The Oyo State Police command on Tuesday said that a banker with a first generation bank has been arrested in connection with a N10m fraud.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Adewale Osifeso, in a statement made available to DAILY POST Tuesday night, SAID the suspect, Adeyemi Tosin, fraudulently siphoned the money from the account of one Mr. Oladele Adisa Quadri.

He explained that the suspect carried out his nefarious activity between 12 and 13th of this month.

Osifeso, while speaking further, confirmed that comprehensive investigations are still in progress.

He said that Tosin, a banker/marketer fraudulently siphoned the money from the victim who is 78 years old.

He added that the banker siphoned the money from the account of the victim domiciled at the Challenge Branch of the Bank.

He then urged members of the public to partner with the Police sharing of credible information.

“In a conscious effort to rid Oyo State off unscrupulous and sinister minded elements, Oyo State Police Command in an intelligence-led and purposeful driven operation under the constructive leadership of CP Ngozi Onadeko, has apprehended one Adeyemi Tosin ‘m’ age 36 years, a banker/marketer with a first generation bank who surreptitiously siphoned ten million naira (N10,000,000) from the account of one Oladele Adida Quadri ‘m’ age 78yrs with bank account domiciled at the Challenge Branch of the Bank between 12th-13th of August, 2021.

“Preliminary enquiry reveals that the victim’s dilemma began on the 12th July, 2021 after his ATM card got trapped at the bank’s Automated Teller Machine after a failed transaction at the Challenge, Ibadan branch and the aforementioned suspect, a Banker at the branch, was approached for assistance at the Banking Hall.

“The suspect, one Adeyemi Tosin ‘m’ age 36 years, after acquiring the details of his unsuspecting victim, then proceeded to open a virtual account with another bank where the victim’s money was lodged with the intention of gradual withdrawals at a later period.

“While comprehensive investigations are still in progress to crackdown the criminal network and other accomplices, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Ngozi Onadeko enjoins the good people of the state to partner with the Police in terms of sharing credible and timely information valuable in curbing criminality and birthing a peaceful Oyo State.”

The Nigerian Police Force on Tuesday, dismissed reports that the investigation panel on DCP Abba Kyari has submitted its report.

Recall that speculations and reports had it that the investigation panel on Abba Kyari had submitted its report to the Inspector General of Police.

Reacting on Tuesday, DCP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer in a statement, dismissed the speculations, including that of online reports.

According to the statement, “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public that the probe into the alleged indictment of DCP Abba Kyari by the FBI, being conducted by the NPF Special Investigation Panel (SIP), is still ongoing.”

The Force PRO told members of the public that, the panel has not submitted its report to the Inspector General of Police, as being wrongly reported in some news outlet and online platforms.

“The Force hereby reassures the public that the outcome of investigations by the probe panel would be communicated accordingly upon conclusion of the investigations,” The statement further said.

The Federal Government has reopened the Eko Bridge in Lagos State.

The bridge had been under repairs to traffic, but will now be accessible from Friday, August 13.

This was confirmed by Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, in a statement on Thursday night.

Popoola said the 10-week rehabilitation works on Eko Bridge were completed on schedule

He also said traffic would be diverted for the rehabilitation of the burnt Lagos Airport flyover from August 13.

“The Alaka to Costain section of Eko bridge which was closed to traffic since 4th June, 2021 will now be opened on Friday 13th Aug. 2021.

“The Honorable Minister of Works and Housing thanks the motoring public for their cooperation while the rehabilitation work was ongoing,” he said.

He, however, noted that additional works to be carried out on the Eko bridge would not require closure.

The Eko Bridge was shut on June 4, with traffic diverted for the second phase of the rehabilitation of the Costain-bound section of the bridge.

Justice M. M. Abubakar of Bauchi State High Court has convicted and sentenced Sarita Aliyu Bello, Managing Director of Workman Microfinance Bank, Bauchi.

She faced a two-count charge bordering on misappropriation and forgery brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Bello’s offences were contrary to Section 308 and 363 and punishable under Section 309 and 364 of the Penal Code Law.

Sometime in 2020, according to the EFCC charge, she misappropriated the sum of N4,786,700.

Bello used the password of the bank’s Head of Credit Unit, created fictitious names, generated fraudulent loan requests, approved and paid the same to herself.

The MD pleaded guilty to the charges when the EFCC presented evidence of the crime to her.

Justice Abubakar sentenced Bello to five years imprisonment and ordered the repayment of N3,786,700 to the bank through the EFCC.

Three arrested as customs intercepts pangolin scales, elephant tusks ‘worth N22bn’ in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has arrested three persons over alleged illegal exportation of pangolin scales and elephant tusks worth N22.3 billion in Lagos.

Hameed Ali, comptroller general of customs, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday.

Ali said the items seized included pangolin scales in 196 sacks weighing 17,137.44kg, elephant tusks weighing 870.44kg, and pangolin claws measuring 4.60kg.

He said the intercepted items were evacuated from Ijeoma street in Lekki, Lagos state, adding that three suspects in connection with the seizure have been arrested.

“Nigeria is a signatory to the CITES [Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora], hence cannot be used as a transit hub. This feat is a testimony of what sincere collaboration between nations can achieve for our world, and individual nations in particular,” he said.

“Already, three suspects who are non-nationals have been arrested. They are: Mr Traore Djakonba, Mr Isiak Musa and Mr Mohammed Bereta. The kingpin, Mr Berete Morybinet, is on the run thinking he can evade the long arm of the law.

“Security agencies at all entry and exit points are on red alert to track and arrest him to face justice. He is, therefore, advised in his interest to surrender himself to the NCS.”

Ali added that the arrested suspects would soon be charged to court.
