Doctors at a German clinic performed a surgical procedure on Patience Jonathan to remove uterine fibroids, SaharaReporters has learnt from a presidency source. The source added that the fibroids might be cancerous, even though he could not confirm it as German doctors are reportedly conducting further tissue testing. Jonathan was planning a quick and secret trip to
Germany to see his ailing wife. Mrs. Jonathan
remains hospitalized in Germany almost eleven days
after she was airlifted there from Abuja early
last week. SaharaReporters first broke the news that Mrs.
Jonathan had been flown to a German hospital for
medical treatment for "food poisoning", a condition
for which she was reportedly misdiagnosed by
doctors at the Presidential clinic in Aso Rock. "The First Lady underwent surgery for the
removal of uterine fibroids," said our source who is
close to the Jonathans. SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Mrs.
Jonathan had traveled to Dubai to have a procedure
performed. She then hurriedly returned to Nigeria
before she was airlifted to Germany for urgent
medical care. We could not ascertain whether she had tried to
have the fibroids removed in Dubai, but other
sources had disclosed that she developed an
infection in Dubai that necessitated her return to
Nigeria and quick evacuation to Germany. Mrs. Jonathan's trip to Dubai and Germany had
been covered in secrecy before SaharaReporters
reported both events. Sources close to the First Lady had also told
SaharaReporters that her closest friend, Bola
Shagaya, had convinced her to undergo some form
of cosmetic surgery to enhance her looks. A source in the Presidency told SaharaReporters
that President Jonathan was planning a secret trip
to see his hospitalized wife in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Mr. Jonathan is taking off for official visits to
Malawi and Botswana, but our source said the
president will fly secretly into Germany from South Africa to visit his wife before returning to
Abuja.

Help, yesterday, came the way of 25-year-old Abubakar Buba, whose two kidneys were allegedly removed in a private hospital in the state, as Governor Isa Yuguda donated $ 22,000 (about N3.5 million) to enable him travel to India for transplant. His mother and his uncle have similarly offered to
donate their kidneys to the patient presently on
dialysis at the Renal and Dialyses Centre of
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching
Hospital, Bauchi. While making the donation, Governor Yuguda said
the money was for the transplanting of new kidneys
to the patient in India, explaining that there was
also another undisclosed amount to cater for the
procession of visa and other necessary medical tests. Yuguda, who was represented by the state
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Malami, said
he had directed a thorough investigation into the
matter and reiterated the commitment of the
government to the provision of health care to the
people of the state. He said the medical team would take the patient
and the two kidneys donors to Kano for test to know
which kidney would be suitable to the patient.

MTN and Airtel are reporting that their mobile phone masts are coming under attack from gunmen in northern Nigeria who may be trying to elude police trackers through their phones. A Reuters reporter said he saw 10 masts burned to
the ground on Wednesday morning in the northern
Nigerian cities of Kano and Maiduguri where
Islamists are waging a low-level insurgency
against the Goodluck Jonathan government.
Destruction of the phone masts disrupted service for local residents on their mobiles.
Similarly, in Kano, Nigeria's second largest city,
men on motorbikes destroyed MTN and Airtel
mobile phone masts in the early hours of
Wednesday, a policeman told Reuters, asking not to
be named. He said Boko Haram was suspected to be behind the attack.
"We confirm that like all the other major telcos,
some of MTN's installations in northern Nigeria
have been damaged by unknown persons,"
spokeswoman Funmilayo Omogbenigun said.
"All the relevant government security agencies have been informed and we are receiving their full co-
operation."
A police spokesman in Kano and Maiduguri
declined to comment, saying investigations were
ongoing. Airtel was not immediately available for
comment. However, the Joint Task Force spokesperson, Lt.
Col Musa Sagir stated that the JTF in
Maiduguri has observed an evolution of new
methods of criminal activities by Boko Haram
terrorists, he explained that the sect has mutated
in terrorists activities by including the commencement of large scale destruction of GSM
towers in the state. He said the JTF has received
information that the sect carried out bombing of
masts across Borno state in the last few days.
Boko Haram, which has killed hundreds this year
in the largely-Muslim north, has not claimed responsibility for the phone mast burnings. The sect
usually attacks government, security or sectarian
targets.

Nigerian Lady Wakes In Mortuary 2 Days After
Death “I thought we were all sleeping,” she said. Miracles are still happening! Twenty-one-year-old
Adora Ugwu is planning to be a soldier. She also
wants to secure admission into one of the country’s
tertiary institutions. She had put her hands on the
plough of her latter dream by writing the last
UMTE. But, as she was going for the other one, she died.
Two days after the lady wrote the examination, she
was heading for her home state of Enugu for the
recruitment into the Nigerian Army when the vehicle
she was travelling had a head-on collision with a
similar minibus. The result: her death and that of 25 others who
included four discharged members of batch B
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Twenty of them including Adora reportedly died
on the spot in headon collision involving two 15
passengers’ capacity buses, each, belonging
separately to Peace Mass Transit Limited and the
Enugu State Transport Company (ENTRACO).
The buses had registration number BENUE - XB 504 TKP, ENUGU - XL 812 UWN respectively. The ghastly crash occurred along Enugu- Markudi
express road, at Amoka in Udi, Enugu State on
June 20th. Immediately after the crash which was
promptly reported to the Enugu State Command of
the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by its
Delta State Sector Commander Lukas Ikpi who met the accident while travelling on the road, the dead
including Adora were evacuated to Our Saviour
Hospital morgue at 9th mile. But she was not
meant to stay among the dead for long. Two days after she had been confined to the
mortuary. The parents had wept and mourned, most
of them especially the mother was devastated, but
the dead must be buried. And this was what
Adora’s relative intended doing: bury her two day-
old corpse. At the morgue, the attendants were putting in place all the deeds of mortification when
suddenly there was a sound; a sneeze, it was. They
looked around, then another one! Behold, the body
being prepared for claim by the relatives had just
sneezed. The dead don’t sneeze, they reasoned. Adora, whose
body was being prepared, is not dead after all.
When Saturday Mirror asked her what she felt on
her first realization of consciousness, she said: “I
thought we were all sleeping. When I asked people
around where I was, she said they said I had an accident. "I cannot remember anything that happened when I
was at the mortuary.” When Adora was discovered
to be alive, her relative who had come to identify her
was immediately called phoned the others from the
morgue. Tears turned to felicitation. From the
morgue she was later transferred to the Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu where is currently
receiving treatment and spoke with Saturday
Mirror. Adora, told Saturday Mirror that she hails from
Enugu state. She said she attended a secondary
school in North-Bank Markudi, Benue State
adding that she was in Benue to take her JAMB
after which she was travelling down to Enugu for
army recruitment when the accident occurred. GOD IS WONDERFUL

The Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order (ORO) said this Saturdaymorning that it killed five suspected terrorists after repelling an attack from the terrorists in Maiduguri.This is contained in a statement by Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, the spokesman of JTF, in Maiduguri.It stated that the terrorists attacked the JTF patrol team with an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) on Friday. "There was an IED attack targeted at JTF
patrol team at Ruwan Zafi, Dikwa-Gamboru
Road in Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram
terrorists."Fuel Propelled IED was used by the
terrorists during the attack, which resulted to fire
outbreak that burnt some adjoining shops,'' it stated. The statement added that two soldiers
and a teenager were wounded.It stated that
normalcy had since been restored in the affected
area, noting that people had resumed their normal
activities, unhindered.

Robbers Attack Bullion Van, Kill Police
Inspector-Robbers attacked a bullion van and killed a police inspector who was part of the team of policemen escorting the money to a bank in Lagos, yesterday. The policemen were said to be escorting staff
of a plastic-making company with an
undisclosed sum of money around Ajao when
the armed robbers opened fire thereby killing
the inspector. It was learnt that although the inspector was
killed, the policemen were able to foil the
robbery as the culprits were said to have
sustained bullet wounds. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide,
confirmed the incident to our correspondent
on the telephone, adding that efforts were
being made to arrest the culprits. She said: "The policemen were on duty and
were escorting the plastic company workers
to the bank with the money when they were
attacked somewhere between Aswani and
Ajao Estate. "Armed robbers laid ambush and killed a police
inspector but the robbery was foiled as the
armed robbers were also shot but managed to
escape. Meanwhile, investigations are
ongoing."
