Business / How To Start Your Own E-commerce Business In Nigeria by ceomike(m): 12:03pm On Jan 28, 2013
Its another brand new week that has a whole lot of potential to be a great one. I would like to discuss on how you can start your own e-commerce business in Nigeria. This is an area a good number of businesses is doing well today. Since E-bay started online sales, a lot of them have been set-up in different countries and doing well already. We have a good number of successful e-commerce start-ups in Nigeria like Deal Dey, Jumia and many more. In this article, I would be exposing you to what and what is needed to set-up your own business in Nigeria.

Requirements:

1. Goods to sell
2. A very good website
3. Advertising Funds
4. Delivery men.

What To Sell

Before going into your online business, you have to consider what type of goods to sell. There are products that are sure to sell online in Nigeria and there are products that just would not no matter how hard you try to sell them. The best selling products today in Nigeria are mobile phones and accessories, clothing and home gadgets.

It is also preferable you do a thorough research on products people search for online to buy. If you also have a very nice idea on a product you feel would sell, then you can take online. There are many products you can sell. You can start your own online fast food store where people would order food online and have it delivered to them. Before you decide to start your business, you must think thoroughly on the products you want to sell.

Online Website

Your website would turn out to be your office. Its your only tool to pass information to prospective clients and also get them to buy from you. An e-commerce website, can cost you between N70k-N500k depending on the level of website needed. There are some good website designers in Nigeria willing to meet your needs. For a start especially with low capital, you do not need a very big website. Pick one or two products, get your website up and start selling.

The website would come with an e-payment system so people can pay with their ATM cards or credit cards.

Advertising

Its one thing to own a website and its another thing to get it exposed. One vital method to making money doing this business is good advertising. When i talk of advertising, I am talking of online marketing. Because your prospective clients are online and would search online, you would need to promote your products via the internet.

There are a lot of online advertising companies, you can start with in Nigeria today. They include:

Facebook Advertising
Google Advertising
Addynamo
Sharetori
Bloovue

I would be writing a detailed article on the best advertising methods later this week.

Delivery Men

This is optional but if you have big budget, you can do with one or two delivery men to help deliver your goods.

One of the basic rule in online marketing is that you have to stay strong and sell the right goods. Delivering on time is key and your product must be of top quality.

Pls Note: The article is not mine but was sent to my email and though I should share

Read article below:

OF TB JOSHUA'S ‘NEGATIVE’ PREDICTIONS AND ADEBOYE'S ‘NON-EXISTENT’ PREDICTIONS

The online storms that brew this week over the prophecy of Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua about the crash that ended the lives of Governor Yakowa and General Azazi seem to be slowly abating. As the news of the tragic deaths reverberated nationwide, Joshua released a controversial video on YouTube which claimed he had predicted the incident and details relating to it on four different occasions. However, I still feel the need to air my views, furnished by contextual consideration, as the dust settles on the heated debates within social media that were triggered by the prophecy.

Understandably, the video drew its fair share of criticism, the major bone of contention in the minds of viewers and observers being Joshua’s continued proficiency in predicting negative events and his seeming inability to change them after such revelations come forth. I can well understand this mindset, having been one of Joshua’s most skeptical distant observers for long. However, it was last year when my brother fell mysteriously sick that I was basically ‘forced’ to look in Joshua’s direction for help. Doctors told me he had a treatable kidney infection but what I saw was my brother transform from a healthy, vibrant young man to an almost unrecognisable emaciated figure in literally two months, on the verge of death.

After exhausting medical treatment, a good friend of mine advised me to take him to The SCOAN for prayer. Circumstantially driven, I acceded and financed his wife to take him there. Three weeks later, my brother was back on his feet, eating well and regaining his lost vigour. Thus, my interest in Emmanuel TV was born, and I must confess, it has slowly become my daily spiritual food and a constant source of discussion and wonder within our home.

I don’t claim to completely understand T.B. Joshua’s ministry at The SCOAN. On the contrary, many of the things I see there on Emmanuel TV (especially the deliverance) baffle me. However, I have seen enough to know that Joshua is a humble servant of God with quite extraordinary powers he is unequivocally using to uplift society. In my view, he is the best pastor to have come from these shores - with an uncompromising message of salvation, an admirable array of charitable projects and real solutions provided to people who come with myriads of diverse problems.

So, on the argument dealing with his tendency to deliver ‘negative’ predictions, I think this is a case of blaming the messenger for delivering his message. It is sadly indicative of the state of our society and nation and the type of seed we have collectively been planting. As one commenter on the issues arising from Joshua’s prophecy opined, “It's the prophecies of prosperity and ‘it shall be well with the abominable’ that has destroyed any remaining chance for Nigeria's restructuring. The ‘prophecy of doom’ is to the sharpening of man… Let those who prophesy prosperity tell us what has come of it save the acute and nauseating love for money which, as the Holy Book says, is the root of all evil.”

Everyone wants to hear good tidings but how many are genuinely pursuing a righteous and just course that will amalgamate in a tide-turning shift within Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape. God cannot break His own Divine statutes, set in stone from the earth’s formation, the principle of seed-time and harvest. If we continue to harbour corruption, celebrate decadence and have a compromising conflict of deeds and words, what then do we expect God to reveal to His servants about our future? Indeed, a flick through our national dailies reveals enough about the actions and attitude of our nation, its leaders and inhabitants, especially that of our youth, to know that a bleak future awaits us unless there is a radical change.

On Joshua’s revelation without apparent corresponding action and subsequent redemption, I believe the majority of people who heard about the prophecy and quickly drew such abrasive conclusions never actually took the time out to watch the video released on YouTube to the very end. Joshua is very explicit in explaining this issue. He said, “I have been wrestling with certain things. When I say, wrestle, it’s an issue that I keep praying and asking God, ‘What I’m seeing should be changed.’ But God said, ‘No, the whole nation should come together and pray’. So, when I’m hearing my country should come also and pray together, that is when I will come out and tell you what I am seeing in the vision. When I see a vision and I know I can handle it myself, I don’t need to tell you. I will call the wise men and we’ll pray. But when I know that this thing is not possible for me alone and my people to do, I will come out to tell you that this is what I have seen.”

If our eyes were opened spiritually, perhaps we would be privy to see devastating events on the verge of occurring within Nigeria that were forestalled through the prayers of God’s people at SCOAN, the news of which will never reach our earthly ears. Aside from this, the prophet prayed and enjoined the nation to join him. Did we?

I believe many of those blindly criticising the prophet are not well versed with his ministry or accustomed to watching Emmanuel TV. This prophecy is not an isolated proclamation. Indeed, every week, Prophet Joshua prophesies to individuals in the church with uncanny speed, accuracy and consistency. Whether its prayer for the terminally ill, reconciliation of a broken family, deliverance of people under demonic oppression or charity to the widow, orphan and reformed militant, Prophet Joshua is settling real problems with real solutions. It seems to me both insolent and incoherent to suggest he is just a ‘prophet of doom’ who capitalises on misfortunes to project his name. Please, don’t base your view on a single news report.

On a related note, Pastor Enoch Adeboye whose global influence on his flock and command on the common Nigerian is almost inestimable prayed for President Jonathan in his Redeemed Camp just a few hours before the ill-fated crash. The question beckons, did he not have any such revelation about the tragic events on the verge of unfolding merely hours after his public prayer with the President knelt before him? If so, were his prayers effective? Respected Nigerian journalist Femi Adesina of The Sun Newspaper, wrote in his column this week, “Didn’t Pastor Adeboye see the crash as he prayed with President Jonathan? Didn’t the Lord reveal it to him? Couldn’t he have interceded, so that the monumental tragedy would be averted… ‘The secret of the Lord is with those that fear Him,’ says the Good Book. So, why didn’t the Lord confide in Adeboye about the Bayelsa crash, which was to happen some hours after Jonathan had come for prayers… I’m sure the pastor himself must have been somewhat embarrassed when he heard the news.”

The reason I write this is not to gloat or in any way suggest Adeboye’s spiritual incompetence. I just believe it’s time Nigeria recognises who is who in God’s vineyard. Baba Adeboye is a fine preacher but, in my own humble opinion, not a prophet. This is evidenced by his yearly prophetic declarations which are almost nonsensical in nature if perceived to be divinely inspired. He declares simple biblical principles and realities of life and packages them with the title ‘prophecy’ on a yearly basis. It’s high time someone like Adeboye can publicly acknowledges God’s gift in his brother in the vineyard, instead of the baseless bickering, crude condemnation and pulpit-judgement that have caused division within the Nigerian church fold for far too long.

I believe our nation should recognise God’s voice in this trying time and acknowledge the potential pastors, who are genuinely doing God’s work, have to bring Divine direction to those in the helm of affairs in this nation, if they are willing to listen. Who knows - if President Jonathan had visited Joshua for prayer on that fateful day, perhaps Kaduna would still be with its Governor and the deaths of six men would have been averted...

Travel / Five Places To Visit During Xmas In Lagos by ceomike(m): 10:37pm On Dec 15, 2012
If you live in Lagos or you would be around Lagos during the holidays then you can find this article very helpful.

Aside been the busiest state in Nigeria, Lagos can also prove it has the best when it comes to relaxation. I would through a list of five healthy and fun areas to visit in Lagos State.

Silverbird Galleria
Silverbird Galleria
Minimum Budget - Single : N3,000 , Family of Five - N10,000

Located in Victoria Island,The Galleria is an household name and would be a cool spot for you if you plan to go off the mainland this Christmas season. It features cinemas, games spots, boutiques, food and ice cream spots. There are a lot you can enjoy there. Good for the family.

E-Centre, Yaba
Minimum Budget - Single : N3,000 , Family of Five - N10,000

Very much like the Galleria, the E-Centre is another wonderful point located on the mainland. Suitated in Yaba and very close to some of Nigeria's oldest and top institution like University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology,LUTH and West Africa Examination Council. E- Centre is a place for the family. It also features cinemas, games spots, boutiques and many more.

Lekki Conservation Centre
Minimum Budget - Single : N1,000 Family of Five - N5,000 ( Excluding Feeding)

Perhaps one of my best when it comes to tourism in Nigeria. Lekki Conservation Centre could turn out to not only be fun but also very educative. It boast of a natural habitat, home to flying monkeys, one of Nigeria's oldest tortoise, crocodiles(don't panic) and some fun games. You also have a chance to climb a tree house almost the height of a three storey building. You should expect to pay a cheap gate fee and take your food along.

The Palms Shopping Mall
Budget: Largely depends on what you want to do

Whether you plan to shop, watch movies or just have any kind of fun, then you can visit The Palms located in Lekki. If you do not go with cash, then you might regret it. There is really nothing you cannot buy there. Its a nice place for the family or just anybody.

Oniru Beach, Victoria Island
This is my pick if you love beaches. Oniru is a privately owned beach and sure has everything you need when you need a nice beach experience this Christmas. You should give it a try

My holiday move would be first visiting The Palms Lekki, watch a movie there and get some nice foodstuff to take with me to Lekki Conservation Centre.

Phones / How To Turn Your Samsung Galaxy Into A Wifi Hotspot by ceomike(m): 9:24pm On Dec 15, 2012
This short and easy tip could be one of the best you have ever got if you are one of those that have been disappointed by poor internet connections in Nigeria. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S and run a good network on it then you can smile.

Samsung has made it possible for you to share your local internet connection on your phone to other devices. The new feature in the Galaxy S can connect several systems using the network or internet bundle you have subscribed to on your GSM network. Provided you are served well by MTN, Zain, Glo or Etisalat then you can apply this technique. This is one of Samsung's brightest tool

Steps

1. Purchase a mobile internet bundle (for example, MTN cost N100 for 100mb)
2. Go in the Samsung Galaxy S’s Settings menu.
3. Locate Wireless and Network and press Enter
4. Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
5. Press Portable Wifi Hotspot Settings
6. Leave the "Do not show again" as it is and press OK
7. Tap "Configure portable Wifi hotspot" and enter a Name for your Wifi
8. Tap Open under the Security section
9. Click on WPA2 PSK
10. Enter a password of eight characters and press save
11. Move to your laptop or tablet pc and try tosearch for new wireless networks

Arsenal have signed a mega five year deal with Emirates for the team's shirt sponsorship that would run till the 2018/2019 season. The deal is worth a record £150m

A happy Ivan Garzidis said after the deal was signed :

"This is an exciting day for Arsenal Football Club and all our supporters.

"This agreement is a testimony to Arsenal's approach and to the capabilities we have developed in recent years as well as the strength of our partnership with Emirates.

"The original deal with Emirates was a key facilitator of our move from Highbury and this next phase of our relationship will be just as critical to keep us at the top of the game in England and Europe.

"Emirates is the perfect partner for Arsenal and we are delighted to have agreed a new partnership. Emirates is a world-class brand and by flying to more than 120 destinations across six continents has a truly global reach.

"This reach will play an important role in our own ambitions to further extend the depth of our following around the world. The fact this partnership will continue for many years to come underlines how much both organisations value and benefit from the relationship."

According to Goal, Theo Walcott has moved a step closer to signing a deal with Arsenal.

Walcott contract talks have been stalled for a while as the winger rejected a deal worth £75,000 per week wanting £100,000. The player according to reports has agreed to reduce his demands to £90,000 and Arsenal looks set to upo theirs to £80,000.

Educational Services / Steps To Take Before You Apply For Study In USA by ceomike(m): 7:14am On Aug 03, 2012
I know a lot of young Nigerian undergraduates and graduates would seek an opportunity to travel to study in USA. In this write-up, I would just give you useful hint on the requirements, how to about it and people you should see.

Before applying to study in any American school, you should be ready to take some test in Nigeria that you would add to your application. So we take a look at documents you should have before applying.

International Passport
If you do not have an international passport, then you are not ready to study abroad. Before you even think of an American education, you must have a passport. To apply for a passport, you can visit Nigeria Immigration Service website. If you are not a citizen of Nigeria and you are reading this, then you need to visit your country's immigration service.

Test and Examinations
American universities always require that prospective students have good scores in certain test accepted by the school. Now, I know some institutions might not ask you for it or say it is optional but what you should know is that it keeps you safe. That is one of the reasons a lot of students are refused visa at the embassy. You need to have to prove to them at the embassy that you can stand the education in America.

Now to the test, undergraduates would be required to take TOEFL and SAT (and graduates would take GRE and TOEFL. I would explain these exams now.

1. TOEFL - This is an acronym for Test Of English As A Foreign Language. It is a test organised by ETS and its main aim is to test how well you speak English. It test how well you would communicate with the common American and how you can interpret or communicate in writing. Its really not a big deal test but it could count at the embassy so take it serious. Undergraduate and Graduates can submit this.

2. SAT - The Scholastic Aptitude Test is strictly for undergraduates. The exam test your ability to cope with the education system in USA as an undergraduate. It also acts as a screening test so it is highly important you prepare for this test. There are lots of centers in Lagos and other cities in Nigeria where you can register for the test. I would refer you to some at the end of the article.

3. GRE - Graduate Records Examinations is well spelled out. It is strictly for those who want to have their masters program in USA. This exam would be used to test your ability to do well in USA. Some schools might not require it but it is better you take it. You could use as a tool to show how serious and intelligent you are when applying for a visa. It might not be important but its always necessary.

Transcripts
A transcript is a document that contains a record of all your scores in secondary school or the university. If you are an undergraduate, your transcript is a record of your scores from your first year in the college to the last. It is different from your WAEC or NECO results. It is your report card in school. You can get this from your college.

For graduates, your transcripts is a record of all your scores and CGPA in the university. You can always apply for that from your university's Student Records Center or see your Student Union Government for assistance.

Medical documents
Don't think you can gain entrance to US, if you have a disease that can spread via air like tuberculosis. You would be required to prove you have been immunized and you are free from some transferable diseases. This would be documented and signed by a doctor.

Celebrities / Asamoah Gyan Slaps A Carpenter For Calling Him Names by ceomike(m): 8:33pm On Jun 27, 2012
According to a Ghanian Radio station, Happy FM, Ghanian soccer star, Asamoah Gyan got furious and slapped a poor carpenter for calling him “Over The Bar”.
Source: http:///yvvjdj

Read Happy FM’s report below….

Ghana captain John Mensah is begging Ghanaians on behalf of his colleague Asamoah Gyan for the unfortunate incident that occurred last Monday in the Eastern Region.

A persistent innuendo by Frank Giage, a carpenter, infuriated the Al Ain Forward, who descended on him, giving him dirty slaps. The incident occurred when Gyan, in the company of some Black Stars players and celebrities, made a stopover at Linda Dor Restaurant, near Kibi in the Eastern Region.

The carpenter followed Ghana in his comfy Escalade cream 4X4 casting insinuations and referring to him as “over the bar’. The player and those who were with him cautioned the victim to stop following Gyan but he persisted, compelling Gyan to alight and give him a dirty slap. Many condemned Gyan for his action considering the fact that he is a star and recently crowned peace ambassador. Consequently, John Mensah pleaded on ‘Baby Jet’s behalf for the unfortunate incident saying, “I was not around when the incident occurred, but I must say I am sorry for the incident.

The victim should have also considered that errors are part of the game – and the fact that the incident is past and gone and should not be revisited. “In as much as we need the fans because they play very important role in our careers, they should be tolerant and be patient with us,” Mensah said on Happy FM.

The victim did not sound remorseful for his action and even promised that he will repeat it whenever he comes across the player. The Stars and their celebrities’ counterparts travelled in a convoy last Saturday to Kumasi for the 6th Stars Soccer Fiesta Reloaded. The unfortunate incident happened on their return to the capital city on Monday evening.

Foreign Affairs / Pastor Arrested For Stealing $18m by ceomike(m): 12:36pm On Jun 26, 2012
Pastor and Founder of one of Singapore's richest church has been arrested in Singapore by a Corporate Affairs Department, a police unit for embezzling of about $18m donated by members of his church.

The church, City Harvest Church boast a size of 30,000 members was registered as a charity and its one of the largest and riches churches in Singapore.

Pastor Kong Hee and four other executives were arrested for diverting $18m (SG$23m) earmarked for charitable projects and spent money on a bid by the pastor’s wife, Ho Yeow Sun, to launch an evangelical music career in the United States.

The church, which has affiliates in neighbouring Malaysia and other countries, is famous for services that resemble pop concerts.

“It’s confirmed that five persons were arrested and Kong Hee is one of them,” a police spokesman told AFP.

All five, who are out on bail, have also been suspended from their church positions.

Kong and his wife, whose whereabouts were unknown, became minor celebrities in Singapore for launching the church, which authorities estimate had a congregation of about 33,000 and net assets of Sg$103 million in 2009.

In a post on popular microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday morning, Kong tweeted a Bible Psalm in Mandarin saying God will protect him from evil.

Authorities began an investigation in 2010 after receiving complaints about the misuse of the funds, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, which oversees charitable institutions, said in a press release.

“Financial irregularities of at least Sg$23 million from the Charity’s funds have been discovered,” it said.

“There was a concerted effort to conceal this movement of funds from its stakeholders.”

The five will be charged in court on Wednesday and if convicted, each of them could face life imprisonment as well as a fine.

Church officials contacted by AFP did not comment.

In 2009, a prominent Buddhist monk heading one of Singapore’s largest charities was jailed for six months for misappropriating hospital funds and lying about it to authorities.

Politics / US Adds Boko Haram To "Terrorist " List by ceomike(m): 10:03pm On Jun 21, 2012
The United States on Thursday named three alleged leaders of the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram as "foreign terrorists," the first time it has blacklisted members of the Islamist group blamed for attacks across Africa's most populous nation.

The State Department identified the three as Abubakar
Shekau, calling him the "most visible" leader of the group, and
Abubakar Adam Kambar and Khalid al-Barnawi, who it said were
tied both to Boko Haram and to al Qaeda's north African wing.

"These designations demonstrate the United States' resolve
in diminishing the capacity of Boko Haram to execute violent
attacks," it said, saying that Boko Haram or associated
militants were responsible for more than 1,000 deaths in the
past 18 months.

The action by the State and Treasury Departments, first
reported by Reuters on Wednesday, followed growing pressure on the Obama administration to take stronger action against Boko
Haram, which has stepped up attacks on Christian places of
worship this year in its drive to establish an Islamic caliphate
in northern Nigeria.

U.S. officials say the decision to list individual Boko
Haram members, rather than apply the more sweeping "Foreign
Terrorist Organization" label to the group as a whole as some
U.S. lawmakers have demanded, reflected a desire not to elevate
the group's profile.

"We took this measure to designate these three because they
are clearly kingpins of Boko Haram and clearly all of them have
advocated terrorism as a weapon," State Department spokeswoman
Victoria Nuland told a news briefing.

"We're continuing to look at the question of a broader
designation."

Webmasters / How To Use The Social Media To Promote Your Blog by ceomike(m): 5:56pm On Jun 18, 2012
Before going into blogging or even if you are in the business already, you would have to understand that promoting your blog via social media is key to increasing your presence online.

I would like to share several tips on how to promote your blog properly using social media.

1. All Blogs Must Have A Facebook Page:
Your blog must have a Facebook Page in the name of your blog. This makes it easy for users who do not have your blog url to browse their Facebook Wall, search for your blog name, visit your Facebook Page and directed to your website.

2. Use The Facebook Commenting System
If you are not using this system, then you are loosing out on a lot of traffic. If you use Wordpress, you can get plugins for Facebook Comment System. The advantage of this is that it helps you promote your blog on Facebook profiles of users who just commented on your website. When a comment is made on your website, the system post the same comment and a link to your website on the "commenter's" wall. His friends would get to see comment made on his wall and thus can visit yours.

3. Create A Dummy Facebook Page
When I say "Dummy", I do not mean "Fake".
A "Dummy" Facebook Page is a real Facebook Page that does not bear the same name with your blog but in the same niche. Consider owning a blog about Pets and you would like to promote the website on Facebook, then you would have to create a page in that interest. You can create a page and title " I hate those who hate pets". What you have now done is to bring about a Poll or Community kind of page. More people would like your page than they would to your brand name. You can now promote the page via Facebook ads, get close to 3,000 fans and start updating from your blog.

In a latter article, I would be showing you how to run adverts on Facebook at penny cost.

4. Use Blog Name As Username
If you can, use the name of your blog as your username on any social profiles.

5. Join Facebook Groups
The other step is to join Facebook Groups for Bloggers and share your blogs. This could be helpful as you could learn a whole lot from them. Do some link sharing with them to get huge number of backlinks and watch your ranking soar.

6. Create A Linkedin Account And Add Your Blog
Linkedin is a social network for professionals. if you do not have an account, please do register. In your profile, you can add up to three websites. Choose the "Blog" option and enter your blog url. What this does is to feed latest post from your blog to your profile.

Politics / How A Phone Call Saved A Life From The Dana Air Crash by ceomike(m): 8:00am On Jun 09, 2012
Mr Paul Apel, a Nigerian filmmaker should be a dead man by now but for a phone call.

Mr Paul had just concluded a business deal in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja and booked his flights tickets back to Lagos. He was to fly the Dana Airline that later crashed that day killing 153 passengers on board, leaving no survivors.

After the deal conclusion, Mr Apel packed his belongings to travel until he received a call from his business partners in Lome, Togo to return to the Abuja office for an important arrangement. An unhappy Apel had to go back as he had no option.

On completion of what took him back to the office, he quickly boarded a taxi to the airport to board the Dana flight but again, the cab was unduly delayed by another. The car was blocked by another one and they could not immediately get the driver to remove the car for them to move at once to the airport.

Angered by the delay, Apel did his best to catch up with the flight but still missed it. By the time he arrived the airport, the ill-fated plane was taxing off and he had to wait for another flight to Lagos the following day..

“I was supposed to be on the flight but suddenly I received a call from one of my partners to edit something for him. That forced me to turn back to Abuja. I never knew that the call was divinely planned even though I was initially angry when it came.”
“I have no choice than to go to church to thank the Lord for protecting my life and to draw closer to Him,” Apel said.
