But this is SMC and i did not see getting a job offer as a prerequisite to submitting EOI or submitting of application. if you have any additional info you can as well share it.

thanks

Congrats on the steps so far.
If everything goes according to plan, you will most likely get a Job Search Visa rather than the SMC residency visa because you do not have a job offer.

Have gone tru the whole page and it's sad to see that we Nigerians are already giving up on NZ PR.
Let me see if this helps. How may of us have considered going tru silver fern as a pathway to obtaining NZ PR? I did some research and i found out that Indians use this route a lot.
And yes 160 point is very obtainable. With an msc, 8yrs work experience, one can easily make 160 points. Let's make use of these alternatives abeg. As for silver fern am giving it a try once it opens, i encourage us to use that medium also.

The silver fern visa is issued for 9 months, only 300 places and 20-35yrs age category!
Work experience from Nigeria is not recognized i.e. (not from a comparable labour market) ...that is why Nigerians find it difficult to get 160 points!

https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/tools-and-information/work-and-employment/skilled-work-experience

"Comparable labour market
A group of countries that INZ considers have a similar labour market, which is made up of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macau, Malta, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Work experience in a country not listed above will only be assessed as being in a comparable labour market if it was for a multinational entity domiciled in one of the countries listed above"

...except you have worked for a multinational entity domiciled in Nigeria e.g BP,Total, UN etc

It has not stopped. Draws are held fortnightly. It is just that the conditions are not so favorable to Nigerians living in Nigeria at the moment.

Good morning all, please I just want to know how I can secure a job In nz if I apply for a visiting visa ND got it.
Do I need to go nz embassy for thumbprint?
I kindly await responses
Thanks

Employers will at the first instance ask you about your legal status and work rights before offering you a job which you do not have with your visit visa status. However, are they willing to sponsor you or wait for you to get a work visa? A lot of employers are reluctant to go through the process because it appears cumbersome, expensive and opens the company to scrutiny. If you are lucky to get a gig with one of the accredited employers, maybe maybe. Put in mind there are a lot of people already in the country with work rights too. You must be a specialist or have unusual skill sets they need for you to be considered.

@Concept. Pls, I'd like you to please attend to this.
I'm in talks with someone who's gonna help with my NZ visa application. I'm positive on this ayways as I'm hoping to to mke the journey in May, but I just want to ask a question that bothers. From your own experience, having been able to travel to NZ, Please, is it compulsory that one with NZ e-visa apply for transit visas before embarking on the journey since its obvious there's no direct flight there. My reason is that i've considered transit visas applications a huddle a few times when i try my hands on some long distance travel plans. While some would say it is not necessary since i'm not entering the transit country (only stopping over to change flights), some would say, I won't even be allowed to board any aircraft without a transit V on my passport.
It this true or its mere rumour. Kindly put me through on how to route my flight such that no case/challenge of transit visa would arise.
I need you to pls clarify/advice me on how to go about this. Thanks

NB: Departure is Lagos
    Destination is Auckland, NZ

Someone helping you?
I know if your flight is going through Australia, you will need a transit visa even if you are not stepping out of the plane. However, there is an Emirate flight that does Lagos-Dubai-Auckland. You will need to find out yourself.

Hello everyone!

Pls what type of medical is required for potential phd students? Is the medical to be done before the visa application?

You will need a full medical examination before lodging your visa application online. Refer to INZ1121 form for full information. I think Fatayi Wiliam is responsible.

Secondly, if a phd student gets a permanent job offer from an employer during the course of his studies how would he handle that?

PhD study visa comes with unlimited work right for any employer at the moment. Using the employment for another purpose is a different ball game. Also, how to combine studying and working full time is something to think about

Good work here to everyone.

I got admitted into the PhD in Preventive and Social Medicine program at University of Otago last year. However, I deferred my admission to September 2018 because I got a fixed term job in the UK which will end in July 2018 and also to raise some money because I was refused the doctoral scholarship I applied for.

congratulations on securing admission.

I intend to apply for visa in June before I leave the UK in July for me, my wife and baby and I should have the required fund for everyone. My question goes thus:

Apply using the online platform for yourself only, then when your visa is out, apply for family because those are paper based application. Remember NZD4200 for your wife and NZD4800 for each child. Be ready to provide enough evidence of relationship

1. My plan is to get the NZ visa before I leave the UK for Nigeria cos my resumption is in September. Is it advisable to apply for the visa in the UK since I won't be employed after the end of my UK contract and I don't have a job in Nigeria either?

Apply for the visas NOW. These days, many applicants are not getting the visa processed on time and as a result they have to defer their admission and resumption

2. For how many months do I have to have the POF in my account?

You need to show a six month bank statement showing the required amount. if there is a lump sum above the equivalence of NZD1000,you need to explain the source. Yes,lump sum in the account is allowed if you can provide genuine source and documentary evidence of the fund(gift from dad/mum to support your academic dream, pension payout, etc

3. What evidence can I use to show that I will leave NZ after completion of my studies considering the fact that I want to go with my wife and baby and no job in Nigeria?

a good letter of motivation describing your goals and future plans in concrete terms among many others

4. Since I will be self-funded, will 1 year tuition and maintenance fees suffice? I plan working in NZ because my profession is in demand in NZ

what you need after paying your first year tuition(without payment, the school might not issue you enrollment letter required for visa application) is a minimum of NZD16000(15000 for maintenance and a minimum of 1000 for outward travel). Be aware that you will need to be renewing your visa yearly. You can also use a sponsor if you do not have the whole funds but be aware that you have to be using the SAME person every year as your sponsor thereafter for visa renewal. Have you researched job opportunities in the town you are going- do not just assume based on your qualification and experience. The labour market in a supposedly student town is dynamic ? I assume it is Dunedin.

5. Is June 2018 a good time to apply for the visa because I am resuming in September 2018 (three months interval)?

Please apply now...The processing period could be long

6. Any other advice will be appreciated.

APPLY NOW and try as much as possible to convince INZ you are a bonafide student

You people should just know that you are required to leave NZ 14 days after you finish your programme. You're not required to apply to NZ or any other country until after staying two years in your country. Please, before you apply for a scholarship try and read the terms before applying. Don't be taken away by the prospect of going to NZ.

Thank you.
We are also waiting for the full immigration policy of the new government.

Kudos Oga Cconcept for the great and selfless job you are doing here. Please I want to make inquiries about Invercargill. I want apply for an undergraduate course (Bsc civil engineering) at the Southern institute of technology, invercargill due to their low tuition fees over there. I have been researching about jobs and cost of living in that region but the information I have gotten so far is quite scanty. Please can you give more information about this region with regards to jobs, cost of living and life in general. Thanks a lot and keep up the good job.

Invercargill is a small town with about 50,000 people.
I have never been there. If you have all the funds required to live and study, you may go for it.
Also consider if you can scale the hurdle of "bonafide" student.

Hello house, I have my unconditional offer from University of Auckland for my PhD study and I have also paid the tuition fee as stated in my admission letter. I have the stipulated amount for one year required fund according to Immigration New Zealand, plus extra fund for on-board flight fund.
Please my question is, is it necessary to use my parents as sponsors for the second and third year of my study, since my study is three years or the $15,000 NZD in my account is sufficient to show immigration New Zealand for my student visa?
Thanks so much for your advice in advance.
Best regards.

If you have used a sponsor for your first visa.. You must continue to use the SAME for subsequent applications.
If you don't have the means to back up the NZD15, 000 you have in your account, I will advise you use a sponsor.

alright sir, this is the situation.......i am a partner to a new zealand aid student. And its part of the scholarship benefit i can go to new zealand with the scholar and ill be granted work visa provided i meet immigration requirement. I want to know what prove i can submit to show im bona fide. I have a property, family bond also but i hv no job. Will they reqire me to have a job before they can grant me the visa? Or will the family bond and property be enough to prove bona fide? Thanks

Oh Okay...
As at the last time I checked(there might have been an update, but at the moment I have not checked..please reconfirm),you or your partner will need to show $4,200 as evidence of funds. Also, you and your partner will need to provide evidence your relationship is genuine(marriage certificate is not enough)...evidences such as marriage certificate, pictures of wedding, naming, vacation together, child birth certificates(if you have children), joint bank statement, tenancy agreement in both names, utility bills(waste collection bills, power bills),joint ownership of properties--must show names, some even add facebook page grabs..these are the ones I can easily remember now

plus the usual requirements of meeting health and character standards...

You need to be thorough..INZ is very strict with visas that deals with relationships... Some applications even involve interview

While starting my visa application, I was presented with two options, to either be able to use the online application wherein I would only be able to apply for myself or do a paper application for my husband and I. The issue is, he does not intend to join me permanently as he has a steady job in Nigeria which he is not eager to leave but is happy to travel with me to ease my travel stress and visit from time to time.

My question is, what option is better to choose? Is it better for him to apply for a visitor's visa?

Further, please is there anyone schooling in University of Waikato or have first-hand information that can help with the question below?
.
What airport in New Zealand would be best or closest to Hamilton (That's where the University is)

Is it OK to rent an apartment from easyroommate.co.nz?

Can anyone provide me with other rental sites?

Many Thanks

Congrats on your admission.

My advice is based on your financial position... Are you self funded or on scholarship?
Apply online for your student visa and let your family do the paper application.
When you apply online and you have received an acknowledgement, let your family do a paper application and do a covering letter to say you would like the application to be processed along side yours.

His application will be placed on hold till you get yours because it is dependent on you getting a visa. If you are denied, he is automatically denied!

There is no need for him to apply for visitor visa. He will need to apply for "Partner of Student Work Visa" valid for the same length of time of the visa you have. He doesn't have to leave his job but can visit you at any time using the work visa.

If you are on scholarship, INZ may give you a total of 4years visa at once, if you are self funded, you will get 1 year visa which you will have to renew every year.

Don't use easyroom to get accommodation while outside the country. Many of the NZ accommodation websites might not even allow you to register because of your ip address. I believe your university might have temporary accommodation. Contact the school to ask about such. When you land, then you can have a feel of the environment and make an informed decision using Trademe and co,

There are a couple of Nigerians in Hamilton. There is no need to worry so much about which airport to land. Either make your booking directly from airline sites or through an agent.

Dear all,

I intend to commence my Study Visa application soon. However, I discovered that I am required to show evidence of a Return Ticket or that I can purchase ticket to leave New Zealand (Onward Travel). Since it is impossible to purchase a return ticket now against the next three or four years when I will be done with my course, can the evidence of UC Doctoral Scholarship which includes monthly stipends satisfy this requirement? Alternatively, If you habe recently applied for a study visa to NZ, kindly tell how you fulfilled this condition. Thank you.

Oga Law, congrats on your admission.
Relax, it is not that difficult. What you need to show is evidence of scholarship, your own bank statement showing you have at least $1000-1500(i will suggest you don't totally rely on the scholarship documentation alone as pof). That is why most applicant show $16500..the pof is $15,000 but you add the extra to cater for the return flight part.

If you are working.... I advise you add all your employment documentation, and possibly an evidence of you returning to the work.

Thank you very much! Regarding the accommodation and cost of living in Christchurch. What would you advice, and how much do you think one will averagely need monthly.

Regards.

Cost of living depends on you.

Accommodation depends on a number of factors - are you coming alone, with spouse and /or children? Rent is paid weekly, as a single person, you should get a room in a shared flat around $100-150/week without utilities(power and internet, you could be lucky to get a place that include all these for the same price). For a start, get a place not far from the university (Ilam, Avonhead, Riccarton, Upper Riccarton, Burnside).

Come with your driver's licence, it will help you move around easily but I will suggest you start with a bike to get a feel of the road code or if you feel confident enough, you can start driving immediately (the prices of cars depend on how "big boy' you want to do from $1000+), any cars
below 20yrs old requires registration and WOF twice a year

There are a lot of popular stores to buy food(Countdown, Pak n Save, etc). Also, from the Indian stores(Yogiji etc) you can get items that are close to Nigerian staples, there is a Nigerian that sells Nigerian foodstuff($$$$$).

Be prepared to work part time alongside your scholarship. The Scholarship is enough for you but if you intend to save and have extra for other activities of life here and back home sq be ready to dig in.

Please if you don't have an Australian transit visa, do not use any airline that will fly through Australia.

There is a Nigerian community, churches(foreign and naija) and mosques.
