U r the one who doesn't want to.learn. The ONLY thing that determines what is correct is USAGE. It is not logic, neither is it common sense, nor is there a poll or a board set up. Even the dictionary follows usage - things and spellings that were correct yesterday could be incorrect today. Same way, some things are correct in America but incorrect in UK. If you can say "come back here" , you can equally say "return back to base"!

It is NOT me, it is language! Why is it when you start a new job you are said to be resuming? Same way ""Return back to base" is often said. The "back" is for emphasis or just filler - as often obtains in language. So also "go home" vs "go back home"
