I dont believe a nenadi usman can command as much respect from the imf and world bank the same way iweala did. if u read todays thisday caption on iwealas resignation you would even realise that usman is already having a battle in her hands, why? a meeting scheduled by imf for economic ministers havent even accorded her invitation yet because they still believe that iweala is in charge

the important question is how do africans see demselves? i am aware of africans abroad who try as much as possible to deny there heritage,back home here the emphasis is not on what unites us but wat divides us. so africans are the ones to create a new image for demselves. ppl in the western worlds will only regard you if u hold urself with respect/dignity.

we are backward because the leadership which ordinarily shd chart a course of honesty,vision and unity for the polity has failed to address dese salient issues but concentrate on acrimony,corruption and whipping up of sentiments. ghana (our neighbour) is advancing in leaps and bounds ahead of us while we keep on with our rigmarrole

I am not a fan of either castro nor communism but i am realistic, communism /castro has outlived 7 u.s. presidents (kennedy,johnson,nixon,carter,reagan,bush,clinton). it will take more than wishful thinking to separate cuba n communism.

as for revolution, leave matter!!! do u remember elian? whos father came to d u.s. to take back his son? there are lots of ppl like dat in cuba who still have strong affinity to communism

i believe both parts of the divide care passionately abt d going ons within the country . why else would we all spend time like this discussing? but lets face more serious issues which is" instability of leadership in nigeria" can we be rest assured that the new finance helms woman can carry on as efficiently as her predecessor? or can she command the degree of respect her predecessor had with international finance groups?

Please lets stick to the now and the future and lay less emphasis on the past. atrocities have been committed we all know but there is still a large silver lining in the clouds for us. Compare Nigeria now to what it was during the junta eras, and u will c we have moved significantly.

as for the okonjo-iweala controversy I can say without an atom of doubt that posterity will surely portray her name in gold for her dedication,professionalism e.t.c and guess what who loses at the end of the day from this? is it her who has a choice job still waiting for her abroad or is it Nigeria?

on the contrary Nigeria is not doomed and will never be doomed. Yes there are the ups and downs within the polity basically due to lack of visionary leadership but we are on the path to a greater nation. Most countries go through there own upheavals but it takes special ones to recover from such, Nigeria is a special case and will overcome.

over time history has shown us situations where we thought that chaos n strife will reign but we overcome it by Gods grace. I see a bright future devoid of sentiments and ethnicity as sometimes even seen on this forum. Doubt it not Nigeria is on the path to greatness

a strong n efficient african union is only feasible if d component nations r economically,politically as well as educationally stable asides dat, no meaningful result can be obtained we might as well stick to d apparatus we have nw.

it would be a union of strange bed-fellows. countries with different mindsets who have nt even tackled dere internal wranglings within demselves how do u now expect dem to have a committed attitude towards a united african union e.g. sudan has had for a long while n will still have for some time to come struggling for power bw d north n south.

though it is a laudable idea n could work. the challenges that is posed by the instability of member nations may nt allow the fruits of dis union to be visible.

yes most countries in africa where overly exploited by there colonial masters. a good example is staring us in d face everyday i.e.(nigeria) anoda example is zaire(now congo democratic republic ) but dis is nt to say dat african nations have nt also contributed immensely to the level of under-development inherent within them courtesy of greedy/despotic regimes(some also foisted on countries by western nations e.g. mobutu).
