@solomoncater,congrats.what was the fees quoted on the offer letter?

@coldgate,it is nice you are interested in applying.have you written ielts?do you have a proposal? Have you made any contact with any supervisors and got a consent-securing consent goes a long way in improving your chances? These are the initial things to sort out early.

dinlin: @cconcept, Doctorate degree students pay domestic tuition of abt 6k or thereabout plus u can bring ur wife if you have one..she may get a work visa under ur student visa(visit NZ immigration)...the domestic tuition scheme is to market NZ skools and increase its value in the world of research..also to attract the best brains frm all over the world..most doctorate complete their studies compare to the number of dropouts frm bachelors or lesser programs..

the fees are quite fair.
what is the essence of attracting the best brains when they will leave after their studies?

dinlin: When you live in Rome you live like a Roman...mingle with d different cultures..visit a Maori Marae..as a foreign student ur mates wud usually be koreans, chinese, indians, japanese, british among others...they all got accents in class so not t worry..ur 9ja accent wud only sell u out when u meet kiwis but ul get ova it and blend wit time..u hear alot of phrases like..mate, no worries, sweet as, crack a woody etc..keep to weather charts cos d weather changes weneva..cook ur own food ul sav alot..heaps of fast food here & one can b temptd to eat out often..y u fink dey got obesity problem..u can get a student bus pass to get on buses for cheap..bring enough money cos it might take awhile to find a parttime job dat suits ur course timetable..ur money flys when u live near d city. even cost of living in many American cities are cheaper than here from rent to food. food is cheaper in the UK than here as well. study hard, play hard, focus, careful wit ladies(NZ women are researchd to be promiscus) and stay safe

grin, would you say all these apply to higher degree students(masters by research and doctoral)?

Pirate of the carribean was shot in here.

these are interesting points worth discussing more, dinlin.

As long you meets the entry point requirements......
genuine visa to d the 3rd country, genuine transit visa issued by their embassy in your home country, yellow card(not 2005/2006 card), onward ticket to the 3rd country, you are good to go. Immigratn clearance is not a big deal if your documents are complete.
The rule is that: If you are transiting with the same airline, no immigration clearance is required. Many of the Asians(Indians, China, etc) in Aussie uses this route and I've gone through their forum too. Indian, China, Sri-lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan passport holders are free to arrival without transit visa, such is called transit pass.
One more thing, Airasia are well known for connecting flight to the third country of destination which must be any of the following: Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A, China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

bro/sis,could you reconfirm these destinations because i just checked and i could not see NZ and USA on their website

FutureDon: Aside cutting expenses, one thing I like about what you guys are suggesting is that one may also use this method to avoid sitting on the plane for long hours. For example, a flight from LOS - SIN - BNE is around 7hrs - 7hrs - 7hrs. If booking about a month ahead, it cost about $1635 (Emirates). The only deal breaker - one has to obtain a transit visa pre-arrival.

Aim: To cut expenses (not much I guess) and to avoid sitting on the plane for long hours.

I find a flight boring once it is more than 8hrs sad

i was about to stress the same thing(the bolded).
while we are looking at cutting costs,we should not overlook this important point to aviod unnecessary embarrassment at the airport.

Zenkel:
Just like every other airline, if your baggage exceeds the allowance given, u pay for it. Airasia allows arnd 30kg fee. When booking your flight you will see options for baggage... more baggage, more money, though the price is reasonably cheap.

thank you.
how long was the flight from Malaysia to Australia?
Travel / Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by cconcept: 4:05pm On Jul 27, 2014
Zenkel:

Yes, it sounds very unreal but it's very real.
Sometime ago, before the attack on nairaland, lawland or someone gave a hint of flying with airasia and tiger airways, so I made research on it and was able to succeed. This is what I did:
I searched for a nice flight combination between Ethiopia airline and airasia and booked a flight to KLIA(Kualar lumpur) from Lagos at N107.8k, and a connecting flight(airasia) to Australia(Goldcoast) at $276 (N45.3k).
I applied and obtain a transit visa at Malaysia embassy at Abuja after 2 working days( normal visa processing time is a week i.e 6 workinh days.) Below are what I submitted at the Malaysia embassy:
1. Form 47(Malaysia visa form)
2.My Australia student visa
3. Original and photocopy if International passport
4.Yellow card
5. My Ethiopia e-ticket and my AirAsia e-ticket.( My arrival to KLIA and departure had 4hrs interval)
6. N1k visa fee.

Now below are what I found about transiting via Thailand, Singapore, or Malaysia.
1.Most AirAsia flight from any other country do have stop over at KLIA, making it less cheaper. So, I booked a flight to KLIA directly instead of transiting via Thailand or Singapore.
2. Malaysia Transit visa allows you to stay a maximum of 120hrs at the KLIA; you are not permitted to leave the airport.
3. AirAsia used to have promo and during such promo you can get a flight to Australia less than $200; I booked my flight just two days after the promo had expired.

what about luggage? did you have to pay extra or the transit flight accommodated your 23kg bag(i assume you will have 2)

What is IOM? I guess not every Nigerian gets a date.
I have been reading a lot of complaint on IPG racial profiling, seems some advocacy groups are taking them on.nobody even knows the country list they work on.its very secretive.

2yrs to do checks?...

dinlin: @moneybag100....5k will not get u any skool..plus u cant just come study courses that aint needed if u intend to stay...they are aware these traditional courses like biz admin, accounting, law, philosophy etc are in naija unis, ghanian and even souty unis..at most UK..so the question is "Why would he wana go 38hrs to achieve this 1 year course? "...u need to enrol in courses that are seriously needed here before u can even b considerd..some naija guys hav given us a bad name dealing drugs, scams and false documents..fake passport, qualifications and birth cert. scams..some arrange marriages wit citizens to get a stay leave her and later tries to bring naija wife and up to 10 children..cos govt pays weekly allowanc for each dependant child...football player wiring drug millions to naija...confrence guys that woundnt go back after visa runs out, pali fraud when dey could obtain a real naija passport...govt here is aware of Boko threats as well...so one has got to prove to be exceptional..& a few of us r legit
It looks like with all these risk factors,Nigerians have a date with IPG. What do you think?

Yah I have 5 publications in both economics and international business journals but still working on some at the moment I don't have issues in education. Won't lie am nt financial capable ma goal is academic research and PR. Thanks for the question u knw life is abit better in English speaking countries than a country they don't speak ur language..

then consider if this your course of study is a pathway to PR.
I am not sure but others can make it clearer if economic related courses are on the demand list.

@walker
do you have publications in international journals?
are you consistently making As in your results?
do you have a thorough understanding of research methodology and can do independent study?
are you financially capable of funding or you are relying on scholarships?
is your goal academic research or PR?

think about these and many more-it will help you decide if a phd study is best for you and probably you can get an offer in australia
