lol okay. marketing a broad subject. marketing starts with identifying customer's needs which is made possible through marketing research and consumer behaviour ( a study of consumer's consumption habits & preferences).
Before a company thinks of launching a product, it has to arm itself with a marketing plan. now.the marketing plan will consist of a assessment of competitor's products, strategies etc. now the company may decide to produce products similar to that of its competitors or adopt similar strategies used by its competitors. it may also choose to create a new product from the scratch and then decide on the price, distribution & promotion strategies.
Advertising comes in the promotion stage. the company decides on the advert copy, the medium whether tv, radio, billboard or online. now the company can effectively differentiate its product, remind customers about their product and influence them to purchase their products with advertising.
Simply put, marketing covers creating products of value that will satisfy consumers while advertising helps influence consumers into buying those products
