Great News!!! I LOVE BIAFRA....The land of the rising sun! |
Chai...The 'parallel government' man Life! |
On the 16th of April 2011, there l stood at the receiving end of the treacherous blaze of the Lagos mid-day sunshine. As l looked on in clear contempt for the literally unending snaky line of people on the queue opposite me; enduring the endless jibes thrown at those of us on the other queue, a number of things piqued my mind. My contempt was hinged on one fundamental issue: here we were as a nation, with a chance to for once make a detour from the perilous path we had trod since the new democratic dispensation, and we were on the verge of throwing it all away. We had a choice to make between Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP and General Muhammadu Buhari who was the standard bearer of the CPC. The battle cry then was ‘’l am voting for Goodluck and not PDP’’. The General had a few days earlier shed tears on national TV and that for me was as bad as it could get. It was a testament to how badly he wanted to right the wrongs that had brought a once great nation to its knees. As l cast my vote for the General, and left the polling booth, l knew it was a tall order expecting the General to win, but l was satisfied that even as a Rivers man from the same South-South geopolitical zone as his opponent, l had voted with my conscience. That alone was good enough for me. Four years on, we are yet again faced with a similar scenario; with a choice to decide who would lead our great nation for another four years and ironically the gladiators are the same. However, this time, General Buhari as against running on the platform of the CPC is the flag bearer of the APC; a coalition of opposition parties who have made the occupation of Aso Rock their primary objective. To achieve this purpose, they are leveraging on the mantra of ‘’CHANGE’’ as their value proposition. A cardinal linchpin of this mantra is the fight against corruption; yes, that hydra headed monster that has eaten so deep into every facet of our national lives. And who is best suited to be the fulcrum of this proposition than General Buhari, the one man who is touted to be the embodiment of honesty, integrity and incorruptibility. To be certain, these were the very same virtues on which my voting for Buhari in 2011 was premised. However, like they say, a day in politics is a long time. If we are to do an extrapolation based on this wise saying, you can imagine what four years translates to. Well, the materialization of that can clearly be seen in the calibre of characters the General has surrounded himself with in the APC. Amongst these are two of the most corrupt individuals to have ever trodden the Nigerian political landscape. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs no introduction in contemporary Nigeria. Like a colossus, he has bestrodden this landscape for as long as our memories can take us. Actively participating in the opposition NADECO during the despotic terror reign of Sani Abacha, he became governor of Lagos State during the fourth republic. As compensation for his activism, Tinubu helped himself in no small measure to the Lagos State treasury, a skill he still exhibits masterfully by proxy, under the Fashola administration. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on the other hand has earned his corruption stripes. If corruption were an army, he would easily be a five star General. As speaker of the Rivers State House Assembly, he was the quintessential rubber stamp that sealed the financial debauchery and recklessness that was the hallmark of Dr. Peter Odili’s eight year reign. If there was any doubt about the ridiculous levels of looting perpetuated by the Odili government, the interminable injunction against his being investigated by the EFCC, granted by an Abuja High Court, tells the whole story. As Governor, Amaechi has simply exploited all the ‘’lootocracy’’ skills he acquired under the tutelage of his principal. Between them, these two men; Tinubu and Amaechi, are the biggest financiers of the Buhari candidacy. The question any discerning mind should then ask is, what really is this ‘’change’’ that continues to be mouthed all about? If Buhari is the epitome of all that is incorruptible, how come he is comfortable in the gathering of people who personify corruption in its rawest form? The unambiguous answer lies in the words of the great philosopher who once said ‘’show me your friends and l would tell you who you are’’. This characteristic blowing hot and cold is only a manifestation of the political ambivalence of the General towards an issue that we are made to believe he stands against. It therefore seems that while this legend of incorruptibility around Buhari has taken on a mythical dimension, when critically analysed based on current evidence; it is just an escapist sophistry leveraged on by his supporters to cover their ideological emptiness. In the final analysis, it is simply the height of hypocrisy for anyone to say Buhari and the APC represent any semblance of the kind of change Nigerians deserve. I need to be schooled on how Buhari is expected to fight corruption when the very people who are financing him are an embodiment of the very thing. It is becoming clearer that the change mantra is only about the interests of certain individuals as against the generality of Nigerians. Certainly, this variant of change is a Greek gift nicely wrapped in a box of hypocrisy; one that is tempting enough to force a change in the hands that hold the knife slicing off the Nigerian national cake. However, it is one gift that ought to repulse every right thinking Nigerian. As William Hazlitt once surmised, hypocrisy is the only vice that cannot be forgiven. If corruption is defined as a failure of systems, l completely consent that it is a national malaise and its resolution is non-negotiable. However, what l oppose is change for the sake of it ; in this case swapping one corrupt administration with another, without a deliberate attempt to address the fundamental issues that would make a definite difference. If this is the kind of change we clamour for and deserve, I’d leave us to our consciences. Let that be the judge. Read more: www.theheraldng.com/voting- buhari-represent-change/

Apparently, it seems the Award Winning Pop-star will be starting the new year on a rough note as he will reportedly appear in court on January 25, 2015. A court order has already been signed by a Lagos State Chief Judge which will be placed on the walls of Dbanj’s Lekki home. The pop star is being dragged to court over alleged debt. According to reports which are unclear, The pop star is in a debt mess with Henry Ojogho, Vice-Chairman of Broron Group who allegedly loaned Dbanj the sum of N60m in which he is yet to pay back, neither has he made any attempt to pay back despite signing an understatement. Dbanj is currently in Nigeria after a 3 month stay in the U.S and he’s yet to make any comment on this issue. Nigeria’s high speed rail project initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan has been rated among the global top 100 world- class infrastructure projects by KPMG. The rail will connect Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Warri, Bauchi, Abuja, and Port Harcourt and will cost the country $13 billion, much of which will be financed with a loan from the Export Import Bank of China. The China Railway Construction Corporation has secured the contract to build the 3,218- kilometre network, which will be digitally operated using fibre-optic cables, radio communication and wireless services. The project is designed to cover 54 stations and will take 25 years to build. In the report, The Infrastructure 100: World Markets Report, the KPMG panel of judges said the project “will remove heavy freight from Nigeria’s stressed roads, could save the country millions on road maintenance”. Other African projects on the list are: Khi Solar One (South Africa), Square Kilometer Array (South Africa), PRASA Rolling Stock (South Africa), Kudu Gas Field and CCGT Project (Namibia),Trans-Saharan Natural Gas Project (Nigeria to Algeria), Mombasa-Kigali Railway (Rwanda), KivuWatt (Rwanda), Jinja Bridge (Uganda), and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Terminal (Kenya). In its note, KPMG said the report highlights key trends driving infrastructure investment around the world. A global panel of industry experts identifies 100 of the world’s most innovative, impactful infrastructure projects showing how governments are coming together with the private sector to overcome funding constraints to finance and build projects that can improve quality of life – both solving immediate needs and planning for future societal demands. The report looks at infrastructure based on the dynamics of four key markets: Mature International Markets (like Canada, Australia, and UK), Economic Powerhouses (including the US and BRIC countries), Smaller Established Markets (like Chile, Sweden, New Zealand, Korea and South Africa), and Emerging Markets (including a number of economies in Africa). A former minister of Aviation, Femi-Fani Kayode has described the emergence of Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd.) as the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as laughable. FFK, as he’s famously known, in a Facebook post shortly after Buhari was declared winner of the APC primaries, openly kicked against the election of the former warlord, who he said, did not want the progress of the nation, Nigeria. His message reads thus: “Major General Mohammadu Buhari has emerged as the APC flagbearer and President Goodluck Jonathan has emerged for the PDP. Now the battle for the soul and future of our nation begins. The forces of light shall surely prevail over the forces of darkness and God’s counsel alone shall stand over Nigeria. I stand with Jonathan. Let’s get it on. ”Jihadi groups killed more than 5,000 people last month, with Iraq topping the league table of deaths, followed by Nigeria, Afghanistan and Syria. “In 664 incidents recorded in November by the BBC World Service and researched jointly with King’s College London, the overall death toll was 5,042, or an average of 168 deaths per day and nearly twice the number of people who were killed in the 11 September 2001 attacks on America. “After Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Syria, Yemen was fifth in the deadly league table, tying with Somalia, with 37 incidents each”- DORO ADEBENTLEY 11 December, Facebook. “All these and some people still say they want Buhari as President? A man who said, only last year, that ”an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north”? A man who said, in 2001, that he wants to ”spread sharia throughout the federation”? A man who said, in 2001, that Muslims should only vote for Muslims”? A man who said, in 2001, that ”why should Christians be concerned when Muslims cut off their limbs under sharia”? A man who said, in 2001, that ”after all the limbs that are being cut off are Muslim ones and not Christians, so why should the Christians bother about it”? “This is the man that some Nigerians are clamouring for to be their President? May God open their eyes and protect them from themselves. May He grant them wisdom and discernment”. Source: http://dailypost.ng/2014/12/12/stand-jonathan-buhari-can-never-rule-nigeria-fani-kayode/ |
"I spent all my fruitful years boxing; I never looked at girls.". If I hear... Anyways the government should try and come to his aid...he's living in abject poverty |
Nigeria is a unique place in the World by all standards. It is a place where anything is possible. It is a place so naturally endowed with abundant natural and human resources that we have practically all ‘brands’ of human beings; some exemplary in conduct, while some are only masters in pointing accusing fingers but quite hypocritical in real life. While it is normal to have these classifications in a normal habitation, what is, however, worrisome is that we presently have a situation where an individual who had eight years to lead by example and failed woefully, is now working tirelessly to unsettle his Successors who are working hard to fix the mess he created. What an irony! In 1999 after nearly two decades of military rule, Nigeria was ushered into the fourth attempt at democratic rule. The beneficiary of this new dispensation was Olusegun Obasanjo. Many People heaved a sigh of relief that the ex-General, who had just come out of Prison, was going to replicate Mandela in Nigeria. Most people thought because he had undergone the Prison experience just like Mandela, he would lead like a statesman devoid of bitterness, pettiness and rancor. How wrong we were! Instead of replicating Mandela, he rather attempted unsuccessfully to replicate Mugabe. He had the opportunity to be like Mandela but blew it on the altar of hypocrisy. It is against this background that I find his vituperations quite disturbing. How can one be preaching a gospel he never practised when he had the opportunity? What good governance did he practice while in office? What are his legacies? Hypocrisy simply means preaching what you don’t or never practiced. Mr. Obasanjo should examine his face in the mirror before he points his fingers at others. It is indisputable that Nigeria is passing through a difficult and challenging time. It is a well known fact that we are undergoing series of security challenges. It therefore demands that Leaders be statesmanlike in comments and actions. The current ranting of OBJ totally falls below the standard expected of a former President. His motives are quite questionable. Could it be the usual cry of a godfather who has been dumped by his anointed Son? Could it be patriotism? This is most unlikely! In one of his usual ranting, he even accused the entire National Assembly of being corrupt. Although it is true that corruption is endemic in our Society, it does not, however, justify labeling the entire institution of Parliament as corrupt. During his time everyone witnessed his type of ‘transparency.’ Everyone saw the desperate attempt made to remove Hon Ghali Umar Na’Abba from his position. It was, indeed, a national embarrassment when members of the Federal House of Representatives displayed the lorry load of money offered them to impeach the then Speaker Na’Abba. So did he just realize today that the National Assembly was corrupt? Did he not contribute to the problem in the National Assembly today? He actually planted the seed of this problem when he in 1999, prevented the popular candidate Okadigbo from emerging as the Leader of the National Assembly, and installed Enwerem as the Senate President. That was the root of the crisis in the National Assembly which set the tone for future executive interferences. He had the worst relationship with the Legislature in our history, and had a cat and mouse relationship with his Vice President. He is certainly not a democrat and, therefore, has no moral compass to navigate in the territory of transparency. The fact he continues to pour his venomous ranting unchallenged is attributable to the fact we have a President who is the very opposite of him, especially in terms of tolerance and liberality. Baba Iyabo would definitely not tolerate such ranting from a former head of state had he been the President. He should thank his stars that President Jonathan is generally calm and liberal, and not a vindictive person like him. If the truth must be told, suffice it to say that the foundation of over 90% of the present mess we have was rooted in the Obasanjo administration. Let us examine just a few of them just for illustrations. The issue of sharia and the security challenges it created. Obasanjo never addressed this volatile issue for fear of being labeled a bigot. He conveniently ignored the threats and openly boasted everywhere that Sharia would die a natural death. His approach was too lackadaisical for a President. Today he is still alive to see the consequences of his negligence of duty. Secondly his ill fated attempt to perpetuate himself in power which is commonly known as the third term gambit. This inordinate ambition to remain in power beyond the Constitutionally enshrined 8 years led to a desperate attempt to amend the Constitution and compromise our democratic institutions. It was alleged that billions of tax payers’ money was wasted in this abortive attempt. Although he has always denied this, his daughter Iyabo has however corroborated this well known fact that indeed he harbored this illicit ambition to do a ‘MUGABE’ and desperately attempted but failed to actualize this. The greatest injustice Mr. Obasanjo did to Nigeria was the alleged imposition of a sick Yar’Adua on Nigeria. Having failed to actualise his 3rd term gambit, Yar’Adua was the last joker he played. Although he denied ever knowing that Yar’Adua was terminally sick, many analysts continue to allege that he indeed knew of Yar’Adua health problems and merely tried to use him to achieve the third term through the back door. His daughter Iyabo has also buttressed the story that he indeed knew about the health conditions of Yar’Adua. The demise of Yar’Adua generated so much tension and led to a chain of reactions which are not yet resolved till date. What about his crude approach to Law enforcement? Can anyone forget how he ordered the military action in ODI which led to the massacre of an entire town? What about Zaki Biam? The list is endless. Under his regime, politically motivated assassinations were the order of the day. Till today nobody knows who killed Bola Ige, who killed Marshall Harry, who killed Dikibo, Okadigbo and so forth. I still remember the case of Anambra State in 2004 where a sitting governor was abducted by touts loyal to him allegedly with his connivance. I don’t want the reader to be bored regarding elections held under his watch. The fact that he described an election as a do or die affair sums it up. Political opponents had no space to operate. Elections held under his supervision could shame a banana republic. What is the point being made? The message I am sending across is that Nigeria has many problems which most of them were inherited from Obasanjo’s administration. The least he can do is to support and send his views across to the current President. All this ranting only exposes his hypocrisy. He had the opportunity to fix Nigeria for over eleven years. Did he build roads and bridges that have been closed by Jonathan? How can one be shamelessly preaching a gospel that is strange to him? Can someone tell baba Iyabo he has no moral justification to question this administration. If he had followed the example of Mandela Nigeria would have been different. He contributed greatly to the present mess. Each time he throws a dart at the present administration, I always expect him to make a comparative analysis but he doesn’t. I would love him to highlight his achievements for the eight years he was in charge. Leaders who accomplished while in office won’t need to be shouting for relevance when they leave office. Their records of achievements and accomplishments would always speak for them. But when there are no achievements to celebrate, it would be better to maintain a dignified silence. The recent autobiography he launched even without exercising patience to thrash out all legal impediments, in my opinion is the final self inflicted nail on his already battered reputation. The claims are simply idiotic. He sought to make a hero out of himself and tried to discredit others. The most laughable claim is the suggestion that the Presidency influenced his daughter Iyabo to write the open letter against him last December. If, indeed, the Presidency could influence his biological daughter, a former senator for that matter, to write against him, then it means that he has failed as a man. Iyabo going by her antecedents is a fully grown lady who speaks her mind without minding whose ox is gored. Charity begins at home. If a man cannot practise integrity in his own household, he has no basis to preach same to others. He is simply a family certified hypocrite. I do hope he doesn’t push Iyabo to publish the second volume of the open letter. Baba Iyabo should bury his head in shame. He needs to practise integrity before he can preach it. This book has finally exposed the scale of hypocrisy in OBJ. Nigerians can read between the lines and see the mischief that underpins his story. The timing is also questionable. One doesn’t have to be a genius so see that the publication of this book is linked to his latest role of a Navigator for the 2015 Elections. In the Yoruba pre-colonial political system, when a king is presented with an empty calabash by the senior chiefs, the King would be left with two options, either to commit suicide or go away on exile. I have read the open letter Iyabo wrote to her Dad Mr. Obasanjo a couple of times. That letter amounts to an open presentation of calabash by Iyabo to her dad. As a Christian I won’t advise Mr. Obasanjo to commit suicide. I would rather advise Mr. Obasanjo to either go on a dignified ‘exile’ of silence or assume his recent job of a navigator officially. That way each time he speaks it would be clear and evident to all that he is doing so as the navigator, not as a statesman. God bless Nigeria….
