Sometimes i am lost in tought as to where the headquater of corruption in Nigeria really is. Come to think of it. every politician that comes to power was once an ordinary citizen, probably in public service, in the academia or running personal business. On ascension of office, there are vultures or people i may call principalities who have PHD in corrupt practices who educate these politicians on how to looth. This is how i will categorize the corruption in my opinion NNPC FIRS CUSTOMS JUDICIARY NATIONAL ASSEMBLY NIGERIA PORTS AUTHORITY CBN POLITICIANS The staff of others educate the politicians on how the game is played Rearrange this in your opinion or come up with your own list. Say no to corruption |
Thats about 7.2 billion naira...into the air for safety...someone should please divide that figure by 5million Rivers Indigenes and see how much it would have alleviated poverty in that state. its a pity indeed |
i saw this happening...i saw the press release for this award on many newspapers in Nigeria and knew that most of the radio stations will expect the organisers to put their names on that list automatically because them get fine voice or that they are popular. i visited their website in June and saw the nice work done there by the organisers for radio personalities to put in their entries...but the average Nigeria prefers fire brigade approach to everything. Now the award is here and most known radio personalities are not on the list...i think you should ask the presenters why they didn't register for the award since march this year. please dont blame the organisers...they've done their beat. |

There has to be more about life than uncontrolled apetite for materialism.it is more worrisome and saddening that people will do all sorts to acquire it only for it to fade before our very eyes. |
First, it was trade by barter, then salt, Beads, cowries and manilas as mediums of exchange. Today, its paper Money. My prediction is that in the next 50 years paper money will efface. We are gradually shifting towards card MONEY..credit, debit cards. the last shall be Body Chips. just thinking end time and how that everything is planned. It is saddening that all the labour and sweat of humanity is quantified by the paper called money. Whats your take |
MOBILE phones CAN cause brain tumours, according to a landmark court ruling. Italian businessman Innocente Marcolini, 60, fell ill after using a handset at work for up to six hours every day for 12 years. Now Italy’s Supreme Court in Rome has blamed his phone. Experts have predicted a flood of legal actions from victims. Stricken Mr Marcolini last night warned: “People must be told the risks.” He was diagnosed with a brain tumour after complaining of head and chin pains. And yesterday his country’s Supreme Court stated there was a “causal link” between his heavy phone use and the growth. British scientists have claimed there is insufficient evidence to prove any link to mobiles. But after the Rome court ruling, Mr Marcolini said: “This is significant for very many people. I wanted this problem to become public because many people still do not know the risks. “I was on the phone, usually the mobile, for at least five or six hours every day at work. I wanted it recognised that there was a link between my illness and the use of mobile and cordless phones. “Parents need to know their children are at risk of this illness.” Respected oncologist and professor of environmental mutagenesis Angelo Gino Levis gave evidence for Mr Marcolini — along with neurosurgeon Dr Giuseppe Grasso. They said electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile and cordless phones can damage cells, making tumours more likely. Prof Levis told The Sun: “The court decision is extremely important. It finally officially recognises the link. “It’ll open not a road but a motorway to legal actions by victims. We’re considering a class action. “Tumours due to radiation may not appear for 15 years, so three to five-year studies don’t find them. “We’ll only realise in years to come the damage phones can cause children.” Mr Marcolini’s tumour was discovered in the trigeminal nerve — close to where the phone touched his head. It is benign but threatened to kill him as it spread to the carotid artery, the major vessel carrying blood to his brain. Decision ... court building in Rome Rex His face was left paralysed and he takes daily morphine for pain. Alasdair Philips of Powerwatch, which campaigns for more research on mobile use, said: “This is an interesting case and proves the need for more studies. “People should limit mobile and cordless use until we know more.” The World Health Organisation urged limits on mobile use last year, calling them a Class B carcinogen. But a spokesman for Britain’s Health Protection Agency said: “The scientific consensus is that mobile phones do not cause cancer.” International radiation biology expert Michael Repacholi said: “Studies show no evidence of cancer. But if you are worried, use a headset, hands-free or loudspeaker.” Media lawyer Mark Stephens said the verdict could “open the floodgates” — even though there is no direct obligation on British courts to follow the Italians’ lead. He said: “It is possible people will begin legal action here, but I think the chances of success are less. I think they’ll join any class action in Italy.” Jury out for 12yrs MAY 2000: Government’s Stewart Report warns kids to avoid mobiles due to unknown effects of microwave radiation. October 2005: British Journal of Cancer says no substantial risk of brain tumours in first ten years of mobile use. October 2007: Britain’s Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research Programme finds no link to ill health. May 2011: Council of Europe warns mobiles should be banned from classrooms over “potentially harmful” effects. June 2012: World Health Organisation says “some” cancer risk. Boy, 11, banned from Scouts because he doesn’t believe in God AN 11-year-old boy has been banned from joining the Scouts — because he doesn’t believe in GOD. George Pratt has been attending his local Scout group for ten months and was over the moon when they invited him to invest in the group. But the schoolboy was unable to swear allegiance to God and the Queen because he is an atheist. As a result he has been banned from attending and his furious dad Nick, 45, has accused the Christian movement of being "intolerant". Nick said: “Christianity is meant to be about being tolerant, forgiving and understanding. “You are allowed to join if you are a Christian or a Muslim but you can’t not believe in God. “This is regardless of the fact that you are sensitive, generous, kind and genuinely a good person. “There are a lot of Christian organisations which do not exclude anybody. It just seems the Scouts in this area isn’t one of them.” George began attending the 1st Midsomer Norton Group in Somerset — which meets in a hall opposite his house – in January. Refused entry ... the Scouts centre in Radstock, Somerset SWNS But to become a full member he must now take the Scout Promise, which reads: “On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, To do my duty to God and to the Queen, To help other people, And to keep the Scout Law.” Different versions of the oath are available for different faiths, such as the use of “Allah” to replace “God” for Muslims. George said: “I am really disappointed about not being able to go anymore just because I don’t believe in God. “We have spoken about it with the Scout Leader but he won’t change his decision, it is very unfair. “Everyone is going caving soon and I’ve never been before. It is something I would love to do but I’m not allowed. “I’m not going to change my decision though.” The Scout Movement was founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 and adventurer Bear Grylls is the UK’s current Chief Scout. The Born Survivor star, famed for his death-defying challenges, has spoken strongly about his Christianity in the past. Simon Carter, from the Scout Movement, said: “All young people are required to make the Scout Promise if they wish to become a Scout. “Scouting accepts that as they grow into adults, some young people may question or doubt the existence of God as they develop their personal spiritual understanding. “Scouting believes that young people going through this process should be able to remain a Scout.” Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4596343/Boy-banned-from-Scouts-because-he-doesnt-believe-in-God.html#ixzz29feoFoUt |

The problem of northern Nigeria is people like Bukar Ibrahim...people who were entrusted with the resources of all but converted it to personal good...Now, he is ranting with his ill-gotten wealth. someone should remind him that so long as Bokoharam or any other form of insurgence remains in the north nobody cares. he should also note that no one has the monopoly of violence. Nigeria's many complex problems started with the discovery of oil. This same oil enshrined corruption and blurred the creative vision of the leaders that followed the independence. Necessity they say is the mother of invention...Oil just has to go for people to put on their thinking caps. Our ingenuity as a people has never come to the fore because of oil. |
I have tried to imagine a world without teachers. They perpetuate knowledge and take rubbish from people while serving. They take us from craddle to finish. Me like my teachers,i appreciate and celebrate them on a day like this. |
California State in the United States has become the third state to welcome driverless cars with open arms. Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law today that officially legalized self-driving vehicles, following in the footsteps of Nevada and Florida. The signing event was held at the Google complex in Mountain View, Calif. where engineers have been working on driverless car concepts for years and employees routinely use them to commute to and from work. Such vehicles weren’t technically illegal to operate before passage of the bill, but Google and others working on similar technology hope that by making their use explicitly legal it will clear up any confusion on the part of law enforcement and limit the chance they might be disallowed in the future. California’s bill reportedly contains fewer restrictions on the cars’ use than other states, such as Nevada where each vehicle must log a certain amount of testing hours before hitting the open road, but the door is open for potential regulations to be amended at a later date. Google believes that smart cars will prove to be much safer than those with human drivers, in part because they won’t need to worry about distractions and typical reaction times. That belief was given some validity this summer when the search giant revealed that its driverless cars had completed 300,000 miles of testing without a single incident. http://thecitizenng.com/products/self-driving-cars-are-now-street-legal-in-california/ |

If You Think Cheating Is Rampant Now, Just Wait Till Google Glasses Are Here When I was a senior in high school, we thought we were getting away with murder, copying calculus programs from the class genius onto our TI-84 graphing calculators and using them to solve the hardest test problems. Our technologically backwards teacher, who could barely operate the overhead projector, never had a clue. How the high school kids of today would laugh at us. Who needs a graphing calculator when you have an iPhone? Smartphones, tablets, Google and even Facebook are all tools with great educational potential, but they’re increasingly being used by students striving to avoid learning, according to reports by New York magazine and The New York Times. While both delved into the recent cheating scandal at Manhattan‘s elite Stuyvesant High School, this is no mere upper-class problem. In a 2010 survey, one in three students said they had plagiarized something from the internet, and almost 60% said they had cheated on a test. Here’s the thing: The cheating epidemic is about to get worse — much worse. A few months from now, Google will begin selling the wearable heads-up display it calls Project Glass and everyone else has already dubbed Google Glasses. (In fact, you can already buy a prototype if you have $1,500.) While Google Glasses are pretty conspicuous (read: ugly), it can’t be long before Google or someone else develops a pair that looks like ordinary eyeglasses. Think about what that means. Under the guise of vision correction, any student will be able to wear an internet-connected computer capable of hands-free communication and photo-sharing. No more trying to conceal the iPhone in your lap. You won’t need thumbs to operate your Google Glasses, either, just tiny head gestures. Future devices will probably respond to eye movements. It’s the future of cheating. And the educators of today had better start thinking now about how they’re going to handle it. Will there be spot-checks of eyewear to make sure they don’t contain microchips? Will classrooms come equipped with cell-phone jammers? Or, perhaps, will curriculums evolve to feature tests that can’t be gamed, made up of up questions that demand creative problem-solving rather than memorization and recall? Or is that last scenario the real science fiction? By the way, that class genius who wrote the programs we all used to pass calculus? He works at Google now. |
Does it make you angry? Does it rile you to see your country portrayed as poor and suffering and full of struggle? It burns you, does it not? To have some foreigner- who knows nothing of your history and pain, of the stories that flow within your blood- to have this foreigner come in and tell your story? Is it not the height of disrespect and insensitivity? Does it not chafe against the thick skin you have grown to cover your other wounds? Does it not make you angry? We should wax sanctimonious about national pride being slighted. We should vent our displeasure online. We should occupy something. Because God forbid the truth ever be told about what things really are. God forbid a stranger remind us about those things we choose to ignore everyday. God forbid we ever face the truth about ourselves. God forbid we do not go on the internet and rail about how our country is being cast in bad light. God forbid we do not talk about how there is a small minority which lives better than portrayed. God forbid we do not ignore truth one more time. God forbid we don’t. @miabaga_dotcom #RickRoss ”When I made this record..I wrote it in a mind of a N**** who may not have anything. The best way to display maturity sometimes in dicey situations like this is silence.Islam must learn to swallow such inciting movies, cartoons and write ups...the anti-Islamic groups all over the world now knows exactly what to do to get the muslim world boiling and the media busy. The big question is, for how long will muslims keep reacting?...if only they will embrace silence..they will get tired and the world will be peaceful. If muslims keep reacting to such, then we should expect more of such movies and cartoons. |
Nigerian National Honours are yearly conferred upon Nigerians and friends of Nigeria who had rendered meritorious service to the country, its values and its people in previous years. They were instituted by the National Honours Act No. 5 of 1964, during the First Republic. In recent times, it has been most remembered for two major things; being rejected by Professor Chinua Achebe and being regarded as a roll call of the biggest looters of Nigeria. The latter is not without merit and the former was widely hailed by Nigerians who had come to regard the awards as some kind of National Villains List. The President of Nigeria, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker House of Representatives, Chief Justice of Nigeria and a couple of other elected/selected public officials are automatic recipients of these awards. A year into their tenure, irrespective of performance or value creation, they are bestowed with the “highest honours” in the land. This makes a lot of sense in a country where attaining office is seen to be the peak of achievement rather than what one gets done with the office. Little wonder that some of the most revered rogues in Nigeria’s history are members of this Honours’ List. Bode George and James Ibori are two of its old boys. Contrast this reality with the treatment of genuine heroes. Nigerian Paralympians returned from London yesterday after shattering world records and saving the face of the nation with 13 medals compared with the zero medals we won at the Olympics. These real heroes were dumped at the rickety National Institute for Sports last night. Look at Mr. Imeh Usuah the taxi driver who was given a N30,000.00 award for returning N18,000,000.00 found in his car. As far as the National Orientation Agency was concerned, it had done its job by giving the seemingly poor man N30,000.00. Who cares if they gave him N100 when the best reward would have been for him to receive a deserving National Medal of Honour. Listen to every American Governor or President and even candidates positioning themselves to occupy such offices, they give respect to American heroes home and abroad, keeping the values and ideals of their founding fathers real and giving up their lives for the sake of America. Governor Mitt Romney has been deservingly criticized for daring to forget the heroics of the American soldiers in Afghanistan by not mentioning that in his nomination address. A Senior Special Assistant to the president was discussing with my group about a perception project for Nigeria. The intention was to look out for ways to improve the country’s image. With a list of “heroes” like this as released by the federal government, we just set the nation back on that front. We cannot obviously deny the fact that not all the listed people are not deserving of the award but in a nation where politics is the biggest failure, why should politicians get the highest rewards in the land? Why should an office holder automatically qualify for a national honour as soon as he gets the job? What happens to the logic of such people at first earning their reputation? What is the problem with our country? Why do we do always do our best to turn logic on its head? How can we be focused on transforming our national values and at the same time, in the same breath, honour men and women who in other climes would be honoured with jail sentences? How can a government release a list of people sabotaging the economy (fuel subsidy scam) one week and the following week the same men top the list of people to be rewarded “for their contribution to national development”? A society is built on what it rewards. We reward militants and economic saboteurs, we are sure to inspire another generation to go on that path. It looks as though if you are a big criminal in Nigeria, the federal government will find you…and reward you. Just be a criminal that pays his dues. Is that how to build a nation? The film The Innocence of Muslims went undetected for months in Hollywood before it triggered an explosion of global outrage Tuesday. The origins of the amateurish film (a 14-minute trailer was downloaded to YouTube in July to scant awareness) remain a mystery. "I've never heard about this project," says radio talk-show host and film critic Michael Medved, who described the film as less than high school quality. "It's not something that was on anyone's radar screen." The film reportedly has required 60 actors and 45 crewmembers, and portrays Islam's prophet Mohammed as a philandering, child-molesting murderer who bends his philosophy to fit his desires. A man identifying himself as Israeli Jewish real-estate developer Sam Bacile told the Associated Press that he made the film for $5 million with the help of Israeli backers. Israel's government says it has no information on him. "Nobody has heard of this guy," Los Angeles Jewish Journal editor in chief Rob Eshman said of Bacile. "I'm willing to be surprised, but it's so unlikely a guy could exist here and no one could know him." Steve Klein, an insurance salesman from Hemet, Calif., who says he was a consultant for the film, said Bacile is not his real name and that he is proud of his film. He said no one came to the film when it was screened once, but after the attacks in Libya his phone was "ringing off the hook." "This morning he called and he was terrified and said, 'Am I going to get arrested?' I settled him down on that issue." Klein said he had no regrets that the film sparked violence in Cairo, and blamed the U.S. State Department's lack of security for the murder of the ambassador. "I did not incite them," he said. "That's their nature." Klein said he is not worried about repercussions either. "There are times you have to do what you got to do," he said. The two-hour movie, Innocence of Muslims, cost $5 million to make and was financed with the help of more than 100 Jewish donors, said filmmaker Sam Bacile, who wrote and directed it. The self-described Israeli Jew told the Associated Press, from an undisclosed location, that Islam is a cancer and that the film was intended to make a political statement, while condemning Islam on the whole. |
