Athletic 72-year-old works out bare-chested – even as temperatures plummet
Winter has arrived in China, but while most people are rushing to put on their down jackets, a grey-haired old man in Chengdu city is ignoring the chill to continue his daily exercise routine – wearing just a pair of shorts.
The 72-year-old muscular grandpa, Zheng Xinglu, used to be a soldier and has been exercising all-year-round since retirement 12 years ago.
His vivacity and impressive frame have attracted not only admiring looks from passersby, but also the respect by the netizens.
“I’m 27 but I’m not as athletic as a 72-year-old,” said @Andyyouren on Weibo.
“It’s great to live a life in this way when getting old,” commented @carmonzhiqinggege.
An ancient Chinese proverb - “train either in Sanfu Days (the hottest periods in summer) or Sanjiu Days (the coldest periods in winter)” - means no matter how adverse weather conditions are, one must persist in painstaking physical exercise.
