Hi guys. I paused this story because of a minor issue of plagiarism I was facing, wonder why every writers needs to face this.

The guy posting the story on WhatsApp -he was even acknowledging himself as the writer- got to the last chapter I posted here and saw that I had paused the story. Do you know what he did? He tried to make up the next chapter himself. But it didn't meet up with the rest of the story. I then stepped out publicly and accused him. I even showed his fans the cover picture. He was forced to delete the story.

To avoid embarrassment, and even a liability to be prosecuted for breaching my copyright rights, always contact me before posting the story anywhere. It's my sweat, don't enjoy its sweet behind my back!! Thank you!

Meanwhile the story resumes tomorrow. wink Thanks for reading. cheesy

I'm currently battling a case of plagiarism with this story, hence the pause. The guy posting the story on WhatsApp even declared he was the writer. I will resume updates as soon as I get the issue solved.

Devils for Supper

Chapter One

Lagos

Blessing Ekweremadu's impossibly hardheeled shoes knocked the ground furiously, in a demonstration of power as she walked into the huge detective company where she worked as a minor detective due to the level of her education. She just clocked twenty years few weeks ago. Her face was chocolate brown in colour. She was pretty too. With her handbag in hand, she looked like the uncommon beauty queen she was.

“Good morning,” she greeted the dozing receptionist, a thin lady who looked like she was tired of life and ready to die.

The lady quickly sat up and reopened the huge book in front of her that had been closed by the breeze from the whirling ceiling fan upwards. She threw a surprised smile at Blessing. “Good morning detective.”

Blessing smiled in return, she wondered what was wrong with her before walking away. The sounds from her hard-soled shoes were already sucked away by the steady hum from the whirring of the ceiling fans. Blessing retucked her skirt as she walked along. She came across several of her colleagues who avoided her like a leper. She was wondering what was wrong when she bumped into Abayo, one of the workers in the organization.

“I'm terribly sorry,” she apologized. He only nodded his head and tried to avoid her. She grabbed his hand, Abayo wasn't like this. “Abayo, what's really going on? Everyone is avoiding me. Is there something wrong?”

Abayo looked at her with eyes dimmed. “I'm sorry but I have some work to attend to.” He tried to leave again.

Blessing grabbed him again and began to kneel down. “Please Abayo, tell me what is wrong. You people are scaring me.”

Abayo pulled her up just before her knees touched the floor. “I shouldn't be telling you this,” he paused and hung his head. “The boss is terribly angry right now.”

Blessing's curiosity and attention piqued. “Why? You're scaring me!”

His voice lowered down to a whisper. “The missing box of money we recovered from the last case we had was found in your office.”

Okay, this is weird, thought Blessing. “This is an expensive joke, Abayo. Go straight to the point.”

“Sorry it's the truth. I shouldn't be telling you this. I have to go,” he excused himself and bolted.

Blessing's legs shook as she walked the rest of the way to her office. That wasn't possible, Abayo was just pulling her legs. How can the box of money be found in her office when she didn't know a single thing about the case self? With heavy heart and shaky hands, she opened the door to her office. The office was empty but disarrayed. Her heart beat furiously as she dropped her bag on the table. Suddenly, her door opened behind her.

The messenger, a vulture like lady hopped into the office, an enormous headtie attached to her head.

“Good morning, Blessing,” she greeted clumsily, adjusting her massive headtie. “The boss needs you in his office.” And she fled the office before Blessing could say Jack, her headtie grazing the door frame.

Blessing grabbed her handbag, alarmed. She walked lifelessly to the boss's office, her colleagues avoiding her like a boil in the genital area. She got to the boss's office, knocked on the door and froze. After hearing no reply, she opened the door. The boss and other members of the management team sat in the office, an opened box containing loads of cash on the table. Blessing froze as the realization hit her. Her handbag dropped to the floor.

“Speaking of the devil herself,” sneered her boss as he glared at her.

Blessing's head spun and she fell on her knees. What had she done to her chi to have warranted this?

“You need not plead,” voiced a fat lady, with awfully painted face. She looked more like a duck. “You ain't escaping this! Village dog.”

“Despite how I treated you, Blessing? I gave you a job as a detective, not that you are qualified or educated for it. Is this how you choose to pay me?” her boss said painfully.

Blessing was crying now, rivulets of tears dribbling down her cheeks. “I swear to Chineke who made me, I know nothing about the money. God is my witness.”

Mrs Toke, the fat lady spoke again. She had always detested Blessing, more because she was not of the Yoruba tribe. “Good heavens! She is even shedding crocodile tears with those miserable eyes. Plain illiterate from the village!” she spat.

Blessing was speechless. Instead tears raced down her eyes the more.

“I hate thieves and pretenders!” one of the men said.

“I don't want to see you here forever again. I ought to get you locked up but I will have pity on your miserable parents. You are to vacate the room you're living in. I don't want to ever see you again, so leave this city for good!” declared the boss.

Blessing was shocked and alarmed. “I have nowhere to go if you do this to me!” she cried.

“You might as well go to hell!” cursed Mrs Toke.

“This company being a privateowned one, I won't tolerate nonsense. I don't care wherever you go, I just don't want to see you here again!” reiterated the boss.

The boss reached into his pocket and took out a slim wad of cash, he flung it at Blessing. “That's your pay for the month, reduced to half. Now kindly leave the company as far as your legs can carry you or I might change my mind and turn you over to the police.”

Blessing caught the cash, if she rejected it, how would she get the money to leave the city? With tears streaming down her face, she grabbed her handbag and ran out of the office, her shoes clicking in protest.

Mbaino

The early morning sun was bright, sending out a furious beam of golden yellow light. The air was still and heavy, unusual for so early a morning. Birds flew above, for their morning play. And business went on in the village as well.

Right in the village square, two women were seen gossiping, whispering and clapping their hands in frenzy.

“I heard she was kidnapped,” one of the women said.

“Hmm. And her mother didn't raise an alarm?” another replied, looking bewildered.

“She did! You were busy gossiping round the village that you didn't notice the alarm,” the third one said, clapping her hands.

The second woman glared and moved towards the former. “Did you just call me a gossiper?”

“What if I did?”

“I will have your eyes plucked out, you adulterous woman. Did your current husband know adultery led to the death of your former husband?”

The second woman flew at the third woman and they locked in a combat. The first woman quickly separated them.

“This is stupid, fighting so early in the morning? Do you know it is an offence? Ifukwa gi!” the first woman said and turned away.

The two women glared at each other for a moment and then separated.

Mama Nneka walked lifelessly in front of the little crowd of people walking behind her at the bush path. She was scared, Nneka had never spent the night anywhere apart from home, not to talk of the fact that she hadn't returned from the stream since the previous night. This was the third time she would be coming to the river to look for her again.

“Has she ever stayed the night anywhere else?” a voice asked from behind.

“Mba nu,” she shook her head. “She is always at home to sleep.”

Mama Nneka was frightened, in the past one month, three girls have been killed in mysterious ways. Going missing and then found with mutilated bodies and overstretched p***sies. She hoped and silently prayed her daughter hasn't encountered a similar fate.

Suddenly, an odour hit her. It was more like a freshly dead corpse.

“Tufiakwa!” a voice spat from behind. “What's that terrible smell?”

Suddenly, Mama Nneka got suspicious and started running, towards the direction of the odour, her bare foot trampling dry leaves on the path. She burst into the open space beside the river. The smell was stronger here.

At first, she saw nothing, then, suddenly, as the other people came closer, she saw the body beside the river. She ran towards the body.

The corpse was a girl, mutilated and lifeless. The girl was Nneka.

My followers from Revenge, another story has landed cheesy wink

Prologue

It was sunset already in the village of Mbaino. The sky was a golden orange, lit up by the light from the setting sun. Birds chirped and flew across the sky for the evening games. Their melodious songs resonated round the village as they played. A gentle breeze was blowing, swaying and manipulating the trees and plants into dancing a forced, glorious dance.

Mama Nneka dashed out of the mud house, clutching a clay pot. In her mouth danced a long chewing stick, digging into the crevices of her teeth to get rid of food remnants. She stared at her goat and her kids as they fed on green palm fronds she had earlier ordered Obinna, her son to get for them. She threw away the contents of the pot and turned back inside.

She walked inside and froze at seeing something. Nneka, her seventeen-year-old daughter lay on the floor, sleeping soundly.

“Chi m'O!” Mama Nneka screamed as she reached out for the pestle standing beside her and walked up to her.

Nneka's eye flashed open as she saw her mother approaching with a pestle and she quickly scrambled up and fled for dear life.

“You should have waited, ogbanje! You should have waited until I strike this against your round, plaited head. You would then have known that one don't sleep while his/her mother cooks the family's food. Ekwensu! Ewu,” Mama Nneka swore angrily at Nneka.

“Before I snap my fingers, get into the house now and get the water pot. And go to the river and get water for me. You heard me?” she asked.

“Yes, mama,” Nneka replied from outside.

%%%%%%

Nneka dug her teeth into the tamarind fruit as she broke into a fast walking rhythm. It was dusk already and her mother won't be pleased with her as she was late already. It was the stupid tamarind, it had been so difficult to pluck. The tantalizing thought of how it would taste like kept her spending minutes before she finally succeeded in plucking it.

Now, as she balanced the water pot on her head, she felt very worried. Even the dark bush path she was taking worried her. The eerie sounds of evening crickets and birds made her scared. She couldn't run so that the pot on her head won't fall. So she kept moving at a fast pace.

Suddenly, the bush to her right side rustled and as she tried to scream, she saw the person jump out of the bush and seeing him, she felt relieved.

“You scared me!” she accused as she watched him as he rose.

He still took her breath away anytime she sees him. He was handsome and muscular in build. Every girls had a ‘spot’ for him but he kept saying he had his own fiancé.

“So you can be scared?” he laughed. “So easily?”

Nneka shone her eyes at him. And when he saw her look, he smiled and threw up his hands in mock surrender.

“I'd better be going,” Nneka voiced out. “Mama will turn me to foofoo. I'm late already.”

“Here, let me help you with the pot,” he said and went behind her.

Nneka smiled and waited for the pot to be lifted off her head. After seeing no action, she turned to look and suddenly she felt something heavy descend on her head. She fainted even before she reached the ground.

How was this?

Chapter Twenty Four

NASCAO's Branch Office, Nyar

The Head of Technical Operations, Mr. Ojukwu Sengal, popularly called Senegal, after an African country stared at the man as he entered his office. He was sent here from the headquarters in the F.C.T after the continuous hacking of the state system. His name was Alan Wills, a famous computer wizard. A Nigerian-Acelander, he was well known in the country for his experience in the technological world of Aceland. He was tall, slim and light-complextioned. Oh, and he was good-looking too. Looks can deceive anyway, Senegal thought as he watched the man. He hadn't seen him nor had he seen him work before, so he doubted the man's expertise despite his fame. Senegal cut off his thoughts abruptly. Let's see what he's got, he resolved.

“Welcome to NASCAO, Nyar branch once again.” Senegal hoisted himself up to shake the man.

“Thanks. It is nice meeting you people,” Alan replied, smiling as he looked round the office.

Senegal tried hard not to wince at the man's confidence. “It's a pleasure. Please do have your seat.” He smiled, hiding the anger boiling within him.

Alan sat down comfortably in the leather seat beside the table, directly opposite Senegal. He dropped the stack of files he had been holding on the round table.

“So, let's get down to business,” Alan said, his smiling face replaced with a grim look.

Senegal reached for his drawer and brought out a file. He opened it to a particular page and handed it to Alan. “We are having serious problems here, like you were told. Assassinations are getting more rampant as the entire peaceful aura of Nyar has disappeared. The one mysterious thing is that, somehow we don't find footages from the surveillance cameras. The system kept informing us they have been deleted. We once tried to trace the two different sources that the server declared deleted the footages, after the recent murder of Chief Martins Adebayo. It was a dead end, one of the sources was directing us to Mars, the other led us nowhere.”

“Hmmm,” Alan hummed as he knew what was up. The criminals were experts.

“Our best men tried their best,” Senegal continued. “But it seems those people are more smarter.”

“I see,” Alan said as he kept nodding his head slowly and thoughtfully, tapping his right forefinger on the table. “Do you mind if I take some minor look at your system.”

Senegal couldn't wait to see what this famous man has got as he shrugged his shoulder. “No, I don't! Why, that's what you are here for! Let's go to the control room.”

He stood up and Alan followed suit. They walked out of the office side by side with Alan towering over him. Everywhere and everyone was busy. Ladies and men in starched shirts and skirts or trousers marched around, each clutching a file or some disks or a laptop. As they walked past, several of them stopped to look at the renowned computer geek. Some were confused at what he was doing there, some ladies practically drooling and some just staring for staring sake.

They soon got to the control room. It was a large room, bombarded with computers, projectors and huge flat monitors showing the footages of different parts of Nyar. Huge wire cables ran from one part of the walls to the other. Only five people were in the room, four men and a lady, each busy at his own system. Only the lady turned to look at the intruders before turning back to her system.

“Come with me,” Senegal said and walked up to a particular computer, which looked special. “This is the system where we store our data. You can use this.”

Alan sat in front of the computer, it was already switched on. He looked at the list of softwares displayed on the screen before choosing one. He then set to work, typing furiously as he broke into encrypted areas. Senegal was surprised at how deftly he worked. He watched as Alan dove into zones he never knew existed in the system. His feeling soon changed, he started hoping Alan wouldn't destroy certain things in the system with the way he was working. He was still lost in thought when Alan screamed, attracting the attention of others in the room.

“Tell me this is a lie!” Alan said in rage. “How could no one have noticed another person has hacked into the system again, controlling the footages?”

“What!” Senegal yelled in confusion as he looked at Alan in bewilderment. Other occupants of the room came running.

“Yes. And infact…,” he paused and clicked on a link. A live footage showed on the screen. Senegal and other men watched the events in the footage with shock and soon it hit him.

“They are tailing the Minister!” Senegal interjected.

“Yes, and in fact they are close to him,” Alan replied as they watched as a car tailed two cars in which one of the latters contained the Minister. Suddenly, the screen went blank.

“Okay, I guess the area does not have surveillance cameras,” Alan said. “Let's get the location of the last place they were seen.” He zoomed the screen and typed something. A location appeared on the screen.

Senegal read it quickly. “I can't believe this, they are at Oha settlement. The Minister has a house there. Someone contact the police, I hope it isn't too late.” One of the people left the room quickly.

“I hope so. Little wonder why you guys can't combat the criminals,” Alan piped up in disappointment. He turned back to the system, leaving Senegal aghast.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°
The Divisional Police Station, Nyar

Desmond couldn't believe his ears after he hung up the call he got from the NASCAO. Oha settlement! Mehn, that was a long way from this part of the city. But still, there shouldn't be time for delay. He hastened out of his office to contact Carl. He ran into Carl at the door, a bewildered look plastered on his face too.

“Tell me you've heard too?” Desmond enquired.

“Yes, and as a matter of fact, we need to be fast before they kill the Minister.”

“How do we go about it? From here to Oha settlement is a thirty minutes drive, holding out possibilities of traffic and that is a long time. Long enough for the assassins to kill the Minister.”

“Special Agent Agbor told us to take the helicopter. That way, we would be there in less than fifteen minutes.”

“That is an awfully long period of time though but still preferable. I only hope we are not too late,” Desmond hoped.

“I hope so too. C'mon,” Carl urged.

Desmond dashed back into his office, picked up his gun and walked back outside. He and Carl ran to where the helicopter was kept. The pilot was already outside.

As the copter took off, Desmond hoped they wouldn't be too late.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Ann zoomed along the road, paying no attention to traffic signs. She only wanted to get far away from the reach of the assassin. After some minutes of crazy driving, she stopped the car and tapped the device in her ear. She connected to Henry.

“Henry, what have you got?”

“Boss, I'm sorry but the police is aware of what is happening,” announced Henry.

“What!” Ann was shocked. “How did they know?”

“Someone got hold of the footages I was hiding. I think the person is smart because he is trying to drive me out of the system too. I'm only trying my best to hang on.” Henry declared with a frustrated tone.

“Well,” Ann sighed. “Do you know where Oyin and Shira are currently?”

“Yes, I think he has a house at a settlement called Oha. From the footages, I think Oyin and Shira have trailed him down there.”

“Do you know how I can get to the place?” Ann asked.

“Yes, just give the location to your car's GPS,” said Henry.

Ann checked to see if the car has the GPS feature and was glad to find that there is. “Do keep me updated,” Ann said to him.

“Sure boss,” replied Henry.

Ann disconnected from him. She punches a particular key and an animated voice sprang to life, “Location please?”

“Oha settlement,” she pronounced it the way Henry said it.

“Start your vehicle,” the voice began.

Police or no police, Ann, as she started the car was determined. She would kill the Minister that very day.

°°°°°°°°°
Miri jumped over the dead bodies, as she ran to an area of the wide, airy compound where many cars were parked. She was sure the assassin and her cohorts knew where the Minister was and it was up to her to speed down to that location before they could do any harm.

She hopped into the nearest car, an SSC Tuatara, a crazily fast kind of car, if not one of the fastest on earth. She wondered what the heck the Minister was doing with such an expensive monster car. Before starting the car, she reached for her iPhone and dialled the Minister's number.

This time, he didn't pick up on time. Before he picked up, Miri was already anxious as she wondered if the man has been murdered. After the third attempt, he picked up.

“Hi,” he greeted in a somewhat breathless voice.

“Is anything wrong?” Miri asked.

“Yes, we're under an attack here!” his scared voice piped in.

“Lock the place where you are in up!” she warned sternly. “Don't allow them come near you. I told you to be careful, didn't I? And, how did they even entered your building? Hell, your stupid guards are just plain lame. Just lock everything, I'll be there in a jiffy, should I say ten minutes?” and she hung up the call.

Reversing the car, she proceeded to move out of the compound, avoid the corpses on the floor. She was nearing the gate when she remembered the Minister's wife was still tied to the dining table. Well, let her remain there, she resolved, at least she is safe for now.

With furious speed, she drove out of the compound and started speeding away, off to Oha settlement.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Some minutes earlier

After waiting for some minutes, Oyin knocked on the gate again after no sound was forthcoming from inside. This time, he continued banging on the gate until the click click sound of footsteps was heard. The gate opened to reveal a short barrel like guard.

He frowned at them. “Hello, who are you guys? Is there any problem?”

“Yes, there is,” Shira cut off the guard. “We want to see the Minister!”

The man froze, suddenly he yelled, “They are here!” and proceeded to close the gate. Shira threw herself at him and pulled him back. She whipped him across the face with her bare palm and with all her might, flung him to the ground. In a flash, she brought out her pistol and knocked it on his head. The guard fell down, unconscious.

Oyin and Shira entered the compound only to behold about eight unarmed guards approaching. In the distance, thunder rumbled and the sky darkened the more. A mighty wind began to blow, closing the opened gate with a loud clang.

Without wasting time, Oyin and Shira opened fire at the men, Oyin being the more accurate shooter. About five men soon fell down dead while three others continued to dodge. All of a sudden, Shira's gun clogged up. She quickly threw it away and felt her body for the other pistol. It was nowhere to be found. Her throat went dry, and she quickly went to hide behind Oyin who soon got two of the men while the other one fled inside.

Suddenly, five muscular unarmed guards appeared from the back. Shira quickly turned to combat them when she heard Oyin yell, “The gun is out of bullets!” Shira froze, the men were fast approaching them and it was too late to load the pistol.

“Guess it's time for hand combat,” she said as she craned her neck and curled her hands into a fist. The five muscular guards surrounded the duo.

To be continued.

I need to see encouraging comments before I drop the next update. If encouraging, I'll drop another update today. But if not, I have no choice than to keep the story at a slower pace sad

Chapter Twenty Three

The place was gradually darkening as clouds chased each other across the sky. The atmosphere turned cool as gentle breeze began to manipulate the branches of surrounding trees and plants, causing them to dance a forced, glory dance. Birds chirped and flew in huge flocks across the sky, eager to get to their comfortable nests.

Sara pried open the pot of beans bubbling on the stove and flung the cover away as it stung her palm. She watched as the beans danced in the hot pot. She then reached for a bottle where she stored salt, opened it and sprinkled some salt into the beans. She lowered the intensity of the flames and proceeded to move out of the makeshift kitchen, a blocked off section of the one room apartment. She glanced at her sleeping one-year old son who was snoring peacefully on a mat. She dashed out of the house and rushed to the back where she had earlier hung her clothes to dry. She grabbed the still wet clothes - she washed them only an hour ago - and hurried back inside the house. She flung the clothes on the lone chair in the room and was about to go back to the kitchen when the faint sound of a motor vehicle came from the untarred road that swept across the front of the house. Curiously, as it was rare for cars to come to that small settlement, she dashed out and watched as two big cars passed by, coated in red dust, leaving a trail of dust behind. Other inhabitants of the settlement were outside too, amused and bemused by the rare sight. Children with protruded bellies, enormous heads and thin limbs ran about, feeling excited about the cars.

After the cars had passed, few minutes later, Sara and others flew out again to behold another red-coated car, speeding crazily. As it zoomed by, Sara noticed a pistol in the hands of the male driver as he manipulated the steering wheel. Her heart piked in fear.

“Guns!” she screamed and turned back into the house, locking the door firmly after her.

Ann glared at Miri before dodging the blow that came her way effortlessly. Her mind was not on the fight, she wanted to get out of the house and contact Oyin and Shira. She wouldn't let the killing of the Minister slip by her fingers, her first major assignment.

Miri could see she wasn't ready to enjoy the fight and was none the happiest. This would be so easy more than she thought.

“Let's see how you will be able to kill him. Your men can't even get him,” Miri taunted.

“That is none of your fucking business!” yelled Ann as she dodged another punch. She threw a blow which Miri blocked easily.

“Is that all you've got?” Miri sneered.

Ann didn't reply, she was frustrated. She thought of what to do. Suddenly, she brought out her Glock, cocked it and pointed it at Miri. “Leave me this moment! I'm not ready for you!”

Miri marvelled at how quick she brought out the pistol as she took two steps back, arms raised. “Easy baby girl.”

“Get out of my way!” Ann screamed at her and Miri stepped aside. Ann began to walk backwards towards the front door, gun pointed at Miri. When her back hit the door, she quickly turned, opened the door and shut it behind her. She walked right into the guards and without thinking, she opened fire and gunned them down. Soon, ten bodies littered the ground. Ann ran to the gate, opened it and dashed out. She started running, not knowing where exactly she was going. She stopped after several minutes of running and tapped the device in her ear. She connected to Henry.

“Henry, are you there?”

“Yes boss.”

“Good, I want you to find a way to get into the NASCAO server. I want you to trace the movement of Oyin and Shira and the Minister's car they are following.”

“What happened?” an alarmed Henry asked.

“Another brilliant assassin is working for the Minister. She directed him to leave this vicinity far behind as we're waiting for him at home. Oyin and Shira is on his trail and I don't have any idea where they are presently.”

“On it,” he declared with a pained tone.

“Good, contact me when you are done. Be fast about it.” She disconnected from him.

She tried connecting to either Oyin or Shira but they weren't reached. Sighing, she continued running along the empty road, her eyes and ears looking around for any sign of being followed.

Suddenly, her eyes caught the sight of a parked car beside the road. She stopped running and walked over to the car. In the front part of the car was a man and a lady, smooching, kissing and hugging each other at intervals. Disgusted, Ann brought out her Glock and tapped it against the window. They unlocked from their entanglement and as they saw the pistol in her hands, their previous angered expression changed to that of fear.

“Open this door this minute!” thundered Ann.

The lady who was nearest to the door quickly opened it.

“I want both of you to get out now!”

They scrambled out of the car, looking bedraggled and terrified. Ann hopped into the car, closed the door, turned the ignition switch and without sparing a glance, she zoomed off, leaving the confused couple yelling and screaming.

Oyin stopped the car few metres to the compound the two cars earlier entered. He nudged Shira.

“Since we've got no words from the boss, I think it is best we go inside.”

“I wouldn't say that it's a nice idea but we have no choice. So, we move!”

“Let's move!” Oyin said and opened his own door. Shira did the same.

They walked smartly to the front of the compound. Oyin tucked his pistol under his belt, breathed in deeply and rapped on the gate.
