Today I have mix feelings - I'm particularly excited about the parcel I received and at the same time sad that I have become a part of the "lost generation". That, I am now one of those Nigerians who become a naturalised citizens of the country they migrated to. Though I have become an Australian citizen for a while, it really hit me so hard when my passport arrived by post today. Yes, it arrived by post. I didn't have to go to immigration office to queue or bribe someone for my passport. In fact, I had to lodge complaint at the Post Office yesterday, questioning the late delivery due to the fact that I paid for a priority processing. The soul of Nigeria must be rescued from the hands of these marauders pillaging our commonwealth. We must fight collectively to see a better Nigeria in our lifetime. . Enough of endless and meaningless vigils and let's start walking the talk. Enough of raising 'sheep' in Nigerian churches and mosques. Let's start raising lions and the mighty men of David. After all, Martin Luther king Jr was a clergy and he led the American Civil Rights Movement. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=532451573997322&id=147301539178996&refid=17&_ft_=mf_story_key.532451573997322%3Atop_level_post_id.532451573997322%3Atl_objid.532451573997322%3Acontent_owner_id_new.147301539178996%3Athrowback_story_fbid.532451573997322%3Apage_id.147301539178996%3Aphoto_attachments_list.%5B532451493997330%2C532451550663991%5D%3Astory_location.4%3Astory_attachment_style.album%3Apage_insights.%7B%22147301539178996%22%3A%7B%22page_id%22%3A147301539178996%2C%22actor_id%22%3A147301539178996%2C%22dm%22%3A%7B%22isShare%22%3A0%2C%22originalPostOwnerID%22%3A0%7D%2C%22psn%22%3A%22EntStatusCreationStory%22%2C%22post_context%22%3A%7B%22object_fbtype%22%3A266%2C%22publish_time%22%3A1570771807%2C%22story_name%22%3A%22EntStatusCreationStory%22%2C%22story_fbid%22%3A%5B532451573997322%5D%7D%2C%22role%22%3A1%2C%22sl%22%3A4%2C%22targets%22%3A%5B%7B%22actor_id%22%3A147301539178996%2C%22page_id%22%3A147301539178996%2C%22post_id%22%3A532451573997322%2C%22role%22%3A1%2C%22share_id%22%3A0%7D%5D%7D%7D%3Athid.147301539178996%3A306061129499414%3A2%3A0%3A1572591599%3A-1987319663359741420&__tn__=%2As-R https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/nigeria-loses-phd-holder-to-australia.html

Mike Olu Akinlabi, PhD finally naturalises and now a full citizen of Australia. He couldn't keep his joy to himself. He disclosed this on his facebook handle: Hmm, I don't even know how to start this. Naturally, I didn't want to say anything about it, but I felt there's a need to vent my frustration with Nigeria. While recuperating at home due to recent sickness, a parcel arrived at my doorstep. This parcel changed everything for me! Before going into full detail, let me backtrack a bit..... . You see, I arrived Australia 10th October 2012 to start a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University after completing an MPhil in Criminological Research at the University of Cambridge. . When I arrived Australia my intention was to complete my studies and then return to Nigeria to contribute my quota to the development of my home country. I didn't want to add to the current brain-drain in Nigeria. I knew I would do better in my home country. I knew I had a lot to add to the Nigerian system. . Well, that seems to change after completing my studies. I presented myself to a few organisations in Nigeria, I was flatly rejected by some and some didn't even get back to me. A few offered lesser roles than the one I had before leaving Nigeria. . During this time, I had personally rejected a couple of job offers in the UK, US and Canada while I was being rejected by my home country. Still, I was hopeful, thinking I would be considered in Nigeria. As in, my heart was burning for Nigeria. . You see, it's important for me to address this issue because I have been challenged in the past that I abandoned my country for "obodo oyinbo" (i.e. the developed West). I know most of my "obodo oyinbo" friends have been challenged in the same manner. When we lend our voices to National discuss, we are often shooed that we should come back to Nigeria. . Those in Nigeria need to understand that some of us want to return home, but do the people back home really want us? Some of us don't really enjoy being cut off from everything we have ever known, but we had no choice but to stay put where we are. Even when we visit, we realised nothing is working - no water, good roads, electricity, basic health services, etc. . Back to my story, so I eventually accepted a job offer in Australia, forgetting about Nigeria. I'm glad I made that decision - best decision ever. United Kingdom and Australia has given me so much that I cannot pay back in my lifetime. I have been blessed and established in Australia more than my home country has ever given me. . Yes! You heard me right!! "Who Nigeria ep sef?" Nigeria has a way of frustrating its own people. It's only in Nigeria that we celebrate mediocrity and familial connections above qualifications and technical-know-how. It's only in Nigeria that we put square pegs in round holes, then expects God to come down from heaven to solve the problem we caused in the first place. The most annoying thing is that our leaders travel out often and they aren't ashamed of their own country when they return home. . We mix up "churchianity" for Christianity, we have the form of godliness but deny the power thereof. It's only in Nigeria that we fast and pray about good governance and then refuse to vote the right candidates into power. We "elect" those who are incapable of governing their personal lives into power and then expect them to serve the people. We put village chiefs into positions of authority and then we expect them to have global mindset. We know our problem and then expects others to solve the problem. . https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/nigeria-loses-phd-holder-to-australia.html

Antico said more than 200 churches had inquired about RIP Medical Debt and 68 churches have raised money to help eliminate medical debt since the organization was founded in 2014. "We really felt that medical debt was something that was inordinately hurting the people that are most vulnerable," Antico said. "The problem is getting worse and worse, and we're just recognizing that we have a way to stop the hardship of this medical debt." Howerton said his church has around 12,000 members across multiple campuses, and he hopes this project inspires members to give back to their communities. "We want our people to do one act of kindness per day for the next 40 days," Howerton said. "So, if you do the math, that's 40 days times 12,000 people and half-a-million needs met. That's the vision we have for this campaign." https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/church-uses-offerings-to-pay-off-26m.html

Pastor Josh Howerton, from Lake Pointe Church, told ABC News on Sept. 24 that the project was part of the church's "Pay It Forward" campaign, which is designed to encourage community members to participate in acts of kindness in celebration of the church's 40th anniversary. "We wanted to celebrate our 40th anniversary by passing forward the generosity that has been given to us, to people in our communities," Howerton said. To mark the milestone anniversary, the church also made contributions to local organizations tackling issues such as human trafficking, homelessness and domestic violence, according to Howerton. The church leaders decided to focus on the issue after looking at statistics showing more than 60 percent of bankruptcies in America could be attributed to medical debt, he said. According to a February 2019 study published in the American Journal of Public Health, medical problems contributed to 66.5% of all bankruptcies in the country. Letters with information regarding the medical debt being eliminated started going out to families in the middle of September, Howerton said. The letter was sent to U.S. military veterans, those who make less than two times the federal poverty level, people for whom 5% percent or more of their annual income goes to paying medical bills and people who have greater medical debt than assets. Howerton said the church collaborated with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt, an organization that uses donations to buy medical debt at pennies on the dollar, and then forgives the debt. RIP Medical Debt helped Lake Pointe Church identify the recipients. "One of the great things the organization does is that it works with the people who hold those debts to be able to negotiate down the payoffs," Howerton said. "So we were able to eliminate $2.6 million of medical debt for around $27,000." Craig Antico, co-founder and chief operating officer of RIP Medical Debt, told ABC News on Thursday that the collaboration with the church began in May 2019, when the church first reached out to the organization about the project. https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-church-donations-pay-off-26m-medical-debt/story?id=65852497&cid=social_fb_abcn&fbclid=IwAR1tTiqltCrl69r_1QiQTHMFkiA-SlnNwCtF26gKN3_qnnlebJBGKk14oBg https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/church-uses-offerings-to-pay-off-26m.html |

To Hon. Barr. (Evang.) Princess Pat. A. Ajudua, it is a crime to bring the attention of the government to the dilapidated state of infrastructure and the need to maintain or build new ones without the fear of losing your job as this is considered as exposing the lapses of the government. This action has led to the sack of her media aide, following a post he made on the social media drawing the attention of the Delta State government to the dilapidated state of Ibusa Girls Grammar School located in Umueze/Okponta, Ibusa and the need for urgent repairs. The media aide who posted a video on Facebook of female secondary school students receiving lectures in a classroom while been drenched by the rain. Shockingly, the lawmaker who represents Oshimili North LGA in the Delta State House of Assembly and also an evangelist who is said to run a church in Asaba and Ibusa, showing no iota of remorse for the inhumane condition in which the students receive lectures, immediately summoned the media aide to her office and lashed out on him, after which she relieved him of his duty describing her actions as “exposing the lapses of the government”. “I was at the House of Assembly complex to see Princess and she began to vibrate as to why I would make such post. I even told her that the post wasn’t against her but that didn’t go down well with her. She said I was exposing the lapses of the state government” the media aide lamented. It was gathered that the school which is under the constituency represented by the lawmaker who has spent over twelve years in the State’s House of Assembly with nothing to show for it, could be likened to a poultry farm with overgrown weed and buildings looking like they have been in existence for more than five decades begging for immediate rehabilitation. https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/delta-state-government-sacks-media-aide.html

Smoking is banned in parts of Melbourne under new council regulations that came into force today Friday 4th of October 2019, with rule-breakers facing hefty fines. Popular shopping strip Bourke Street Mall and a segment of Bourke Street, between Elizabeth Street and Russell Place, became smoke-free from Friday. People caught taking a drag in a no-smoking area can be fined $100. City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said smoking took a terrible toll on the community and the ban would let the 60,000 daily mall users breathe easier. 'Every year about 4000 Victorians die from smoking-related illnesses, and it affects the health and wellbeing of thousands more,' she said. 'There is no safe level of exposure to smoking.' Quit Victoria director Sarah White expects the ban to be adopted by other councils. 'Quitting can be hard for some, and not having the smell of cigarette smoke and the sight of people smoking around can really help people trying to quit to stay on track,' Dr White said. Councillor Beverley Pinder wants the ban to go even further and force smokers to butt out across the entire CBD. President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration will take firm action against hate speech on social media. Buhari said this in his Independence Day broadcast to the nation. Acknowledging the rights of the people to freedom of expression, the president said the right if individuals must not be allowed on the rights of others. “Our attention is increasingly being focused on cyber-crimes and the abuse of technology through hate speech and other divisive material being propagated on social media,” he said. “Whilst we uphold the Constitutional rights of our people to freedom of expression and association, where the purported exercise of these rights infringes on the rights of other citizens or threatens to undermine our National Security, we will take firm and decisive action.” The president also promised Nigerians that the problem of epileptic electricity supply would soon be over, highlighting the steps that his administration is taking to address the challenge. “I remain confident that Nigerians will have affordable and uninterrupted electricity supply in the not too distant future,” he said. “Our efforts to improve the power sector will complement other infrastructure investments projects under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund, which is investing in the Mambilla Power Plant project, as well as key economic road infrastructure such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Second Niger Bridge and Abuja-Kano Expressway. The first set of these projects remain on track to be completed by 2022.” The president said the executive had renewed its relationship with the legislature, adding that this would have a positive effect on his government. https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/buhari-to-tackle-hate-speech-on-social.html

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has revealed that after 19 years in office as a military and democratic leader, he and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings left office without a dollar in account. He claimed that contrary to what was being speculated he owned a Swiss account in which several millions of dollars were stashed in, it was only after his exit from power on January 7, 2001 that he open a foreign account. Speaking at the National Cadres conference for the middle belt held at Kumasi in the Ashanti region which was under the theme: “Effective mobilisation and organization” for victory 2020: The role of cadres” How many of you would be believe that after 19 years in office, My wife and I we leave office we did not have one dollar in any foreign or local account. In the first place we didn’t own a foreign account then. We only did after we left office” John Rawling revealed that but for the intervention of a respected figure the late Kofi Annan who ‘forced’ him to open a foreign bank account, he had never owned any bank account outside the shores of Ghana. “My wife and I opened a foreign account at the urging of former United Nations General Secretary, Kofi Annan. He told me he will need me to help in the UN anti AIDS campaign and once in while the UN will pay me some allowance.” He said. “My wife and I were in office for nineteen years, by the time we were leaving office, we did not have even one dollar foreign account”, he reiterated. He further revealed that the foreign bank account was no longer functional following the closure of the program for which it was opened. “The campaign has ended long ago and that account has been closed. I don’t have any hidden foreign account and she (his wife) does not’’. Source: mynewsgh.com https://ebeanonews..com/2019/10/i-left-office-cashless-says-jerry.html |

A majority of the House of Representatives now supports the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump for high crimes against his country. Politico reported , “A majority of the House now backs impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, a significant milestone as Democrats move rapidly on an impeachment inquiry. As of Wednesday night, 218 lawmakers have indicated support for impeachment proceedings — 217 Democrats and independent Rep. Justin Amash.” Once Speaker Pelosi announced the formal impeachment inquiry, getting a House majority to support it was a done deal. Pelosi is showing how a House can be run when it has a clear and strong leader, which is something that Republicans in the House and the White House know nothing about. The Ukraine scandal opened the floodgates because it revealed that Donald Trump remains a danger to national security. Trump wasn’t happy with one presidential election. He was going to jeopardize both national and election security to win a second term. Trump has no hope of surviving an impeachment vote in the House. Fear is the only thing stopping a majority of Senate Republicans from supporting the president’s removal from office. When vote on articles of impeachment arrives in the House, the outcome is already known. Donald Trump will be the third president in US history to have been impeached.
