CultureRe: Traditional Marriage Or 'White Wedding'? by chichimma(f): 11:55pm On May 03, 2007
I choose both.

First the traditional and then the court thingy which is referred to as white wedding.

Actually the order does not matter as long as it is ordained by the Almighty God.

I agree with Walelead

Good/ excellent customer service is essential, which leads to good word-of-mouth influence about your business.
If I go to a salon where my hair gets good attention and treatment as well as having a nice hairdresser that you can have chats with. You have a loyal customer in me. In this case, your employees have an impact on keeping your customers and attracting new ones. Especially, when the customers are satisfied with their hairstyles their surroundings will always say: your hair is beautiful and ask where did you do your hair? In which they will refer to your hair salon.

Try to focus on your existing customers and try to fullfill their individual needs, which will lead to long-term relationships. For example, if you have many young customers keep them entertained with current music (videos). Keep your place tidy and friendly!

RomanceRe: How Can Nigerian Men Be More Romantic? by chichimma(f): 1:21am On Apr 12, 2007
grin grin grin grin It goes on, on and on! Funny statements and many are so true, for both Naija gender.
To my opinion the majority of Naija women and men are not romantic! The reasons are all mentioned in this forum.

All I can add is that Romance has nothing much to do with gifts and material things but with the things that are free.

1. A nice walk in the park/ city or beach not necessarily holding hands and kissing every second but just enjoying the walk
2. poetry
3. long talks about everything and nothing
4. complimenting/comforting/ appreciating each other
5. eating from one bowl/plate
6. candle light surprises
7. unique pet names for each other
8. massage treats
9. playful moments on the couch/floor
10. prayerfull & fasting together

The list goes on and on! Like some posters said if your guy or woman is not romantic than you give him/her the lead and see whether they will like it and follow. If not at least you tried and maybe that person is not that compatible. A friend of mine, once asked me why is it that when most Naija women marry they become louzy in taking care of their appearance. That is something that has also to do with romance, if you don't care about looking attractive for your partner because the ring is on the finger already you are not being romantic even if you buy material things or taking care of the house holds.
CareerRe: Getting That C.V. Right by chichimma(f): 1:10am On Mar 29, 2007
Very good article!!! Most of the tips about CVs I knew already however the part that you need to have back up information of experience and skills was new and writing a four-page CV. I guess we often forget that we need to stand out, be unique in everything that we are doing. This is helpfull for people like me that are job hunting. Besides,  my CV needs a new look a professional one.  wink

Yesterday, I spoke with my ex-boyfriend, I think I made a decision on what to do about this situation.
The question here is will I continue or end things ( and hope that we can still remain friends).

May is on its way. I will let you know what is up after I visit him. I can't say anything now because I made a habit in the past to change my mind. So, I am trying to be a 100 percent sure in whatever I decide .I keep you all posted in what is going to happen.

Thanks again for all your comments and advices cheesy
FashionRe: I Want To Be A Hair Stylist by chichimma(f): 4:44pm On Mar 19, 2007
I prefer having my hair done by a man hair stylist than a woman. Several ( so called) female hair stylist have done my hair ( back home and in the Netherlands) and there was always one thing or the other lacking. They are mostly very impatient and do the hair how they like it. I have a male hair stylist ( Ghanaian) that does my hair once in three months like washing, trimming and styling and I love it . He takes his time and does it properly. Whenever, I go to the hair salon most women want him to do their hair than the other  female stylists that are present even if it will take hours to wait.

In addition, he is not gay but happily married.

Go ahead and become a hair stylist you will make a lot of women happy wink especially when you have the skills to make us more pretty grin.

@ Raymand

Do you believe everything you read or watch on television?  I am not saying that it is false what they wrote about him but there is such thing called as propaganda.

Some people loved the former president of Uganda and others hated him and that is a fact!

Whittaker was brilliant, my Ugandan girlfriend said it was just as if she was watching Idi Amin, which she had met.

Constantin:
Do you think that people in Kenya are not Africans? They have a olympic size ice-rink there and it is da´bomb, Ivoirians went skating already in the 70´s on a huge ice-skating rink in Abidjan at that time.
If you compare football or running on tracks it is less popular than ice skate!!! That is why I said I don't think many Africans like ice-skate. (maybe now because of the hype with dancing on ice with stars) However, that does not indicate that they cannot love it! I think it is a good idea as I mentioned in my first response.

How much does it cost? I can tell that their target are wealthy people for this leisure. Watching a movie at Silverbird is very expensive talkless of the ice-skating rink. Rich people back home dey enjoy ooo.

@ Lakers,

Your right I am an adult but the thing with relationships can be so complicating! My heart says one thing and my mind another. I have been thinking about this for months and I still don't know undecided Shall I follow my heart or my mind, Oh God help me cry
TravelRe: Ice Skating In Nigeria: At Silverbird Galleria by chichimma(f): 1:58am On Mar 11, 2007
It is a good idea, however I wonder if it is going to bring any revenue with all the costs that have to be made with Nepa situation. Not many Africans like to (ice) skate, I guess is more a thing of the Western Society. That does not mean that it can't work with the right marketing and promotions it can even become a hype among the wealthy people in Nigeria.

Ice skating is not my thing. I have never tried it. I am more of a rollerskate person. Do they have anything like that in Nigeria: a hall where people can rollerskate while listening music, disco rollerskating? I think something like that will be great for Naija also the expenses are much lesser cheesy

@ all,

Thank you smiley. I have a lot to think about.

I forgot to mention one thing about him during our relationship he could be very violent towards me and had a bad temper if he got upset! However, he says he is a changed man now and never will lift a finger on me again. Although, I cant forget all these things that happened in the past. Sometimes, I wonder how I put up with him but I can see that he is changed. But you know what they say it is not easy to forget. Who knows if that part of him comes up again. I always pictured us growing old together however now the picture is fading. Everything is a blurr now!! Lately, I met guys that want to date with me but I do not feel like I am ready for anything because of what is going on. Further, these guys do not trigger me for one or more reasons. Anyway, I guess it is not wise to start something new when the other chapter is not finished. A school friend told me two days ago to pray over my ex situation because it looks like I am in some kind of bondage and therefore cannot meet the right guy.

LoverBwoy:
hmm what if he dated several other girls

You didn't say if he was with someone
are you happy to go live with him?
@ LoverBwoy, I am sure he did not dated other girls in that period, I don't know of nowadays. As for the calling part he does not want that. We have been doing that sort for the past years. He wants to move on or not at all. I kind of understand that because we have been in the circle that is not leading to anything but more confusion ( at least from my side)
TV/MoviesRe: The Last King Of Scotland- A Must Watch! by chichimma(op): 4:17pm On Mar 08, 2007
Hitler did not kill his wives. You are right but how many thousands of people from all over Europe did he kill? What is going on in the Middle East, Guantanomo Bay,and many more places? Why don't people call those involved cannibalists, beasts and butchers?  I saw this movie through a different set of eyes and saw Idi Amin's characteristics, drives and fears. What I liked from the movie as said earlier is the two sides that were depicted positive and negative. I am surprised that since the story is depicted in a Hollywood conduct. I am happy it reflected these things and not solely focused on the propoganda and British media that was ongoing about Idi Amin. Its a pity that other people only focus on the negative sides of the movie. I think people blindly follow and believe everything that the media shows them, they cannot look beyond things.
RomanceCan It Work After A Four Years Break? by chichimma(op): 3:59pm On Mar 08, 2007
This is not my style to discuss matters about my love life in Nairaland, however, I feel like I am at the end of the road with what to do and I need some feedback that will give me the direction to the right answer.

I managed to put myself in a strange situation after a four-years break up with my ex- boyfriend.
We were six years together off and on planned to get married. It was not the most perfect affair but we loved  each other. My family was/still fond of him. The time we broke up it was a difficult moment for both of us. He had some problems and lives in another country than me. I did not see him for two years but we always stayed in contact by phone or with letters. After some time I decided that we could not go on like that anymore and I broke up with him. I dated someone else for a year and things ended because he felt that my ex was still in the picture.

Two years ago, I visited him where he lives. I was still heartbroken about the guy that broke up with me  because I was still stuck up with him. Anyway to make a long story short my ex accepted that I dated some one in our break and wants us to come back together. That was two years ago, intotal, we are now four years further and he still wants the same. Last year after Christmas, I visited him and he gave me an ultimatum in May.  I don't know what  to do. For the past months I have been thinking to continue with him and the other time I want to move on. I think I will always love him but I am not in love with him. Furthermore, I don't feel that we are on the same wave length.  I always felt that we are better friends than couples.  However, he understands me like no one does,  What shall I do? go for love or friendshiphuh If I a go for him that means that I have to live where he lives soon and practice a long distant relationship for some time.

Let me add that I have until beginning of May with my decision and he said that he will move on with no more looking back if I decide that I don't want to continue. I appreciate any questions, comments, tips and constructive criticism.

@ Uzygirl, What do you want people to say : rest in hate or war huh

Rest in peace, is a normal thing to say when a person dies. By the way, every person on this forum said one way or the other that he was a good novelist with great stories. The praises has been going on and on, which he rightfully deserves! He gave me a lot of reading pleasure but now he is dead but his novels is ongoing and alive.

I pray that his soul will rest in perfect peace.

Yeah, the part where he butchered his wife was discusting and cold! What did u think of the part where they killed the doctor that saved the white doctor of a painful dead.

@ Raymand, there are no parts of Idi Amin crushing people with his bare hands. It could be that he did , if that happened he probably let people do that for him. Furthermore, my Ugandan girlfriend told me that things were exxagerated by the media in so many ways for example with the cannibalism part. Propoganda is clearly depicted in the movie, from the British and Uganda people.

As what I know is that many Uganda people respected and loved him ( from his tribe primarily),while many hated him in Uganda.

Who has watched "The Last King of Scotland"? If you did tell me what you think of the movie if you did not watch it you should because it is an exciting movie that shows many different angles of the ex- president of Uganda, Idi Amin and the country. The president was acted by Forrest Whittaker and he gave a marvelous performance.

I watched the movie with a very good friend of mine from Uganda. She was amazed by his accent and acting skills. The movie depicted several angles of the country , the poor, rich, sick and healthy situations that encounters in Uganda. After all, We felt that the movie did not show only the bad side of the president but also the emotional side of him, which was a good thing. The movie has funny and sad scenes.

Just watch it and give your own opinion wink
HealthRe: Slimming Down by chichimma(f): 1:04am On Feb 13, 2007
I only know about tea, Chinese tea ( Phur-tea, Camila, green te, etc.) has mostly slimming effects on the body.

I would not suggest anyone to get hooked on those pills. I guess the best way is training at least for 30 minutes. Train the parts you want to slim down. ( for example, 40 sit-ups and leg work per two or three days, then do some dancing or excercise you sweat from for 30 minutes) Eat a lot of fruit and green vegetables. Drink at least 1.5 liter water a day, includes the Chinese tea. Then cut down your snacks habit. Do this for six months and you will see results!

Then you keep your body fit and loose weight at the same time.

I hope these tips are helpfull.
HealthRe: ;D by chichimma(f): 12:53am On Feb 13, 2007
The baking soda is a good one, a friend of mine told me the same thing although I have not tried it.

Sea salt is another tip. I do it at least few times in a month. You can try twice a week. If you cannot get your hands on Sea salt just try ordinary salt it is similar you can also use it as a mouth wash.

Further, you should try and flush or toothpick your teeth before brushing in the evening to remove remaining food stuffs in your teeth.

Last but not least, visit your dentist every six months or minimum once a year.

All the best!!! wink

cheesy cheesy grin grin Is this stuff still going on. Oh come on we are in 2007 now.

Eedris should let this go. I was in Naija that time the thing happened and it was a big story.
There was so many heisa about this issue. At that time I could see Eedris point of view based on the reports in several media. He stood up for his right although in a wrong way it was not 50 cent he should have gone after but the organizers that threated him with disrespect. Anyway, he should just let it go too much time he has for 50 cents while the thing has become an old news.
FamilyRe: Would You Marry An Actor Or Actress? by chichimma(f): 3:21am On Feb 12, 2007
LOL, then your doing it for the wrong reasons and then surely it will not work out in the long run.

I think that someone that is in the entertainment scene would understand it better, I am not talking about the same profession it could be something behind the scenes or a writer. I say this because my sister is in the music scene and she dated a guy that was in the medical line. He was constant jealous and possesive, whenever she had a gig he was in her face. Now she is with someone in the same scene and things are almost perfect.

The person that will marry an actor should have a few characteristics like being strong, supportive and understanding whether he or she is in the same field but I guess someone that knows the ins and out can relate better. Especially, if one that marries an actor does not care for all the fame and spotlight and that her man or wife will get all of that!
Music/RadioRe: Classical Music Is Better Than Rap by chichimma(f): 3:07am On Feb 12, 2007
I don't know why I am even responding to this topic but just could not let it after reading the pages.
I will try and keep this short because Orikinla, Grafikdon and others have said it all!

@ Sharetroll, what are you thinking to come up with such a thread without having the right factshuh
I guess you have your shortsightedness and age to blame. There have been many comments that clearly indicates that you cannot compare mangos with bananas. However, you still insist on your view that you can compare the both and that rap requires 0 talent!

For futher references, you should widen your horizon and look futher than your nose it. Don't just judge about things that you hardly have any knowledge about. You hate rap music that is fine ( create a post like I hate rap music) their are many people that feel the same way, but the comparison does not work shocked Especially, since you are oblivious and biased about rap music and love classical music!
BusinessRe: Starting Up A Night Club In Nigeria by chichimma(f): 2:19am On Feb 12, 2007
A good plan cheesy Wake up Abuja with some good night entertainment. Last year, I spend a two weeks over there I like the environment clean and organized as for enjoyment it is too dry. Abuja is the opposite of Lagos, when it comes to enjoyment.

When you are sure of opening a club in Abuja, it is very important to have a good marketing plan and segmentation other than money. So that you can patronize the type of class/style you want the club to have! Give it something unique. I suggest also that you check out the clubs they have in the Big hotels in Abuja as well as Lagos. To come up with some inspiration and ideas how you want or not your club to be! As for your prospect direct competitors improve on their weaknesses and look at their strengths. Your plan might take time and money if you want to make something big and different.

With the right planning, contacts and money, you will get there! Please, don't just think only of the money you will be making, but how to provide good entertainment and enjoyment to the peeps!
FamilyRe: Would You Marry An Actor Or Actress? by chichimma(f): 1:49am On Feb 12, 2007
Actors are humans too, why not. I guess it all depends on self-confidence. I would not mind to marry an actor if we love and respect each other. He is doing his work even if it means romantic scenes, he is acting to be someone else and the scene. It is not real but a profession and if an actor is passionate about good acting ( not just for the money) I will support him all the way. In reality it would not be easy, but if you love someone you will be there for his career.

Also, I think you don't have to be a jealous or envious type and don't mind that he or she will be in the spotlight all the time and you hardly.

I guess someone that is in the music or movie entertainment scene best fit. It does not necessarily mean the same profession but at least a person that understands that world.
