45 of the 63 women who escaped captivity after being abducted by Islamic Radical group, Boko Haram at Damboa and Chibok villages in Borno State have been recaptured by the group after reportedly attacking military and police formations in Damboa last Friday night. According to sources, those that escaped captivity were 18, leaving 45 abductees in the hands of insurgents. It was gathered that scores of the insurgents and 17 soldiers and several policemen died during the attack to re-capture the women and children. A member of the Chibok Vigilante Group confirming the attack said, that 63 women and children who initially escaped during the clashes between the military and Boko Haram had been recaptured, while attempting to flee from the camps where they were held in their respective villages. He said: “It is very unfortunate and shocking to tell you today (yesterday) that 45 of the 63 escaped women and children were kidnapped again on Sunday night, leaving only 18 that ran into this forests.”

MERGER: Why We Are Not Part of APC – Accord Party.

“You know that these merger leaders are already old horses, we don’t want to join them and stain our party".

The national leadership of Accord Party (AP) yesterday gave reasons why it decided to back out of merger of opposition political parties, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The national secretary of the party, Dr Samson Isibor who spoke with LEADERSHIP in an interview in Benin also expressed fear over the workability of the merger adding that the presidential ambition of the key players in the merger if not handled properly may truncate the their quest to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the 2015 presidential election.

The AP scribe also hinged the decision of the party to back out of the merger on the need to strengthen the party adding that “ Accord Party is new and untainted for the future.”

He said, “My party believes in the idea, we are going solo as far as the merger is concern. To have a viable opposition is good to checkmate the excesses of the PDP, because what we have seen since 1999 is that there is no credible opposition.

“You know that these merger leaders are already old horses, we don’t want to join them and stain our party. We will go ahead and participate in every election in the country just as we are currently doing in the forthcoming local government elections in Edo State.”- Leadership.
