Politics / IPOB Not A Terrorist Group – UK Denies Including Separatist Group In Blacklist by Calculating: 10:01pm On May 06, 2022
The British High Commission in Abuja on Friday described as false media reports that the United Kingdom (UK) has proscribed and blacklisted the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

“We are aware of inaccurate reporting circulating in the media and online that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK’s list of terrorist groups or organisations banned under UK law,” Tribune quoted the commission to have said in a statement to it. “These reports are untrue. The “Indigenous People of Biafra” (IPOB) is not a proscribed organisation in the UK.”

The commission explained that the inaccurate reporting relates to the April 13, 2022 publication by the UK Government of a revised Country Policy and Information note (CPIN) on separatist groups in South-East Nigeria, including IPOB.

“The CPIN on separatist groups in the South East, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), provides a general assessment of risks faced by individuals belonging to those groups. These assessments are based on an analysis of publicly available country information obtained from a wide range of reliable sources including media outlets; UK and other governments; local, national and international organisations; and non-government organisations.

“This CPIN also acknowledges that the Nigerian government has proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organisation, some members of IPOB have reportedly used violence against the state and members of the public, and advises that persons who have committed human rights abuses must not be granted protection.

“The document is publicly available on our UK Government website, Gov.UK at www.gov.uk/government/publications/nigeria-country-policy-and-information-notes,” the statement added.

Politics / Resign Before Primaries, APC Tells Amaechi, Akpabio, Malami, Others by Calculating: 8:08am On Apr 16, 2022
The All Progressive Congress (APC) has called on political appointees seeking elective positions during next year’s general election to resign before its primaries expected to hold later in May.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, made the call in an interview with Tribune on Friday. He said the party expects them to comply with the 2022 Electoral Act recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Section 84(12) of the legislation stipulates that appointees seeking elective offices are barred from participating in primaries or congresses except they step aside from their positions.

The afro-mentioned section which is now a subject of controversy over plots by the executive to erase it from the Electoral Act stipulates that: “No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who have declared to succeed President Buhari is one of such appointees affected by the law. Others speculated to be interested but have not declared interest for elective positions include: Abubakar Malami, Attorney general of the federation; Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Chris Ngige, Labour and Employment minister and Chukuwemeka Nwajiuba, junior Minister for Education.

Speaking with the national daily, Mr Morka explained that the leadership of the party was hopeful that anyone holding appointive positions on the APC platform would submit himself to the provisions of the Electoral Act and dislodge himself from his current position before contesting for elective offices.

“The position of the party is consistent with the Electoral Act,” he said. “We are allowing our affected members who may have the intention of contesting the primaries to comply with the Electoral Act, as provided.

“The Electoral Act, however, does not stipulate the time frame by which individuals should resign their appointment prior to the primary. The party will simply follow the Electoral Act.

“Any member of the party who is on an appointive position, we will expect such individual to resign before our primaries.

“We are hopeful that they will comply at the right time and we are going to ensure that anyone seeking our ticket will not breach the Electoral Act,” he asserted.

Politics / FG Begins Talks With Terrorists That Bombed Abuja-Kaduna Train by Calculating: 9:27pm On Apr 15, 2022
The federal government has began talks with terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna bound train last month.

Relatives of passengers abducted, by the terrorists demanding ransom, confirmed this during a press conference in Kaduna on Friday.

The family members, who beckoned on the federal government to fast track the release of their kidnapped relatives, lambasted Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, for declaring his presidential ambition, days after the incident where eight persons, according to authorities, were killed, dozens injured, with a yet-to-be ascertained number of passengers abducted.

Abdulfatai Jimoh, who addressed journalists on behalf of other relatives of the abducted passengers, confirmed the negotiation between the federal government and the terrorists.

“It is true that we gave the Federal Government 72 hour ultimatum which expired yesterday (Thursday) midnight,” Mr Jimoh confirmed. “We are grateful to God that before the expiration of the 72 hours, we heard from the Federal Government after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday through the Minister of Information that the government is already on top of the situation with what has happened.

“We acknowledged it and we appreciate it. But what we want to add is that the government should speed up the process of discussion with them (terrorists) so that they can come out to release our people soonest. This is our appeal now,” he added.

The relatives also warned the Nigerian Railway Coorporation (NRC) against reopening the rail route.

“The NRC should not be talking about reopening their services now when our people are in captive because what is the assurance that if they start services now that people that will be board the train are safe?,” Mr Jimoh queried. “What measure(s) have they put in place to guaranteed the security of those that are going to patronise their services. We don’t want the reoccurrence of this.

“The first thing should be to get the captives out and then they can put adequate measures in place and resume service so that this does not happen again in future,” he added.

So men do not need marriage too?

Politics / Man Whose Fiancee Called Off Wedding Denies Domestic Violence Allegations, Narra by Calculating: 8:52pm On Apr 15, 2022
David Okike, the man whose supposed wife called off their wedding scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 16, 2022, has denied domestic violence allegations levelled against him by his fiancee, Ozioma Michael.

Miss Michael who accused Mr Okike of severally assaulting her with various kinds of weapons said she was no longer interested in walking down the aisle with the accused.

Her reaction came amid reports of a gospel artist who died as a result of domestic violence unleashed on her by her husband.

Denying the allegations against him, Mr Okike on Friday afternoon in a statement posted on Facebook, said he has realised the woman was not meant for her, having postponed their marriage on several occasions.

“Contrary to the statement my wife posted on her Facebook profile bearing Ada Uburu, which is currently trending, this is my story.

“Let me first clarify that we have dated for over 8 years and she bears Ada Uburu with her official name, Michael Helen Ozioma, and another identity – Sandra Obi, which she uses to suit her purpose of identification at a particular time. Within these years, I have never on any occasion, irrespective of the level of provocation, raised my hand on her and this is because I respect adore her. There was no such occurrence where I raised a knife, cutlass, and or harmer on her and it was shocking to read her fabrications in that regard.

“Accepted that there is no perfect relationship, I can’t deny the fact that we sometimes disagree but it never led to assault as she alleged. I make the above statements knowing that we were not leaving alone but surrounded by relatives which can as well serve as witnesses to how we lived while we were together in my house. My mother-in-law still keeps in touch to date. This goes to prove that she is on her own and doesn’t enjoy her family’s support in the destructive line she has towed.

“This is difficult for me to bring to the public domain but I am aware that he who asserts must prove and that silence sometimes means acceptance and as such, I am handicapped safe from letting the public into this issue. I am now certain that she isn’t the woman meant for me as She is more interested in tarnishing my image and ruining my reputation after swindling me and postponing our scheduled marriage for four consecutive times. To what gains exactly? Even after terminating three of my pregnancies without my consent. Why would a rational thinking woman keep quiet while I spend heavily on wedding arrangements when she was convinced she didn’t want the marriage to hold.

“She had always maintained that she never wanted a child before wedlock, which I accepted and respected her decision because of the love I have for her. After paying her bride price in 2020, she took in and terminated the pregnancy at Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. That was the third pregnancy she terminated. I was pained and we had some misunderstanding and it got to a stage where my mother-in-law got worried if she could still get pregnant because of her series of abortions. Be it as it may, when we went for marriage counseling, the church decided that her condition doesn’t permit holy matrimony but rather marriage blessings, this got her unnecessarily worked up. She became hostile to me and got angry at any little provocation. It was the height of her frustration. She isn’t what I bargained for after all.

“The pictures I see all over the internet are misleading and a ploy to lead the general public astray. This is someone I have supported financially even to the extent of opening a pharmaceutical and poultry business for her, facilitated her covid 19 grants which she never gave me a dime from, rather she had her way and lavished it on her extravagant lifestyle.

“I thank God that she is taking this direction and I accept and respect her decision. But telling lies to play a victim, is way beyond normal and unacceptable. Regardless of what happened, she is having my child, and the Uburu tradition and culture don’t allow that I receive the dowry I paid as she is pregnant for me at present, when she delivered my child, I will surely receive my dowry. A woman with multiple identities,” he concluded.

Politics / Re: Anambra Election, Dr Maduka And Many Cases Of Political Hypocrisy Of The Igbos by Calculating: 1:11pm On Nov 08, 2021
contigiency:
Igbos pride themselves as the most educated, enlightened and exposed ethnic nationality in Nigeria. They do not hide their notion that other regions especially the Hausa/fulanis are backward in terms of their thinking and their socio political engagement.

The last weekend gubanatorial election in Anambra State has, as in the past, exposed the Igbos as rather direct opposite of the qualities they attribute to themselves, especially judging by their political maturity.

The Fulanis have on the other hand, shown that when looking for a leader of their choice, political party platform is immaterial when compared with the quality they are looking for. This they have exhibited on several occasions. The case of president buhari is still fresh how the Fulanis have on several occasions voted him in their millions irrespective of the political platform. The height of the point is when buhari formed CPC within 7 months to a general election, and still went ahead to ganner above 12 million votes in a general election. This proves that they vote individuals and not a political party.

The above scenario cannot be said about the Igbos because, on several occasions, they have chosen to prefer and voted for political party rather than the quality of the individual. It is still fresh in the memories how on two occasions, the Igbos ignored and abandoned the almighty Ojukwu to his fate on the two different occasions he contested for the presidency of Nigeria. It was so bad that he came a distant second in his state of Anambra. The same measure he was given in the entire Igbo states, because they choose PDP as a party not the quality of the party flag bearer.

Other few examples include when buhari ran on joint tickets with two different prominent Igbos in the persons of the late Dr Chuba Okadigbo and Edwin Umezuoke in 2003 and 2007 respectively. On those two occasions, the Igbos also chose PDP and abandoned these their brothers to their fates. Of recent, Kingsley Muoghalu and Obi Ezekwesili, contested, none was able to win a single political ward not even their own.

Coming to the just concluded Anambra State, the fact that Dr Maduka got a mere 1,793 votes, highlights, the point this article is talking about. What it means is that, even Dr Maduka's kinsmen chose to vote APGA and not the man who has single handedly, transformed their community. A man who has given numerous scholarships and empowerment to numerous households in his community and beyond. I stand to be corrected, the candidate of APGA has no record of reaching out to the needs of others, not even when he was the governor of Centeral bank. That shows that the choice of Dr Maduka's kinsmen was primarily for a political party and not the individual.

Hide your head in shame.

Your reference of Buhari spoiled the whole thing. Yes he tried thrice and succeeded during the fourth attempt. The question to ask is has he delivered? You obviously know the answer.

I admit Maduka is right but you can't downplay Soludo so the people made the right choice.

You just have to live with your pains which is severely. The Buhari you talked about got it after his CPC seen as a regional party couldn't.

He tried and succeeded because his APC now has a national appeal unlike APGA that's measured as the defunct CPC.

So your useless argument portraying Ndigbo dropping Ojukwu's party for PDP shows you're politically unwise. If so the votes of PMB should have made him president without APC platform na.

The wider coverage of political parties is what Ndigbo considers Secondary after primarily accessing the candidate.
