Crime / Killers Of Nasarawa State University Student Sentenced To Death By Hanging by businessMODE(m): 9:12am On Mar 24, 2017
Two of the four men tried for the 2012 murder of a general’s daughter, Cynthia Osokogu, are to pay the supreme price for the offence.

Okwumo Echezona Nwabufo and his nephew Olisaeloka Ezike are to die by hanging, Justice Olabisi Akinlade of the Lagos High Court said yesterday.

Justice Akinlade found them guilty of drugging, chaining and strangling Osokogu, who was a Nasarawa State University post-graduate student, to death at Cosmilla Hotel, Festac Town, Lagos, on July 22, 2012.

Orji Osita, 37, and Ezike Nonso, 29, were discharged and acquitted of the charge of recklessness, negligence and possession of stolen goods.

Osita, a pharmacist, had been accused of supplying Nwabufo with Rophynol, a sedative which was allegedly used on the deceased, without a prescription.

While Nonso was accused of buying her stolen Blackberry phones from Ezike.

Nwabufo, 37, Ezike, 27, Osita and Nonso were arraigned on February 8, 2013, on a six-count charge of conspiracy, murder, stealing, recklessness, negligence and possession of stolen goods.

They pleaded not guilty.

Delivering her judgment which began at 10:53am and ended at about 3:20pm, Justice Akinlade held that the state had proved the counts of conspiracy, murder and stealing beyond reasonable doubt.

She held that with its 10 witnesses and 17 exhibits, the prosecution’s case against Nwabufo and Ezike was uncontroverted and that the circumstantial evidence brought by the state was “cogent, complete, unequivocal and compelling.”

But the judge resolved in Osita and Nonso’s favour, doubts in the prosecution’s evidence against them.

Relying on the witnesses’ testimonies, Nwabufor’s and Ezike’s confessional statements and the circumstantial evidence, Justice Akinlade said: “The court has no doubt that the first and second defendants killed the deceased and if there are contradictions in their case, they are minor contradictions.”

Before passing judgment, the judge asked the defendants if they had anything to say.

Their counsel, Victor Okpara and Emeka Eze pleaded for mercy. Okpara added that Nwabufo was a first time offender who has “tremendous energy to do something worthwhile with his life. I urge this court to grant him a reformative sentence.”

In her response, Justice Akinlade said: “I have listened to the plea of counsel (allocutus). Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State says clearly that a person who commits murder shall be sentenced to death.

“In judgment, justice is required not only for the victim, but also for the society. In their attempt to steal Cynthia’s property, the first and second defendants stole her life. They were not even remorseful. But for the efforts of the police and the Ministry of Justice we wouldn’t have been able to do anything. This court cannot change the law.”

She sentenced Nwabufo and Ezike to 14 years imprisonment for stealing on the first count and three years imprisonment on the two counts of conspiracy to steal and commit murder.

On the second count of murder, Justice Akinlade said: “I pronounce the sentence of this court upon you, Okwumo Echezona Nwabufo and Olisaeloka Ezike, that both of you be hanged by the neck until you are dead and may God have mercy on your souls.”

In reaching its decision, the court considered, among others, whether the prosecution proved that there was a murder, the cause of death and whether it was the defendant’s actions that led to Osokogu’s death.

The prosecution, the judge said, not only proved beyond reasonable doubts that the deceased died, it also showed that she did not die a natural death and that her death was the direct result of the first two defendants’ action.

She said the witnesses’ testimonies were corroborated by the exhibits, which included the first convict’s laptop containing nude pictures of the deceased and those of other victims.

Nwabufo, who disowned his confessional statement in court, stated that the deceased was his fiancée, adding that he did not know how she died.

He said: “The late Cynthia was my girlfriend; we were close as the way lovers are before they get married.

“I promised her that I would marry her and she accepted but told me it is still early that I should wait till Christmas when I would visit her parents in Delta State.”

But the court held, among others, that his failure to provide basic information about the deceased, such as her hometown, her university and course of study, the date he proposed to her and the fact that he had never met or spoken to her family, suggested that his answers were contrived.

Reading from Nwabufo’s and Ezike’s disowned confessional statements, which were admitted after a trial-within-trial, the judge said it was immaterial whether they intended to kill the deceased or not, because they could be taken to intend the natural consequences of their action.

On Ezike’s statement, the court said: “There is ample evidence that he participated in the crime. He assisted in tying down the deceased. He bought the chain with which the deceased was chained. He acted in concert with the defendant. In such a case, it does not matter who did what.”

Nairaland / General / Nigerian Professor Finds Cure For HIV by businessMODE(m): 5:56am On Feb 02, 2017
If claims Professor Francis Otunta are anything to go by, then, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, might have discovered a drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS and MOST importantly an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution located at Umudike in Abia state, has announced the discovery of a drug which he claims is potent in the cure of the epidemic.

Otunta told newsmen at the university campus on Wednesday, February 1, that the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution.

He said that the breakthrough was made by Prof Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher in the university.

According to him, Ezeibe had presented the drug to the University management, Senate and Council, where he explained the processes he went through to arrive at his finding.

The VC also said that Ezeibe had equally presented the drug to his colleagues in the medical field and nobody had contradicted his finding.

“Prof. Ezeibe is a researcher in Veterinary Medicine and one may wonder how he discovered a drug to cure a human ailment,” he said.

He commended Ezeibe for the breakthrough, saying: “He has brought honour to the University and we are proud of him.”

Otunta said that the university was in the process of mass producing the drug for further clinical trials on persons living with HIV/AIDS in the country.

Ezeibe, who is a professor of Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Virology, said that the drug was produced with Aluminum Silicate and Magnesium Silicate (Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate).

He said that the two minerals “are already in use as medicines for the treatment of various animal and human diseases”.

He said that 10 persons living with the disease, “who volunteered’’, were made to apply through their doctor to the VC.

“They were treated daily with the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate (50 mg/kg),” he said.

Ezeibe said that the volunteers were subjected to monthly tests for viral loads and CD4-lymphocyte counts.

“With the antiviral effects of the medicine, its ability to reach all cells (as nanoparticles) and the lymphocytes, there is no more hiding place (sanctuary) for HIV,” he said.

He said that the medicine had been used to potentiate Ampicilin, Chloroquine, Piperazine and Sulphadimidin, among others, and could be a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria, if approved by relevant authorities.

According to him, “local and international medical companies will find the product as a veritable raw material”.

Ezeibe said that he presented the research findings to the World Virology Conference in Atlanta in 2015, and Antonio (Texas) in 2016.

Besides, he said that the results of the laboratory tests had been published in many international scientific journals, including the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, among several others.

He said that he is also about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with a U.S.-based Scientific Research Publishing, publishers of World Journal of AIDS, for the publication of his book “How I came about the cure for HIV/AIDS”.

Ezeibe, who said that the medicine was patented in August 2014 in Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to help him to secure international patency for the drug.

He said: “If commercialised, the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate would become an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.”

I hope that we are willing to find solution to it. I would be the last person in this world to believe that government has not discovered those who are behind Boko Haram. Otherwise, we don’t have any intelligence service in our country. Are they sacred cows that cannot be brought to book? Until we cut the source of their supplies and get those who are involved, we cannot stop them. But the danger is this, and I must say it here, we are at the verge of a break up. That is the truth. It’s unfortunate. The Nigerian nation is too intelligent to claim not to have discovered those who are behind this. So, I really believe it’s all in the hands of the authorities to decide whether they want to confront the issue headlong or to keep watching it until Nigeria breaks up.

Religion / Re: DSS Arrests Apostle Johnson Suleman Over Comment On Fulani Herdsmen by businessMODE(m): 6:08am On Jan 25, 2017
THE Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA has expressed displeasure over what it terms the long silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over sectarian killings in Southern Kaduna as well as the inability of the Kaduna State government to guarantee safety and security of the Southern Kaduna people, saying such deliberate actions are unhealthy for national cohesion and peace. The church equally demanded that the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai rise to his responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens which he swore to protect and flush out Fulani herdsmen who forcefully took over farmlands belonging to Southern Kaduna people.

The church’s president, Rev. Jeremiah Gado, at a press briefing at the ECWA headquarters in Jos on Friday, said it was necessary to cry out and let the world know the injustices and pogrom being committed against Christians in the North despite efforts of the Church in providing education, sound medical care and other benefits to the entire region without discrimination. According to Gado, besides the pogrom targeted at Christian communities in the North, churches have suffered “demolition, confiscation of property, abduction, forceful marriage and conversion to Islam of young Christian girls, discriminatory employment against indigenous Christians” and the church has also been “denied renewal of expired land titles in many northern states with threats by the Government to recover the land which the Church has occupied for over 60 years.” He added:

“From November, 2015 alone, about 6,000 people including women and children have been killed in the area, nearly 10,000 people displaced and it is surprising that in the 21st century, not only are the Muslim Fulani militia carrying out modern day Jihad to force non-Muslims out of their ancestral land under the watch of democratically elected leaders, but are being supported with discriminatory policies to acquire land from the poor Christian farmers as grazing reserves for the exclusive use of the Fulanis.” Similarly, the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria known in Hausa language as Tarayyar Ekkkisiyoyin Kristi a Nijeria (TEKAN) has raised concern over the deliberate refusal of relevant authority to grant Christian children admission to study professional courses in federal tertiary institutions in the North, saying such does not augur well for the unity of the nation.

TEKAN, a body made up of 15 denomination churches, in a communique issued at the end of a 62nd session of its General Assembly and signed by its president, Rev. Emmanuel Dziggau and General Secretary, Rev. Moses Ebuga also condemned the appointment of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the General Secretary of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs as the Executive Secretary of JAMB as well as the prohibition of teaching of Christian Religious Knowledge, CRK in some schools in the country. According to the communique,

“The Assembly expressed great concern about admission into Federal tertiary institutions in the North which are denying Christian children placement into some professional courses like Law, Medicine, Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy which is against the citizenship rights. “We also condemn the appointment of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the General Secretary of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs as the Executive Secretary of JAMB having regard to his track records at the University of Ilorin.

We condemn the prohibition of teaching of Christian Religious Knowledge, CRK in some Nigerian schools.” The General Assembly of TEKAN also called on the Federal Government to “ensure that the constitutional rights of the citizens as regards to freedom of worship, freedom to life and acquire landed properties in any state of a citizen’s choice is guaranteed” even as its condemns the denial of issuance of C of O for erection of church buildings by some state governments in the North and the recent demolition of two churches in Jigawa State.”

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari in his effort in fighting Boko Haram in the North East, the Assembly urged him to replicate same in Southern Kaduna and the entire Middle Belt of Nigeria as the intractable Fulani herdsmen-farmers challenge faced in the areas is causing much sorrow and pains in the nation.

Let Me Start From the Beginning...

Investment / How I Stopped Paying Konga N2,500 Monthly And The 25% Commision by businessMODE(m): 8:21am On Jan 04, 2017
Yeah the first time I heard Konga will be charging me N2,500 for selling on their platform, I wondered I they will still charge me the regular 20-25% commission on each sales I make.

If so, why waste time when I can start my own online store, sell my stuffs and ship them nationwide using indigenous logistics firm. Yes that's is what I did. I built my own site www.soupembassy.com myself and I can also accept payment online.

The only challenge I have now is driving traffic to my new site. Yes and getting people to trust me too. So instead of selling Nationwide, I focus on my area so I can easily do Cash on Delivery.

For adverts, I got a strategy too and its working for me. After all if you want to sell real on Konga, you will still have to pay for banner.

A lot of people launch e-commerce sites only to realize they lack an essential element. Six months in, after spending their nest egg, they ask: “You mean I need a pay-per-click campaign? But I didn’t budget for that.” Or, “I need Web analytics software? I had no idea.”

Assembling everything you need prior to launch will save you numerous headaches. And it will better prepare you to compete with established businesses, which are operating with full toolboxes.

As a business owner, your goals are to improve customer satisfaction, generate sales and maximize profits through your business. To achieve these goals, you have to acquire more customers and reach out to them across various locations. This will entail you spending money on rent, advertisements, marketing, distribution and much more.

However, we all know that quite a number of these expenses have become harder to maintain due to the unfavorable economic environment we find ourselves in. In fact, the Nigerian economy has been ranked 169 out of 181 economies for “ease of doing business” by the World Bank Doing Business 2016 Report.

For this reason, e-commerce serves as a great field to dive into for a business today. There is no denying the impact of how the digital age has transformed the manner in which our business goals can be achieved. According to the We are Social’s Digital in 2016 Report, about 97 million of the Nigerian population (184.6 million) are active internet users.

In a study conducted by Ipsos (a global market research company) Nigeria is Africa’s leading e-commerce nation in terms of potential and existing online shoppers, compared to other African countries (South Africa and Kenya).

These days, buyers are intrigued with the idea of shopping online. They like to view detailed images and videos, check availability and buy items via online and mobile tools. They want to order for their choice of product and receive electronic order confirmations with accurate shipping details on when their order will get to them.

It must be an item or service that few businesses already sell, one you can get for a low wholesale price or one about which you have a special knowledge. Something about what you sell has to let you stand out from the herd — at least a little bit — otherwise you’ll be trying to sell snow to Eskimos. And that’s discouraging.

1– A Business Plan
Writing a business plan seems daunting. You might say, “I’m starting a business, I don’t want to sit down and write a paper, like I’m in school.” But think of it this way: it’s free, and it will help you immeasurably. Real businesses have business plans.

2–A Reliable Source for Your Product
If you’re selling Soup like I do on www.soupembassy.com, are you confident the price of soup ingredients won’t going to skyrocket three months from now? Do you have more than one wholesale source? Hopefully yes, otherwise you could be in trouble. The best problem of all: if you make your product in your basement, can you handle success if you suddenly get 25 orders per day? Make sure your supply line is steady before you plunk down your money.

3–A Web Designer
Many Web design software packages are so easy to use that business owners think they can design their own site. That’s a mistake. Homemade Web sites aren’t like homemade cookies. No one likes the way they look. Worse, an ugly site makes shoppers wonder: should I enter my credit card number in this funky looking site? Select a Web design firm with great care, and be prepared to pay for quality work — you’ll get nowhere without it. On a related note, you’ll need a steady flow of product shots.

Politics / SSS Operatives Arrest Third Most Wanted Terrorist In The World by businessMODE(m): 12:38pm On Dec 29, 2016
The DSS confirm the arrest of third most wanted terrorist in the world Abu Al-Barnawi.

Al-Barnawi who was recognised as the leader of the Boko Haram sect by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS) was arrested by DSS operatives three months ago.

The DSS had said: “About six months ago, we burst a terrorist attack that was to happen in the United States. This earned the service a letter of commendation.

“In fact, President Barack Obama placed a call to President Muhammadu Buhari to acknowledge what we did.

“We did not make it a media issue because before you know it, there will be editorials asking us whether we had addressed security challenges in Nigeria before helping the US.”

Business / How To Make $2000 Monthly Promoting Other Peoples Products Online by businessMODE(m): 12:43pm On Dec 17, 2016
I get $150 for each referral i make and i make about 4 sales weekly. That Gives me about $2,400 monthly.

However, there is a lot more to starting an online business, it seems easy to start which it definitely is, but to make it successful is a whole different story. I’ll be honest with you that if you do not have proper guidance and support (especially if you are new to it), you can hardly ever succeed. If you would have met any successful business person in this world they will tell you that at some point in their life they’ve got a great mentor.

I'm delighted to share with you one of the most profitable model of making money online i have used and so far, I have doubled my income with this one awesome option -Affiliate Marketing.

Affiliate marketing is one of the major ways you can use to make money online in Nigeria especially if you don’t have your own products or services to sell. I have my own products and services, and I have been running other affiliate programs, but this one is just AWESOME.

The good thing about affiliate marketing is that you CAN make a huge amount of money online with 90% of the hard work, already DONE for you.

You can learn more about the products on my Online Business Business. CLICK HERE to read more.
Business / Here Is What I Do Instead Of MMM And Made About 2 Million In One Month by businessMODE(m): 10:51am On Dec 17, 2016
Want To Know How I Made N1.995m In One MONTH? >>>CLICK HERE When I started blogging, I was so focused on only one thing, which is to make money online. I'll always add something new to my website, and soon enough, my post will be up and running, my articles get ranked on Google. But that’s not the end, there were not much traffic and no income at all for my first 4 months.

In the first few months, I had been working my butt off through early mornings and late nights and it is really disheartening to see no results/payoff for the effort that I have made. I’ll be honest that there was a point that I wanted to call it quits.

Then i discovered what i was doing wrong and what i need to do right then i started all over again...

I found a program that pay me upto $150 as commission per sale... so far, i made about $4K.

I had tried so many other opportunities before, MLM, Stock Trader, Forex Trader, physical business, but failed. With $150 per sale, MMM is nothing. This kind of Affiliate Marketing is the only way to go because firstly, the cost is low and secondly, I can do it at my own pace. If it is not Affiliate Marketing, then I might as well quit the idea of making money online.

If you really want to learn how to generate recurring money online and be financially free, I would suggest that you CLICK HERE TO SEE. This is how I earn my monthly income online the legitimate way, and I believe anyone can do it.
