The Edo State Police Command has paraded a 47-year-old alleged Deeper Life Pastor, Eze Fidelis, who was arrested for having sexual intercourse with two eleven year-old girls.

The baby girl said to be born with a rosary around her neck in Bida, Niger State, on Saturday would not have been born at all as the mother had made several attempts to abort the pregnancy.

28-year-old mother Khadijat Isa said she had tried to abort the pregnancy because she had been having a frosty relationship with her husband for sometime, such that they were even no longer living together. She said she did not take the herbs that would abort the pregnancy because of wickedness but due to her poor financial condition, explaining that as a fashion designer, she was not making enough to cater for her three children as she already has two from the same husband.

“I took medicine and injection in the first month of the pregnancy because I didn’t want the pregnancy but the pregnancy refused to be terminated,” she said. She added that after several attempts to get rid of the pregnancy did not succeed, she resigned to fate and prepared to deliver it. Khadijat said throughout the period of the pregnancy, she did not even once visited hospital for ante-natal care.

She said even when labour finally began, she did not make attempt to go to hospital, instead some elderly women from her compound took her to the house of the retired nurse to deliver. She said: “I did not go for any ante-natal even when labour started. I was only taken to the nurse’s house by the people from my compound after noticing that I was going though pains.

“I don’t have money with me; there was no way that I could go to hospital. You know whenever you go to any hospital, it is the issue of money which I don’t have,” she added. Khadijat also said that the birth of the baby last Saturday was quite different her experience in the delivery of her two other children each of which saw her losing blood from the very beginning to the end of the labour.

“The case of the baby I delivered three days ago is quite different as it was free of blood,” she said. She said another miracle associated with her recent delivery is not only that it was bloodless but that the entire process did not last up to 30 minutes which contrasted to what she went through in her previous deliveries where she had to go through a period of pain that lasted for hours. Khadijat said for the eight years she was married to her husband they had been living peacefully until recently, before the pregnancy.

She said also surprisingly, since the delivery her husband comes regularly to see the new baby and even attend to some of their needs. “The birth of the miracle girl will be source of reconciliation between us,” she enthused. Aha! You can see him, he just came in. He has been coming regularly to see us. That is why I said the baby will be a source of reconciliation.”

On how the baby was delivered, said she could not explained much because she was only told by the nurse that handled the delivery that the baby came out with a rosary, adding that on hearing that the baby was delivered with the prayer beads, she was overwhelmed with happiness, telling herself that the child must have come with full blessing directly from the Almighty.

You can see we went to bed as late 1am last now because people were just coming and out,” she said. The father of the new born baby, Bissalla Zubairu said there was no problem between him and his wife, saying they just had a little misunderstanding which they were about settling when she delivered.

Zubairu said he was shocked when he was told that his wife had given birth to a baby girl with a rosary on her neck, adding that up to the time he was talking with this reporter, he had not recovered from the shock. He said after the delivery they only took the baby to the Estu Nupe’s palace where the baby received royal blessing by his Royal Highness Yahaya Abubakar.

Shasha Abubakar, the retired nurse that handled the delivery of the miracle baby said that: “Seven women came into my house around midnight one among them was pregnant, and was complaining of abdominal an waist pain. He added that on examining her, he discovered that it was a sign of labour.

“In less than 30 minutes the labour began in earnest, and it was when we were about to deliver the baby that a rosary first came out and dropped on the floor. “I took the chasbaha, left the foetus behind and showed the people that she came with this. They then started kalmatul Shahada, ‘Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar’.

“The baby came out clean and no blood. I asked her people to bring clothes for the child and before they would do that the Chasbaha which was black at first, turned to white”. Abubakar said the delivery of the child was normal without any hinderance and that it was one of the faster deliveries he has conducted in his 36 years of service

Confusion enveloped the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday when gunmen invaded the premises, attacking party leaders and journalists, who came for a briefing.

The hoodlums, who fired several gunshots into the air, took control of the secretariat for over an hour.

During the attack, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and member of the party’s Consensus Screening Committee, Mr. Kola Adefemi, had his head broken.

The politician, who our correspondent gathered fainted due to the attack, was later revived at an undisclosed hospital.

The state chairman of Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Rotimi Ojomoyela, and Dayo Oladele, a New Nigeria Newspapers correspondent, among many others also sustained serious injuries during the attack.

The briefing was reportedly organised by some party leaders to announce the suspension of the state PDP chairman, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe, and to reject the constitution of the CSC.

The party’s Deputy Chairman, Mr. Femi Bamisile; Secretary, Dr. Tope Aluko; and the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Oluwawole, were among eminent politicians from the state that had converged on the secretariat before the hoodlums invaded the premises.

Meanwhile, members of the state working committee of the party, including Oluwawole, Women Leader, Mrs. Busola Oyebode; Mr. Femi Ogunleye; Alhaji Lateef Agbaje; Secretary, Tope Aluko, and Treasurer, A.O. Aluko, had signed a statement announcing the rejection of the CSC.

The statement read, “The current situation in the management of the affairs of the party, calls for caution if the party will win the 2014 elections. We, the undersigned, wish to dissociate ourselves from the purported list of the Consensus Screening Committee.”

In a related development, Oluwawole announced the suspension of the party chairman for one month.

He alleged that the party chairman single-handedly constituted the CSC without the approval of the SWC.

He said, “The purported composition of Consensus Screening Committee, headed by our most revered Justice Edward Ojuolape, is nothing but a creation of the chairman, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, without the support of the two-third majority of the state Working Committee.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, who said no one was arrested following the violence, added that policemen were deployed in the secretariat to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The OJB Jezreel fundraising committee has sued an online news website, Aproko247 for N100million over a story published on its platform alleging that some members of the committee ripped the ailing singer off through donations made by kind-hearted Nigerians to save OJB Jezreel.

The website posted the story on Monday, while the committee members called a press conference on Tuesday evening at OJB Jezreel's residence in Surulere, Lagos, where they made the announcement of the N100million lawsuit against the website.

The committee members are aggrieved that such allegations could be made against them, which they termed 'malicious and character assassination'.

Members of the committee sworn to press charges to clear their names of the allegations made by the website.

When contacted on phone on the matter, the Editor-in-Chief of the news website, who simply identified himself as Dapo, said, "we are aware of the rumour that we have been sued for N100million over a story posted on our platform on the OJB Jezreel committee, but we have not received any letter from their lawyers or any court. We are waiting for them. But for now, we take it as a mere rumour until we are officially served."

Eunice, the wife of the first military governor of the former Western Region, Adekunle Fajuyi, is dead.
The 85-year-old died in her sleep at about 6.45 a.m. on Friday at the family house in Okesa area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Her death came 47 years after that of her husband, who was killed during a military coup in 1966.
The deceased’s first and only surviving son, Donald Olufemi, said his late mother would have turned 85 on July 27.


Sympathizers, including the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Modupe Adelabu, and the wife of the governor, Bisi Fayemi, thronged the family home of the deceased to sympathise with them.

The Deputy Governor and Mrs. Fayemi described the late Mrs. Fajuyi as a rare mother and prayed that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

The deceased’s son, while briefing journalists, thanked former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, for his support to the family, especially for rebuilding the old family house in 2009. He equally thanked the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, as well as the Senator representing Ekiti Central, Femi Ojudu, and others for helping the family in various ways. He said the deceased would be missed by the family.

“We had planned to celebrate her 85th birthday with a three-day event from July 27 to 29. This would have given us the opportunity of marking the 47th anniversary of her husband’s death which is on July 29. She showed no sign of sickness except for the normal complaints by old people,” he said.

One of the deceased’s grandchildren, Oluwapelumi, added that the Mrs. Fajuyi did not show signs of illness before her death.

“There was no premonition that she would die. Only yesterday (Thursday), she played with her grandchildren and started mentioning their names one after the other till about 10 p.m. when she was advised to go and sleep and rest.

“Usually, I would go and wake her and ask what she would take for breakfast but this morning, when I got to her room, there was no life in her though her body was warm and I had to call other senior members of the family,” she said.

Members of the family will meet to decide on the burial arrangements.

Meet The First Ever 'Miss Nigeria': Mrs Grace Tinuke Oyelude
Miss Nigeria started as a photo contest in 1957. Contestants posted photographs of themselves to the Daily Times headquarters in Lagos where finalists were shortlisted; those successful were invited to compete in the live final which at the time did not include a swimsuit competition at the Lagos Island Club.


UAC employee Grace Oyelude won the maiden edition of Miss Nigeria, and would later use part of her £200 prize money to travel to England where she studied Nursing.
Contrary to popular belief, Julie Coker was not the first Miss Nigeria – she was Miss Western Nigeria but used the ‘Miss Nigeria’ title during official engagements abroad.
