Car Talk › Re: Can A Faulty Brain Box Affect The Gear Box Of A Car by cardoctor(m): 11:06pm On Aug 26, 2023
Without you giving more details, such as model year AND engine size, I can't answer your question. Without the model year, I don't even know if your transmission has a separate TCU that can ve scanned via the OBD port.
After all these years we still have to remind people to provide full details of their cars before lodging complaints on the issues in order ro make it easier for tech teams to ascertain and offer a solution path and some just still cant get it.

Car Talk › Re: Why Is My Timming Belt Always Cutting by cardoctor(m): 10:58pm On Aug 26, 2023
wittyguy:
Can anyone enlighten me on this:
I drive a 1999 Toyota camry which as proven to be efficient and reliable over time, but the major issue I have is the rate at which the timing belt cuts. In a space of 6months I have had to change it like twice and the last change I made, I requested my mechanic to get the highest grade which he said goes for about #4000, despite that I still encounter this problem, could there be any other factor that could lead to the frequent cutting of this timing belt or what exactly. And also are there any tell signs one need to watch out for in order to anticipate the cutting of the timing belt as I have had to go through a lot of stress when this happen unprepared for.
Thanks for helpful responses.
Carefully check your Crankshaft and Camshaft sprockets as well as the water pump sprocket. There must be a damaged spline on one of them. No matter how slight it may look, over time during operation it will gradually disintegrate the belt leading to the eventual snap.
Car Talk › Re: My Experience With A Popular Air-conditioning Expert On Nairaland by cardoctor(m): 10:51pm On Aug 26, 2023
searchng4love:
Great.... Sometimes in July I contacted a nairaland certified AC specialist concerning the fixing of my Toyota SUV's air-conditioning system.

I was able to locate his shop close to ladipo parts market....

He was courteous in receiving me and welcomed me warmly. Guessed my trip wasn't a waste... Then began the hours of waiting to get him to check the air-conditioning system for the faults therein....

I noticed that he was particularly distracted by phone calls most of the time... Like working two minutes and receiving 10 minutes phone calls.

Myself and a lexus car owner who had paid for his vehicle to be fixed since morning before I came (mind you I got there around noon) was also wondering.

He claimed to have paid all monies necessary to fix the car but the man was moving about receiving calls without any attention paid to his car.

Although the Lexus owner claimed he's heard reports of him being a good AC technician.

Then finally after about two hours of waiting he came to inspect my car....
He brought his equipments for testing.....

....to be continued
Pls dont use Ladipo technicians as a general measuring stick for what a good technician should be. Even me sef dey fear those Ladipo guys.
