gentleiphy:No qualms mate. I'm for all for truce and peace. Your wisdom is appreciated. |
sukkot:I really had no beef with you and was surprised you attacked me. No hard feeling. The others can jump off the CN tower or Burj Khalifa for all I care. Pretty sure they won't be missed. I'm out. Going out to skate and then to the movies with the kids. Oh life is good. So good...Hmmnnn. |
irridemi:You are welcome. All the best to you and your husband as you make this life changing decision. Good luck. |
Demainman1:I don't get your argument. They send their kids abroad because they prefer them to get the education abroad and have a stress free life. The argument is why it is better to live in Canada than in Nigeria and not why NIgeria is underdeveloped and not the best place for the kids to have a quality life. This slave mentality you keep hampering on. Africans sold their kinsmen as slaves. What are we talking about. Why do we imbibe western culture? Why do you dress like the whites, why do you drive a car, why do you go to school, why do you use a cell phone or computer? You my friend have a slave mentality as these are all things invented by the west and the whites. |
sukkot:Why do you feel the need to smash down on me. She's an adult, she can confront me herself. You and I had no issues as we were discussing yesterday about the pros and cons of Canada. Pls grow up and have some sense. To think that I was even trying to have an intelligent conversation with you. Scratch that. In your face, up yours numbskull. Seriously I can take on all of you dumbo pessimists. Bring it on. Let me school you today ![]() |
sukkot:Sukkot it's not that at all. Actually I earn more money from my businesses in Nigeria than my job in Canada, I have a bigger house, car in Nigeria and my family is ok. Mind you I was an international student for my undergrad and masters in Canada. Not cheap. It's not about money to me. But its about a sane and safe environment where the mind can develop. I just returned from a 4 month trip to nigeria and I couldn't wait to get back even with the sub zero temperature. The traffic, NEPA, gridlock, horrible drivers in Lagos is just not for me. Sure there's money but that's not me. Why do the majority of the kids of the rich stay and school abroad? Plain and simple. It's a saner environment. Things work better, govt is doing their job, police are doing their job, hardly traffic, safer environment generally. If you are ok with Nigeria if you have the opportunity to be in a developed country like Canada. It's ok. We all have different personalities and way of life. Nigeria will always be home. But I love Canada. If NIgeria can become a better country and govt decides to start working. I will be the first one to pack my bags and return home. For now. I am home. Home is where the heart is. I am happy here. Money is nothing. |
shinejackie:And I'm entitled to mine. ![]() |
adonai36:Interesting. I didn't know that was possible. OP this an option to look into. Sounds promising. Apologies that I thot it was asylum. |
Tamarind? |
Omg. Nostalgia. |
irridemi:personally I won't advise you to go to Eastern Canada provinces. NB, PEI, NS. Mostly white, not so developed, less job prospect than provinces like ON, AB, BC, MB, QC. 90% of intl student there relocate to get a job after school. Cheaper tuition and in general but is it worth the stress? Plus its much more boring out there. I lived in Charlottetown, PE for a while, it was tough o. |
adonai36:How did you guys get PR in 9 months as an international student? Share now. |
irridemi:Are you sure about those fees? Post a link pls. |
adonai36:refugee claimant? not sure how else you can become a PR in 9 months. If not, let us know what program. |
ifegy:That is wrong info please. And what has that link got to do with giving birth in Canada? Two different countries. |
irridemi:ok, looks like you are thinking of a career change? I was speaking for options for you to become an auditor in Ontario. Don't know about those courses you mentioned and job prospect. You mentioned your SIL not getting a job yet so you have to be very careful choosing what professional course to do. Those are Oyibo courses o. If MBA, target Finance or accounting related that is if you want to continue in auditing. |
irridemi:I have friends without any canadian education whatsoever except Nigeria degree. Canadian work experience on your resume is more favourable than just having Canadian master or education with no work experience in Canada. Even if it is just a basic job like telemarketing, customer service, cashier. From there, you will get a better job, know the system and develop a network to get a better job. There are many government funded organizations that helps newcomers to Canada get jobs and help prepare the resume all for free. I got my first job through one of those agencies. Again canada is a country of immigrants. As a professional however, you need to get canadian education to work in your field I.e doctors, nurses, lawyer, engineer, auditor, insurance etc. Don't just do masters degree in anything and waste money and time. Look into obtaining the CGA, CA, CFP, CFA. Project management/ business analysis is also a good area. They give credits for some of the courses especially if you have accounting or finance degree, ICAN, ACCA. This is my field, so I know what I'm talking about. All in all, I will suggest coming as a skilled worker is better than coming as students. If you were single or younger, it's easier to survive being an intl student. Also just asked a friend, if you give birth in Ontario as an intl student or spouse, you are covered. You won't have to pay anything and your baby will be a citizen. As you can see, I live here and I'm pro- Canada. If you are smart and hardworking, you will succeed here. People immigrate here everyday. Don't let people that have not being here or just hearsay discourage you. You are smart, you will make it. Believe in yourself. |
maternal:Pls stop spreading lies. However the fastest way to get a good job is to do a professional certification or masters if you can afford it. It helps your resume. Most of these courses have coop or job placement during or after the program. |
sukkot:I live in North York. Mostly middle-class area. Easy commute downtown by train. I'd really like to know where you live now England? With your narrow streets and crazy levies and taxes? You really think it's better than Canada? |
sukkot:You let that one ordeal scare you away from Canada? Those are the Jane/Finch crew I was warning to stay away from. They will only tell you how bad the country is but they take no major step to make life better for themselves. They live in the ghetto areas with the Jamaicans. They feel inferior to the whites for whatever reason. There have been blacks in Canada since the time of slavery in America. When slaves were freed, they moved in droves to Canada(Nova Scotia) for a better life. Nigerians have lived here as far back as the 60s. I have many friends that were born here and never been to Nigeria. They are all doing well. You cant get to any university in Canada without meeting a Nigerian professor, doctors are uncountable in Toronto alone and tons of nurses and white collar workers. I meet professional Nigerians everyday in my line of work and my church. The problem is that when majority of Nigerians arrive here, they settle for menial jobs like PSW, factory worker, labourer and what not. Those jobs are only supposed to be short term. But because they get terrible advice from whoever they are staying with or helped them to come Canada, they stay doing the dirty jobs instead of going back to school. Immigrants outnumber the whites in Toronto. Filled with blacks, Indians, Chinese, Filipino, Spanish. Canada is an immigrant country. At a point, it was very easy to get papers but a bit stricter now. |
sukkot:Oh wow. That was about the time I moved to Canada too. I remember that slam dunk contest. I used to be a huge fan of the raptors and used to go out to see the games downtown. Ever since Chris Bosh and Carter got traded...I wasn't loyal anymore. My teams are in the states now. I work at Yonge/Bloor area. Busiest intersection ever . You should have tried to visit in Summer. Hotter than Naija sometimes. The cold is not that bad common. You just have to dress warm. Boots, gloves, Parka, earmuffs scarf. You get used to it. |
sukkot:Misery? In Canada? I was only stating the obvious. I am even going Ice skating at the rink tomorrow. It's cold but if you dress warm and have a car, it's nothing. Honestly, If you didn't make it in Canada, it's either you are very lazy or do not have the qualifications to get a well paying job. Exporting is also a great business to be in. Opportunities abound and only pessimists will complain. Always look at the glass half full and be determined. |
