Happy New Year guys

Chapter Twenty Two

Ann scaled the high wall effortlessly, making sure to avoid the electric wires on top of the fence. She landed on the other side and rolled expertly as she fell to prevent getting an injury. She tapped the device in her ears.

“Oyin,” she pronounced the Oyin like Hoe-yeen. “You can scale over, be careful of the electric wires!” she warned.

She then went behind a statue of a girl hawking what looked like oranges at the corner of the backyard. She squatted and squeezed herself into the little space at the back of the statue. Soon, she felt a shadow up and looked up to see Oyin at the top of the wall. She watched him as he dodged the security wires and landed but not as smartly as she did. He fell with a dull thud and he groaned. Ann quickly beckoned on him to come closer.

She connected to Henry. “Henry, we are in the compound now. Can you check if this way is clear enough for us to enter?”

“On it boss,” she heard Henry said. She heard the kpa-kpa-kpa sound of keyboards being typed. She really hoped this was worth it.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Miri proceeded to launch the vegetables in Shira's mouth when she heard a sound. A dull sound coming from the backyard like someone dropped from a wall. Of course, only she could hear the dull sound. She wondered what it was as she quickly dug out a rope from her pockets. She tied Shira to the foot of the dining table firmly and then dug a handkerchief into her mouth. She quickly snuck out of the dining room.

Her instincts were clearly working. She was sure the girls' accomplices had arrived into the compound. She walked into the kitchen which has its window facing the back of the compound directly. She glanced at the pot of soup on the cooker before walking to a corner of the huge kitchen where a stool was placed. She placed the stool against the window and climbed atop it. She could see the backyard clearly. At first, she sighted no one and then suddenly she saw a male body crouching behind the statue. It appeared the man wasn't alone behind the statue but she couldn't see who was beside him. She smiled and got down from the stool.

She walked out of the kitchen, past the tied girl in the dining area and walked to where she placed her iPhone on the dining table. As she picked the phone, a thought nibbled at her and she turned towards Shira. She walked up to her and she felt her pockets. Shira tried to struggle and Miri banged her right palm on her cheek, leaving her imprints on it. She then placed her left palm over Shira's mouth firmly and felt Shira's pockets with her left hand. She felt the shape of a phone. She reached into the pocket and brought out the phone. She then left Shira's presence l. She knew exactly what to do.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
“Yes boss, that way is safe,” Ann heard Henry said.

“Ok,” she said and tapped Oyin. “Let's move,” she said and stood up. With head bowed, she dashed stealthily to the back door and entered. Oyin followed suit. They entered an opened room nearest to the back door and closed the door.

“I think we should contact Shira and make her know we're here,” Oyin said.

Ann nodded and handed a phone to him. “Call her, but be very quick. The phone isn't encrypted and I don't want the network provider to start recording the call.”

Oyin collected the phone and dialled Shira's number. The phone rang but wasn't picked. In the distance, the sounds of sirens got louder, meaning that the Minister and his stupid convoy was almost there. Ann grabbed the phone, switched it off and turned to Oyin. “Let me go and look for her,” Ann said.

“Do be careful,” she warned Oyin and stepped out of the room, closing date door after her firmly but silently.

Ann walked through the lit corridor stealthily, hiding and stepping out, hiding and continuing. She didn't possess enough knowledge of the house. It surprised her that there were no guards in the house. Maybe the Minister was not a fan of guards, she concluded. She soon got to what looked like the living room and her eyes dashed to the dining area. What she saw shocked her. Shira was there, taped and tied to the dining table. She was disappointed in Shira and she stood watching her for a moment. Angrily, she turned away, she wasn't going to be the one to untie her. Let her bear the brunt herself. How could she be careless to get caught. Suddenly it hit her, no guards were inside. Who could have done so? She was about to turn back to the living room when an enormous woman opened in front of her. Ann recognised her, she was the Minister's wife.

The woman looked shocked at seeing her and was about to open her mouth to scream when Ann jumped at her, knocking her heavy body down to the floor. She slapped the woman and reached for her pocket. She brought out her Glock and waved it at her. The woman's eyes bulged in fear.

“See, I can just kill you with a click of this ‘baby’. There are suppressors attached to it, so there would be no much noise and nobody would suspect. If you don't want me to kill you, you just have to do a simple thing. Are you with me?”

The woman's eyes were closed, twitching with fear. “Yes, I am.”

“Now, be a good girl and open those god-damned eyes. Yes, and sit up! Good! I want you to cooperate with me, if you don't want me to kill you. All I want you to do is simple. Just go to that tied girl over there,” she pointed to the dining area. Shira was looking at them already, slightly amused by the sight. “...and untie her,” Ann concluded.

The woman stood up like a zombie and waddled in fear to Shira and untied her. Shira stood up quickly and pushed her aside, causing her to fall onto the dining table.

“Tie her!” she heard Ann ordered and she pushed Mrs Jude down to the floor. She then tied her just as she herself was tied a while ago. Shira then walked up to Ann.

“Boss, please, please be careful. A fellow assassin is right in this house, waiting for you...she is aware of your presence already. She tied me up.”

“I thought as much,” Ann said. “You know what? Go down the corridor and meet Oyin in the last room or should I say the first room you will meet when you enter the corridor from the back. Get him and you both should leave this place immediately. I will handle this.” She watched as Shira left her presence. Who was this assassin? She thought as she left the living room.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Miri watched as the last person left the living room from her phone. She knew what to do. She exited the app and dialled the Minister's personal number. The sirens were louder now, hinting he was near home. He picked up almost immediately, the background loud. Miri wasn't ready for pleasantries, not at this time.

“Dude, where are you?” she addressed him as if he was a commoner.

He sighed and replied, “I'm almost home.”

“Good. Now order your drivers to turn around and leave this area. You have other far away houses of yours you can go to, don't you?”

“Yes, but why?”

“Don't question me. Your killers are right in the house now, waiting for you to come home and then kill you. So get out of this area and leave this place far behind to another place where we can plan how to get you out of the country.”

He was silent for a while, obviously scared. “How about my wife?” he suddenly voiced out.

“Well, she is not safe right now. But she will be fine. Be a good boy and leave okay?”

“Okay…..”

“And, find a way to get rid of those stupid securities with sirens. Do not call attention to yourself. Good day and have a safe trip.” She hung the call.

She lingered on for some minutes to hear the sirens fade away before she left the secluded place for the living room. Time for exercise.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Shira and Oyin ran to the front part of the car he and Ann brought and entered in. They closed the door and rolled up the glass windows. Oyin handed Shira the connecting device and she lodged it in her ear. They watched the movement of the convoys on the other side.

“I'm just worried for the boss,” Shira voiced out.

“Dom't worry, she is boss,” Oyin encouraged.

“I know, but that lady isn't ordinary. She has crazy strength and uncanny instincts.”

“Well…,” Oyin was cut short by a startled shout from Shira.

“Oyin, look at those vehicles, they are turning back the way they came.”

“What!” Oyin screamed as he saw what was happening.

Shira screamed, “Call the boss!”

Oyin hurriedly brought out his phone from the car's glove compartment where he had earlier placed it and dialled the boss's number, panicking.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Ann couldn't believe her ears. The fading sound of sirens told her it was true.

“Follow those vehicles, I'll be joining you soon.” She hung the call. Ann was worried, she was sure the invisible assassin in the house did that. She didn't know exactly where the assassin was in the huge house and she knew she couldn't just leave the building without the assassin attacking her.

Groaning, shy suddenly felt a presence behind her and sure enough, when she turned, there was the female assassin standing in front of her, lips curved in a wicked smile, arms folded and looking at her. Ann recognised the lady immediately, it was the same lady she met at Chief Martin's house the other day.

“You?” she pointed a finger at her.

Miri smiled. “Yes me. And good that you recognise, because I don't have the plans of letting you leave this place alive today.”

No, I didn't. Wasn't chanced to post during the holidays. Damned busy!

It's also a sad thing for me to keep you guys hanging and keeping unfulfilled promises, but what could I have done?

The day I promised to post two episodes, I was typing one of the episodes when I slept off, stress, you know? While asleep, my younger sister desperate to play games on my phone deleted the whole unsaved post. When I woke up, well, what could I do? The post was soooo long and I was nearing the end of it when I drifted off.

I felt so discouraged that I didn't bother to type anything that day. Please bear with me...

Chapter 22

The hot steam with a sweet aroma greeted Shira's nostrils as she pried open the pot. A sweet aroma that will lead to a bitter death, what an irony! Shira thought as she picked a metallic ladle and dipped it into the pot, stirring the contents of the pot furiously. Her heart was pounding, although not like that of an inexperienced greenhorn. But of fear for the rather too early agenda. She froze for a moment as she thought of calling her boss to brief her but she declined when her mentality told her Ann won't be in support of such a premature action. Moreover, she thought it would be a surprise to Ann and a mark of her ability to carry out assassinations. She heaved a sigh of relief and proceeded to bring out the little, wrapped parcel.

............

Ann's Base

Henry hit on the keyboard furiously, typing in frenzy. Small streams or rivulets of sweat trickling down his face despite the full-blown chilling atmosphere in the control room. Beside him sat an equally tired looking Oyin. Alarmed beeps sounded often and often as Henry worked on the system.

'I just don't understand our boss anymore. Was she not the one who brought up the plan of poisoning the Minister? And all of a sudden, she suddenly declared she was no more interested in the plan,' Oyin grumbled sourly.

'The most painful aspect is that Shira just went to waste her time in that house,' complimented Henry.

Sounds of soft footsteps approaching the control room shut up the grumbling men. The door opened and in came Ann, dressed in a black angora hoodie with an equally black pair of bum shorts. The shorts clung to her hips and upper thighs, revealing her slim, curvy shape. Her light complexioned thighs are enough to make a man go nuts. Oyin's d**k was starting to give itself a standing ovation and he quickly averted his gaze.

Ann walked gingerly to the centre of the dreamy room, her beautiful face creased into an ugly look. She stood, separated her legs and stood arms akimbo. She glared at Oyin for a moment and then mellowed down the look.

'I thought you have never seen me before, hence the more reason why you were staring at me like I was an alien dropping from the sky, lazy bones!' she said softly but angrily.

She started to walk towards Henry as he worked away with reckless abandon at the system. She got to him and looked at the monitor in front of him.

'What have you gathered?' she said sternly. She then drew a stool towards her and sat on it.

'I hacked into his official email account,' he said as he zoomed some tiny words. Ann squinted at the screen. 'There was not much information,' he paused and minimized the software. He then clicked on a link and waited for it to process before zooming it. He continued, 'I then hacked into the SCTV cameras at his office only to discover the wretched fool bleeping a lady. But I was able to discover that the man is traveling tomorrow. And he won't be back until few months later. I think he already knows we are after him, hence it is obvious he is fleeing from the country. He is currently on his way home at present to prepare for his journey tomorrow. That was the little information I got, now I'm trying to cover up my links in the hacking of the camera systems so it won't be traced here,' he concluded.

Ann stood up abruptly from the stool. She looked at Oyin sternly and then said, 'Get prepared, we're attacking him at his house this very moment. Henry will stay at home and connect to the surroundings of his house and inform us of strange developments while we're inside. I don't want him to die a merciful death like food poisoning. O want to kill him myself,' she paused and threw her head back, laughing in a strained sort of way.

Oyin and Henry stared at her as she laughed away.

.......

Miri waited behind the endless convoys following the minister of finance. She was very much disgusted. It was her job to monitor the damned Minister and make sure he didn't get killed. So much for her troubles, she thought as she remembered how she watched on the SCTV camera as he was unmercifully banging a lady at his office a while ago. He didn't even appeared troubled at the prospect of assassination by enemies. He so much believed in his foolish security guards. Security guards with no iota of experience or skill, she hissed as she watched the convoy moving ahead. She veered off the road after making sure the whole convoy is out of site and turned into a dusty, untarred and pothole ridden road.

..........

Shira's hands shook as she read the text message from her Boss. The message was telling her to put away the plan of poisoning the Minister. Her head flew off, she had already applied the poison in the food and had dished the food. Her ears rang in fright. She fled out of the kitchen in panic and rushed to the dinning room where she had already served the poisoned food.

She was about to carry the ceramic warmer containing the soup when a wicked, witchy laugh sounded behind her. She looked behind her only to see the scary lady again. Her jaws dropped.

...........

Miri shone her eyes at the panicking girl. She was very sure the lady had something hidden in her sleeves. And she was determined to find out. The Minister wouldn't be around anytime soon, what with the silly convoy behind him. She walked towards the girl, who drew back in fear.

'What are you hiding?' she shouted at her.

'Nothing ma.... Nothing,' she waved her hands frantically.

Miri looked at the covered dishes and felt very suspicious. She opened the soup container and stared at it. The aroma smelled dangerous, although it wouldn't, to an untrained olfactory love. She sipped a spoon into the pot and thrust it at Shira.

'You taste this! Now!' she screamed at the lady.

........

Oyin stopped the car a few kilometers away from the ministers house. Beside him was Ann, dressed in black overalls and black pants.

'Are you ready for this?' she heard her ask.

He nodded sheepishly, 'Yes boss,' he replied.

They got down from the car and approached the building.

'It would be best to pass, unnoticed. We don't want to waste too much bullets. Besides, the man and his convoy isn't here yet, so it would be better to enter into the house, unnoticed'. Ann lectured.

'Okay,' Oyin replied dumbly.

Ann tapped a device in her ears. 'Hey Henry, she said. 'We are going in now, please check the compound and tell us which area is less free of guards and is convenient to break into'.

'Please wait a moment,' came Henry's voice. There was silence for minutes and then, Henry's voice came alive again. 'Please take the extreme left hand side of the fence, at the back, it is easier to enter the house that way without encountering problems,' he said.

'Ok, thank you,' Ann said and gestured to Oyin to follow her. They then started walking towards the area directed by Henry.

.........

Miri was sure the girl had poisoned the food and was very much sure she was sent by the supposed assassins. She would force her to eat the soup. She lunged at the girl and was surprised to see her duck effortlessly. So this was the local girl! She thought amusingly. She slid towards her and before Shira could duck again, she landed a blow to her jaw. She followed up with another one to the belly and the lady fell flat to the floor, wriggling with amazing agility. Angrily, for deceiving her, which has never happened to her before, she continued to rain blows upon blows on her until Shira could not struggle anymore.

She then opened the soup, dipped a spoon into it, scooped up some vegetables and proceeded to launch them in Shira's mouth.

Chapter 21

As Miri walked towards 'Kate', she heard her mutter something tearfully underneath her breath, but she couldn't hear what she said. She paused and looked at her. It was obvious that the poor girl was scared. She clutched her belly and laughed madly. She was sure the girl was innocent. She fell back to the sofa, laughing crazily like an accursed witch.

The sight of the tearful rat was just so funny. She controlled herself and looked at the girl weeping profusely. Trying hard not to laugh again, she cleared her throat and bellowed at her.

..........
Some seconds earlier

' Boss... I failed you,' Shira muttered tearfully. She was sure she would see the poison hidden in her brassiere if she tried to search her. Panic-stricken, she watched as the lady stand up, moving towards her. All of a suddenly, she stopped and stared at her, and then she started laughing hysterically like one cursed. She watched as she fell back to the sofa, beside herself with laughter. Then it hit her, seeing her weeping must have been funny to her. She wished she would read her weeping as innocence.

Deciding to play the cards, she creased her mouth into a funny funnelshaped curve, and started weeping out her brain. She made sure she put an innocent and hurt look on. Silently praying it worked, she continued weeping. All of a suddenly, she watched the lady stop laughing and then she looked at her. She suddenly heard her manly, threatening voice.

'Will you keep rhat your uncivilized mouth shut?' the lady barked.

Shira quickly kept quiet. Looking at the lady's face carefully, she wondered where she had met the lady before. She looked so familiar. Well, anyhow, she resolved and bent her head waiting for her to pass whatever judgement she wanted to pass.

'I was thinking my face has a particular magnet, pulling at your uncivilized face, village girl,' she yelled at her.

Shira started nurturing some hope, maybe, maybe, she thought she was a local girl. If this is it, she thought, so good then. She hoped for the best, while sniffing innocently like a lamb. She heard her call out to Mrs Jude.

Mrs Jude waddled in like the human duck she was, and Shira stared at her, as she plopped down heavily on a sofa. She watched her eyes bulg with unusual enthusiasm.

'Have you searched her? Is she the killer? Did she came with a weapon....??' she nattered madly until she was interrupted rudely by the other lady.

'Madam, your high-pitched voice is unnerving me, for the sake of Hades, can you just shut your trap?'

Mrs Jude opened her mouth and closed it wordlessly. She looked like she might explode with fury, although she was quiet.

''Now, listen to me. This girl is a naive local bitch who is only looking for a big home to stay in and steal goodies for her family. Hence, she is not a threat. You can employ her'.

Shira could not believe her ears. She mentally sang in joy. It didn't matter that the familiar-strange lady labelled her as a bitch. What mattered most was that she was on her way gradually in assassination of the minister. She grinned sheepishly.

'But listen and listen good,' she heard the lady said again. 'I'm keeping an eye on you. Don't try anything funny, or you will not even live talkless of regretting it. I'm sure you got my words!'

'Yes ma,' she muttered with deliberate fear in her voice although she panicked inwardly at the cold wicked look on her face.

'I think we're done here,' the lady said and stood up and started walking away, out of the living room. Shira was beside herself with joy.

…........

Few days later

Shira tipped the bottle of palmoil over the pot and the thick, viscous liquid crawled out of the bottle. As the palm oil dropped into the already hot pot, a sizzling sound erupted out of the pot and the thick oil became watery. She reached for a plate containing diced tomatoes and onions and poured the contents into the pot. She added pepper and vegetables. She crushed some seasoning cubes mixed it with salt, she then added these to the pot and closed the pot, waiting for it to sizzle for some minutes. Suddenly she heard Mrs Jude yell her name from the living room with her usuel croaky voice.

'That witch,' Shira muttered angrily. Then she shouted back, 'Ma! I'm coming'.

She was tired of the house already. She couldn't wait to accomplish her mission. She cursed silently and padded out of the kitchen. She walked towards where the foolish woman was sitting, watching TV as usual and chewing her Destiny out. A plate of chips were balanced on her enormous laps.

'Here I am ma,' Shira said courteously.

'Where were you before? You stupid, uncultured, cheeky tot! Anyways, are you cooking stone? Well, for your information, my husband is coming home now and he needs to meet his food, so you had better dish the food before he arrives or he will throw you in prison. He has no patience for maggots like you'.

You are actually the one looking like a maggot here, with your plumpy, amoeboid face, Shira thought and then quickly said, 'Yes ma'am,' and she turned away.

Walking into the kitchen, it suddenly hit her. She might as well add the poison to the food and run away before the symptoms start to show in the man. But wasn't it too early, she thought. She has been here for only five days. Well, she sighed, fast and carefulness wins the race. She thought. The deed must be done today.

Chapter 20
The Next Day

Shira stared at the car that just dropped her off driving away. She then stared at the gate in front of her. Was she ready for this? She asked herself again for the umpteenth time that morning. Was she really prepared? This was her first real assignment and would she now fail it? Shrugging her shoulders, she heaved a sigh and dug into the polythene bag in her left hand. She brought out a mobile phone and dialled Mrs Jude's public number and watched the phone as it rang for a few minutes. The Minister of Finance's wife's croaky, irritating and nerve-wracking voice filled the phone.

'Who the hell is on the line?' came the irritating voice of the woman.

'Good morning ma, it's me …….'

'Nothing is actually good about the morning. Can you just go straight to the point. And if you think I am ready to give you money, if you want to ask for some, then you are on a fool's illusion,' she barked over the phone.

Shira wondered why the woman was so saucy. She could not wait to snap the woman's neck and if possible, fry it to dryness and then give the head to the poor. 'It's Kate ma,' she said.

'I don't know any Kate. That's how you people will be mentioning stupid names whenever you want to ask for money. Is it my fault that my husband is the minister of Finance?'

Shira was very angry she could have screamed at the woman. 'Kate ma'am, the maid,' she said.

'Oh, so you were the one talking as if you are being f**cked?'

This woman get mind, she thought. Shira couldn't wait for the day she would snuff life out of this nasty lady.

'No ma. I'm right in front of your gate right now,' she said.

'Errmm,' she heard her Said. 'Please you will have to go and wait somewhere. I want to think about it'.

'Alright ma'am,' Shira said and hung the call. The woman sounded really suspicious. Think about what?

She just hoped the croaky woman had nothing hidden under her sleeves.

………….

Cross-legged, and with a huge frown on her face, Miri gazed at the silly animated movie showing on the TV. Every now and then, she checked her wristwatch and sip the wine inside a glass cup in her hand. She looked angry. The stupid cartoon showing on the TV did not help matters. Finally exasperated, she reached for the remote control on the sofa near her to change the movie station. Suddenly, her phone started vibrating with startling muted sounds. She checked the caller. Speaking of the devil, it was the stupid woman. She dropped the glass of wine on the table in front of her and picked the call.

'Why did it took you long to call? You silly woman!'

'See let me make this clear to you,' the woman said. 'The fact that you are trying to save us from an 'unknown' trouble does not mean you can talk to me anyhow. I'm way more older than you are!'

Miri laughed hysterically. She laughed until her sides protested. When she had stopped laughing, she took on a mean voice and bellowed at the phone, 'Woman, do you know whom you are talking to? Be careful of trash you will say to me. If only you are ready to go to your early grave. Oh maybe you feel that your silly guards can protect you? I laugh at you in Spanish. I will only send your lives to Hades in a nutshell. Just try me'.

Silence overcame the phone. 'If you get me, may I know why you are calling?' she questioned.

With a slight tremor in her voice, Miri heard her say the maid was around but not yet inside.

'I'm on my way,' Miri said casually and hung the call. She then stood up, picked up her car keys and left the house.

…………

'Yes boss,' Shira said to her phone as she stood under a huge baobab tree near the building, awaiting the results of whatever stupid thinking the woman was making.

'She said she wanted to think about it,' she said to the phone. 'Yes, I hid the poison in my brassiere……. Yes boss…. Okay… alright,' she hung the call only to look up and behold a car driving towards the gate of the house. A lady was the driver. She watched as she honked at the gate. The gate was opened for her and she drove in. Shira was suspicious of the car and its occupant. She hoped this won't be more harder than she thought.

About five minutes later, her phone rang and she picked the call, it was the Minister of Finance's wife, Mrs Jude. 'Hello ma,' she said courteously.

'You can come in now. I've told the guards to open the gate for you.'

'Okay ma,' she said to the already hung line.

……...

Miri watched the lady as she walked sluggishly into the living room, dirty and clutching a little polythene bag. She watched her as she looked at the house, obviously admiring the house. She looked like those poor people who feels happy at the prospect of working in a huge house where they could steal things for their wretched families. But, she knew better than to dwell on appearance. Appearance could decieve. And this kneeling, local looking girl might as well be a devil.

Miri surveyed her body with her eyes. She then turned to Mrs Jude, 'You might as well excuse us now. I will take over from here'.

Mrs Jude started to protest but Miri's severe stare at her shut her up. And she stood up, frowning to the bones and waddled out of the living room. Miri turned to the lady and cleared her throat, 'Erm….young lady, if you don't mind, I will like to search your body'.

She watched as her a flash of alarm and panic swam across the lady's eyes. Miri became suspicious of her.

………
A loud bang erupted in Shira's head as she heard her say she wanted to search her. 'But why? Why? Why? I have nothing on me,' she cried, trying to sound naive.

'Well, we need to confirm,' she hear her said and then she watched the lady stand up and started walking towards her.

'Boss… boss… I failed you,' Shira wept under her breath.
