AgricultureNigeria Records Increase In Crops Production, Agric Activities In 2017 –report by BuhariCarryGo(op): 9:39pm On Feb 27, 2018
Nigeria has recorded an increase in crops production and in land areas agricultural cultivation in 2017 above the 2016 production records.
A report on the 2017 Wet Season Agricultural Performance Survey (APS) report presented by the Federal Government in Abuja on Tuesday, said the overall Farm yields still remained below global and African averages for all the sub-sectors.
The study was done by the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) in collaboration with the Federal and states Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to the report, maize production increased from 10,813, 980 tonnes in 2016 to 12, 107,580 tonnes representing 11.96 per cent increase.
Rice production increased to 8.02 million tonnes was produced in 2017, representing an increase of 14.7 per cent over the 2016 output, sorghum increased by 4.4 per cent with an average yield of 1.3 tonnes per hectare. Others are cowpea with a 6.1 per cent increase, 11.4 per cent increase for soybean and 7.7 per cent increase for cassava.
The report listed major constraints to agricultural production during the year under review to include farmers-herdsmen clashes, insurgency, and cattle rustling among others.
It, however, recommended the strengthening of the capacity of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, to put in place strategies for collective action on high quality agricultural data generation.

PoliticsLet’s Commend Our Military Personnel by BuhariCarryGo(op): 10:16pm On Feb 25, 2018
So far, our military personnel have done a lot to keep the country safe. We thank them for the good job they are doing and we hope that they will not rest on their oars. It is true that that they have decimated the Boko Haram sect to a very large extent but they must not relax. The terrorists will still want to carry out attacks to show that they have not been defeated. Also, residents of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states should support the military with relevant information that can help them forestall attacks.
The military should also do their best to ensure that the remaining Chibok girls are released and reunited with their parents. This war has had a terrible effect on people in the North-east and Nigeria as a whole, and we will all be glad if it comes to an end as soon as possible. The government should continue to provide the necessary support to the military so that they can function effectively. Their welfare should be taken seriously. Families of all those who died on the battle field should be catered to, so that they do not feel abandoned.
PoliticsNigerians Shun Obasanjo’s Coalition For Nigeria - Daily Trust by BuhariCarryGo(op): 1:14pm On Feb 25, 2018
Nigerians shun Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria
Indications have emerged that the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), said to have been formed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, may have been rejected by politicians in Nigeria. Weeks after the inauguration of the movement in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), checks across the six geo-political zones show that Obasanjo has a long journey ahead to make impact on who he thinks could become the country’s president in 2019.

In Lagos State, the CNM is yet to become visible, neither can a specific individual be pointed as the coalition’s henchman.

However, a different coalition, the National Intervention Movement (NIM), being spearheaded by a former national president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Olisa Agbakoba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is mobilising tremendously among youths and civil right organisations in the state. Being the home of Nigeria’s civil activism and mass movement struggle, NIM organisers, who have repeatedly called themselves the authentic “third force” as against Obasanjo’s CNM, have used Lagos to mobilise large followership of youths who now register online to be members.

But despite continuous denials, sources who understand the workings of the NIM confirmed that there were plans to meet Obasanjo on possible ways of harmonising the goals of the two groups.

Already, Agbakoba, who is the arrowhead, is said to have recently concluded “a global mobilisation” effort for the movement to enjoy international appeal.
A statement signed by the director of communication of the NIM, John Ekwuyasi, read, “Dr. Agbakoba is back in Nigeria following extensive consultations with both Nigerians in the Diaspora and a variety of global leaders desirous of seeing a secure Nigeria to re-attain democratic leadership in Africa and reliability as a member of the 21st century’s progressive international comity of nations.”

According to him, Agbakoba, accompanied by Dr. Abdul Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, NIM co-chairman, has since commenced further nationwide consultations with all like-minded Nigerian leaders and groups, with the intent of partnering in the creation of a “Super-Coalition of Groups and Parties determined to bring about real sustainable change to the present politico-economic status quo.”

In Benue State, the coalition is yet to open any office, but many people are already aware of the movement.
A respondent, James Ejiga, said he was aware and would support the activities of the coalition if it opened an office in the state so as to spite the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, which, in his estimation, had failed Nigerians.

In Borno State, Obasanjo’s CNM seems unheard of among the majority. In practice, even if not in principle, no political or any other influential figure in the state seems to be associated in whatever form with the movement. And it has not opened its office yet in the state.

“You have just reminded me of it,” Umar Sanda, the youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) replied mockingly when Daily Trust on Sunday asked him.

“I don’t see how it will succeed because it departed from the tradition of forming successful coalitions set in 2014 when the coalition to oust the then President Goodluck Jonathan from power was made up of political parties and famous politicians like Kwankwaso, Murtala Nyako, Tinubu, Wamakko and many others.

“This Movement, right from its formation, has been just a mere pack of nonentities, and no percentage of even the governors, senators or representatives has shown any inkling of joining,” the opposition party youth leader said.

In Kano, the Obasanjo-led coalition has no office, and majority of the local politicians interviewed by our reporter were ignorant of the coalition.

Alhaji Ibrahim Sanusi Isa said, “I only heard about the coalition over the radio, and since then, I have not heard anything about it again. This is an indication that Obasanjo and those supporting him are not serious.”
Aminu Tukur Yakasai said, “It is high time Nigerians stopped entertaining anything that comes from Obasanjo because the old man is not serious at all. All he wants is to control the man at the centre (president) from outside, which is not possible.”

Yusuf Isyaku, a tea seller said, “I will not waste my time and energy listening to Obasanjo because he is the causative agent of the situation we found ourselves in today. What did he do during his time? Everybody is aware of the money this country got during Obasanjo’s regime; but what did he do with it?”

Checks in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, showed that the coalition had not yet opened any office, and there is no known point man at the moment.

Few people who claimed to have known the coalition said they read about it in the media.
Speaking to our correspondent about the coalition in Yenagoa, chairman of the Civil Liberty Organisation in Bayelsa State, Chief Nengi James, said he read the letter where the former president mentioned the formation of the coalition, but the issue of contesting for a second term is at the discretion of President Buhari because he has the constitutional right to contest again.

He said, “You know, President Buhari is fighting the issue of corruption and people are afraid that if he comes in for a second term, he may not spare anybody. To a large extent, Obasanjo is among those who have been accused in the Malabu deal and the presidential library issue. And this issue has been reoccurring. During Buhari’s second term, he may want to act on the issue of corruption. Many people are afraid of his second term because it will be a witch-hunting period for so many leaders in this country,” he said.
In Oyo State, the coalition has not been launched, even though the state is expected to be the political headquarters of the South-West, where major political decisions are taken in the region.

Although many people who spoke with Daily Trust on Sunday said they were aware of the recent launch of the coalition by the former president, they were not comfortable with such arrangement, saying Obasanjo cannot be trusted and cannot continue to decide for Nigerians.

The chief of staff to the Oyo State governor and an Associate Professor of Comparative Politics, Dr. Gbade Ojo, said the coalition was dead on arrival.
He said no serious politician would go into coalition or alliance with Obasanjo, who has a military background without regretting it.
A political analyst, Mr. Ademola Babalola, said with the limited time frame before the 2019 general elections, such coalition may not work again.
Also, in Jigawa State, the coalition is unheard of, and there is no office in either the state capital or any of the local government areas of the state.
A resident of Dutse, Safiyanu Sani, told Daily Trust on Sunday that since the time the idea about the coalition was muted, he never heard of it again.
Also, Danladi Babayo from Maigatari Local Government Area said he knew when it was launched, but since then, there has not been anything new.
However, unlike what obtains in other places, the Obasanjo coalition is already gathering momentum in Ondo State, with Demola Ijabiyi, a former commissioner under the late Governor Olusegun Agagu as state coordinator.
The movement, according to Ijabiyi, has started registering members in the 203 wards in the state.
The former commissioner told our correspondent that since the coalition is not a political party for now, it does not have leaders. They have, however, appointed coordinators who will serve as facilitators at local government levels.
According to him, the movement has acquired an office located at Morris Building, opposite Police A division in Akure, the state capital, where they now operate.
He said they had sent 100 forms to each ward, but was surprised at the demand as some wards keep demanding for more.
“In all, apart from those who registered on line, about 20,000 have been registered,’’ he said.
When Sunday Trust on Sunday went to town to sample people’s opinions in the sunshine state, they reacted with mixed feelings.
Ikuomola Ajibola, an IT consultant and farmer said he was aware of the coalition but does not believe it could work.
“It is a coalition of deceit,” he said, adding that only restructuring can move the country forward.
Mr Temitope Josua, a student, said he was aware of the letter Chief Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for second term, but not aware that there is a coalition already.
He, however, said he was eager to join them because what is happening in the country is not palatable.
Mr Muyiwa Ojo, a taxi driver in Akure, said he expected so much from this government, but he is now disappointed with what is happening. He said politicians were all the same, “coalition or no coalition.”
It was gathered that most of those in the coalition in the state included those of the old PDP members who left the party when Governor Olusegun Mimiko crossed from the Labour Party, and some aggrieved members of the APC who left the party after the last primary election.
In Kogi State, no office has been opened for the much talked about Obasanjo’s coalition. For now, those behind the coalition in the state are not known.
A Lokoja-based political analyst, Kabiru Yusuf, described the coalition movement as a project dead on arrival.
He said Obasanjo was only coming out with the movement for his selfish interest and not that of Nigerians. Yusuf, who accused Obasanjo of running Nigeria aground, urged him to return to his “Ota Farm” and live Nigeria alone.

Politics2019: How Prepared Are Opposition Parties? by BuhariCarryGo(op): 9:19pm On Feb 24, 2018
The 2019 general election is shaping up to be one of the most keenly contested polls in the history of Nigeria. As political awareness of the voting class keeps increasing by the day, watchers expect that it would reflect in the outcomes of the forthcoming general elections.

The agitation for a fresh political movement to herald a post-2019 government is getting loud. The yearning for this ideological shift seems to be gaining traction. This, according to pundits, might not be unconnected with the notion that the people are tired of the current political system as they now perceive the two leading parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as almost the same.
The clamour for fresh hands to run the nation’s affair has been said to be influenced by the desire to stop the recycling of politicians who have sustained themselves and their cronies in the corridors of power for decades.
Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has in one of her recent tweets, ruled out the PDP as an alternative while discrediting the ruling APC, saying they are birds of same feather.

“It is neither APC nor its twin brother. Yes, how does 6 differ from half a dozen?” she tweeted.

The former minister might have struck a raw nerve just as the ruling APC continues its battle to fulfil some of its campaign promises. More so, the ruling party has been accused of same actions, or inactions, for which it had in the past, criticised the former ruling party, the PDP.

The recent visit of the APC governors to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, amid terrorist attacks, had recently stirred up fresh criticisms among Nigerians from all shades against the party.

They queried the timing of the visit, saying that the action of these governors portrayed them as prioritising the party’s desire to remain in power beyond 2019.

The scenario seem like a déjà vu of sorts, as the APC had in the build up to 2015 general elections, criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan, for opting to continue with a political rally in Kano State despite a major attack in Yobe State.

EducationMass Sack Looms At JAMB by BuhariCarryGo(op): 7:13am On Feb 22, 2018
Mass sack looms at JAMB

There are strong indications that many officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) found culpable in the misappropriation of public funds in their care will have their appointments terminated.
An audit team recently discovered that millions of naira generated from the sale of scratch cards to candidates that sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could not be accounted for in several state offices.

A senior official of JAMB said investigators were not satisfied with explanations offered by some state coordinators and a clerk involved in the matter and thus, recommended the termination of their jobs.
The official said the monies in question, running into millions of naira, were realised from the sale of scratch cards between 2014 and 16.
The official said all these happened when the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, was not at the helm.
He said Prof Ishaq “is running the most transparent administration, and any official involved in any dishonest transaction will have himself to blame,” he said.
JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said those found guilty in the shoddy deals might lose their jobs and also face prosecution. He confirmed that officers involved in the inquiry were mostly state coordinators and a clerk.
A clerk attached to the board’s office in Benue State had reportedly told investigators that the sum of N36m was ingested by a “mysterious snake” which investigators said they had not seen.
In Ondo State, N1.3m is said to be missing. In the Edo State office, N31m was discovered missing, while in Kogi State, auditors failed to trace the whereabouts of N7m.
In Plateau State, some officials were said to have mismanaged about N16m and in Nasarawa State, N23m was discovered missing.
About N20m was missing in the Kano State office and in the Yobe office N613, 000 was confirmed missing. In Gombe State, N10.2m has not been accounted for.

PoliticsAPC Blasts PDP Over State Of The Nation Allegations by BuhariCarryGo(op): 6:42am On Feb 22, 2018
The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked the assertions from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the federal government is ‘’making plans to manipulate performance indices”, saying the allegations are wild and unsubstantiated. The party also stated that in a bid to launch itself back to political space, the PDP has resorted to engaging in “destructive propaganda, deliberately spreading false, misleading and fabricated tales withintent to cause resentments, distrust and panic in the country.”
In a statement entitled “Re: PDP’s Wild Allegations On State Of The Nation” and signed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, and released to newsmen in Abuja, the APC questioned the motive of the PDP’s assertions on the party’s handling of the economy. “It’s either that PDP dooe not realise that allegations such as this are capable of eroding confidence in the economy or they just don’t care as long as their desperate bid to return to power is served.”
The statement reads in part: “In the name of playing opposition, the PDP has typically chosen to launch itself back into reckoning by engaging in destructive propaganda, deliberately spreading false, misleading and fabricated tales with intent to cause resentments, distrust and panic in the country. “While APC recognises the right of the PDP and indeed any other political party to criticise and our party, and the policies and programmes of our government, however, we believe this should be done based on facts and reason. Indeed, democracy thrives on a strong opposition that puts the government on its toes. But engaging in wild propaganda, cooked up tales and deliberate falsehoods in the name of opposing the government is ultimately destructive.
“While we do not speak for the INEC, we wish to state however that it borders on cheap blackmail for PDP to launch wholesale attack on the integrity of this institution in the way it has done. INEC is certainly not yet the perfect institution that we all aspire to. However, it appears that to PDP, INEC can only be good enough if PDP wins election.”
Abdullahi noted that the party’s position remained that anyone found to have violated any aspect of the Electoral Act should be dealt with in accordance with the law, adding that it was strange that the PDP has also faulted the EFCC’s offer of assistance to INEC to monitor campaigns funds. He insisted that APC welcomed any measures taken to ensure transparency in electoral financing.
“Most shockingly, PDP alleges that the federal government is making plans to “manipulate performance indices” and even claims that government has hired agents for this assignment. How low can they get? The country’s slide and subsequent exit from recession was announced by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) under this same
government,” it added.

Politics2019: Who Will Run If Buhari Decides Not To? by BuhariCarryGo(op): 10:07am On Feb 18, 2018
Though President Muhammadu Buhari has not yet explicitly announced that he would go for a second term, many people close to him have said so and he has not publicly disowned them,a development seen by many as consent on the side of the president.
Some analysts say President Buhari is not the talking type, and that while he allows those calling on him to go for second term, circumstances in the coming months will determine which direction he would take.
This is without prejudice to recent events that are pointing to the possibility of Buhari giving another fight for the presidency, including yesterday’s meeting with APC governors and transportation minister, Rotimi Amaechi.

PoliticsPMB Will Seek Re-election In 2019 – SGF by BuhariCarryGo(op): 7:30am On Feb 16, 2018
Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, yesterday cleared any doubt about President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid, saying the president will seek re-election in 2019.
“We do not have an alternative to President Muhammadu Buhari for now”, Mustapha said, adding that other presidential aspirants for the 2019 presidency definitely have nothing to offer.

In the past one month, former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida have called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to run in 2019.
In his own letter, Obasanjo called on Buhari to mount from the horse and pave way for a new leadership in 2019 and also called for a new movement to take Nigeria to the promised land.
On his part, IBB said Buhari should pave way for digital leadership in 2019. Of course, he was indirectly saying that Buhari’s leadership is analogue.
Both letters have continued to generate reactions and debates in the polity .While Obasanjo ‘s letter was blunt, IBB’s ended up embarrassing him and ended up scoring an own goal with two letters. There have been denials and counter- denials from his camp but at the end of the day, I don’t think anybody will take any intervention from the Minna General serious anymore.
I perfectly understand IBB telling Buhari not to run in 2019.; don’t forget IBB is a staunch PDP member and unlike Obasanjo has not torn his party’s membership cards .So, do you expect him to support Buhari to run against his party? It’s no secret that IBB and Buhari are not friends and can never be friends.
But did you notice that both men effectively shut out former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from the presidency in 2019. It’s like Atiku has entered a one chance bus.
But what do IBB and Obasanjo have in common? Let me give you a brief profile of the two generals.
Babangida ruled Nigeria for eight years and never wanted to leave power.
But he was forced to leave after annulling the June 12 presidential election .Obasanjo on the other hand, ruled for two terms and wanted to amend the constitution to run for a third time.
Since then, he had been bitter and has never forgiven Nigerians for denying him his ambitious third term, even though illegal.
