authentic alright - but for a replacement battery not an original as I earlier pointed out. . It may look like the old original one but tiger direct clearly states on their site that it is a replacement battery!. so in that wise it is unambiguously not an original.

It is really big of you to take the high road and offer an apology (and you have my utter respect for that) - but there really is nothing to apologize about.

I am sorry I have been unable to provide a definite solution but I thought trying the non original batteries may be fraught with disappointment. Perhaps someone on nairaland might have this type of device? How about the store you purchased it from? Is there a chance they can hook you up with someone else who has it?

Do you think you can find anyone else who has a similar device so you can borrow their power module/batteries long enough to recover your important data?. I dont think the compatible or replacement batteries are worth the risk.

There are 2 issues here :-

1. Replacement or compatible batteries are a very high risk purchase. In all likelihood they will not work and if at all they work they will only work reliably  for a very short period of time. At least that has been the repeated experience of a lot of people with these batteries.  I am sorry but I am not willing to accept the risk the batteries will fail

2. These are relatively unknown suppliers (to me that is ). For safety and financial security I only purchase items directly  from major online retailers and will only make the exception under the right circumstances to buy from a suspect or relatively smaller store after spending some time doing  due diligence -  to see what other customers are saying about them. This is very important in situations where there is something wrong with the item purchased. Unfortunately in this case the verdict will still be out on the jury until you receive the item in Nigeria 3-4 weeks later at which time there will be limited recourse for recovery.

Awful. Absolutely the worst customer service available. How these people can sleep at night taking money from merchants is beyond me. No phone number to call. Emails rarely get answered and if they do it's 2-3-4 days later. Expensive. We got tired of them and their arrogance and canceled. Shopzilla is much better and responds to calls and emails.

Those parts are no longer available in the HP parts store since the product has been discontinued. And I did not turn up any sources for the original HP parts - perhaps I havent looked well enough. Post the links to online sources you have found ,

Note that some of these sites have only "replacement" batteries and not the original. More often than not this is not an option. always best to go with the original. Anyhow I will see what I can find but if you already have results, please post them here.

When push comes to shove this is not about being right or winning. But about everyone making rapid progress and sometimes this will happen on the back of other peoples errors(if they are gracious enough to reveal those errors that is). Not only were you frustrated about the problems you faced with the batteries, you were as well overly concerned (enough to speak out) that someone else could unduly face the same challenges. Kudos to you for that.

Hmmm. I will be quick to point out my ignorance on this one. The image I posted was in fact for a "replacement" battery while I thought it was for an original on sale by tigerdirect.com which I didnt realize at the time. You can see that yourself here :-

So the verdict is you are right pcguru or um nokiaguru much as I hate to admit this you were right all along.

As I earlier stated I didnt spend a lot of time researching the battery prices so I would have caught that if there were any serious takers of my offer.

Replacement batteries are never up to smuff - and are most likely to come back to bite you in the most awkward place!. In a lot of cases they wont even fit properly talk less of power the target devices effectively.

Anyhow my offer to ship [b]an original [/b]still stands I just need to make sure it is in fact an original that I ship.

The battery from my source is certainly an original available on US retail stores . (Hint check out a few images of the batteries available in major online US electronics retailers).

I am not going to enter into an argument about differences in photos(By the same token I can claim that yours is fake and mine original simply because of the difference in the printed image - LOL). Clearly there can be more than one image imprinted on original batteries - LOL
