Oludare23: Visa Delayed July 17 2018 at Lagos embassy
Re fired... Got an appointment for August 16, Rescheduling thing happened, interview date was moved to 27th of August and the following went down. I am doing this because I learnt a lot from this forum... from part 11 down to 13 and a bit of 14.
Abuja embassy window 3...
Me: Good morning Ma'am with a big smile
Vo: Good morning, pass me your passport and your I-20, she then asked what school are you going to?
Me: Im going to bowie state university for my masters in computer science, while saying that she was also nodding.
VO: How did you get to know about this school?
Me: It was recommended by my line manager at my former place of work, I also read a couple of online journals as regards my area of specialization and the school kept being mentioned.
VO: So you work at XYZ Consulting firm?
Me: Pronounced it properly for her, then moved on to explain what my job is at the firm. I am an application support specialist plus a consultant
VO: Have you served?
Me: Yes, I served in 2015
VO: What are you going to be doing after this program?
Me: I will be returning to nigeria to continue working at my current place of work, but as a senior IT security specialist, she now asked for a *proof of my return, which i presented*
VO: Who will be sponsoring?
Me: My uncle, went ahead to explain that he is business man, my maternal uncle and how he's being sponsoring since High school plus i will be supporting with some savings from work, she then asked for his bank statement went through it and said she will be holding on to the bank statement and if found fraudulent i will be banned for 10 years and my response was: I can assure there's no issue.
VO: She then asked about my parents, I confidently told her they are doing great and that my mom is also involved with sponsoring this course Then she goes with those words.... I will be approving your visa...you know the rest
Please note that the above does not fully cover all that transpired at the interview but will sure inform one of what to expect and how to go about it.
I will also like to mention that GOD is really important in all this, you need to be confident its okay to stammer but make sure you make your point. Also, you need to use technical terms in your field of study while explaining yourself. I dont know it all but GOD did it... It was only his grace. It is also important to dress simple and neatly... More like a clean shirt and some nice pants.
Finally, thank you to everyone that have taken their time to post one thing or the other as regards School and Visa, GOD bless you all. Congrats bro. Pls which proof of return did you show? Which document, I need to know please |

I wish u luck. I hope u have enough time to say all you planned to say. Reading your transcript I can smell how uptight and nervous u r. Relax, trust yourself and have a conversation with the VO. Trust me they like it that way Thanks for ur corrections. Regarding the issue of denial, what will u suggest I tell the Vo why I was denied when asked? Because the Blue paper always says the same thing in all the denied applicants. ,they will hand a blue paper saying inconsistency & home ties. What do u suggest? Pls drop me ur whassp no, if u don't mind |

MY PROPOSED TRANSCRIPT will be going for interview soon. Please the gurus in the house , read and correct my flaws.
Me--- Good morning sir/ma Vo. Good morning pass me ur passport & I-20 Me ...I did
Vo.....I can see you have been here before, why were u denied? Me.... I don't know because the visa officer didn't tell me specifically why he denied me but told me to reapply. .............................. VO..So Where are you going? Me...Am going to Prairie View A&M university to do my Msc degree in General Engr. with concentration in *Construction management* ......................... Vo..why construction management? Me.... having worked with a construction firm for some years now, where I am involved in planning, cost estimating, coordinating , organising & supervision of construction works, I discovered that Building failure & project abandonment is one of the major challenges facing the construction sector of Nigeria, and me going for this degree will definitely give me more knowledge & skills to be a good project manager upon my return to Nigeria to promote safety & efficiency in the construction industry here in Nigeria. ................................... Vo.....how many schools did u apply & how many admits? Me.... 3 schools namely-: PVAMU, ETSU & Oregon state University and got admitted in PVAMU and OSU.
Vo... So why did u choose PVAMU? Me....I chose PVAMU because the department currently houses the center for research in structural & environment sustainablity and this aligns with the area of my research interest, and 2ndly the tuition fees is quite affordable compared to other schools i applied & meets my Dad's budget for my education. .............................. Vo....what's ur high school degree & when did u graduate?
Me... I have a Bsc in quantity surveying at IMO state University and graduated in 2013 but the degree was awarded in 2014 due to ASUU strike which lasted upto a year. .................................. Vo...what have u been doing since then?
Me...After my compulsory 1 year national service in 2015, I was retained in the construction company where I served for my place of primary assignment as the assistant cost estimator & construction manager. .…............................. Vo...Did u write any exam? Me...yes, I wrote GRE. VO...Let me see the result sheet Me....I brought out the result and pass to her, then I will tell her that my scoring low (282) in the exam was because i didn't prepare well for the exam due to my work schedule as i go to work even on Saturdays & return very late, though having met with the requirements of the schls, I was offered admission. .............................. Vo...what's your degree plan like?
Me...the course is scheduled to last for 21 months, (approximately two years)and I have to complete a total of 33 unit credit hours and maintain a minimum of 3.0GpA prio to graduation in the following courses÷ 1.cost management of the construction process- 3Chr 2. Innovation in construction - 3Chr 3. Sustainability facility system -3Chr 4. Sustainability infrastructural system- 3Chr and etc.
................................... Vo..so who is ur sponsor and what does he/do? Me...My father, and he's works in XYZ company And also owns a Large Bookshop in Munshi , where he did supplies to top private schools in mushi & Ikeja area of Lagos.
Vo...your Visa has been approved. Me...Amen ooo
Pls read , critisise and point out my flaws. Looking foward to hearing from everybody* |

alaga4040: Interview on AUG 8, Visa Delayed
Vo: Good Morning Me: Good morning
Vo: Tell me about your program and why you choose to study it Me: (NB: my I-20 isn’t stating my exact course of study so I explain to her)
Vo: okay, tell me about your preferred course of study Me: Information Assurance & Security involves protecting information and information systems from unauthorized use, access, disruption, destruction and modification in order to provide integrity, availability….she cuts in
Vo: Why did you choose to study it? Me: I have an undergraduate degree in computer science and during my finals, I worked on a project on credit card fraud detection using hidden markov model. Ever since, I’ve been interested in tackling online fraud activities and however, my late dad and uncle who is my sponsor both had a fintech company, the fintech company is an online payment gateway company which is in line in operation with my current place of work, the company has been down for a while. So getting this degree would let me gain more technical knowledge and improve my practical skills needed in relaunching this start up alongside my uncle when I get back to Nigeria which is the primary reason why my uncle is sponsoring me. And however, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics report shows that over $54bn worth of electronic payments were made in the second quarter of 2017 of which a large percentage were reported to be fraudulent. With the growth of SMEs in Nigeria and Africa at large, there is need for Information Assurance Specialist in tackling this setback.
Vo: How did you hear about the school? Me: When I was doing my final year project on CREDIT CARD FRAUD DETECTION USING HIDDEN MARKOV MODEL, I sourced journals and publications written by Dr Joseph Elarde who later introduced me to Dr Jiang Li, both being associate professors at the department of computer science at APSU. Their contributions were so immense that ever since I had always wanted to be under their tutelage.
Vo: how many schools did you apply to? Me: 2, AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY & MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY. (both schools are in the same state, TENNESSEE)
Vo: What are the similarities between the two school? Me: (I wasn’t expecting this question…….i think she asked this because I chose the same course for both schools) I can’t really remember what I said but I know I said something about both their curriculum fitting my career goals.
Vo: Why did you choose APSU over MTSU? Me: When I was doing my final year project on CREDIT CARD FRAUD DETECTION USING HIDDEN MARKOV MODEL, I sourced journals and publication written by Dr Joseph Elarde who later introduced me to Dr Jiang Li, both being professors at the department of computer science at APSU. Their contributions were so immense that ever since I had always wanted to be under their tutelage. More so, my application at MTSU was still being processed at the time APSU gave me admission.
Vo: Why didn’t you wait for the admission at MTSU? Me: The resumption date for APSU was getting close and I didn’t want to miss out on it.
Vo: Do you have a relative in Tennessee? Me: Yes, my brother (and my mum, I didn’t mention this but I filled it in my DS-160 form, my brother is a US CITIZEN while my mum is a LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT)
Vo: Why did you choose two schools in the same state? Me: (I think this was where the problem started, I wasn’t expecting this question) i said jargons but I know I said or mentioned it was a coincidence. (she tilted her ear like she didn’t hear what I said)
Vo: Are you married Me: NO
Vo: Do you have kids? Me: NO
Vo: Sorry you do not qualify for………………………….you know the rest Me: I just waked away
I want to defer my admission at APSU to spring semester and start applying for the visa again. Am I to pay another SEVIS fee? Or do I just request for another i-20 and pay for the visa fee? My brother said he wants me over there this year. My brother has been in the US since 2008, he entered through the visa lottery scheme. He graduated from MTSU in 2014, I think this was the point I missed out in the interview.
As I’m preparing for the next interview what are the points I need to pitch, indeed your candid advice. Thanks. Your transcript was superb, I guess u would have been approved but revealing to the V.O that Your brother is a permanent resident of USA shows that u are not coming back after your studies(no strong home ties) . 2ndly applying to two schools in the same state is also a sign that you have an hidden agender. My observations though. |

Ekebs: Brothers and Sisters, finally I received my passport with F-1 visa on it. Believe me, it wasn’t easy, but I give God all the Glory. After fasting, praising and praying to God for 2 weeks, I went for the interview on 16th of July, 2018 at the US embassy in Abuja. Time allotted to me was 7.30am but I was there before 7am. After all the security check, I took my time, used the restroom before going in . After the biometrics, I joined the queue. I was interviewed by the “not too young lady”, and she was so nice to me. See my Transcript below:
Me: Good morning Ma VO: Good morning, can I have your passport and I-20. Me: Brought it out and passed it to her VO: I can see you are going to Prairie View A & M University? Me: Yes Ma VO: I can see you are going to study Engineering? Me: Yes Ma, with concentration in Environmental Engineering VO: why Environmental Engineering? Me: Because Environment is the only life support system given to mankind by the creature. I am from the Niger Delta region where we have a lot of oil spills due to oil exploration and exploitation. Currently, we have black soot problem all over the city. I studied Agricultural Engineering in my ist degree and it helped me to understand the concept and importance of the environment. Courses like Land use, land reclamation, land reuse, salination, and soil conservation are all environmental related courses of agricultural engineering. So I am going to learn how to use engineering principles in solving environmental challenges. Globally, the world has shifted… (VO cuts in, you don’t need to tell me much about the environment, I know it all). That time I know say wetin I talk make sense sha… VO: When did you graduate from the University? Me: December 2015. After that, I went for one year NYSC from May 2016 to April 2017, after that I started work with XYZ Company from May 2017 up to date, there I am in charge of the Environmental Impact Assessment, I supervise on-going projects awarded to the company, I write milestone report, I am in charge of Environmental researches and also I supervise erosion and flood-affected sites. The woman was nodding and typing… VO: What were you doing before going for your NYSC? Me: I was doing a volunteer work at my Uncle’s organization at XYZ Company VO: Do you mean that you finished your NYSC in April 2017 and immediately you got a job in May, 2017. Me: Yes ma, what happened was that doing my Volunteer work at my Uncle’s organization, I met the MD of the Company I’m currently working with and he asked me to resume work with them after my NYSC. She was busy typing o, and I was busy calling on God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to come to my rescue. VO: How many Schools did you apply to? Me: 4, Texas A & M, Louisiana University, Temple University and Prairie A & M University. VO: Why PVAMU? Me: My undergraduate supervisor who was my project supervisor did a research in the University so he strongly recommended the school to me. VO: Did you write GRE? Me: No ma, It was waived as per initial requirement, but the school said I will write it in my first semester because they use to save it in their database. She nodded her head. I was still calling on the Holy Spirit… VO: Who is so so person (that’s the name of my sponsor) Me: He’s my uncle. VO: What does he do? Me: He's a civil engineer, and works with the .... company VO: Can I see his bank statement. Me: I passed it to her; the bank statement has a closing balance of over $60k. Just about 5lines of 1page. VO: We normally require 6months bank statement, but what you have here is 3months. She brought out yellow paper, checked that I should submit my International passport, 6+ months bank statement of the person paying and letter of support to DHL office she circled. She continued, if found fraudulent, you will be banned from entering the US for 10years. She said I will be placed on AP. Me: In affirmation, yes ma.
And that was it o. I left happy, with a smiling face, at least en better pass blue paper… lol I flew back to Port Harcourt that evening. I submitted the required documents at Port Harcourt DHL on the 17th July, it got to the embassy on the 18th July, my case was updated on the 20th of July, 25th of July, and finally 1st of August and it was issued on the 2nd of August, and today the 3rd of August, I picked up my passport. Brothers and sisters, It’s not easy to be placed on AP for over two weeks o , High BP fit catch person o… lol
IT WAS GOD WHO DID IT. I GIVE HIM ALL THE GLORY. Special thanks to the wonderful people on this platform. Blessings!!! Thank you osiokoye, lalahhh, for your encouragement and prayers; judgepelumi, I pray they issue yours soon. Congrats my guy. What a wonderful transcript. I tapped into ur blesssing |

lalahhh: Im sorry but my post will be long. I decided to post this after seeing that my AP status changed to issued. First I’ll like to thank God for everything, Sorelee I thank you so so much, words can’t express how grateful I am to you. Ubah1 thank you for encouraging me. Kekenation thank you too. You guys are amazing. I have been to the embassy 7 times , 4 times last year and 3 times this year. I don’t think my last year’s transcripts would be necessary. So here’s my first interview transcript for this year. Me- Good morning VO- pass me your I 20 and passport VO- where are you going to? Me- North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina for my masters in( VO cuts in) VO- what are you going for? Me- My Masters Degree in History VO- how did you get this assistantship? Me- The department’s Chair was impressed with my GRE, my transcript, statement of purpose and essay. VO- so why did you change course and school ? Me- sorry? I didn’t get that. VO- the last time you were here you were wanted to go to Arcadia so why change to NCCU? Me- Arcadia gave me partial scholarship while NCCU gave me the full ride and in NCCU, I get to minor in courses related to Peace and Conflict Resolution. VO- so who would pay for other expenses Me- I have family funds VO-which family? Me- My Uncle VO- what does he do? Me - he works with the Kwara state government, at the Lower Niger River Basin. VO- where does he live? Me- Kwara state She looks at the I 20 for a while then drops it She asked for bank statement which I gave to her She stared at it for a while , typed somethings ... In my mind I was just praying , then she asked VO- why is your Uncle paying Me- my parents sent his to school so this is more like a more thank you and he has the money VO- how many siblings do you have ? Me- 5 VO- which Uncle would be paying for them? Me- I am the last child VO - what’s the name of your Uncle Me- I said his name Then she picked up the I 20 again .... looked at it again and asked VO- are you married? Me- NO I’m not VO- do you have children? Me - No I don’t Then she finally said I’m sorry you are not found eligible at this time. This was lagos embassy. I was advised to try Abuja embassy and I did. Interview was for June 30th. VO- Good morning , Pass your I-20 Me- Answered her while passing it. VO- I see you have been denied in Lagos , why come to Abuja ? Me- after being denied I informed the school and I was asked to please try again but I checked Lagos embassy and I couldn’t get an early date but I got here in Abuja. VO- while nodding her head, what are you going to do in United States of America Me- I’m going for my masters in History in North Carolina Central University VO- how many schools did you apply to? Me- 4. University of Wyoming, Texas A&M, North Carolina A&T and NCCU. VO- I see you have full tuition waver Me - Ohh yes while opening all my 36 Then she picked up the white paper, in my mind I was saying Ohhh yes, come to Mama... I’m right here baby , then she looked at me my heartbeat increased rapidly. VO- where is you sister Me - Confused n lost .... sorry? VO- I said where is your sister? Me- she’s in USA on OTP VO- why isn’t she back? When did she travel? When is her date of birth? When did she travel? Me- ahhhh I don’t know the answers to all these questions.. we are not so close VO- wait I’m trying to help you out here Me - shaking, already disorganized Then she finally said it ... I’m sorry I won’t be issuing your visa. Me - why? What’s wrong? So I got home, with the mind of this is the end , called my sister and explained everything to her . She explained the part I mixed and begged me to go one more time, reluctantly I said ok. Luckily for me, we got July 19th on that same day. Truthfully I wasn’t so hyped about the last interview, I was dressed casually. I got interviewed by this middle aged woman on Ankara. A very nice woman I must add infact the nicest VO I ever came across. So here is the third transcript Me- Goodmorning VO- Good morning, you passport and I-20 please I gave it to her VO - ohhh NCCU Me - yeah North Carolina Central University VO- so who’s sponsoring you? Me- I have full tuition waver and family support VO- family support? Me- yea my uncle. VO- what does he do? Me- he works with Kwara state Government at the Lower Niger River Basin VO- Kwara state? Me- yea Kwara state. VO- where is that on the map? While looking at her map Me- can you see Oyo state? It’s right beside Oyo state. VO- ohhh wow , I can see it now . VO- I see you have been denied twice , what has changed about your application? Me- the last time I came here , i noticed the VO kept asking me questions about my sister that I didn’t know about and she ended up denying me. I went home, called my sister and she explained everything to me. VO- so explain it to me too Me- I did . Told her everything VO- you see the main reason why you have been denied all these while is because of your family history, you sister finished school and she didn’t return. Me- but she’s still in OTP and that’s my sister not me VO- i know and that’s why it’s called family history . il do you a favour , il overlook it Me- thank you so much VO- wait Me - in my mind, mo daran kilotun sele bayii VO- il place you on AP , if we find anything fraudulent about your documents, you will be banned from entering the USA for life. Me - No wahala , they are all real. VO- Are you sure? make sure you travel before classes starts or else you will be turned back at the port of entry. Me - ok ma’am. Thank you . Please can I pick up a tissue VO - sure please do, take as much as u need . Me- picked up the tissue and left I might have forgotten some questions asked sha but this is all I can remember. I have found this thread really helpful. The main thing is be well prepared, be organized and learn from people. Thank you so much once again Sorelee Ubah1 Kekenation Ekebs I really hope they issue yours too soon. No be small thing ooo, Congrsts man...but how did the VO Know your sisters stays in the US. did u mentioned your sis in your DS-160? |

Nahum777: The bold was not a very great answer. You picked the school because of its affordability and not its quality, at least you should have presented a strong argument and then chip in the affordability talk. Find a way to relate your course with the school, how will the school help you grow in that specific course? Is there a specific professor who caught your attention and is doing really well in your area of interest? Did the school give you funding? How can their program help you achieve your goals? You have to personalize your answers, these VOs hear the same crap every single day and they might deny you for responding the same way 1million people have responded in the past without having a personal story that relates to you alone. Thanks bro |

Tohlou: I have been a silent reader here since January that I started putting in my applications and also wrote the GRE and well didn’t do well that much but regardless I still got admitted into all the schools I applied to. Thanks to the people I have reached out to here and they attended to me, most in particular Aanexplus’s God bless you brother for all the advice and corrections which all ended in success, you’re much appreciated boss.
Interview was on Friday 13th July 2018, prior to that day I remember the fear and emotional roller coaster the preparation was but few days to the interview proper the confidence came after several coaching from My PFL Ideas people amazing guys really and also fasting and prayer without ceasing.
Got to the embassy for 6am waited till 20mins to 7 for my 7am interview, I was bold, courageous and optimistic that I got my visa approved already and I acted accordingly, no single element of fear that day. I was interviewed by the nice young white guy at windows 5 no hassle no stress absolute gentleman, even though people that went ahead got blue paper and it was flying left right and center I wasn’t even bothered I just said in my mind today we die here I’m getting my visa from here and grace and faith spoke on my behalf. Another set of prayers started and fasting too Lord let my case change before Tuesday o and as the Lord will have it Early Monday morning my case changed from AP to issued I almost ran mad lol. Truly it pays to serve the Lord he is still in the business of men.
