What is the argument here? The living standard or which country is richer? The Nigerian economy is bigger than the UAE in nominally GDP. When converted in purchasing power parity, Nigerian economy is over a 1.2 trillion dollars while that of UAE is just 600 billion dollars. What most here don't know is that before 2060 Nigeria economy will be bigger than that of Canada, United Kingdom, France, South Korea and almost 98% of Western Europe. I don't think it's fair comparing Lagos with Chicago. Lagos is a state and a city while Chicago is a city and the capital of Ilinois.
I think the comparisons should be Chicago vs Ikeja or Lagos vs IIlinois.

well i dont cherish glamorous cities. Life is all about PURPOSE. there is a popular saing in Nigeria that WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN SOKOTO YOU CAN STILL GET IT IN SHOKOTO. in cities like that only few are rich - investors, business men/women and high govt officials. the rest are just jobbers living from hand to mouth and just like you have said they are just claiming to rub shoulders with whose who. we need a combination of a discovery of PURPOSE, VISION, PASSION to really live a fulfilling life wherever we find ourselves.

but there are parts of our cities that are good looking.

Those should be projected, I have once seen some spectacular
pictures of some Nigerian cities, such as bonny island, part of abuja,
parts of Calabar and Uyo.

Tell me which part of Chicago you lived in and I will deliberately go there and take a picture of a dirty street in that place. I live in North West Suburb which is mainly whites and a mix of middle/upper class. However there are places in North side and South Side that are dirtier than Ojota.
This week several places were flooded in Chicago suburbs just like they had in Lagos. Lagos has Cable TV, Internet, Mobile communication, Rapid Bus transport, major tarred roads and big Malls and tourism spots.
Whatever setbacks Nigeria has is because we the humans are the problem. Evans sef go talk say Nigeria is corrupt.
The difference between Lagos and Chicago is the darn people - In Lagos we have low esteem, inferiority complex , egoistic, sabotaging, dubious, tribalistic bigots. It is attitudes like this that make majority of us that has no business traveling go kneeling down for Embassy officials young enough to be your kid sister or brothers. Majority of whites are not half as educated as us yet we tremble at their presence because we do not appreciate who or what we are. Thats why they still think we are bunch of monkeys.
Better I stay in US than come back home to associate with people that think they are bunch of losers.

I believe this story to an extent. I remember watching a Battabox video where the presenter interviewed a guy who makes N300k/month from cooking and selling infinite noodles and boiled egg by the roadside.

As some posted said earlier, with the present high price of foodstuff, it's not far fetched for a banana seller to be able to afford to fly; after all she could buy a local flight ticket for N20k.
