Education / A Philosophical Appraisal Of Joseph Fletcher’s New Morality by cbravo3: 8:19pm On Sep 02, 2018
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The problem to be treated is about moral decision-making. How is one to act when faced with a moral decisive situation? Life presents us with situations where decisions are not so clear-cut. Saying yes to one perceived good often means saying no to another. The question “what ought I to do” in a given situation raises conflict for us. Making decisions is a part of man’s life. Man tries to make the right decisions always because a wrong decision taken can be detrimental to both an individual and the community. Hence, B. O. Eboh observes that, “It is often difficult to take a moral decision in a given situation because of the many other facts which may surround such a situation” . The point is that there are many realities to be taken into consideration in moral decision-making.
At this point, one may ask: “what moral decision am I to take in a moral situation?”

Education / Friendship In Aristotle Vis-à-vis Modern Day Conception Of Friendship by cbravo3: 12:42pm On Aug 30, 2018
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY.
Over the years, people (including philosophers) have looked at the concept of friendship from various perspectives. Such people include Plato, Cicero, Epicureans, Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, Aristotle, etc., each of these philosophers has his view of friendship.
However, the purpose of this work is to discuss how modern day people understand friendship using Aristotle’s conception of friendship as a paradigm. This work will investigate why people make friends. In the same vein, it has as its purpose to find out whether friendship is intrinsically good or bad

Education / The Art Of Natural Family Planning In The Light Of John F. Kippley by cbravo3: 8:47pm On Aug 11, 2018
Origin of Family Planning
The origin of family planning is traceable to Thomas Robert Malthus (1766-1834), an Anglican clergyman and a British economist who was the first person that raised alarm in the year 1798 that the earth’s population was growing at a faster rate which could soon outrun the earth’s resources. For a way of checkmating population growth, he suggested the issue of late marriage and total abstinence once a family reached the parents’ desired size. But then, when he made this assertion, much attention was not given to his dire warning until it seemed about to come true in a dramatic way as the world at then seemed to be reduced more and more in size because of improved means of transportation and of communications. Then, people began to become very conscious of each other such that the world suddenly appeared to be cramped, confined and overcrowded. It was this issue

Education / Platonic-aristotelian Notion Of Man by cbravo3: 5:04pm On Aug 08, 2018
The concept “Man”
Man by his very nature is an inquisitive being. The innate desire, says Aristotle, is both for pragmatic motives and for the sake of knowing. Man wants to know and conquer the realities around him and beyond him. But has not been able, even to unveil the mysteries of his own being “existence.” These various obscurities of man to himself, varied concepts and images of man have been presented according to various ages as below.

Education / Globalization And Sustainable Development In Africa by cbravo3: 3:05pm On Aug 07, 2018
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE INQUIRY
Expectedly, many scholars have pondered and are still pondering on the overall effects of globalization on the entire human race. These studies are not only necessitated by the controversy hovering around the phenomenon, as explained above, but by the apparent marginalization and increasing impoverishment of its less privileged participants.
I, therefore, wish through an existential inquiry into the dynamics and the philosophical background of the current globalization process, to expose its contents. This would then enable us to extrapolate its possible implications to the quest for sustainable development in Africa.
As a philosophical inquiry, this study would try to analyze the raison d’etre of the current globalization process. My major contention is that sustainable development is all about human beings and business is about ethics. Hence, the terminus ad quem of globalization should be the holistic development of humanity in ways that are sustainable for people of all races and for all generations.

Education / Notion Of Freedom And Law In St. Thomas Aquinas by cbravo3: 8:39pm On Aug 05, 2018
THE MEANING OF FREEDOM
Freedom! Everybody wants it, it makes a man a human being, poets praise it, and politicians promise or proclaim it. Some people have given their lives to win it for themselves or for others, but what actually is it? St Thomas Aquinas sees it as absence of coercion. Coercion or compulsion bears on the external action and corresponds to the absence of external coercion. This is variously named according to the kind of activity involved.

Education / Critique Of Moral And Religious Nihilism In The Philosophy Of Freidrich Nietzsch by cbravo3: 9:42pm On Jul 26, 2018
WHAT IS NIHILISM?
The term “nihilism” comes from the Latin word “Nihil” meaning “Nothingness”. The new Webster dictionary defines nihilism as, “… All attitude rejecting philosophical or ethical principles” . It further describes historical nihilism as, “the doctrine or program of a nineteenth century and twentieth century Russian revolutionary group which rejected all forms of tradition and authoritarianism in politics, religion, morality and art” .
The name “nihilism” first appeared in Ivan Turgenerou’s novel, namely, Father and Son. One character in the book says that,

Critical Analysis Of Hegelian Idealism And Its Implications for Human Person
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
In the light of the foregone (statement of the problem), one easily discovers the task or aim of the whole work. The work is an effort to reinstate the concrete existence of the individual human person which has been swallowed up in abstractions through absolute idealism. Thus, it is primarily targeted on Hegel who is a prime absolute idealist, and it is a reaction against the abstraction of his idealism, which has depersonalized the individual human person. This would be more effectively done via existentialist emphasis on man to restore the essence of individual human person. Thus, it is a piece of evaluative criticism of idealism with Hegel as a reflex point.

The Background of Study
The Place Of Man In Aristotle: The Basis Of Man’s Life Crisis
No doubt at all that there were so many views about what constitute the essence of man, but all did agree in the first place that such essence exists, that is to say that there is something by virtue of which man is man and so are all other beings in nature before Aristotle, and at its climax after him, having succeeded in arousing interest. The traces of this devotion in philosophy are identifiable in the ancient and classical, Middle Ages and enlightenment philosophers culminating in Kant and then those of the contemporary era.

Purpose Of The Study
The main objective of this work is to expose and make a philosophical reflection on Aquinas’ doctrine on conscience, his understanding of conscience and synderesis. An attempt will be made to see the relationship between Aquinas idea of conscience and man as a moral being in quest of ultimate end. I shall attempt also to contribute to resolving the problem of error and doubtful conscience, in addition to what Aquinas has said about the problem.

There are so many ways through which an Igbo traditional priest may be called up for his officiating to the deity (i.e., through which he can gain his vocation). The Scholars consulted ;on these have similar opinions according to the way they perceived the vocation to the Igbo traditional priesthood. For Emefie Ikenga Metuh, he sees the vocation to the Igbo priesthood more as being “hereditary”, as most often a successor to a deceased priest would be gotten from one of his own lineage. Meanwhile, in rare cases, the deity herself chooses the priest through mysterious circumstances, sometimes. Thus, he (Ikenga Metuh) wrote:

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
For the fact, that many philosophers of different epochs have dwelt on good and evil with different mindsets and came out with misconception of what good and evil are, Spinoza as against these views conceived the idea of good and evil in a different way.

However, the purpose of this work is to expose and appraise the conception of good and evil in the morality of Spinoza. To show how his conception of good and evil differs from that of other philosophers.

Politics / Re: How Igbos Developed Lagos by cbravo3: 10:08am On Jun 22, 2018
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
In the words of Rev Fr. Collins Ojene, “No continent suffered from the scourge of slavery for centuries as Africa. No continent was so brutalized by colonialism, imperialism, and now neo-colonialism as Africa.” The Igbo nation, we have to note, is part of the African continent and as such the afore-mentioned statement, if it is true, also applies to them. This study serves to ascertain the extent of the damage these (colonialism, imperialism and neo-colonialism) had caused the Igbo race specifically. In this study, we are interested in seeing if really we can be very right to say that the colonial masters have been our ‘messiahs’, sent from God above to bring us salvation and light (like Christ was believed by the Christians, to have been sent) as shown by some writers of history. To see if they can be seen as, in the words of F. K. Ekechi, expressing the view of the people of the lower Niger on the early Western Catholic Missionaries, “a kind (white man) who came for the welfare of the people.” It is a study aimed at examining the intricacies of these diverse contacts that has existed in history among the Europeans and the African-Igbo world to see what actually has held the Igbo nation spell bound from advancing to the developmental stage the European world of today is in. It is a work born out of an interest in contributing to the growth and development of the Igbo race. This interest to help move the Igbos forward was born in the course of our study of the African philosophy and the many problems facing it. It grew after a realization of the fact that the ancient Egypt of Africa was amongst the first civilized nations but today is nowhere, development wise. On the other hand, it is aimed at producing what can be accounted by us, as the gains and problems created for us by the westerners and by so doing help our people to know what they need in their present rush for the white-mans land (greener pastures) and culture. It is a way of trying to expose us to the reality that not all that glitters is gold and that the European in all he does is never perfect and should never be regarded so.

1.4 JOHN LOCKE’S IDEA
The English Empiricist and moral and political philosopher, John Locke (1632-1704), is renowned for his political thought and especially his social contract theory. Locke’s “state of nature” was meant to be harmonious and peaceful. Men are bound to preserve peace, mankind and even avoid hurting the other. The well keeping and execution of the law of nature is meant for every member of the society. The actual violation of this law by the individual in the society leads to an eventual state of war between the person and others
