Nairaland General › US Embassy In Israel Damaged By Fresh Strikes by burp18(op): 8:14am On Jun 16, 2025 |
An Iranian missile has damaged the American embassy in Israel, according to reports this morning. Iran has launched early morning attacks on Tel Aviv and the northern city of Haifa as conflict between the two nations entered its fourth day of open warfare, killing at least five and injuring dozens. Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, said the embassy in Tel Aviv was damaged “from concussions of Iranian missile hits” near the building. “No US personnel were injured,” he added. Donald Trump had warned Iran not to strike US targets on Sunday, saying the “full strength and might” of America’s military could be used against the country. Concern over whether the US could be dragged further into the conflict has continued to grow as its forces in the Middle East help shield Israel from Iran’s missile barrage. Iranian state TV said the country fired at least 100 missiles at Israel overnight, signalling that it has no intention of yielding to international calls for de-escalation. After a third night of Iranian bombardment, Israelis are now in no doubt about the truth of what their government has been saying all along: that the vaunted missile defence system is “not hermetic”. At least five more people were killed in a series of direct hits last night. Worryingly, Army Radio just reported that two of the victims, who died after a ballistic missile struck a residential area of Petah Tikvah, east of Tel Aviv, were in a protected space at the time. The report said the missile’s warhead hit a spot right between two reinforced rooms, which were unable to withstand the blast. On previous nights, as in previous conflicts, the suggestion was always that the victims of rocket fire were those who, either through choice or necessity, had not followed the official directive to enter a designated bomb shelter. The safety of these places - reinforced rooms which are not necessarily subterranean, but can also be many storeys up in high-rise buildings - is central to Israelis feeling that they can endure times of war. Although support for the campaign against Iran feels strong on the street, that confidence is being shaken, with potentially more than a thousand ballistic missiles still at Tehran’s disposal. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/06/16/israel-iran-missile-strikes-tel-aviv-latest-news/?fbclid=IwY2xjawK8oq1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHoFLU7CcVkXqcN20W9gRkTFAV4uyoZun3vcRsmF5TzSK7tVt1TufkrwcN8fV_aem_jeK9SkY0QPbrzoq1VF4ngw |

Stayingalive: To an extent I understand your point being I have been in similar situation. But then no country develops with this kind of system in place.
The root is our justice system is broken, our security strengthen is diluted. This jungle justice of a thing is just a bye product of failure of a system. If left unchecked, lead to a cycle of violence, this cycle gives birth to some barbarism See Nigeria is a funny country. With everything that's happening instead of the dullard's(leaders) representing to introduce measures and strengthen our security. They are rehabilitating and reintegrating terrorists back into the society. What message are they trying to pass? Someones killed and raped 10s of 100s of people. The same person come out to say he has repented and you reward them for it. This country's just a giant shithole. |

SAMBARRY: Jungle justice again? Anyway it shows the failure of the judicial system and law enforcement agencies Not encouraging jungle justice but thieves, whether man, woman, or child deserve no justice. Around last year I was attacked by two guys wielding machetes. They dispossessed me of my phone and everything I had in my pocket. There were a few cuts on my backs,,, could have been worse if I had struggled with them or try to resist. I used to feel sympathy for these criminals but I don't anymore. You live in a country where security's dead. Kidnappers are no longer abducting people on the road. They come in their droves to your houses and communities and abduct victims in their 100s so I can understand the frustration of the people meteing out jungle justice to these criminals. Why you dey pity them na because them never do you. A thief will stop at nothing to dispossess you of your belonging, even if it means killing you. |

Only sensible response so far. I had thesame experience last year too and it has nothing to do with downloading the official WhatsApp. IT'S A PHONE ISSUE. AND IT IS COMMON WITH ALOT OF REFURBISHED PHONES. It is common with refurbished Redmi, Gionee, Oppo and a list of others. How I was able to recover my account? I bought another phone. My old phone was a Redmi. Bought a Huawei and installed WhatsApp at the point of purchase and it worked at once. Issue was resolved. OP get another phone. Tecno, Infinix or any phone that's already running WhatsApp, insert your SIM and log on WhatsApp with your number. e go work. Lastly,, don't even bother mailing WhatsApp to recover your account because you go send mail taya,,, Your device is flagged. |

Kobojunkie: Let's stop reading between the lines and start telling ourselves the truth. The vast majority of those who started as scavengers remain scavengers. Only a handful of them rise beyond that for all of their lives. Many more of them end up sick from the toxins they are exposed to and may even die as a result. So, please don't put down people who go into 9-5s for these half-truths here.
Yes, scavenging can be a good business for the person with the right know-how and attitude but like many other works of its kind there are many many risks to it and it is worth considering those risks before venturing into it as a way of living. Children, for one, should not be allowed to work these jobs. Matter of fact, anyone who does not have the right gear for the work should not embark on it at all. If you checked my initial post. You'll see I pointed "some", not "all" started as scavengers. You can decide to start the business today even with your capital and still be unsuccessful. In the same vain, you can decide to start with almost nothing and you'll grow gradually. It's just life. We are not all going to succeed. There's always going to be a balance. |

souzadchef: Even if you're blind , can't you read? Even if you're Iliterate? Why are you not on a garbage site making 800k monthly if it's such a lucrative job.?You can see poverty etched out and you're whipping out an imaginary outlier story to defend your bias. I don't mean to sound rude but you're unexposed. Chances are that you're probably amongst the millions of Nigerians who work 9-5 for some meagre 150k a month. Read between the lines. Garbage or scrap collection business is big business. You cannot afford to start it because you are too poor. Most of the people you find doing this business started as scavengers, and gradually, they have a place of their own where people bring in scrap metals for them to buy. They gather them until it weighs a couple of tons and take them to buyers who in pay millions of nairas for it. For example, a kg of copper costs about ₦13,000 or so. These scavengers would buy it off of you for half the price while you struggle with your meagre monthly salary. Normally, I don't even expect you to think of it like this because you are incapacitated. You are too broke to be able to afford to go into the business so I I'll excuse your ignorance. |

Melagros: COMRADES, I am creating this post in response to a thread created yesterday by a fellow Nairalander that; when he's married his living condition will be better! That he is tired of living in abject poverty! (I'll be very happy if the mods can attach that link to this post)
https://www.nairaland.com/8245002/life-get-better-when-got
I went to see a friend today, unfortunately, when I called her, she told me that she was not around, then I decided to stroll back home; on my way home, lo and behold! This is what I saw! A family of four: 'papa, mama, senior pikin, and junior pikin' carrying dirty sack bags on their heads, immediately, my curiosity was aroused! Then I said let me trail these guys and see what they were carrying, and where they were going! After trailing them for a long distance/ journey, then I discovered that they were scavengers! In awe, and disbelief, I'd exclaimed and asked myself!...a whole family scavenging in order to survive?
FIRST PHOTO; is the last kid, age between 9-10 years old
SECOND PHOTO; is the first son age between 11-12 years old, he was the first to arrive at the selling point, you can see that he is sorting the garbage/ market
THIRD PICTURE; their father walking barefooted, when you look at the photo of the father, you'll see that from afar there is a little school boy also staring at the father and the last child, a mild drama was played out at that moment, the mother of the little boy and his sisters had already boarded an autorigshow (keke) but the little boy has refused to follow them in, he stood outside staring at the scavengers...only God knows what was in the mind of that child
LAST PHOTO; when we all arrived at the selling point, then I looked at the other direction, there, I saw their mother coming to join them; I tried to know about the transaction, then the buyer (a Hausa guy) approached me (because I looked suspicious) and asked me, 'hope it is OK', I replied him in Hausa, 'yes it is'...I lost my way, then I left them there!
My advice to every single person/bachelor out there is that; things are not longer getting better in this country, always get yourself prepared before getting a woman pregnant or married, don't allow anyone to push you into unprepared marriage and thereafter remained unarranged and scattered for the rest of your life! Thank you all
LOCATION IS PORT HARCOURT, THE CAPITAL OF RIVERS STATE. NIGERIA THE GIANT OF AFRICA!
MODIFIED: those of you quoting me that I am jobless...as a trained journalist, this is how we carry out investigative journalism There's so much money in garbage business. I was in obudu cross rivers recently. I met this Hausa guy from Katsina who's based in Obudu. Guy makes an average an average of nothing less than 800k monthly. So don't be too quick to assume everyone you meet is poor. Heck this guy even has a secretary a d a cleaner he employs and he's paying them 40k monthly. Like I said, don't be too quick to jump into conclusions based on what you see. |
Politics › Re: Is This Not An Injustice Against Ndi Igbo by burp18: 5:29am On Oct 25, 2024 |
coputa: They Are Helpless And Can Only Watch As Their People are Kị́lled and Injustice Prevail Against Their People - That's Exactly The Plight Of Ndị́ Igbo In Nigeria
Tinubu has not only refused to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He has also refused his lawyer's access to him for the past month.
These things are happening and no Igbo governor, Senator, traditional ruler, or religiou leaders is talking.
But how can they talk when their position is at risk? Should they talk tough about the injustice meted out to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, their everything will be lost.
How can a Senator talk when their corruption is staring them in the face. Do you want the Nigerian government to deploy EFCC, DSS, and NAFDAC against them? They will always have something to blackmail them with.
Asking Traditional rulers and Church leaders in the East to talk is like forcing the deaf and dumb to talk. They get goodwill donations from the government and talking against the evils ravaging his people will not only mean poverty for them but also facing a jail term.
Should a top businessman dare comment on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's unjust treatment by Nigerian government, his goods will be ceased, and his business destroyed. Do you remember Ibeto Cement? That's what Igbo people suffer in Nigeria.
Nigeria is a wị́cked country that hăte Igbo people.
Brothers your governors and Senators are all helpless. They are complete slaves to the one Nigeria Fulani-controlled government.
Do you think if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a Fulani man or Yoruba man he will still be in jail?
Kabiru Sokoto was the one that bombed Madula Catholic Church kị́lling more than 70 people. He was Fulani and a Northerner. He was taken in by a Northern Senator. He was later arrested and also freed. That's after kị́lling lots of people.
As I write this, no Fulani herdsmen terrorists are in jail or under trial for kị́lling many Nigerians in their villages. 300 hundred were murdered in Agatu Benue State in just one-night attack. More than 30 kị́lled in Uzouwani Enugu State. To this very day, no Fulani is standing trial anywhere in Nigeria.
Sunday Igbogho was quickly freed. He is Yoruba, claiming to be fighting for the Oduduwa Republic, but the Nigerian government doesn't find him a threat.
But Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, an Igbo, the leader of Indigenous people of Biafra asking for referendum, has been held for four years now by the Nigerian government. Even when the court freed him, the Nigerian government still refused to free him. They have kept him away in a DSS dungeon, and now they have refused his lawyers to see him.
It is a helpless situation for every Igbo out there in Nigeria. I watched a Video of Kanayo O Kanayo talking about how he travelled from another Yoruba state to Lagos without seeing a single police or military checkpoint. But from Enugu to Anambra and Onitsha to Owerri, you will see hundreds of military and police checkpoints. Igbo land is under military cage. They have imprisoned us. Igbo land is now a giant prison yard. And we all are prisoners.
Forget the affluence. Forget the security men following these Igbo governors and Senators. They are all puppets enjoying little from the oppressors in other to control all of us for the Fulani control government. Yes, I said Fulani controlled Nigerian government because even Tinubu is also under their control, while Fulani is directly loyal to the British government.
My dear friends,
We have to keep educating our people. We have slaves, puppets and petty thieves as political leaders in Igbo land.
Shameless people who can't even stand tall to demand justice for their brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. When Orji Ụzọ Kalu was under persecution by the Nigerian government, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not keep quiet. He spoke out loud and demanded he should be released. This outburst helped.
None of these people are Igbo leaders. None. Leaders should be courageous to defend their people. Not people who will celebrate someone who committed genocide against their people and ask his people to forget the kị́lling of 3.5 million of their people.
Ndi Igbo, you have only one leader, and his name is Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Elochukwu Ohagi, Philosopher, Teacher and Activist, 2024. You should not compare Nnamdi Kanu with Sunday Igboho. Sunday Igboho did not call for the head of anyone. Nnamdi Kanu on the other hand was soliciting for money for ammunition to kill the Nigerian people. Many police stations were burnt with many police men, soldiers killed. Which makes Nnamdi Kanu a terrorist. Even till this day, his UGM is still killing people. Nnamdi Kanu jumped bail and decided to escape when he was released on bail. If Nnamdi Kanu case is that important, your politicians would have been solidly behind him. But his case is clearly not worth losing their positions over |

It's a very dicey situation because the soldiers can't harm or touch the protesters. A case of someone coming to cry to you for help. They just can't help it and who knows,,, eventually they just might listen to them. Tinubu has lost control of this government as it stands.
