Athletic 72-year-old works out bare-chested – even as temperatures plummet Winter has arrived in China, but while most people are rushing to put on their down jackets, a grey-haired old man in Chengdu city is ignoring the chill to continue his daily exercise routine – wearing just a pair of shorts. The 72-year-old muscular grandpa, Zheng Xinglu, used to be a soldier and has been exercising all-year-round since retirement 12 years ago. His vivacity and impressive frame have attracted not only admiring looks from passersby, but also the respect by the netizens. “I’m 27 but I’m not as athletic as a 72-year-old,” said @Andyyouren on Weibo. “It’s great to live a life in this way when getting old,” commented @carmonzhiqinggege. An ancient Chinese proverb - “train either in Sanfu Days (the hottest periods in summer) or Sanjiu Days (the coldest periods in winter)” - means no matter how adverse weather conditions are, one must persist in painstaking physical exercise. And Zheng, who seems to have taken the proverb to heart, must be one of the oldest practitioners to continue to live by it. “Exercising regularly, eating healthy whole grains and eating multiple small meals rather than three larger ones might be considered some factors to keep fit,” said Zheng. “But I believe to keep yourself joyful the most important thing is to exercise every day.”

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker clashed innocuously after 37 minutes with a defender for Akhisar Belediyespor in his side’s 3-1 victory. Van Persie had already put the Turkish giants 1-0 up against Akhisar Belediyespor after 26 minutes, but was then taken off 13 minutes later on a stretcher with a bandage over a bloodied left eye. Reports from Turkey say that surgery will be required on the striker, with fans fearing he may not be able to see out of his left eye having been taken to hospital – although the prognosis appears promising. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, images flooded social media showing Van Persie being carried off the field at the Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium with a bloodied face. Live footage was shown of RVP being taken outside of the stadium to an ambulance that apparently took 15 minutes to arrive. But Fenerbahce doctor Burak Kunduracıoğl seemed to quash fears, saying in a statement: "He was blown in his position, torn in his eyelid and bleeding. After the first intervention, we sent an ophthalmologist to the hospital to intervene.

When North Korea’s football team returned home from the 2010 World Cup, the country was NOT pleased to see them. They’d lost all three matches, one of which saw them get smashed 7-0 by Portugal – and a six-hour public enquiry was held to see what went wrong. They were accused of “betraying” Kim Jong-un, then heir-apparent to Kim Jong-il but now the country’s leader, with their terrible football. The players were grilled in a brutal fashion, and reportedly coerced into putting all the blame on to the team’s manager, Kim Jong-hun. And the fact that the coach was a near-namesake of the country’s most powerful man didn’t save him: he was stripped of his job and sent off to become a builder instead according to a report in the Telegraph. Why do we mention this? Simply because despite the treatment that the 2010 World Cup team received, we hope North Korea’s Under-16 goalkeeper Jang Paek Ho won’t be hung out to dry for the atrocious blunder you see at the top of this page. He is just a kid after all. The lucky beneficiary of the slip, incidentally, was Uzbekistan goalkeeper Jasurbek Umrazkov, whose goal broke the stalemate in what became a 3-1 win for his team. All is not lost for North Korea, however: they are still in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Here’s hoping that Jang gets another chance to save his team. The huge reptile, which weighs in at at a whopping 63 stone, was discovered by the workers after they carried out a controlled explosion in the Cave of Altamira in the northern state of Para. Construction workers in Brazil found a 33feet long anaconda. The beast was discovered while they were carrying out a controlled explosion. Video footage taken by one of the crew pans down the snake's enormous body - which measures one metre in diameter. After making the frightening discovery, the workers chained the animal to a crane and later lifted it up to reveal its yellow spotted under belly - a move which was criticised in the comments when the clip was uploaded to YouTube. Some have criticised the workers for chaining up the massive reptile. Others say it may have died in the explosion having been hit by falling debris Another said: "Human be like 'oh look a giant rare snake and it maybe the last species on this earth, so lets kill it and show it to the world'." The Guinness World Record for the longest snake in captivity is currently held by Medusa, a snake in Kansas City, US, which measures 25 feet 2in long. Source: The Sun, UK.
