BeeBeeOoh: A federal high court in Lagos has ordered Sadiya Umar Farouq, former minister of humanitarian affairs, to account for payments of N729 billion to 24.3 million vulnerable Nigerians.
Umar Farouq was minister from 2019 to 2023 in the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a judgment delivered by Deinde Dipeolu on June 27, Farouq was ordered to provide the list and details of the beneficiaries who received the payments, the number of states covered and the payments per state.
The ruling followed a freedom of information request from the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
In the certified true copy of the judgment provided by Kolawole Oluwadare, deputy director of SERAP, the judge said:
“I therefore grant an order of mandamus directing and compelling the Respondent to provide the following information to the Applicant:
“Details of the proposed payments of N729 Billion to 24.3 million Nigerians for six months, including mechanisms and logistics put in place for the payments and list of beneficiaries.
“Details of how the proposed beneficiaries have been selected, the number of states covered and the projected payments per state.
“State whether the payments will be made in cash, through Bank Verification Numbers or other means.
“Explain the rationale for paying N5,000 to 24.3 million poor Nigerians, which translate to five percent of Nigeria’s budget of N13.6 trillion for 2021.”
In December, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited the former minister over the alleged laundering of N37 billion by one James Okwete, a contractor who worked with the ministry.
These people really finished this country. Fraudulent, greedy, and heartless people.
Even if they did distribute that amount, what exactly will 5000 do for anyone? Total waste of government resources.
naptu2: Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was another simple man. Reverend Monsignor Colonel Pedro Martins wrote about his strange experience with Sir Abubakar.
Colonel Pedro Ayodele Martins was a Catholic priest who at various times worked as a science teacher at St Gregory's College, as the head of the Nigerian Army Chaplaincy and as the Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos. He died in 2014 at the age of 103 and he was reputed as being the oldest Catholic priest in Africa and probably the oldest retired Nigerian soldier at the time of his death.
When this incident occurred in the early 1960s, Pedro Martins was a reverend father and science teacher at St Gregory's College.
Father Pedro Martins was driving down Awolowo Road on his way to his residence at St Gregory's College when his car developed a fault. He parked at the side of the road and came down to figure out what was wrong. He was working on the car when another car parked behind him. To his surprise he saw that it was the prime minister.
"Father, what is the problem?" Balewa asked. Father Martins told him about the car and Balewa suggested that his driver should take Father Martins home and then get a mechanic to fix the car, while he and his ADC would walk home (the prime minister's residence was at the end of Awolowo Road, right beside Onikan Roundabout).
Father Martins was about to protest that he could not allow the prime minister to walk home, but the ADC had already brought out Balewa's things from the car and both of them started walking to the residence (it was only Balewa, his police ADC and the driver that were in the car. There were no escorts or sirens).
Of course we all know that Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was assasinated and that his death (along with the death of other politicians and soldiers) led to the counter coup in which many people died and the counter coup led to the Civil War in which even more people died.
What a man and leader he was. Stoic, eloquent, graceful, simple, and intelligent.

This is the answer.. Christian couples can have sex if traditional wedding is the last wedding as agreed by them or their parents etc, and no other wedding after that. But if a couple have another wedding after traditional wedding, please they should not have sex. Have sex only when all weddings are done. You can do only traditional wedding if you wish, you can marry in your father's house etc, as long as both parents approve it.. Lesson: Have sex after all wedding(s) are done.
