The Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has failed to appear before Justice Okon Abang, as the court begins sitting in the case of money laundering between the Federal Government and a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.

The Federal High Court had earlier ordered President Goodluck Jonathan to today appear before it, to testify as a witness in defence of Metuh.

But the court which is presided over by Justice Abang struck out the application filed by Colonel Sambo Dasuki, seeking to set aside the order of the court compelling him to appear before it as a defence witness.

Justice Abang in his ruling struck out the application on the ground that Colonel Dasuki is not a party in the case before him and as such the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application.

The Court adds that entertaining the application will amount to an invitation to judicial anarchy.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of the Court has just informed the court that the bailiff is yet to serve the former President with the order of the court.

The former President was to appear as a defence witness in the suit filed by the Federal Government against Metuh.

Mr Metuh is facing trial for allegedly receiving N400 million out of the $2.1 billion dollars arms fund from the former National Security Adviser to Dr Jonathan, Colonel Sambo Dasuki

Metuh’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu had earlier told the court that he would subpoena the former President as his defence witness during a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.

Ikpeazu said further that a letter has already been written to the former President Jonathan but he was yet to respond.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Niamey, the Republic of Niger to participate in a meeting on common currency for the West African sub-region.

The President left Nigeria this morning to attend the meeting which is planned to have in attendance other ECOWAS Task Force Common Currency member countries and he is currently in the meeting.

The special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has earlier disclosed in a statement on Monday that “the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, will also join the President at the meeting.”

Member countries of the ECOWAS Task Force on Common Currency are ‎Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Niger.

Why We Are Investigating Davido Over Tagbo’s Death, Lagos CP Says

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal has explained the reasons why the police are investigating Hip Hop Star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Speaking on Channels Television Breakfast Show, Sunrise, Imohimi said the actions of Davido calls for suspicion.

“I asked Davido that, ‘When you left that bar, did you have anything again to do with the deceased?’ What he said was that he was only informed by mutual friends in some other bar that the deceased had died and I took his word for it.

“I called for further investigations, pulled the CCTV cameras from the General Hospital, only to discover that it was Davido’s escort Hilux van, his driver, his friends that brought Tagbo Umeike (the deceased) dead and dumped in the hospital then fled the scene.”

Imohimi said this response by Davido raises suspicion, and that is what is been investigated by the police.

“That raises curiosity and of course that’s what we are investigating, and that was why I ordered that the matter be moved to outstate CID at Yaba for proper investigation and of course, we will duplicate the case file and forward to DPP, Ministry of Justice for legal advise, ”

He said he believed Davido’s initial statement that he was only informed by mutual friends about Tagbo’s death and even told the actress, Caroline Danjuma to be careful about what she posts on social media because the integrity of someone is involved.



“When Actress Caroline Danjuma came up on Instagram that Tagbo Umeike was in the company of the Pop-star, Davido and friends when he died and she suspects foul play.

“I was forced to call all parties involved to my conference room as a kind of pre-investigation fact-finding and Davido was there with his family and friends, the victim’s family and friends plus Caroline Danjuma.

“I asked questions. I remember even telling Caroline Danjuma that ‘Look you don’t go on your Instagram page without verifying facts because a person’s reputation is concerned.”

The acting commissioner of Police in Lagos, however, said that the police is not speculating and the investigation into the case is based on facts.

“It is an open sincere process here. We are not speculating, we are basing our reports on facts,” he said.

“Customs decided to follow profiling approach of 100 per cent examination on containers, especially those from Turkey.

“Tin-Can Customs command intercepted another 20ft container No CMAUI817/8 containing 470 pump action rifles immediately the container landed from the port of origin to Nigerian ports.

“The terminal operator was consequently directed to quarantine the container for analysis.

“The container was later transferred to Enforcement Unit of the command where 100 per cent examination revealed it contained 470 pump action rifles.”

“Customs has to go beyond examination because none of the importers has come to pay duties on those vehicles intercepted in August.

“Some of the vehicles are customised..What we are after is to collect duties on any vehicle coming into the country.

“Section 147 of Customs & Excise Management Act (CEMA) gives right to Customs to enter any premises even without search warrant.

“Also, Section 158 of CEMA gives Customs the right to stop and search at any time.”
