I also think Steve Pienaar was decent, if not world-class, in those days at Everton. The problem of SA is a lack of talent. If they are smarter, they should take advantage of the huge immigrant diversity in their country to beef up their national team football, like France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and, in recent years, countries like Canada and the US. I hope they drop their local champion mentality soon.
You must be a joker to think Steven Pienaar is a world class player.

" The last time they luckily eliminated Morocco"
This is false. The South African team is a good team ,they just need to be clinical and look for good strikers. Yesterday they created several chances in the first half.
No need be sentimental , if the SA team is not good when was the last time Nigeria defeat them ? (Not through penalties )
We have eliminated in the last 2 AFCONs we met them. They are just not good enough, i know what i am saying. Tanzania also created chances against Morocco yesterday, they couldnt score because thwy lack the quality. At crucial points quality will show thats what SA doesnt have.

it doesnt work this way.. Radebe at Leeds was as much a revered figure as Kuffour was at Bayern.. so what the point here? Football is not popularity contest.. whether you think Ikpeba is "better" than Steven Pienaar it doesnt in any way make Pienaar less "world-class"..

Also, South Africans that are in the UK, some of them are there for various reasons, like studying, also many of them are white South Africans and white south africans arent Football inclined.. Using naturalized Africans to prove Football ability is a flawed argument.

South africans do have footballing ability.. this is not even up for discussion, underachieving doesnt change this fact..The national team of Spain were perennial underachievers up until around 2007-08.. despite having a good league and renowned teams like Madrid and Barca.. SA is where Spain was in their underachieving years.. lets nit forget you couldn't win the same group with SA in it for the world cup.. youre just reasoning out of the usual Nigerian bias against SA.
North Macedonia knocked Italy out of the Last WC qualifiers, they are no where near the level of Italy. Likewise Sweden who prevented them from going to the 2018 WC. Cape Verde did same to Cameroon, that doesnt place Cape verde ahead of Cameroon football wise. You SouthAfricans should get this into your heads that qualifying for WC in a group that has Nigeria doesnt really make you a top footballing nation in Africa. We all know who the top teams are, Angola did so as far back as 2006. I havent seen Angolans Claiming equals with Nigeria. Togo did same ahead of Senegal too, no where am I seeing togolese claiming they are bigger than Senegal in football. You played 7 of your 10 games at home, and had to take Nigeria to a potato farm to avoid defeat at home. And Nigerian football ws in crises througout the qualifiers. This 2026 WC will come and go, stop behaving like this is the only WC that has been played or will be played.

Lucas Radebe is no where near Sammy Kufour in world football. Steven Piernaar is several levels below Victor Ikpeba. I wonder why you southAfricans are so bad in assesing player quality.

The case of SouthAfrica is not that of Underachieving. Its clearly lack of quality talent. When you had Radebe, Bartlett, Mccarthy, Fish, Fortune, Nomvete etc most of whom played in Europe you always make the later stages of AFCON and qualify for WCs, and that was the level there talents can carry them at that time.
Ask any Nigerian, we are never afraid to play SA in any match compared to teams lke Ghana, Senegal, Ivorycoast etc

Yeah I think we are safe for this season. Na the first thing I go check be that, my broda.

Abeg I hope we get some new interim manager bounce with Fletcher and deal the deal. One thing I expect is more minutes for some academy players (that is if our injured players don’t come rushing back).
Correct but as long as he doesnt start any of those his twins. 😀. If he performs like interim Ole we might make the UCL. He will at least revert back to our traditional 433. I think players like Dorgu, Mainoo Mazraoui and Amad will do well with a different formation.

I heard Vivell will look for the next coach. So liepzig link might make him go for Nagglesmann. Well for me I am not too invested in the team anymore. Anything wey they wan do make them do

They are tunnel-vision people.

With every sacking things appear to get worse. Even this interim appointment of Fletcher dey risky. He has been coaching for less than 6 months.

The first thing I did when I hear the news was to go to check out points in the table to make sure say relegation no dey possible this season again.

Like I always say, the sacking of a coach is not the main issue but the appointment of the replacement is where we stumble. We also need to improve in squid building.

The only manager left that I have some hope in is Nagelsmann but he is another philosophy king. With the last 2 appointments those philosophers don dey scare me.
😃😃😃🤣

We need 9 more points to reach the magic 40 points mark. So we are safe . Lol

I dont see them progresing past Round of 16 in any AFCON. The last time they luckily eliminated Morocco then beat inexperienced Cape verde on penalties, before we knocked them out

Most of these COSAFA teams have the same style of play....they play fast paced football and like to keep possession... Their poor defensive awareness is always their undoing...

The super Eagles need to control the pace of the game and get an early goal ..

So when South Africans were captains of Leeds, having players starting for Cagliari, Lazio, Man Utd, Fenerbahce etc.. what was that? Not in our gene?

Secondly, how can they neutralize South African players when they dont have many South Africans born in those places? Having players turning out for France when they aren't is also not the flex you think it is.

There have been South Africans players who were were world class.. eg.. Radede, Moshoeu, Pienaar, Fortune, Mccarthy etc.. So this assertion "we are not good enough naturally" is nonsense..

Lol, Football is one area where you guys feel you have one against SA.since you guys cant keep up with our country in many areas. I partially understand the chest thumping
Which SouthAfrican got a starting place at Man Utd?

Radebe, Moshoeu, Pienaar, Fortune and Mccarthy are not World class. You cant xompare them with players like Drogba, Etoo, Osihmen,Ikpeba, Finidi, Sammy Kuffour. Mane,Yaya and Kolo Toure, Salah, Essien, Kanu etc.

SouthAfricans are about 245k-298k in the UK, while Nigeria is about 500k, which is not surprising considering that Nigeria is normally more populated and diverse than SouthAfrica. But that difference in Number doesnt account for the wide difference in the number of UK- born Nigerians who made it to these top NTs and clubs vs those of SouthAfrican decents. In the case of Ghana, there are more UK born Southafricans than them, but from the top of my head, I can call Mainoo, Guehi, Nketiah and Acheampong. These are for English speaking countries oo, if you go to France you see French born Cameroonians, Senegalese, Malians, Burkinabes, Benenoise, etc. Just admit it You just dont have the natural footballing ability to excell above this your current level. You are even performing up to thos level because you are one of the exonomic super powers in Africa.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. He was totally out of his depth. He was never a Manchester United manager and should have been sacked after the Europa final loss to Spurs in Bilbao.
Better late than never. Let Fletcher take temporary control till the end of the season while the board looks for a proper replacement. And this time they should take their time to carefully choose a replacement.
Fletcher? Lol.

That one Na striker? cheesy
Checked his career stats at club level and it's bang below average..

They better come to their sense and find a way to get more of their players to Europe top leagues...
Morocco used to be ordinary in Africa not too long ago until they started stuffing their national team with foreign born players
The issue is SouthAfricans are just not good enough to nail down a starting place in any European team. Its not in their gene. The best footballing countries are the Sub saharan Africans Like Mali, Nigeria, Burkinafaso, Ivoryxoast, Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal. These countries are just curropt and mismanaged FAs. Look at France NT full of Players with nationalities from French speaking countries, England, Austria, Italy, and Swiss having a lot of players with Nigerian heritage. None of these countries want to Naturalise any SouthAfrican player. They are not just good enough natuarally. Have you ever seen any SouthAfrixan player in History reach World class level? Nigeria has people like Okocha, Osihmen, Ikpeba, Kanu and Mikel. Senegal had Diouf and Mane, Ivroycoast has Drogba, Toure brothers etc. Cameroon had Etoo, Geremi, Mbeumo, Mboma, Roger Milla, Ghana had Essien, Abedi Pele, Sami Kuffour etc. Have you ever seen any South African player evr in history reach that level?

Even if they wanted to, they don't have that many players in quality leagues in Europe... Their current squad has two players from the Saudi league, one from Romania and one from Denmark...I don't think any of them are even regular starters at their clubs....

They didn't...we scored first in all those matches irc so no

For you to find a match where Nigeria came from a goal or two down and won the game eventually..you'd have to go back nearly 6 or 7 years in time
So Nigeria should allow the opponents to score them 2 goals, then they come back to win to prove to you that they have comeback spirit abi?

Most of their players aren't good enough to cut it in Europe top clubs....

Ironically, if you ask them to mention their all time greatest players, it will include players that plied their trade in Europe.. McCarthy, Mark Fish, Redebe, Mokoena...
Their top striker Lyle Foster that plays for Burnley. He is being benched by one unknown young English striker. They are not just good enough.
