The North should retain power If the South-East is not getting it. They were betraying their brothers in 2015 thinking they are smart. Now they want the same seat they ousted our GEJ for, no way.
North continues regardless of party until sense falls on them.
Snubbing for any red oil drinker that will quote me.
Raymond Dokpesi, Media mogul and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the North should retain power because no one from the Southern part of the country will be able to win the next presidential election.
Mr Dokpesi stated this in an interview with Daily Trust while speaking on rotational presidency, a subject currently being debated by politicians and major political parties in the country.
While individuals who consider themselves influential in the Northern part are keen on retaining power when President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration winds down in 2023, their Southern counterparts are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure power returns back to their region.
For the chairman of Daar Communication, the South-East geo-political zone, which should be favored should power return to South on the template of fairness, does not posses the political will to win the race for the exalted office.
With that in mind, he canvassed for power to remain in the North and advised whoever succeeds the outgoing Nigerian leader to adequately compensate the people of the Igbo predominantly area.
“If we are the Nigerians, I want us to be, if we believe in the unity of Nigeria and we also believe in equity, justice, and fairness, there is no reason we should not give it to the South East if the slot is given to the South,” Mr Dokpesi said. “However, is there equity, justice, and fairness in Nigeria’s politics? The answer is NO! So, don’t let us over flog the matter. I think that whoever emerges as the president of Nigeria would have to compensate the people of the South East if truly, we want the emergence of the new Nigeria.”
When asked if his party that has zoned its chairmanship position to the North should as well zone its presidential ticket to the same region, he answered in the affirmative, saying, “That is what I have stated.”
He continued, “The South East cannot win the election for the PDP that is just the truth of the matter. I don’t beat around the bush; I treat issues as they are and as I understand them.
“There is no candidate from the South East, even I dare say there is no candidate from the South that you put in the North today that will be able to win. It is going to be a humongous challenge,” he asserted.

He also said the opposition party should zone the chairman position which he is not interested in to the South, particularly to the South-West geo-political zone.
“Let me be emphatical and let me pledge to those that like me, those who always appreciate me for who I am that I am forever grateful for their support. However, I want to say emphatically that I am not interested in the chairmanship of the People’s Democratic Party.
“I am just regaining my sanity from the mental torture and the pain I went through in the hands of the APC-led federal government and I think that there must be a time to prepare properly and get yourself ready for the challenges ahead. So, for those reasons, I am not interested in the chairmanship of the party.
“But there are quite a lot of capable hands who can provide that leadership. I believe for a change that the leadership of the party should move to the South West. I believe very clearly that in the South West we have people like Chief Bode George. We have Oyinlola Olagunsoye. Yes, I have heard Jegede (Eyitayo Jegede) mentioned as one of the possible candidates from the South West. So, if we have to look at it, we have competent people who can lead the PDP to the election in 2023 from the South West. Any geopolitical zone you decide to pick from, you will find people that are committed, loyal, and willing to ensure victory for the party,” he added.
He also dismissed the idea that the two major political parties should field a Southern candidate for the next election.
“It depends on your arithmetic and what you are looking for. I belong to the Peoples Democratic Party and not the APC. So, the APC is free to do whatever they want to use as a strategy. In 2015, we presented a Southern candidate while they presented a Northern candidate and they were said to have won. So, what is wrong with us presenting a Northern candidate now while they present a Southern candidate?
“In the PDP, you are aware of the fact that President Obasanjo had a full eight years as a Southern candidate; he was succeeded by Umar Yar’adua, a northern candidate. Yar’ adua used two and half years during his tenure and the remaining of his tenure was used by Jonathan, who did another four years, making a total of six years for Jonathan. And since then, we have not had a candidate from the North. So, the North is still in deficit of the presidency if we are to look at it.
“Some people decided to be abstract but I am a scientist that is why I have taken it how it is. So, if you aggregate them, you can see that there is still a deficit in favour of the North. So, that should be part of what PDP should put into consideration. I don’t care about the age of the candidate but the experience, the capacity, the knowledge about Nigeria and the ability to unify this country.
“The fact that President Buhari is adjudged to be a complete failure does not mean that every Northerner is a failure; it is just a lack of policy. Even during the military regime, Buhari was a complete failure but those who brought him and decided to force him on Nigerians owed Nigerians explanations on why they brought him.
“A leopard does not change its skin. Buhari can’t change his capacity, he was limited and that was why he was overthrown in 1985. So, bringing him back was just to rubber stamp that failure. We are able to find liberal Northerners, competent ones that are able to fraternise irrespective of the religious, tribe, and political differences and unify this country. So, our main aim is to get the person who can unify Nigeria,” he added.

TROOPS’ NEUTRALISE THREE UNKNOWN GUNMEN IN A SHOOTOUT
Troops of Sector 5 of Exercise GOLDEN DAWN deployed in Anambra have neutralised three unknown gunmen who attacked a Nigerian Police checkpoint along Okija-Onitsha expressway on 7 October 2021.
The gallant troops engaged and overwhelmed the gunmen with superior firepower, forcing them to flee the scene. Troops however gave them a hot pursuit, and engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.
The 3 gunmen, who drove in 2 Vehicles ( a Hilux and Hummer bus), eventually succumbed to troops’ effective firepower, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Troops also recovered one vehicle and 2 motorcycles, while conducting further exploitation of the general area for the fleeing terrorists.
Unfortunately, a policeman paid the supreme price, in the line of duty, for his country.
The Chief of Army Staff commends the troops for the feat and urges them to sustain the momentum against all criminal elements operating in the region. The COAS also sympathises with the family of the fallen hero and prays for the repose of his soul.
ONYEMA NWACHUKWU Brig Gen Director Army Public Relations 9 Oct 2021
Tinubuadvocate: This man was arrested yesterday sharing bread to hungry ipob terrorist members and supporters I never know it has gotten to this level. So it has gotten to this level in biafra land this is what we are saying should Nigeria government allow this people to leave Nigeria they will become a problematic to gulf of guinea territories. Soon they will be eating each other
Why should their welfare be your worry? Be concerned with bringing back your brethren chased away from their homes into another country by herdsmen.
This is all they know how to do. Face civilians with tanks and bombs but when they see terrorists ready to die like them, they cowardly scamper for safety.
Chiwetalu Agu, embattled popular Nollywood actor, is reportedly been detained by agents of the State Security Service (SSS).
Nigerian writer, Chiagozie Nwonwu, disclosed this Friday afternoon, hours after Mr Agu, who spent the night at the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, was freed.
“Chiwetalu Agu is still not free. He is with DSS now,” Mr Nwonwu posted on Facebook. “Colleagues say they are looking for a top lawyer to bail him.”
Trouble began on Thursday when he went on a charity mission at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State, adorning an outfit traceable to colors of Biafran agitators.
He was brutalised by soldiers and taken into custody until when he was released on Friday.
VIDEO: ‘Your Oga is talking’ – Chiwetalu Agu cautions soldier while defending ‘Biafran’ outfit
Celebrated actor, Chiwetalu Agu, who was assaulted by soldiers for putting on attires identical to those of Biafra agitators has been seen cautioning and instilling discipline in a soldier not to misbehave while his superior is talking.
The quinquagenarian was arrested after being manhandled at the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday and regained freedom Friday morning.
Army spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu, had accused him of inciting members of the public to join IPOB, an accused he denied while explaining what transpired.
Like was previously gathered by TODAY POLITICS from locals after the incident, the actor said he was on a charity mission when the soldiers approached him and brutalised him over his attire.
Before he was freed, a video clip of the actor being questioned was circulating on social media. Explaining why he wore the outfit, Agu said it was a civil dress and not those of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and its paramilitary arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“No, no, no, I can wear this,” the popular actor who sat on the floor said when a soldier was asked to get another dress for him. Explaining his dress before being asked to stand up, he said, “this is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network, do you understand?.”
“With my education, I know areas to go, areas not to go,” he added before a soldier by side showed him the direction of the photo gallery of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army where he should head to.
While the military personnel was still giving him direction on where to go, Agu cautioned him thrice not to talk while his superior is doing same, saying, “your Oga (beside him) is talking.”
When he finally got to the verandah of the building, the thespian explained further, “I was sharing 10,000 worth of bread when he (soldier) came, no campaign, nobody was doing any demonstration or carrying people along. Even people who were hawking, I was giving them bread.”
Nigerians have widely condemned the conduct of the soldiers with Human Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, beckoning on military authorities to apologize and compensate the brutalised victim.
Inibehe Effiong, Human Rights Lawyer. Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has advised the Nigerian Army authorities to apologize for battering popular thespian Chiwetalu Agu.
Mr Agu was on Thursday assaulted by soldiers in Onitsha, Anambra State, for putting on an attire which had traceable colors of the Biafran flags.
Despite trending video clip showing how the Nollywood actor was manhandled, army spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu, said he was not assaulted as multimedia contents circulating online showed.
Mr Nwachukwu accused the actor who is still being detained of soliciting support for the outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), a contrary account of Mr Agu who was on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was assaulted.
Cautioning the military to halt embarrassing itself Internationally, Mr Effiong said the attire of the celebrated actor ought not to have warranted the soldiers to attack him.
“The allegation that he is recruiting for or supporting IPOB is unsupported by evidence,” Mr Effiong said in his opinion article. “It is a way of calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Discerning Nigerians can see through the smoke screen.
“The military has no power in a constitutional democracy to arrest citizens; except in very special and exceptional circumstances like during war, state of emergency, insurrection or riot. Even at that, it has to be shown that the Police has been overwhelmed,” he added.

The legal practitioner described the action of the soldiers as illegal, unconscionable and unwarranted and beckoned on them to apologize and compensate to the actor, an advise the military is not known to adhere to.
“What did Chiwetalu Agu do that overwhelmed the Nigeria Police Force to warrant the Army stepping in to aid the police in arresting him?” he queried. “We have become so used to lawlessness, impunity and flagrant disregard for the fundamental rights of citizens that we now condone whatever nonsense is thrown at us by the authorities.
“Wearing a cloth with colours similar to the Biafran flag is not defined as an offence under any written law in this country. It is IPOB that was proscribed, not Biafra.
“A significant portion of the Nigerian population still sees Biafra as an idea. No government can kill an idea that people are emotionally attached to by deploying the military. History has shown that the best way to defeat an idea is by propagating a superior and more persuasive idea.
“The Army should apologize to the iconic actor and pay him adequate compensation for subjecting him to harassment and public humiliation,” he advised.
Information Minister Lai Mohammed has backed Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) on the latter’s threat of imposing state of emergency in Anambra State.
Mr Malami had on Wednesday threatened that the federal government will not hesitate to slam the emergency rule option should killings continue in the state whose governorship election comes up early next month.
Justifying the threat on Thursday, Mr Mohammed argued that the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) which has repeatedly denied issuing no guber election order in the Igbo predominant state constitutes grievous threat than bandits ravaging states in the Northern part of the country.
The minister queried critics, lambasting his colleague for invocating state of emergency as lasting solution to the killings the state governor Willie Obiano opined was politically motivated, on what would happen should the secessionist group demanding the actualization of defunct Biafra Republic succeeds in halting the governorship election.
“In the last couple of weeks, IPOB had imposed sit-at-home on the citizens, they did not allow people to go to schools, markets and there are also high profile killings,” the government propagandist said on Thursday while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). “The AGF said yesterday that the government will do whatever it takes to restore law and order in Anambra and the entire South East to ensure that symbols and pillars of democracy are not tampered with.
“The forthcoming election in the state is one of the pillars of democracy.
“Those who are criticising the AGF on this, have they thought for one minute what will happen if the election does not take place in Anambra State on Nov. 6?
“It is a disingenuous argument to say that they have killed more people in Katsina, Zamfara and Kaduna than they killed in Anambra.
“What is happening in Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna and Niger is criminality and the government will not condone it,” he added
After deleting the tweet of President Muhammadu Buhari deemed genocidal, Twitter has also deleted a tweet made by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).
The new development TODAY POLITICS observed occurred Saturday evening, about twenty-four hours after the Nigerian Government banned the social network’s operation in the country.
Before it was banned, the government propagandist, Lai Mohammed, had earlier accused the micro-blogging site of double standard by allowing separatists propagate their activities using its platform.
Nnamdi Kanu, in the now deleted tweet, had threatened that no Army sent to the South-East will return back alive.
It’s not for the living to respond to the dead but given the lack of reasoning prevalent in the Nigeria, I wish to assure @GarShehu, the Jihadi midget @elrufai & that Fulani lapdog Femi Adesina that any army they send to #Biafraland will die there. None will return alive,” the secessionist had tweeted on Wednesday.
Explaining why it was deleted, Twitter said the tweet goes against its rules.
“This Tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules,” it read when TODAY POLITICS checked Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Twitter has also deleted the #EndSARS emoji it made in solidarity of the historic global demonstrations seeking police extensive reforms last year October.
Micro-blogging platform, Twitter, has removed the #EndSARS emoji it created in solidarity during the historic demonstrations demanding extensive police reforms.
TODAY POLITICS observed Saturday afternoon that the emoji made up of a fist in green white green colors has been removed.
The development comes a day after the Nigerian government banned the U.S social networking giant operations in the country for deleting a remark of President Muhammadu Buhari adjudged genocidal.
Despite the ban, Nigerians are using Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass the ban which became effective Saturday morning.
As at press time, it is not yet unclear why the platform took down the emoji.
If they aren't pained, they have done their so called worst but it appears they see it's not working unlike what zombies claim online
Exactly, they should have thought about alternative which Nigerians will resort to should they ban Twitter but it appears they are not well informed about how far technology has gone.
The federal government did not ask Nigerians to stop using Twitter. It singlehandedly banned the social networking giant over remarks deemed genocidal against a section of the country.
Likewise, I expect it to go against VPN which Nigerians have resorted to and stop this madness of ordering persecution, sorry prosecution.
Were they expecting Nigerians not to resort to VPN if they ban Twitter? This shows the govt acts before thinking because if they knew Nigerians will resort to alternatives, they won't ban Twitter.
As the ban on Twitter takes effect, Nigerians on the micro-blogging platform are discussing about former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr Jonathan while trending on the third place on the micro-blogging site had over 46,000 Nigerians eulogizing him for not clamping down on free speech while he held sway.
Most of them who are using Virtual Private Network (VPN) are quoting a famous remark of the then president where he claimed to be the most insulted while in office.
“l am the most abused and insulted president in the world, but when I leave office, you will remember me for the total FREEDOM you enjoyed under my government”~ Goodluck Jonathan. 2014.” one of the tweeps, @UncleAjala, tweeted Saturday morning.
“GEJ prophesy is coming to pass with what Buhari is doing in Nigeria and to Nigerians,” he added.
The indefinite ban on Twitter came two days after the social networking giant deleted a controversial remark of the Nigerian leader deemed genocidal against the South-East geo-political zone predominantly hosting Igbos, one of the major tribes in the country.
While Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, deactivated her handle on early Saturday, TODAY POLITICS observed that two presidential aides were still operating their Twitter accounts despite the ban.
While one is outside the country where the ban is not effective, the other who is in the country is obviously using a VPN to access the social network.
A former federal lawmaker has described as a bad legacy the indefinite suspension of Twitter by the President Muhammadu Buhari regime.
Mr Buhari through the Information Ministry announced the suspension of the giant social networking site. This comes a day after it accused the micro-blogging platform of double standard.
The U.S-based platform had deleted the remarks of Mr Buhari deemed genocidal. It also removed the video clip where the Nigerian leader was shown issuing the threat against one of the major tribes in the country.
But reacting to the ban, Mr Sani tweeted Friday evening that the decision is a bad legacy.
“Twitter suspension;a bad legacy,” he said.
Mr Buhari while seeking the exalted office used social media, including Twitter, to propagate his three major campaign promises comprising of Corruption, Economy and Security.
His decision to shut down the micro-blogging platform is being described as dictatorial by most Nigerians who reacted to the development.
Meanwhile, Facebook has also deleted the controversial remarks of the president from his page on the platform and it is unclear as at press time if similar action will be taken against it also.
