I grew up with this slogan engraved on my mind"Work and pray". If we want a new and better Nigerian police then we better start thinking of mass protest against the men in black and be willing to resist corrupt tendencies individually and there after pray!!!!!!!!!. Heaven help only those who help themselves.

Politics / Nse Spends N186m On Rolex Watches In 2008 Under Madam Ndi Okereke by btlasisi(m): 4:45pm On Nov 10, 2010
The report on the investigation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) under the leadership of its former director general, Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, showed that in 2008, the Exchange spent N186 million to buy Rolex watches for long serving employees.

The yet-to-be officially released report, a product of investigations by KPMG, an audit firm, and Aluko Oyebode & Co., a legal firm, revealed that “at the beginning of 2008, the NSE expended the sum of N45 million in purchasing 64 Rolex watches for presentation to employees who had served the NSE for 10 years.”

The report also noted that “later in the same year, Candy Floss Limited (a company owned by Yinka Idowu, former head of NSE’s corporate affairs department), was given N95 million for an additional purchase of 91 Rolex watches, and subsequently, after the award ceremony, another 10 Rolex watches at the cost of N46 million were purchased.”

Meanwhile, the investigators said they observed that the award ceremony document showed that only 73 out of the 165 Rolex watches purchased were actually presented to the awardees, meaning that 92 Rolex watches valued at N99.5 million were unaccounted for.

“We further observed that the schedule containing the list of staff members eligible for long service awards only contains 63 names; suggesting that 10 additional and unauthorised people received presentations,” the report added.

Car gifts

Furthermore, Candy Floss Limited, according to the report, was given N100 million to purchase 14 cars to be presented to employees who had served the NSE for 25 to 30 years.

At the same time, the report said that three cars purchased by the NSE in January and March 2008 for N59 million - one Land Cruiser purchased for N30 million, and two Lexus cars purchased for N29 million -were written off the NSE books at the end of the same year by their allocation to the Long Service Award account, as part of the gifts given during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the award ceremony document showed that only seven people were presented with cars, compared to the 14 cars which were to be purchased by Candy Floss Limited and the three additional cars written off; meaning that 10 cars, valued at approximately N66 million, were unaccounted for.

The auditors also revealed that “although Candy Floss Limited was given the sum of N50 million for the special presentation to employees who had worked with the NSE for 25 to 30 years, another sum of N55 million was again disbursed in respect of the special presentation, which was to include a luxurious jeep and a special gift of the former director general’s choice.

“This suggests that there was a duplication of payment and a double purchase of a luxury car for the former director general’s choice,” the auditors said.

Further investigations

While the fact that Articles 52 of the NSE Employee Handbook for Management and Senior Staff, as well as Article 55 of the Employee Handbook for Junior Staff limits the value of gifts/cash that can be given to employees for the long service award, the auditors said, “We observed that the gifts awarded/presented far exceeded the value stated in these handbooks, “adding that “these Articles further stated that these awards should be presented to only members of staff, but we observed that former members of staff were also given awards.”

However, the auditors said further investigations to be carried out in respect of the award will determine if any payments were made by Candy Floss Limited to the accounts of NSE officers, including that of Mrs. Okereke-Onyuike.

# Thank you Admiral Porbeni. You have shown the true statemanship in you and it is well appreciated. The overzealous goons acting out their brutality under the cover of your name should also be seriously reprimanded and sanctioned for their bestial acts. To Tekena, you’ve exhibited the gentleman in you by accepting the apology tendered and allowing all to be laid to rest. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

The update on the issue.

A former naval chief and ex-Minister of Transport, Admiral Festus Porbeni (retd.), has apologised to a man that was brutalised by some naval ratings guarding his house in Port Harcourt.

The victim, Mr. Takena Lawson, was beaten up by the ratings for allegedly parking his car in front of Porbeni’s house.

Lawson had threatened to go to court if the former naval chief and the Navy did not apologise for the pains he suffered as a result of the assault by the ratings.

But in a statement by the Media Consultant to the Admiralty Group of Companies, Mr. Sopiriye Jaja, and sent exclusively to SATURDAY PUNCH on Friday, Porbeni expressed regret over any embarrassment and bodily harm the incident might have caused Lawson.

The statement reads, “We apologise for any embarrassment that may have occurred in front of retired (Admiral Festus) Porbeni’s GRA resident in Port Harcourt involving Mr. (Tekena) Lawson and his (Porbeni’s) security detail.

“As an elder statesman in Nigeria, the admiral apologises for the bodily harm and embarrassment Mr. Lawson may have suffered. The admiral has since sent his representatives to Mr. Lawson and both parties have reconciled their differences.

“We thank Mr. Lawson for his understanding and we are glad to have started a new friendship that may be beneficial to both parties.”

Responding, Lawson maintained that he was not out to gain anything from the Navy. He insisted that he only wanted the security agents to bear in mind that their first function was to protect the lives of Nigerians.

He explained that he was satisfied with the apology and would no longer press for any redress in the court.

He noted that his experience in the hands of the security agents would not force him to leave the country, saying that his actions so far in the matter were only to forestall a repeat of such ugly incidents.

Boy, 16, despoils nine-year-old in mission house

The heart of man is desperately wicked.” This Biblical expression came to the fore once again recently as a 16-year-old boy (name withheld) defiled a nine-year-old school girl, who was on her way home from school in company with her friends at Adekile area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

That fateful Friday, Victoria, and two other friends, Mariam and Rukayat, dropped their school bags on their playing field as they played a ‘hide and seek’ game.

The children were enjoying their game until the suspect came like a wolf to attack them. But his approach did not suggest that he contemplated any evil. He took the girls’ bags and left for the mission house, where he lives with his mother and elder brother.

Since he was home alone, he was able to hatch his plan without any hindrance. The girls ran down to the suspect’s house, asking for their bags. The youngster insisted that one of them must come into the room to collect the bags.

But the girls would not play along easily. They insisted that he should bring out their bags so that they could go home. As the plea degenerated into confusion, the boy released two bags. But he still held Victoria’s bag.

The hapless young girl begged and prayed, but his assailant would not let go. She pleaded that her parents would be mad at her if she got home late, but all the pleas fell on the suspect’s deaf ears. At last, she obliged and went into the room with him.

It was already too late before help came her way. The desperate boy had his way as the girl struggled and writhed in pain. She was drenched with blood. Victoria was deflowered at a tender age of nine by the young despoiler. As she walked out of the mission house sobbing, a woman walked up to her. She recounted her story to the woman with tears rolling down her cheeks. The woman eventually took her home and broke the sad news to her parents.

Nothing could console the poor girl and her family. They reported the case at the Agugu Police Station and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further interrogation.

The doctor’s report indicated that the victim suffered some lacerations on her private part and her hymen was broken. The report reads, “Patient brought in by her parents. Hymen just broken – newly bleeding. There are areas of abrasions. She appeared dusty and anxious. Sticky substance found around her private part.”

The boy confessed that he lured the girl into the room in order to despoil her. He, however, said he could not penetrate the minor and therefore, ejaculated on her waist. He said, “It was the work of the devil; the devil used me.”

Jah Man:

@All,
I do not know what the poster wants to achieve but I go with the group that says "Religion has nothing to do with good governance".
I do not care who came to Lagos 1st, Islam or Chritianity.Let me make it clear to the people referring to the 5 SW guvnors installed by Obasanjo as 'christians' that they are committing a sacrilegous error. They were not christians and I pray they are now christians.Infact even the Igbos that call themselves christians are nothing but religious church-goers, their guvnors and politicians inclusive.
Christianity is not just 'another religion' but the 'only religion' and the only way of life approved by God. "For there is one God,and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus" -1Timothy 2:5.
Let me also inform you that a christian is someone who behaves like Christ and not someone whose place of worship is the church.Read Acts 11:26 and understand that the word 'christian' emanated from the fact that the early believers were behaving like Christ.

Let no one deceive himself again on this issue, anyday a christian, as in a christian rules this country,we all will see the difference.

I urge you all to leave religion and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour so you can begin the 'christian race'

God bless you.

Bro Jah man,

You missed it all. Go and do more research on those highlighted points and you will see that you are completely of the road.

Check your dictionary very well and see what is the meaning of religion. Christianity is not excluded from religion.

~Bluetooth:

Ethnicity carries more weight because it recognizes the language, history and culture of a particular tribe than religion.

I agree with  you, it does not only carry weight it explains why we practise the same religion in a variety of ways.
We use the same scripture books but interprete them differently.

Hausa Muslims/mosques vs Yoruba Muslims/mosques, Ibo churches/Christians vs Yoruba churches/Christians.

afam4eva:

If you were asked to choose just one. It's either your're a Christain or Igbo, Yoruba or Ifa worshipper, Hausa or Muslim. Which would you go for.

Why is it that Nigerians always fight for their ethnicities like rotation of presidency along ethnic lines. Why is no one clamouring for rotation along religious lines. Why is that most of Lagos governors are muslims and christains are not doing anything about it.

Why not ask your question and wait for peoples reaction or answers rather than biassing them along your reasoning line.

If you want constructive and sincere submission by people you must re-write your introduction.

The mother of a 13-year-old girl, in Ajangbadi, Lagos suburb, who was allegedly despoiled and tortured by a co-tenant, has cried out for justice.

She has particularly appealed to the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola and other concerned mothers to assist in ensuring that the suspect is prosecuted.
Cheta (other names withheld) was allegedly despoiled and a deep cut inflicted on her private part, which also affected her intestine.

According to the distraught mother, some of her daughter’s intestine were seen gushing out from her womanliness after the dastardly act. A medical doctor in a private hospital pushed the intestines back and stitched the private part, to stop excessive bleeding which according to her, lasted for two days.

The victim, who spoke of her ordeal in the hands of one the suspect, Chukwuemeka (other names withheld), narrated how she went to dispose of refuse, after her aunty she was living with had gone out before the unfortunate incident.

According to her, she was on her way to the refuse dump site when the suspect called her.
“As a co-tenant I regarded as an elder brother, I did not suspect he would hurt me,” she said
According to her, Emmy, as the suspect is fondly called, in the area, lured her into the flat where he lives quickly locked up the door.

“He pushed me down and used one of his hands to cover my mouth and held me to the ground.” He succeeded in removing my clothes but I vowed not to allow him have his way. I started struggling with him but he kept warning to kill me, if I did not succumb, but I resisted,” she said.

The victim, who sobbed as she spoke to Daily Sun, continued: “He has long nails. So, he used them to tear my womanliness. The nails penetrated inside me and it was as if he was using sharp razor blade to cut my private part. He did not have pity on me even when blood was gushing out from my womanliness. “The man was using his fingers as if he was frantically searching for a missing object. I almost died. And when he realised the magnitude of the damage he had done to me, he stood up.

It was when I stood up that I noticed that my intestine was gushing out. I thought I was going to die but I managed to go home to narrate my ordeal to people before I would die.” The victim’s mother, a single parent, told Daily Sun that she lived in Ikotun area of the metropolis, while her daughter lived with her younger sister at Ajamgbadi. She told how she was phoned and informed that her daughter had been rushed to a private hospital, after her encounter with the victim.

The angry woman, who simply identified herself as Madam Ify said she was devastated, when she saw the condition of her daughter. “ As a single mother, I knew that my world has collapsed. I tried to imagine the harrowing experience my daughter went through and the excruciating pains she went through during the attack. So, I rushed to the Ajamgbadi police station, where I reported the matter,” she said.

She disclosed that her life is now in danger after she reported the matter to the police. According to her, the suspect’s uncle and other members of his family had been threatening and intimidating her for reporting the case to the police. To her surprise also, her younger sister she was living with, had aligned with the suspect to blame her for reporting the matter to the police.

She alleged how she was beaten up at the hospital by the suspect’s relatives, which compelled the police to charge the matter to court. According to her, immediately the police charged the matter to court, Chukwuemeka’s family members threatened to abandon her daughter in the hospital.
“So, I was blackmailed to withdraw the case from the court and wrote an undertaking not to pursue the case in court any longer.”

She said even after writing the undertaking, her daughter was still abandoned at the hospital with a medical bill of N45,000, hanging on her neck. She said each time she went to Chukwuemeka’s family to request for the payment of the hospital bill, they threatened her.

She said her daughter had been having psychological trauma and abdominal pains since the attack on her by Chukwuemeka. “I am a single parent. I have no money to follow up the case. I beg Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, the Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Princess. Sarah Sosan and all concerned women to fight this battle for my daughter. It is a war against female intimidation and inhumanity to womenfolk,” she said.

I found out recently that the word 'Enjoyment' is interpreted differently by different people.

I once asked a friend what act makes him happy as in what act does make his day and i got shocking answer from my guy, hear him out:

O boy, if i get a plate of hot pepper soup with some countless number of green bottles and cap it up with ' one mediagateway' beautiful babe, i am done for the day.

What is your own take?

koastar:

The only solution to all these is for the government to attend to the issues of the Niger Delta constructively by
1. Stop gas flaring with all sincerity

2. Declare free education for the school age children up to secondary school level in all communities where crude oil is  been explorated

3. Free health services for children below 5yrs, women & the aged (60yrs above)

4. Make the region a hub of sporting events in Nigeria especially in swimming for the youths and teach them techincal vocations

I believe with these, the violence will stop

@koastar,

Are you from Nigerdelta or do you actually live in Nigerdelta area?

Look water don pass garri for yonder.

Your solution would have been viable only if it was adopted 20 years ago.
