Moren002:Faculty?? Grade Year of graduation?? |
Wow...over 400 nairaland emails.... Guys lets just ask the questions here. I'm sure many of us have d same questions Its not possible to treat all mails individually |
Abidek900:What route?? What's your qualification?? What kinda job you coming over for? What's your salary expectations?? The Dubai project should begin wt these questions |
merrygorou:If you got indepth knowledge in your field, look for a way to factor in a related experience in your CV. Its best you apply for jobs here from naija. In the mean time try get a PGDE. If you still got nothing by then, you move over |
promzy555:Hmm bros... You wanna invest 1.4m when you neva know wetin go come out?? Whats your qualification?? |
Snowkel:Try get a pgd education b4 coming here Just to widen Yuh options. There isn't that much a NEED in those sectors you mentioned |
merrygorou:How long you been working and where you got experience? |
Snowkel:What sector are you exactly looking at and what are your salary expectations?? Its not everywhere they send your degree. Many graduates here doing unspecialised labor jobs |
Back2seder:Hmm....cant say...that's one sector I've never had cause to research. Give me some time to to and I'll get back to you |
GoldenJAT:Its gonna be tough. Very tough |
Symphony1:Hi Can you just ask your questions here?? The PMs are a lot. Cant begin to take it one after the other |
Snowkel:Social work?? Under what dept?? |
promzy555:How much salary do you think that would offer?? |
francesawesome:What other qualifications do you have?? |
promzy555:What Job are you coming here to do? |
isthatso:My dear I cant really say. Here, they say PDA is an offense. As in, dont even hold hands in public but people do and they dont get arrested. But i know they don't kiss in public And i c lots of live-in-lovers. So those stories... |
GoldenJAT:What did you study |
Zeinymira:You'll get all your nursing everything from naija to show Yuh fully licensed to practice. And then you come down here for DHA assessment exam and license. I hear the exam is cheap buh i know someone who's attempted it 6 times Health and education are two sectors that hardly fail you here |
Sterope:To avoid being at the mercy of your employer, you can just get your own visa. When Yuh boss pisses you off, you just hiss and walk out |
Jaynom:Yes. And they love owning you. My friend came down on a resident visa. He's bn here less than a year but his employers are advising him to cancel his visa and be under theirs. Just so that they can own him. And no, the employers are not Arabs, they are Americans |
Zeinymira:B sc. Nurse?? |
Three weeks later i heard from the agency. I was given date time and venue for the interview. I wasn't sure what/how to prepare. I just did some editing on my cv and made the journey to Dublin. The interview was nothing I've never experienced in my life. It lasted all of about 20 minutes. It was mostly chit chat and some questions like; how would you decorate your classroom? how would you manage a child with ADD (attention deficit disorder)? what are your classroom management skills? what if a student is dyslexic? are you aware of the cultural reservations in the middle east? have you been to the middle east before? Me Did you miss the part where i said I was from Nigeria? In Nigeria we have Islam and Christan majority. I am a Christian, but have lived in the north all my life. So I know about Islam. In Nigeria, corporal punishment is very illegal. In fact I.....bla bla bla. And so interview ended with the promise of you'll hear from us. Na so I go house. Two weeks later, I got an email asking me to make copies of the following documents available - transcript, highest degree, birth cert etc These documents should be attested at your countries ministry of of this and that. Please note that the ministry of education, UAE, would not bear the cost of these attestations. And then the sweet part Me Offer of employment?? Just like that?? A few days later I was on my way to naija to get my affairs in order. |
soleexx:There's no permanent anything here. The longest contract you get is 3years after which it can be renewed. You're free to date and marry and have kids. Your employers would tell you if they wanna keep your passport or not. Imagine you're working where you had access to huge sums and your passport wt you. What stops you from handing over the cash to your cohort and fleeing the country? These employers are just tryna err on the side of caution and i tell you no one would hold your passport against your will. If you decide after 3 months to leave any job, your passport would be returned. But your employer would report you, and you'll be placed on a work ban |
CptCharlesVane:Dude, I still stand my ground, there's slavery everywhere. Its now up to you to decide whether or not you wanna put up with it. In naija theres been cases of people who work in factories owned by Lebanese/Indians/Chinese. They get locked overnight in these factories and there's a fire outbreak and there's no exit. There are people in naija who work 18hours in a day for peanuts. These ones have a choice but they still do these jobs. When they manage to leave, other people take it The UAE is not Oman or Saudi Arabia or any other extreme middle east state. Its not even Nigeria. Over here. workers right are protected here but people just choose to settle for less I personally would never turn in my passport to any employer |
Cocao:Lol thanks mama ![]() |
doggedfighter:Cache pronounced cash. Duration is one year, give or take. Costs around 1.5m naira. Not done in Nigeria. You might get it in SA |
@doitforyou Yea you get thrown in jail for some 3 months. You usually face ds reality at the point of exit at the airport. So maybe at that point in time they might just decide to let you go. In which case a life ban will be placed on you. And I'm sure you know what that means even for visa applications to other countries. But lets say the police busted you in a wrong situation like using the public transport and not logging in your card, then straight up to jail first, after 3months deportation, and then blacklist/ban |
@kelechi50 There's slavery everywhere. Best bet is to stay in your home country. You think its all rosy in Europe and the Americas. Yeah granted no one holds your passport but you see instances where people live in advanced countries and dare not make a move out of the country, stuck there for even up to 10yrs cos its a requirement for papers |
janettee:If an employer insists on keeping your passport, you are very free to decline and walk away. It is not by force. You don't need money to make a case. Simply walk up into a police station. Over here people cower at d mention of police |
CptCharlesVane:Most job contracts have a 2year duration. After one year you're entitled to a paid vacation that includes to and fro flight to your home country. Many of this contract require that you work at least a year b4 you can resign. In my case, I work as a teacher and I can only resign at the end of an academic session. Anything short of this is a breach, and can result in a work ban. If your employer refuses to give you your passport and you're able to make a case against him, he can be blacklisted and deported too. The UAE is not that lawless |
CptCharlesVane:I have my passport with me. It is illegal here in the UAE to withhold an employees passport. Your passport is your personal property. Only those kpangolo employers hold on to passport and desperation is why people work for them |
Factgist:Sure. Buh I think its like that everywhere. |
Year of graduation??
