PULI ALAM, (AFP) – A bomb hidden in a microphone killed an Afghan provincial governor Tuesday as he made a speech at a mosque after Eid prayers in Logar, close to the capital Kabul, officials said.
And in Iraq a bomb ripped through a crowd of worshippers Tuesday as they left a mosque in Iraq after prayers marking the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, killing 11 people, police and a doctor said.



“This morning, governor Arsala Jamal was delivering a speech after Eid prayers when he was killed by a bomb planted in the microphone,” Logar provincial governor spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish told AFP.

“Eight other people have been wounded.”

No group claimed immediate responsibility for the blast, though Taliban militants often target government officials as well as Afghan soldiers and police.

Eid ul Adha is a major public holiday across the Muslim world, with mosques packed with devotees marking the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when God ordered him to.

Sheep and goats are sacrificed in many households and the meat distributed among family, friends and the poor.

Bomb targeting worshippers kills 11 in Iraq
And in Iraq a bomb ripped through a crowd of worshippers Tuesday as they left a mosque in Iraq after prayers marking the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, killing 11 people, police and a doctor said.

The blast near a Sunni mosque in the northern city of Kirkuk also wounded 22 people, the sources said.

An AFP photographer at the scene said bodies, their clothes covered in blood, were placed in the back of a small police pickup truck to be taken away. Bright red blood stained the street.

Angry and grieving worshippers railed against those who carried out the attack, shouting, “God take revenge on those who are evil!”

Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim in Arabic) to sacrifice his son at God’s command, is the biggest Muslim holiday of the year.

Almost nothing is safe from attack by militants in Iraq, where violence has reached a level not seen since 2008 when the country was just emerging from a brutal sectarian conflict.

Secure targets such as prisons have been struck in past months, along with cafes, markets, mosques, football fields as well as weddings and funerals.

The increasing number of attacks on both Sunni and Shiite gatherings have raised fears of a relapse into the intense sectarian bloodshed that killed tens of thousands of people in 2006-2007.

Analysts say the Shiite-led government’s failure to address the grievances of Iraq’s Sunni Arab minority — which complains of being excluded from government jobs and senior posts and of abuses by security forces — has driven the surge in unrest.

Violence worsened sharply after security forces stormed a Sunni anti-government protest camp in northern Iraq on April 23, sparking clashes in which dozens died.

And while the authorities have made some concessions aimed at placating anti-government protesters and Sunnis in general, such as freeing prisoners and raising the salaries of Sunni anti-Al-Qaeda fighters, underlying issues remain unaddressed.

The Iraqi government has enacted new security measures and carried out wide-ranging operations against militants for more than two months, including dozens of executions, but has so far failed to curb the violence.

The latest unrest takes the number of people killed so far this month to more than 310, and to over 5,000 since the beginning of the year, according to AFP figures based on security and medical sources.

In addition to major security problems, the government has failed to provide adequate basic services such as electricity and clean water, and corruption is widespread.

Political squabbling has paralysed the government, while parliament has passed almost no major legislation in years.

It seems its not just the students that are affected by the ASUU strike as protesting traders, under the aegis of National Market Women Association, Monday, stormed the National Assembly, demanding that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, call off its more than three months old strike.
The protesters, who had been at the Ministry of Education and Office of the Head of Service, arrived the Assembly complex at 11.30a.m.


The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani, who led the more than 200 protesting women, said: “We are tired of seeing our children at home. We want our children back in school. Enough of this cheap blackmail.

“We all know what they do with our year-one daughters in the university. We equally know that they sell handouts and handbooks.

“Is this not worse than corruption of the highest order?”

The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani when asked why she did not criticize the Federal Government for failing to reach an agreement with ASUU said: “Which agreement? How do you expect lecturers in state universities to earn same salaries as Federal ones? That is impossible.

“We are not educated, but you do not expect a hotel in my village to cost same price as a hotel in Abuja.

“They are located in different places. So how can a state university lecturer earn same salary with his federal counterpart?

“We are begging them for the last time. If we come out again we may have to chase them out of this country and replace them with so many jobless Nigerians.”

Less than two weeks after a man posted a photo of his dead wife to Facebook and confessed online to killing her, a similar case emerges in Costa Rica.
Police there say a 29-year-old man strangled his girlfriend and sent a photo of her body via What'sApp to her sister, apologizing for what he had done.
He also informed the family of his whereabouts, and police soon arrived, found the body, and arrested him. The IBT quotes local media as saying that the man, identified only by his surname of Macotelo, had copied the earlier incident from Florida.

In that case, newly released police documents reveal that Derek Medina admitted to detectives that he repeatedly shot his wife when she threatened to leave him, then posted the Facebook confession, reports the Miami Herald. The 31-year-old faces first-degree murder charges and will be arraigned later this month. -

The incident happened at 1 Kotodayo in the Iyana-Iyesi area of Ota after Sadiq’s friend, Ibrahim (surname withheld), allegedly raised the alarm declaring that his male organ had disappeared.
According to Ibrahim, who was seen naked before some men, Sadiq had paid him a visit last night and deep into the night, he began to have s*x with him.

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene, Ibrahim’s penis was of normal size, but he was making efforts to make it turgid as a proof that it was fully restored.

Ibrahim, who is also a squatter in the house, alleged that it was the first time Sadiq would be visiting him. Though they have been friends for some time now, Ibrahim said he never knew his friend was gay until last night.

Sadiq, in a confessional statement to local vigilantes at the scene of the incident, said he has been homosexual for the past three years.

He denied snatching his friend’s male organ, but said he had engaged only men in sex since then and further indicted a prophet whose white garment church is within the community as the one who prepared the concoction with which he engages in the act.

However, the prophet, who was invited by the vigilantes, denied the allegation.

He said he had known Sadiq as one who never chased after women and did not know that the man was gay.

Neighbours said that the owner of the one-room apartment where the incident occurred lives and works in Lagos and only visits the place at weekends.

Sadiq was later whisked away by the vigilantes after much plea to stop beating him was rebuffed by the people of the area.

Nigeria is not in support of gay practice no wonder a bill has been approved setting 14-year-jail term for offenders. -

DELTA State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has restated the state government’s commitment to remove all illegal structures defacing the environment in the state just as he promised to build befitting hostels for the College of Education, Warri.
Governor Uduaghan who said this at the weekend during the 19th Convocation Ceremony of the College of Education, Warri, commended the State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Frank Omare for the prompt removal of caravans and other illegal structures in Edjeba where the College is located.

According to him; ''Recently, when I passed through Edjeba, I was not pleased with what I saw and I told the Commissioner to rid the area of the caravans and other illegal structures defacing the environment in the area and as I was coming into the College today, I am very happy with what I saw.”

Dr. Uduaghan who urged owners of caravans and other illegal structures in the state to remove them immediately in their own interest said “the state government will not spare anybody defacing the environment, we will prosecute you if you fail to remove these illegal structures and if we have to remove them on our own, you will be fined by the state government, so do not allow government to remove them for you."

Governor Uduaghan who frowned that students of the College of Education, Warri were living in shanty-like hostels, expressed government’s determination to build befitting hostels for the students before the end of his tenure. He however enjoined the private sector to cooperate with government to achieve this as, according to him “government alone cannot do it”.

"I feel sad that students of this college are living in shanties, human beings should not live in such places because they are breeding ground for armed robbery and prostitution and that is not what we want for our students. Government will build hostels for students and private individuals should also help. My administration will build some hostels for the College of Education, Warri before we leave office and move the students out of these shanty-like hostels," he said.

While stressing the need for quality teacher education in the country, Governor Uduaghan said that; "Teacher education is the key to the success of any educational system and the state government will continue to encourage quality teacher education as part of our human capital development. Whatever we are spending on education in the state is not wasted."

The governor also assured workers in the state who were experiencing difficulties in getting their salaries that they would soon smile as the challenges were being tackled and would soon be resolved.

Mr. Sylvester Ebisine, the Acting Provost of the College, said that the 19th Convocation Ceremony was for the over seven thousand, seven hundred and twenty graduands from the college between 2005-2012. He commended the state government for the massive support to the developmental growth of the college.
