KarlTom: There's no rule tying them. Companies can pick any par value not less than 50k.
The existing rule (about par value) says that if the par value is 50k, the SP can fall [and trade] below 50k. However, If the par value is above 50k, the SP cannot be traded below the par value. e.g. Mansard and NEM are currently ₦2 and ₦1 resp. ARADEL was ₦10 before they listed on the NGX... Thank you for the clarification. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Care4: 9:52pm On Sep 08, 2025 |
chimex38: Also, companies comes to the market to seek capital, through IPO or Right issue. internally, what happens is they convert some of their assets(previously unconverted) to shares. This passes through regulations and SEC before approval to avoid issuing more than what you have or ambiguous/undefined/leased assets, etc
For example, lets say company A bought a new asset at ₦70,000 current valuation and wants to issue it at shares to the public(PO) at ₦30 per share, it will be converted at its nominal value. That is: ₦70,000/₦0.50k= 140000 so 140,000 shares will be issued.
That is also why the ₦0.50k is always stated to show at what price it's assets were converted to shares..
But nevertheless such shares will be purchase at its Real Value;( selling price at the NGX or listed price if its public Offer(PO) or Right offer price(RO)). In this example case, OS purchased @ ₦30(Real Value)
Also, if you go to the equity section of any financial statement, Share capital is made up of OS X nominal Value (OS X ₦0.50k). It makes sense because this is the actual amount the assets were divided to issue the shares in the first place (as shown above). Share Premium on the other hand is now (Real price -Nominal price) X OS For the given example above, share premium= (₦30-₦0.50) X 140,000= ₦29.5 X 140,000 OS =₦4,130000
Both addition of share Premium and share capital make up the equity Capital of a company. Most people will tell you forget that nominal price(₦0.50k) as a common shareholder or investor but focus on the real price("₦30" ) as the case may be which is understandable as you may not need it in your money making venture. Usually rests with the company management and their accountants. But you seem curious. few others might benefit.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_and_nominal_value Is there any rule tying publicly listed companies to the 50 kobo nominal value? When will the NGX moved to ₦1 or so considering the economy? |

kolente: For El-rufai to appear in a 45 minutes show on Live TV and all his comments are literally being dissected bit by bit whilst being on the front page of every SM platform say a lot about his influence and reach.
Nasir-El Rufai is a big fish in Northern Nigeria take it or leave it.
I doubt if there is anyone in the entire North with three seperate academic qualifications spanning Quantity Survey, Business Management & Law with Fourty (40) certifications from Harvard alone.
The dude knows exactly what he wants and even the Vice President Kashim Shettima "warned" that he cannot be underrated.
El-Rufai giving them wotowoto. Harvard na cash and carry o. If you have the money , Havard will organise course for you and you'd get certificate. |

Then NEM, Cornerstone, Coronation(wapic) Custodian and Universal Insurance for the General insurance requirement. But lead way is not listed on the exchange.
Pls DYOR. All of them should come close to the pre-rally price. Their sector is not that reliable. |

ambale: Are you staying in Abuja currently??
Abeg make we no dey pamper our leaders
Imagine a state capital without a good transport network
They are all failures, no matter how you try to coin it
Moreso, the president took out subsidy, floated the naira, which naturally according to himself gave him more funds to spend, if this is the result in the medium term is still very poor
Nigeria as a whole is going through the worst living crisis in her history
Even the minimum wage can't get you shelter in most cities in this same Abuja
Make we just leave sentiment and talk to our leaders, they are not trying enough plain It's so pathetic that Abuja has no public transport system. You can count the number of covered bus stops. Most passengers wait under bridges or trees. It's terrible for a city built from scratch and purportedly planned. |

chimex38: Again I have been thinking: If residential houses(owned and lived in by the owner/relations) and are not included as public buildings going by this definition of what constitute a public building.
If a landlord is to insure his building, just to bypass this compulsory insurance, the landlord could collude with his/her tenants to claim they are living there for free.(no payment or transaction). More like a relative or Charity residence/philanthropy. If my house is insured because I'm letting it out; no gainsaying, they'd feel it in their rent. |
