Innovation or desperation? APC gubernatorial aspirant takes political campaign to the body of N100 MTN recharge cards.
There was pandemonium in Lagos recently when people woke up to the logo of APC on some MTN recharge cards across the state. . . They initially thought the cards were to be given out for free until they realized that it was a particular gubernatorial aspirant, Akinwumi Ambode, that bought the advert space from a third-party company producing the card..... People are beginning to speculate that we might soon wake up one day to see the campaign adverts of PDP on the bodies of Naira notes to
counter ds move by APC..lol

PoliticsRe: Why Tinubu Dumped Buhari For Tambuwal by chesterlee(op): 10:20am On Nov 15, 2014
TINUBU is a master of politics. He knew from the start that BUHARI will be dropped but used his popularity in the North for APC Building.
PoliticsWhy Tinubu Dumped Buhari For Tambuwal by chesterlee(op): 9:44am On Nov 15, 2014
Team Tinubu, the camp of the national leader of the
All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,
was compelled by some former Nigerian leaders and
Northern Islamic leaders to drop its support for the
2015 presidential aspiration of Gen. Muhammadu
Buhari.
Reflective of the pressure which also came from some
close associates of Asiwaju Tinubu, the political group
has switched support towards the presidential
aspiration of Speaker Aminu Tambuwal who with his
entry this week, immediately turned into a major
contender for the ticket.
He has Buhari and former Vice-President Atiku
Abubakar as the main challengers for the party’s
presidential ticket with Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso
of Kano State and newspaper publisher, Sam Nda-
Isaiah also contending.
Several other factors were taken into consideration by
the Tinubu camp in switching support, close
associates of the political leader disclosed to Saturday
Vanguard. Among the other factors was the alleged
overbearing influence of some close associates of
Gen. Buhari, who they claimed were likely to fence out
other political stakeholders in a possible Buhari
presidency.
Three former heads of state, two from the north and
one from the south and a very influential retired army
chief from the northeast who has also held political
appointments in the present dispensation were
among those cited by sources as having prevailed on
the Tinubu camp to drop support for Buhari.
The decision of the Tinubu camp to drop support for
Buhari, it was learnt, also followed reservations from
some sections of the north notably, some Islamic
leaders.
“It is not that we dumped Buhari, the Islamic clerics,
the imams and the political leaders in the north
particularly three former heads of state said that they
don’t want the man,” the source said.
President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former military
president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida met penultimate
Tuesday following the latter’s return from a medical
trip abroad. The two men met for 30 minutes behind
closed doors.
However, Gen Baban-gida had in the past been
publicly quoted as urging Speaker Tambuwal to aspire
for a higher office. Speaking at the presentation of the
Vanguard Personality of the Year award to Governor
Chibuke Amaechi of Rivers State in Lagos on April 6,
2013, the former military president said:
“When leaders like Tambuwal delivered on their
electoral promise, we advise them to try something
higher. For Tambuwal, your guess is as good as mine.
Well done.” Babangida’s remark was applauded. .
The influence of some present and past minders of
Gen. Buhari was also another reason taken into
consideration, a source disclosed.
“There is this perception about Buhari that he is
surrounding himself with some people like Nasir El-
Rufai, Buba Galadima, Sule Hamman” the source said,
reawakening complaints about the overbearing
attitude of Buhari’s now dissolved political machine,
The Buhari Organisation, TBO which had in the past
been accused of selectively fencing out people.
The Tinubu associates also feared that the perceptions
of religious extremism which the ruling party, Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP had sought to tag on Buhari
could deny the party votes in the South were he to
emerge as candidate.
Though many of the Tinubu associates do not regard
him as an extremist, but the perception already
created, it was learned, could be injurious to their
political outing. There were also concerns that Buhari
could be detached from responsibility and reference
was made to his past roles as head of state and
chairman of the Petroleum (Special) Task Force, PTF
where his subordinates usurped authority in his
name.
“When he was head of state most of the power was
delegated to Idiagbon and when he was at PTF, it was
another person, that took charge and that if APC says
they are looking for change that Tambuwal represents
that change,” an associate of Tinubu revealed.
Another factor that was taken into consideration
which was projected by some associates of the APC
national leader, Saturday Vanguard learned was the
prospect of Buhari turning on Tinubu and others once
he is invested with power.
“There are also fears in Asuwaju’s camp that the man
may destroy Asiwaju and may come back to hurt him
and some of Asiwaju’s loyalists warned him,” the
source revealed.
The matter of General Buhari’s age also came into
consideration in the final consideration to drop
support for the former head of state as it was
reasoned that 70 to 80% of voters fall between the age
of 18 to 40+ and most of them don’t know Buhari.
Political associates were also disturbed that inputs
made by party leaders into the general’s speech at his
declaration at the Eagle Square last month were
discarded raising apprehension that the general in
office could reject advice. Some were also understood
to have raised the fact that the former head of state
also did not have enough money for the race ahead.

PoliticsAPC : Jonathan's Declaration Speech Was Empty by chesterlee(op): 8:01pm On Nov 13, 2014
The National Chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has
condemned President Jonathan’s declaration
speech as empty and full of Voodoo statistics.
The APC boss said since the president has
abandoned Nigerians, he cannot lay claim to a re-
election ticket.
He urged Nigerians not allow the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP to finish off the country by
giving it another four year, adding that APC will
rebuild Nigeria and reclaim all seized territories
from Boko Haram insurgents, if given the chance
by the electorates.
Oyegun, who spoke today at a news conference in
Abuja, said his party will make history soon by
defeating the ruling party.
He said APC’s focus will be on Uniting Nigerians,
openness and transparency, upholding the Rule of
Law, defence of the territorial integrity of the
nation, motivate and equip the Armed Forces, true
federalism, rebuilding and expanding
infrastructure and investment in human capital,
among others.
He said: “The 2015 election will be decided on the
character and leadership qualities of the Nigerian
President. The Commander-in-Chief should also be
“Consoler-in-Chief” bringing comfort and succour
to our people in time of grief and distress.
“You heard two days ago President Jonathan saying
that good leaders do not walk away from the
people, sadly though the statement is true, our
President who wants another four years does not
show evidence of sympathy for hundreds of
thousands of our fellow citizens who are now
Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) as a result of the
occupation of their land by Boko Haram.
“He brings no relief or comfort to those living
under the reign of terror. About 50 young Nigerian
school children were killed and several others
injured in Potiskum just a few days before the
extravaganza show of his declaration.
“Yet we do not hear of a Presidential visit to the
families of the victims, a pattern that has become
usual. Our President lives in his comfort zone,
content to utter words, and ‘minutes of silence’ that
have no meaning to the victims.
“The President has abandoned the Nigerian people. We should end the journey with President Goodluck
Jonathan in 2015 and elect a leader who will be part of our lives and lead with courage and empathy.”

GeJ til 2019!!!
PoliticsThirty Achievements Of Goodluck Jonathan Administration by chesterlee(op): 11:45am On Nov 12, 2014
The Goodluck Jonathan administration has been “silently transforming Nigeria from its dark ages of underdevelopment to a 21st century economic and political force,” Mr. Nnawetanma writes.

Mr. Nnawetanma has completed a list of implementations of the Goodluck Jonathan administration he considers to be a progress.

1. Promotion and practice of true democracy by creating an enabling environment where people from diverse backgrounds and with divergent views and opinions can be accommodated. Under the watch of Goodluck Jonathan administration, the APC was registered by INEC as a mega opposition party big enough to challenge the PDP at both state and national levels. This would have been unthinkable some years back.

2. Conduct of free and fair elections in the country, including the 2011 poll which was adjudged to be the most credible election of its magnitude that has ever been conducted in the country, though it was not without its flaws. Unlike in other administrations, the Goodluck Jonathan administration has given a free hand to the country’s electoral umpire, INEC, to perform its statutory duties.

3. Relative non-interference with electoral and judicial matters. This is evident in the number of governorship elections that have been won both at the polls and in the court by opposition parties in Anambra, Imo, Osun states, among others.

4. Liberalization of the press and guaranteeing the freedom of speech in a country where the stifling of the press and suppression of the citizens’ right to freedom of speech used to be the norm, a legacy of over 30 years of military rule. The existence of vocal anti-government media houses and critics would have culminated in some high-profile assassinations some years back, but today citizens are free to air their views whenever and wherever they like just like any other sane country.

5. Opening up of Nigeria to the global business community and becoming Africa’s number one destination of foreign investors. In the first six months of 2014, a total of US$9.70 billion or N1.51 trillion flowed into the national economy as foreign direct investments (FDI).

6. Under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Nigeria rebased it’s GDP for the first time in over a decade to become the largest economy in Africa, overtaking South Africa and Egypt in the process.

7. Proceeds from Nigeria’s non-oil exports rose to 2.97 billion by the end of 2013, up from 2.3 billion in 2010.

8. Initiation of the YOUWIN program in 2011. The Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YOUWIN) program aims to generate over 100,000 jobs for innovative unemployed youths across the country in the course of three years. It is currently in its third year.

9. Nigerians are now a step closer to being fully integrated into the international e-commerce community with the approval and reinclusion of Nigeria as one of the Paypal-compliant countries after being banned from using the service at the peak of the advanced fee fraud (419 scams). With Paypal, Nigerians can now pay for goods and services online from anywhere in the world.

10. Goodluck Jonathan administration is the one behind the revival of the dead automotive industry in Nigeria. Global auto giants like Peugeot, Nissan and Hyundai now either assemble or wholly manufacture small cars, Sport Utility Vehicles, trucks and buses at various locations in Nigeria. In addition to that, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM), Nigeria’s flagship indigenous automaker, has begun the sale of their first made-in-Nigeria cars and SUVs in August 2014.

11. Under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Nigeria became the first country in West Africa to host the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2014. It was also the most successful World Economic Forum for Africa (WEFA) in history, boasting of a global reach of 2.1 billion people according to estimates.

12. Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote’s net worth increased from US$2.1 billion at the start of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration to US$23 billion in 2014, making him Forbes’ richest black person in the world and the overall 26th richest in the world. He attributed this mammoth increase in his monetary worth to Goodluck Jonathan administration favourable economic policies.

13. Construction and beautification of many federal roads in the country, including the Lagos-Benin expressway, Abuja-Lokoja expressway, Enugu-Abakiliki expressway, Onitsha-Owerri highway and most parts of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway. Also, construction of the second Niger Bridge between Onitsha and Asaba to relieve the pressure on the old Niger Bridge which was completed in December 1965.

14. Revival of the comatose railway system of transportation in the country is happening under the current Goodluck Jonathan administration.

15. Remodelling, beautification and standardization of airports across the country. In addition to that, aircraft from Nigeria are now allowed to fly directly to the United States of America instead of going through many stopovers in Amsterdam and some other European cities along/in the route. The Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu was upgradede into an international airport, directly connecting the South-East region of the country to the outside world for the first time since independence.

16. Establishment of nine federal universities across the country in states which previously had no federal degree awarding institution.

17. Computerizing education in the country with the introduction of the computer-based test (CBT) which will be mandatory for all UTME candidates from 2015.

18. Introduction of the Almajiri system of education in the academically disadvantaged Northern parts of the country.

19. Arresting the outbreak of the deadly and highly contagious Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in record time, though it unfortunately claimed some lives at the onset.

20. Transformation of the agricultural sector, so that, in the words of Agriculture minister Akinwumi Adesina, “Nigerians will stop thinking of agriculture just as a means of livelihood, but more as a business.”

21. Nigeria has reduced its food imports by over 40% as of 2013, moving the country closer to self sufficiency in agriculture.

22. Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of cassava with an output of over 45 million metric tonnes in 2014 according to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

23. Due to favourable economic policies, Internet penetration in Nigeria has now increased from about 45 million in 2011 to 63 million in 2014, overtaking countries such as the United Kingdom and France in the process. What this means is that more people now use the internet in Nigeria than in the UK and France.

24. As of the second quarter of 2014, the number of registered active telephone lines in Nigeria stood at 130 million out of a total of over 170 million telephone lines.

25. Introduction of the Nigerian electronic identity card (e-ID card), one of the most secure in the world d the largest in Africa. The e-ID card serves as both an international identification module and an electronic payment solution.

26. Introduction of the cashless system which aims to encourage the use of e-payment systems in the country and reduce the volume of physical cash in circulation.

27. Unbundling of the dysfunctional Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) into about 18 profit-driven successor companies.

28. Under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan administration, Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 19 years in South Africa in February, 2013.

29. Nigeria ended up with 11 gold , 11 silver and 14 bronze medals at the recently concluded 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing 8th in the overall ranking.

30. Women in politics have been given more prominent roles in the current President Goodluck Jonathan administration. A large number of the federal appointees of the Goodluck Jonathan administration are women. They include, but are not limited to, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Miriam Aloma Mukhtar, Nigeria’s first female Chief Justice; Diezani Alison-Madueke; ex-aviation minister Stella Oduah, Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s representatives at the United Nations; Sarah Jibril; and Viola Onwuliri.

The list is not complete, Mr. Nnawetanma argues, and may be missing out on some key developments. Could you add any other significant break-throughs performed by the Goodluck Jonathan administration in this or that sector?

Politics2015: Tambuwal Joins APC Presidential Race by chesterlee(op): 8:36am On Nov 11, 2014
There are strong indications that the Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri
Tambuwal will on Monday, November 17, pick
the, All Progressives Congress APC’s expression
of interest and nomination forms to contest for the presidential post.
Tambuwal who recently dumped the Peoples’
Democratic Party, PDP for the APC will pick the
forms at his new party’s national headquarters in
Abuja.
It was gathered by PM News that Tambuwal already
has his colleagues support because of his young age
and they have started trooping into the FCT to give
him moral support.
Speaker Aminu Tambuwal at APC convention.
According to reliable sources, the leaders of APC in
settling for Tambuwal put into consideration the fact
that his integrity will win him the support of
Nigerians in the presidential election and he stands
a better chance over aspirants of other political
parties.
The source said: “The leaders of APC have settled for
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji
Aminu Tambuwal as the party’s presidential
candidate in the 2015 election. Although the decision
is not public yet, there is a consensus of opinion by
our leaders that the Speaker (Tambuwal) be allowed
to fly the flag of the party in the presidential
election.
“In deciding on Tambuwal, his originality and
independence in the handling of the affairs of the
House were taken into consideration. Nigerians are
impressed that Tambuwal shunned entreaties by the
leadership of PDP and the Presidency to make the
House an appendage of the executive arm of
government.
“The Speaker has no doubt endeared himself to a lot
of Nigerians by his sterling leadership qualities and
APC believes that such qualities are required from
any Nigerian aspiring for the highest political office
in the country .”
If Tambuwal joins the presidential race, the number
of aspirants on the platform of the APC will increase
to five as former Head of State, General
Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice President, Alhaji
Atiku Abubakar; Chairman of Leadership
Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah and current Governor
of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are
battling for the same post.
The four others have already picked their
nomination and expression of interest forms from
the APC headquarters.
