I'm going on a Christmas vacation and I need a good, reliable and sanitary boarding kennel for my dog please refer me to people. |
Something horrible happened today. My niece and my daughter were playing in the compound when one of my husband's brother came in Ralph is usually friendly towards him. the girl's ran over to him to greet him and take the goodies he bought, immediately my daughter opened the popcorn he bought for her Ralph got up and ran towards him aggressively and started barking at him, snarling and running round him my niece ran in to call me, I went out and called Ralph but he didn't answer me he just kept on barking my bro-in-law could not move because any time he moved Ralph barked I grabbed his collar and he nearly bit me :O my daughter grabbed his collar (Why didn't he snarl at her) and my bro-in-law left. I'm shocked is my dog dangerous? Didthe popcorn trigger anything? please someone should tell me what to do because 'A stitch in time saves nine' Advise please : he has been in his free time area(with food, water and his toy of course) I'm sure being away from the family is enough punishment

My puppy's nipping is getting to much and the oyinbo method is what I can't do Their method is To stop your puppy from hurting people: to teach him to inhibit the force of his play-bites. It is not necessary to reprimand the pup, and certainly physical punishments are not called for. But it is essential to let your puppy know that bites can hurt. A simple "Ouch!" is usually sufficient. When the puppy backs off, take a short time out to "lick your wounds," instruct your pup to come, sit, and lie down to apologize and make up. Then resume playing. If your puppy does not respond to your yelp by easing up or backing off, an effective technique is to call the puppy a "Bully!" and then leave the room and shut the door. Allow the pup a minute or two time-out to reflect on the association between his painful bite and the immediate departure of his playmate. PLEASE OPINIONS AM SURE AM not the only owner complaining and cats scratching too. ![]()

YOU ARE HERE: HOME / DOGS / DOG HEALTH / ABNORMAL HEAT CYCLES IN FEMALE DOGS Abnormal heat cycles in female dogs MAY 10, 2016 BY SIGNE & MARIS MUNKEVICS We all love to plan ahead and trust that everything is predictable. Mother Nature likes that too; however, she’s not always able to deliver. While most dogs go into heat twice a year and stay in heat for 21 days, abnormalities do occur. This article gives a brief summary about possible abnormalities in the heat cycle of female dogs. Sometimes a cause can be innocent, such as a dog coming into heat due to immaturity. However, the heat cycle can often be disrupted by serious health issues. Therefore, veterinary attention should be sought if one of the following occur. Silhouette of woman and a female dog Absent heat As the name implies, absent heat is when a dog does not come into heat, even though it should. It can occur in young dogs who have not yet come into their first heat after the age of two or in mature dogs who had cycled regularly before but suddenly stopped cycling. Reproductive system diseases are the most common cause of absent heat, and the dog should be examined by a veterinarian. Absent heat can also be caused by medicine used for treating other conditions, especially if the medicine involves hormonal therapy. Talk to your veterinarian, but in most cases, the heat cycle should eventually return to normal if the treatment is applied properly. Poor general health in a dog can also trigger a skipped heat cycle in order to conserve energy. Absent heat is often confused with the dog not being fully mature yet and so-called silent heat, which is described next. Silent heat Silent heat happens when the dog is in heat, is receptive, can get pregnant, but does not show heat signs. Sometimes males are not attracted to dogs in silent heat, but they often are. In most cases, signs are actually present but are so weak that dog owners miss them. These are the lucky ones because many people struggle with their dog’s behavior changes during heat. It’s not uncommon for smaller dog breeds to have one or two silent heats before clear symptoms appear. Silent heat should not be confused with the owner’s inexperience at noticing symptoms, as bloody discharge and the swelling of the vulva may easily go unnoticed or get mistaken for something else. If a dog is in silent heat, the only way to confirm the heat cycle is to take the dog to the vet who will perform vaginal secretion and blood tests. Split heat Split heat is when the heat cycle begins, but then stops before the second phase, standing heat, begins. It commonly occurs in young dogs during their first heat because the hormonal systems are unable to induce ovulation. In the case of young dogs, there should be no worries, and normal heat cycle is likely to reoccur within two to ten weeks. On the other hand, split heat in a mature dog should be examined by a veterinarian. Prolonged heat Dogs are normally in heat for 21 days. Anything longer than that is considered to be a prolonged heat. This is a relatively frequent occurrence, and there is nothing to be concerned about in younger bitches. However, if prolonged heat occurs when the dog has reached maturity (2-3 years), a veterinary examination is necessary. Most often mature dogs stay in heat for too long because of an ovarian cyst or tumor. While it sounds unfortunate, when diagnosed early, the reproductive organs usually can be surgically removed with no fiurther health hazard. Too frequent cycling Most dogs come into heat twice a year, but it is common for dogs to cycle three or four times per year. There should be no worries if this happens in young dogs; their cycling frequency must stabilize as they mature. However, if your dog cycled regularly before, but suddenly started coming into heat more often, she must be seen by a veterinarian. Note that if you are into breeding, some of those “extra” heats may be infertile since the dog’s body needs proper time to recover from the previous cycle. Too rare cycling While dogs normally come into heat twice a year (except some specific breeds who go into heat once a year), it is still normal if a dog does not come into heat up to a year or a year and a half, especially for young or old dogs. Everything longer than a year requires medical examination, especially if your dog has had a regular heat cycle before. Unfortunately, there are too many possible causes to make speculations on a website, and you must visit a veterinarian. This article is a part of series about female dogs in heat. |

When to Separate Puppies from the Litter. Please be patient When puppies are born, owners are often eager to welcome these new additions to their families. It might be tempting to assimilate them into their new human family immediately, or to pass them on to new loving homes. However, the most important thing in this crucial time of puppies’ lives is to be with their mother and new brothers and sisters. If the proper timeline isn’t followed, the puppies could develop problems later in life, and the mother can experience medical problems. PuppiesYoung Pups During the first few weeks of a puppy’s life, it is extremely dependent on its mother, much like a human child. The puppy gets its food and love from mom. In addition, puppies learn important social skills from the mother and siblings in these early weeks. For instance, puppies learn by playing with their littermates that biting is bad, as well as when “play” might be too rough. The recommended age for separating puppies from their litter is 6 to 8 weeks, according to Dr. David W. Reinhard, a consulting veterinarian for Nationwide pet insurance. By this time, puppies should have been socialized to their human counterparts, a process that takes place between 3 and 12 weeks of age, Reinhard says. It is crucial that during this period, puppies are introduced to humans and increase their contact with people. “This is the time when they learn that humans are dominant and develop personality traits that last a lifetime,” Reinhard advises. To help the puppies get acquainted with their human owners, give daily individual attention to each puppy to get him or her used to positive interaction with people. A litter of Labrador retrieversAll About Mom This 6 to 8 week timetable fits into the period when supplemental feeding should be instituted and final weaning takes place, according to Reinhard. It is important that weaning from the mother be a gradual practice — for both the mother’s health and the puppies’. This can be achieved by reducing the frequency of nursing and supplementing the puppies’ diets. This approach allows for orderly “drying up” of the mammary glands, Reinhard says. “Abrupt weaning, especially when large litters are involved, results in congestion of the mammary glands, which can be painful and may lead to mastitis, the inflammation of mammary glands,” he says. Potential Consequences If puppies are separated from a litter too soon, some health and behavioral consequences may occur. Below are just a few of the problems that could take place if your pup is split from the group too soon: Puppies Poor physical condition Decreased weight gain Increased disease susceptibility Decreased learning ability Separation anxiety |
