owobokiri: It is not dubious logic. it is a strategy that is clearly working and should be adopted by other states. The only thing is that there should be transparency in what is being paid to these consultants! Calling him a robber on this basis shows you lack understanding. This happens in the US. ABC collects less than 10%. My only request is LASG should come out and give details of the contract. In September 2006, the IRS started to outsource the collection of taxpayers debts to private debt collection agencies. Opponents to this change note that the IRS will be handing over personal information to these debt collection agencies, who are being paid between 29% and 39% of the amount collected. Opponents are also worried about the agencies' being paid on percent collected, because it will encourage the collectors to use pressure tactics to collect the maximum amount. IRS spokesman Terry Lemons responds to these critics saying the new system "is a sound, balanced program that respects taxpayers' rights and taxpayer privacy." Other state and local agencies also use private collection agencies.[39] |

If Jonathan is committed to seeing INEC succeed, they should declare one day public holiday on a Friday with the sole aim of encouraging people to pick their voter's card. 5 Likes 1 Share |

pendy79: It didn't even move from 8 billion monthly, it moved from 600 million monthly pre-1999 to 18 - 21 billion monthly which is 2900% increase in the space of 12 - 16 years. Now, compare that to how Nigeria at the centre has performed - we do not even know the actual revenue generated by the Federal government monthly. A house of reps member recently put that figure at 20 trillion naira and we know that this is not factual. If Alpha Beta revolutionized tax administration in Lagos, shouldn't they be praised? 2900% increase isn't a small feat. Did anyone ask the Federal Government how much they paid consultants like PwC to come up with the number plates and drivers license which they used to milk Nigerians? 3 Likes |
Politics / Re: 2015 Budget Analysis...acceptable? by chemali: 10:50am On Mar 02, 2015 |
This government isn't serious yet about making the hard choices. Where are the cuts? If every MDA is mandated to provide a budget with 40% cut, it would become evident how the revenue during the oil price boom was frittered away with needless expenditures. |

The clueless one talked about the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in a way that made it seem like it's not part of the responsibility of the FG to prevent its spread. He complains of bitterness when his campaign has been the most bitter and negative ever run in Nigeria - a campaign that seeks to divide Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines. He should be ashamed of himself. 12 Likes 1 Share |

stevecantrell: It's not in the common man's interest that the oil price should rebound. Our naira has been seriously devalued. A rebound in oil prices will lead to significantly high prices at the pumps and no salary increases. The naira won't go back to early 2014 levels and government is committed to removing fuel subsidy. 1 Like |

Politics / Will Fuel Price Be Going Up Soon? by chemali: 5:50pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
There has been reports of scarcity of fuel in different states. Today in PH, a lot of filling stations were closed. I ended up buying fuel at a filling station with queues for 110 Naira a litre. Should we expect a post election or pre election fuel price increase considering the devaluation of the naira and increase in fuel subsidy? |

ikennaoma: It didn't start to work all of a sudden in Lagos. There was enforcement. However, from what I perceive, TIMARIV/Police refrain from arresting the consistent culprits which are the commercial transport operators and focus on private individuals. Also, those who blow sirens or go around with escorts flout the rules. If there is enforcement across board, the traffic light would work. |

Politics / Re: There Is No Single Traffic Light In Rivers State. by chemali: 10:13am On Feb 23, 2015 |
Abagworo: You have a point here but implementing the traffic lights require a holistic approach, not just switching them on because they exist. Have traffic demands been analysed? How's indiscriminate stopping by commercial vehicles at key junctions been handled? How is the use of appropriately designed bus stops being handled? If you turn them on today, like you said, the city will be locked down. If appropriately implemented, it would go a long way in alleviating the madness in PH roads. |
Politics / Re: There Is No Single Traffic Light In Rivers State. by chemali: 10:07am On Feb 23, 2015 |
rodbel: I agree. Traffic lights never work with bad roads. However, there is so much impunity displayed by drivers of cabs and tricycles which even traffic lights cannot handle. Traffic lights in itself won't solve this issue. A hard stance on traffic violations should be taken. The incoming government should clearly have a plan to tackle traffic management as I believe Amaechi has failed in that regards. |

After 16 years of PDP, Okonjo has no good thing to say about the fight against corruption AFTER investing billions of Naira in fighting corruption, the verdict of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is that corruption persists in Nigeria because we do not have institutions, systems and processes to prevent corruption. She should know. "The cause of the disease is that we do not have in place the institutions, the systems and the processes to block and prevent it in the first place. That is the only difference between us and the people abroad," Okonjo-Iweala said at the Catholic Caritas Foundation Forum in Abuja. People, she said, would shun corruption if the appropriate systems were in place. She did not say what her idea of the appropriate measures to prevent corruption would be or what she thought of the two anti-corruption agencies - Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC. What about the police and other security agencies? What systems and processes does the Minister expect to prevent corruption? http://allafrica.com/stories/201502200152.html |

Ballot Papers In another deal, the nation's equivalent of the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing took out a $21-million loan at a staggering 22% interest rate to buy equipment supposedly to print ballots for next month's election. Emefiele is also chairman of the bureau, and the loan came from the bank he used to run. The bureau did not have the contract to print the ballots. An Emefiele spokesman has denied any hanky-panky According to numerous civil servants I've interviewed, public procurement invoices are often grossly inflated. “When it comes to a job that attracts money,” a defense ministry IT worker told me last year, “only the director and the deputy director have knowledge of the real terms of the deal.... If it's 10 million, the director says, ‘Make it 12 million.” Procurement will say, ‘Make it 15 million.' And the permanent secretary says, ‘Make it 25.'” http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-chayes-nigeria-corruption-election-20150201-story.html |

Ekiti Gate The audio recordings depict the meeting as being attended by the eventual “winner” of the election, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti; Senator Iyiola Omisore; a man identified as Honorable Abdulkareem; the Minister for Police Affairs Caleb Olubolade; and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro who was at the time the Minister of State for Defence. Mr. Chris Uba came to Ekiti with huge stash cash and soldiers from the East to carry out the assignment. The 37-minute recording details the conversation between these men as they bribed Brigadier General Momoh with a promotion for his assistance in carrying out election fraud in Ekiti. In it, Obanikoro is clearly heard informing the group of men, “[I] am not here for a tea party, am on special assignment by the President.” SaharaReporters further received credible intelligence that President Goodluck Jonathan had instructed the Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, to use the army in arresting and intimidating opposition politicians before and during the election. The audio recording provides exact details of the plot, with the collaborators almost degenerating into physical combat. http://saharareporters.com/2015/02/05/how-obanikoro-fayose-chris-uba-and-brig-general-momoh-rigged-ekiti-governorship-election |
Politics / Re: Is Buhari A Good Alternative To President Jonathan? by chemali: 10:23am On Feb 22, 2015 |
Buhari was a better alternative in 2011 and is still a better alternative today! Leadership is seriously lacking in Nigeria. The way the president's lackeys utter nonsense in public without restraint is an evidence of an ineffective leader. Also, what improvements have we felt between 2011 and 2015? The light situation is still bad despite 16 years of investment by PDP, we have a very poor intelligence service, hardship has increased coupled with a very weak naira and so on. What has this government achieved? People are confidently corrupt now. There is so much division along tribal and religious lines and the government has exploited this further. Terrorism has flourished and rather than fight when it reared it's ugly head, Jonathan resigned to fate saying it's our turn to experience terrorism. Now, when chances of his reelection are dim, he wants to fight. Buhari is a far better alternative. He has the character and demeanor of someone who's serious about taking the hard decisions. 2 Likes |

OKDnigeria: That is why I listed all the years from 1999 to 2014. You can see it from the data I presented sourced from TI. The inference I made was based on this data! And if you choose to be objective, comparing from 1999 to 2014, you will draw the same conclusion. You can look at the data sourced from TI again above. |
