EducationRe: Do Doctors Really Make It To Greatness? by Capableben(op): 4:21pm On Aug 27, 2014
davno: You sound biased about doctors. Your knowledge of the medical field cannot be said to be universal knowledge.

You know Ben carson as a renowned neurosurgeon. That's just a minute part of medicine. Ben Carson is also not the richest doctor but he is a great man who by his nature and experience has impacted his field and motivated numerous people around the world.

Ben Carson himself has some other great doctors who motivated him. I guess you have read his works.

There are numerous great doctors. That you don't know them does not change the fact that they are great. I have have seen rich and wonderful Nigerian doctors. I know one that makes at least 10 million naira monthly from his practise here in Nigeria and he is not the richest Nigerian doctor. The richest man in my LGA is a medical doctor. I can go on and on.

We have too many unsung heroes in almost every profession in the world. People who are truly great but not famous. Being great does not necessarily mean being a celebrity.
hmmmm Enlightenment.
EducationRe: Do Doctors Really Make It To Greatness? by Capableben(op): 8:35am On Aug 27, 2014
davno: Being a doctor, an engineer, an actor, a politician, musician, etc is not what makes a person great.

Greatness is something that you bring into your profession. Can also be developed along the way.

It's about the person and not the profession.

Meanwhile, medicine remains a very noble profession that has both great and "non-great" people in it's fold.
hmmm nice points, looking at Nigeria as a point of view, One hardly find doctors amongst the greatest men we have. Globally I only know of Carson...
EducationDo Doctors Really Make It To Greatness? by Capableben(op): 11:55pm On Aug 26, 2014
Greatness in my own opinion:Being wealthy or financially stable, popular beyond your immediate environment, respected and eulogized by many..

There's this characteristic trait about most Nigerian students-they all want/wanted to be doctors, they see the profession as the easiest and rosiest path to greatness but that axiom is fallacious. the last time I checked, most great men and women in Nigeria,Africa and beyond were not doctors. e.g Nelson Mandela, Chimamanda Ngozi, Wole S, Achebe, Mark Zuckerburg,Omotola Jalade, Genevieve N. etc.

Please don't misunderstand wealth or opulence for greatness, one can be rich but not great.

This thread, I know is controversial but I never intended it to be so, In fact Drs command a great respect from me. This is just to enlighten the common Nigerian student and parent that Medicine/Surgery isn't a sure path to greatness.

Your opinions please.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Things That Annoy You About Job Hunting? by Capableben(m): 6:30pm On Aug 22, 2014
ABEngine: 1. Friends never mention when the applications were ongoing but will waste no time to publish their locations if you wish to gate crash.
2. Having to suffer the collective fate of being amongst a wrong group during a group interview session.
3. Delaying candidates the entire day, subjecting the to physical and psychological stresses yet expect optimal performance NLNG & NNPC
4. Stampede
5. Job portals making our emails available for SEO marketers and spam mailers at a fee
6. Publishing already filled vacancies for the sake of due process
7. Redundant email links or dead career portals on most companies webpage
8. For the mushroom-like firms with big pay, the gate man doubles as the personnel recruiting officer, if you don't dance to his tune please check the bin
9. Girls run from you like a plague, don't even let em spot your bent heel
10. For indigenous oil companies and few others, its ladies first. Keep that weight appropriately it might just land you the next big job
11. I suffer shaa those years, trying to listen to my lady's heart but she kept paying attention to my purse. Then one day, She left and I paid more attention to the hunt #InAkimbo#

It was fun after all, stories must be told. Be diligent, remain steadfast in prayer and be informed. #ThatsAll

EducationRe: Engineering Students Chatroom by Capableben(m): 4:23am On Aug 11, 2014
Champella: I've been observing your posts on so many threads. I've noticed that you worry too much over so many things. Well, there is no crime in trying to find out if you're making a good decision or not because so many people are scared of making mistakes which will affect them later

I'll advise you worry less and concentrate more on graduating with a very good result (a 2nd Class Upper from 4.0 or a 1st Class).

Chemical Engineering is a very good discipline and so many people would give up so many things just to be in your shoes. Don't ever let anybody make you feel that you "must" be a graduate of any of the top 10 Universities in Nigeria before you can make it in life

As long as any course is accredited in any Nigerian University you're good to go. Forget about the rankings of schools as those rankings exist as people's opinion at a particular time.

Think of the lives you can affect positively as an Undergraduate and when you'll be a Graduate. Add more value to yourself daily and success will definitely come your way.

Finally, i'll leave you with these few words to ponder on. . .

"If you do the same thing as everyone does, you'll be as good as everyone is. To excel, you have to exceed your limits"

I wish you the very best!
Thank you very much brother, for ur concern, thank u

EducationWhat's The Yardstick For Determining The Best University? by Capableben(op): 10:06am On Aug 07, 2014
Nigeria: Over time we get to see lists of ranking for universities across the country. I always had that intrinsic pride that I was attending one of Nigeria's best schools until I saw the latest rankings where they placed my school at 69, ouch! It kept me cogitating , what are their basis in determining the best unihuh
Is it academically inclined or they look at structures ( buildings)?
how does it affect one's employability in the labour market?
Let's talk.
