Good day guys, I'd like to congratulate everyone who's gotten their visas recently. I have one question; do They ask for bank statement at POE and if so, can I use d statement I used for my interview in June. My POE is JFK and I'm going first week August. Anyone else going during that time frame and using the same POE? |

LagosNIV: There are penalties outlined in the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act for both illegal presence in the United States and for removal by law enforcement during illegal presence. There is also the fact that any VO reviewing your application will have to determine whether they believe an individual who already has a history of breaking U.S. laws can be trusted to use any visa in the future appropriately. As difficult as an individual's circumstances may be at the time, the best option is to avoid any problems by complying with the law.
All applicants are given equal consideration under the law; visas which allow you to cross international borders are a privilege, not a right. Dear LagosNIV please does the embassy work on Sunday's because you seem to be answering questions even by this time of the night which I must say is very nice and helpful |

bigfrancis21: The reason for her deportation is clear - she was issued a visitor's visa which was supposed to be for tourism and visit only for her to carry along her educational certificates, thus indicating one with an ulterior motive to enroll in school on arrival in the US and abusing her visa for purposes not it is originally intended for. What plausible reason could a supposed visitor to the US give for having educational certificates, transcripts etc. in her possession? Aren't you supposed to be visiting and sight-seeing? What are carrying your certificate for? Isn't it clear that you have hidden plans to go to school in the US? It is stark obvious that she obtained the wrong visa for her plan (to study) and it is only right that her visitor's visa is cancelled and she goes back to the American embassy to obtain the right visa for her purpose - the F1 visa. Sorry, but that is how the US immigration law works. It is either A or B, there is no in-between.
Her flying Etihad is not the issue. The issue is that she exposed herself by leaving her educational certificates where they could easily be seen. Had she properly stashed away her educational certificates in her check-in luggage or box, she would have been fine. Transferring to F1 status (notice I did not say F1 visa but F1 status as status and visa are two different things. A visa is a permit allowing you to travel and re-enter a country within a specified time frame, say 2 years. Your visa has nothing to do with your status. Status refers to one's legality in the foreign country based on one's visa. A business man who obtains a B1 visa and enters the US and conducts his business transactions is in status (his conducts being in line with the category of visa given to him) or a foreign student with 2-year F1 visa who enters the US and enrolls in school, let's say for Masters, is in F1 status and if after his 2 years of Masters he continues onto PhD, he is still in status even though his 2-year visa may have expired. He would only need to renew his visa if he wants to travel out of the country and re-enter the US) from B1/B2 while in the US is difficult anyway, with a 90% denial rate as you would have to prove the sudden change of mind to study after arrival in the US and prove it was never your ulterior motive to do so. So does that mean that if I finish my first degree (nursing) and want to move into medical or dental school and I get admission, I do not need to come back to Nigeria to get another visa as long as I'm a student? Cc slimmy05 walspring please everyone I need ur opinions |

Notonlyamerika: That's normal, f1 visas are valid for 2yrs. Ur 2yr visa is used only for entering the US. While in US, U are covered by ur status (f1 status) which is valid for the whole period of ur course only if you do not breach ur status. U can only renew ur visa outside the US. Ok thanks |

Good day,
Dear VO, I was interviewed at the Lagos consulate general on the 10th of June for an F-1 visa, and I was approved. I understand that there were some technical difficulties in printing visas but on the Facebook page of the department of state on consular affairs, it states that all embassies are now in full operation and that they would work over the weekend that just passed to clear the backlog.
But up till now, I haven't gotten any notifications that my visa is ready. And when I try tracking it, it says that there is no status update for my passport number. And a lot of people who had their interviews after me have gotten theirs. I called you guys this morning and d lady told me that my passport has been issued and sent to d collection center but then d collection center said they are not with it
Please I would like to know what the problem is and how soon the visas will be ready.
Yours faithfully. (Modify) (Quote) (Report) (Share) |
