PoliticsPOLITICS2019 Presidency: Atiku Asks Buhari 14 Questions by chigozie2018(op): 8:52am On Oct 11, 2018
The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, has hit at President Muhammadu Buhari again raising 14 questions for the President and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Atiku’s camp said the government and the ruling party had abandoned governance and taken up the full duty of hurling insults at the former Vice President.

In a statement by the spokesman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Segun Sowunmi, on Wednesday, the former Vice President charged the government and the APC to name one project started and completed by Buhari, one youth in the cabinet or one terrorist arrested and convicted by the government, among other things.

“It has come to our attention that the Buhari government and the All Progressives Congress have been very idle of late, which explains their abandonment of the vital duties of running the government in order to focus on hurling insults and false accusations on the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

The statement added, “In order to give Nigerians the answers they want, we urge the Buhari Campaign Organisation to take the #BuhariChallenge and answer the following questions.

“Name one project initiated, started and completed in the last three years by the Buhari administration.

“Name one youth in President Buhari’s cabinet.

“Name one campaign promise President Buhari has kept.

“Name one Southerner heading a National Intelligence Agency under Buhari.

“Name one terrorist arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration.

“Name one Buhari government official arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration over their many budget padding scandals.

“Name one member of the Buhari administration fingered in corruption that was fired, arrested and currently facing trial.

“Name one former President or Head of State that has not been blamed by President Buhari for the precarious state of the economy he led us into.

“Name one year that Nigeria’s GDP grew faster than her population under Buhari (for 16 years of PDP administrations, Nigeria’s GDP always grew faster than population growth).

“Name the initiatives the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria being named the world headquarters for extreme poverty under Buhari.

“Name one initiative the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria having the world’s highest number of out of school children (13.2 million according to the United Nations Children Fund).

“Name the date the Ogoni cleanup will begin. · Name what President Buhari has done with the ₦13 trillion loans he has taken in 3 years (compared to the ₦6 trillion borrowed by the PDP in 16 years).

“Name the real owners of the Ikoyi Apartment billions.

“These are the issues the Nigerian people want to hear about, not insults from a Presidency and a party that have spent three years in office only to preside over Nigeria’s first ever recession in 25 years.

“We urge the Buhari administration to remember that it is this disinterest in real governance and focus on trivia that caused Bill Gates to look President Buhari in the eye and tell him that ‘your economic blueprint does not address Nigerians’ needs’.

“The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation runs an issue based campaign where refined language and cerebral arguments founded on facts are used to disseminate the vision of our candidate which is why we call on the Buhari Campaign Organisation to waste no time in taking the #BuhariChallenge in clearing the air on these knotty issues bothering the minds of Nigerians.”

PoliticsNewswhy Nigeria May Become World’s Capital Of Poverty, Slum – Emir Sanusi by chigozie2018(op): 8:56am On Oct 08, 2018
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Lamido Sanusi II, has raised the alarm that Nigeria may become the world capital of poverty and slum of the world within the next 30 years as a result of policy deficit if proactive steps were not taken by the government to avert the impending tragedies.

Sanusi gave the warning while speaking after he was inducted as a honorary member of the Sigma Club of the University of Ibadan at an event held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital at the weekend.

He said, “One of the sessions I missed sadly, of which I got its reports, was a session anchored by Bill Gate, in which he spoke about global poverty and declining global poverty. What he tried to do was to throw attention of the world to the fact that sometimes when we look at big numbers and don’t break them down to regions, we miss important issues.

“According projections, if every country continues its present trajectory, by 2050, eighty per cent of all the poor people in the world will live on the African continent. But that is not the frightening thing. One half of this 80 per cent, will be in Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo. Two countries will account for 40 per cent of all the poor people in the world, and Nigeria will therefore remain the poverty capital of the world. This is a country that has produced many great people. This is a country that has boasted of best professors, greatest intellectuals, and the most educated people. Why is it that China, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea. People forgot that in 1960, United States advisory was that investors should come to Nigeria and not Japan because Nigeria had better prospects.

“In 1960, the per capital income in Nigeria was higher that what it was in South Korea, and China. My father was the first ambassador of Nigeria to China in 1972. In 1972, he had to go to Hong Kong every two weeks to by essential commodities because they were not available in Beijing. He could not find milk, sugar and cornflakes in Beijing, he had to go to Hong Kong in 1972, not 100 years ago. In 1974, when Deng Xiaoping started opening up in China, there were 700 million Chinese living in extreme poverty. Today, that number is down to only 30 million people in one generation. In 1974, China had only 8million university graduates. Today, China has more than 300 million university graduates, more than the entire population of the United States of America. Yet, China did not have direct foreign investments; in fact China stopped it.

“We talk about miracles, ancient miracles. I don’t like the word miracles because miracles are associated with angels with wings that you do not see, coming from the sky. The Chinese are human beings like us and they did it. When we say miracle, it sounds like something supernatural that has some certain powers to it. Everytime you think about it, the only deficit we have is a policy deficit. We have elections in 2019, I read the papers, I look at the television, and listen to the discussions, who is talking about education? Who is talking about nutrition? Who is talking about basic health? As a country, what are our priorities? We don’t have enough money for education. We don’t have enough money for health. We don’t have enough money for nutrition. But we have N1trillion or N2trillion to spend on petroleum subsidies. Where is our sense of what is important, and where is our investment in the future?

“So, for all Nigerians who care about this country, the real task before us is to know that we have 30 years on the outside in which we need to make sure that we do not become the poverty capital of the world, and slum of the world.

“We say we are oil rich in this country because we forget simple arithmetic. Saudi Arabia is oil rich because the country produces one barrel of oil for every three citizens everyday. They produce 10million barrels of oil and their population is 30million. In Nigeria, we produce two million barrels of oil for a population of 200 million.

“It is one barrel for every 100 Nigerians; one barrel for education, health, security, power, and agriculture. It is $50 for 100 million people really. The earlier we realise that we are not an oil rich country, the better. But we are a country rich in human resources and human capital. The earlier we realise that countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong in China, Singapore and Israel have become what they have become, not because they have found oil or diamond or gold, but because they have realised the values of human beings. The earlier we begin to take the path that will change this very sad trajectory, the better for us.

“We should keep those numbers at the back of our minds because that is the future of our children and the future of our grandchildren. And only we, only this generation can take decisions that are necessary to make sure that future is averted and becomes a better one. I am sure everyone here is committed to this. I certainly will remain committed to it. I hope we can all work together and build this country, and make it a country that we all know it can be. We know that Nigeria can be great. We all know it. All those seeking political office, we hope will begin to join us, and we will continue to urge those outside politics to exert the right pressure on those in government to give us these policies, these thinking because that is the future of this country.

“If you take Kano alone, today 58 per cent of all children under the age of five in Kano State suffer from chronic malnutrition. Out of that, 17 per cent has acute malnutrition. Globally, nine per cent is a crisis, but we have 17 per cent. Forty eight per cent of the children of all women of reproductive age suffer from anemia, iron deficiency. We have almost four million children out of school. We have one of the highest infant mortality and maternal mortality rate in the country. These are the kinds of things that are not even featuring in political discourse. These are issues that confront us and these are the issues we must address to avert that future that has been so very tragically by Bill Gate and other economists.

“So, I remain hopeful, and I am an incurable optimist. I still believe that it is not too late and when you look at countries like China that has done it, I believe it can be done in Nigeria. You can just look at what Lagos has done to itself. You can look at Rwanda, which has just come out of war. You can look like Ethiopia. Look at Kenya of recent. You can look at Ghana and Senegal.

“Within Africa, we are having countries that are becoming excellent examples of what we can do with just a little bit of good thinking, combined with the right values. Our people have the ability, they are resilient, had working and intelligence to do it. I do hope that these values will lead the way in transforming this country.”

PoliticsPOLITICS2019: Abe Dares Amaechi, Oshiomhole-led APC, Says Battle Just Began by chigozie2018(op): 8:45am On Oct 08, 2018
Magnus Abe has dared former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, stating that the battle for who flies the party’s flag for the 2019 governorship election in the state has just begun.

He blamed the Transportation Minister, Amaechi, for the crisis rocking the state’s APC.

Abe emerged the candidate of the party in a direct primary conducted in the state by the Peter Odike-led APC.

He rejected the adoption of Tonye Cole as the governorship candidate of the APC by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.

Abe spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, weekend, following Cole’s adoption based on the report of the Governorship Primaries Committee that supervised the indirect process in the state.

The Ogoni-born lawmaker said, “I am sure you are all aware of the current decision of the NWC of our party which accepted the report that returned Tonye Cole elected, based on the indirect primary conducted in the state.

“The battle has just begun. The party has set up an appeal. We will take advantage of the appeal panel and forward our case.

“The result of the indirect primary remains unacceptable and will remain unacceptable. The indirect primary was a charade set up by a few individuals to bring in their candidate. We will not accept that result.

“We are now faced with a fact that a man who just joined the party can claim to be a candidate of the party. This is against the wish of everybody who has worked for the party.

“I don’t have anything against Tonye Cole because he is my friend. But we are politicians and we are fighting for justice. Without truth there can be no justice and without justice there can be no peace.

“This is the situation we have talked and warned about, when the Minister of Transportation called a meeting of the party and started the event that has resulted to this.”

PoliticsPOLITICS2019: We Didn’t Step Down For Buhari – APC Presidential Aspirants Blow H by chigozie2018(op): 10:02am On Oct 07, 2018
POLITICS 2019: We didn’t step down for Buhari – APC presidential aspirants blow hot.

A coalition of presidential aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected the results of primaries of the party of September 28.

The results saw President Muhammadu Buhari emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

The aspirants made their position known in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Mumakhhai Unagha and Dr S.K Ogbonnia.

According to the aspirants, it was wrong for the party to declare Buhari as its sole presidential candidate.

Their statement said, “We, the presidential aspirants under the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the 2019 general elections, henceforth, referred to as the Coalition Of The 2019 APC Presidential Aspirants, hereby reject the APC presidential primary election purportedly held on the 28th day of September, 2018.”

“The claim that Buhari is unopposed as the flag-bearer of the APC for the 2019 elections was not only grossly disingenuous but also a figment of the imagination latent lackeys grandstanding as presidential handlers.

“The truth is that we neither stepped down for the president nor suspended our ambition to be president on the platform of the APC in 2019.

“Buhari is merely being imposed, but such plot will fail,” the statement continued.

“Second, denying qualified citizens their right to seek public office is constitutionally ultra vires.

“Neither the Constitution of the Federal Republic nor the Constitution of the APC promotes prohibitive nomination fees, which the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Executive Committee is employing to exclude thousands of party faithful, particularly the youth and women, from exercising their right to seek public office.

“Neither the Constitution of the Federal Republic nor the Constitution of the APC recognizes the bogus clause, Right To First Refusal, which the party leadership assumed to sideline Buhari’s fellow aspirants from the presidential primary.

“It is also worthy of note that, while the idea of the ‘right to first refusal’ is promoted for the executive office of the president, the opposite is the case for the executive offices of the governors where notable relatives of party leaders, including Buhari’s in-laws, are aspirants.

“Third and very critically, there was no level playing ground in the party’s screening exercise.

“While serving ministers and governors were subjected to a rigorous screening exercise, no attempt was made whatsoever to re-evaluate President Buhari’s qualifications, with special attention to his educational and other certificates, state of health, fidelity to the party as well as national principles in context of the Nigerian multiethnic state, and much more.”

PoliticsNewsnew Minimum Wage: Why Nigerian Workers May Not Get Demand – APC Chieftain by chigozie2018(op): 9:00am On Oct 07, 2018
Second republic senator, Chief Olorunnimbe Farukanmi, on Saturday said the N50,000 minimum wage being demanded by Nigerian workers may not be realised soon.

The former lawmaker noted that the labour unions have been asking for N50,000 minimum, which he said would be 250 per cent increment based on the current N18,000.

Farukanmi, Chairman, Elders Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, told Nation: “It is evidently clear that some of the various levels of governments in existence presently owe their workers over 10 months salary arrears.

“It means that if some local and state governments are unable to meet up the N18,000 especially as sources of revenue generation are dwindling, the proposed N50,000 per month demanded by the labour force, if acceded can never be met by these present government”

The APC stalwart said the negotiation on the demands of the labour unions for over N50,000 as the national minimum wage has been on for many years without any resolution.

The elder statesman warned that new minimum wage of N50,000 would cause another economic recession in the country, as it would lead to general increase in the prices of all commodities and food stuff.

He said: “The labour Unions should ensure that this nation does not slip into recession again since every Nigerian is aware of the fact that Nigeria derives majority of its revenue from oil and gas, but with the large scale reduction in the prices of oil in the world market, the country’s revenue has reduced drastically.

“At a time when the economy should be strengthened with a stable naira as against encouraging further inflation, to embark on a stable naira as against encouraging further inflation, to embark on a 250 per cent wage increase will be enormously detrimental to the successful growth of the economy.”

PoliticsPOLITICS2019: Oby Ezekwesili Formally Declares For Presidency, Gives Reasons by chigozie2018(op): 8:38am On Oct 07, 2018
Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has formally declared her intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ezekwesili made the declaration in a statement titled, ‘Why I am running for the Office of President’ on Saturday.

She promised to announce her political party of choice on Sunday, vowing to build an army of patriots willing to pull down the stronghold, “that is, the two failed dominant political parties in Nigeria – the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.”

According to her, it is way past time for Nigerians to unify and mobilise nationwide to rescue Nigeria from mediocrity and enthrone excellence as the guiding standard.

Ezekwesili statement reads, “The pain of seeing us become a country where the worth of life is trending down to zero, sadness that we are now known as the world poverty capital with 87 million extremely poor Nigerians, and anguish at the increase in the number of out-of-school children constitute a driving force for seeking the office of the President.

“Trust in public officials completely waned, angst knowing that only 10 per cent out of three to four million young people entering the employment market every year will likely find jobs, and concern about the future of Nigeria as a strong indivisible nation are the issues that have also compelled me.

“I have fully persuaded myself to lead a people’s movement that will permanently terminate bad leadership, ethnic and religious divisions, mediocrity, and failures in governance. We, the people of Nigeria, shall run together and win.”

On why she is running for presidency, she said, “Our political class continues with self-absorbed attitude of seeing power as an end in itself, thereby producing no material improvement in the lives of citizens. This compelled a change of direction for me.

“It is time to make citizens’ wellbeing the core focus of political leadership. It is time to reclaim our values that have become distorted and reduced Nigeria and Nigerians to ridicule by the rest of the world. It is time for leaders to offer exemplary and sacrificial service that will mobilise our people to build a cohesive, stable, and prosperous society in which every Nigerian has a stake.

“I want to run for, and win the 2019 presidential election to serve and put the citizens first by mobilising and taking decisive actions on a number of big ideas that will help all of us build an exceptional nation that our future generation will be proud to call their own.”

PoliticsPOLITICS2019: Donald Duke Floors Jerry Gana, Others To Win SDP Residential Ticke by chigozie2018(op): 8:18am On Oct 07, 2018
Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has emerged presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2019 general elections.

According to NAN, Duke polled 812 votes to defeat his close rival, former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, who polled 611 votes at the party’s National Convention held at Old Parade Ground, Abuja.

The Convention Returning Officer, Dr Abdul Isiaq, declaring the results of the presidential primary election at the early hours of Sunday, said Mr. John Dara, former Special Assistant to Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma, former Defence Minister, scored 104 votes.

He also announced that former Ambassador and former Minister, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher

polled 72 votes; former Ambassador, Felix Osakwe scored 10 votes, while the number of invalid votes was 63.

Duke in his acceptance speech, described his emergence as collective victory for all aspirants that participated in the contest, as well for the party and the nation.

He said that primary was just a step in the contest, saying he will go through the nation to campaign and sell the party and it’s polices to citizens.

Duke called for the support of all aspirants, the party officials and Nigerians to win 2019 general election, saying “we will reawaken in Nigerians that yearning that we are destined to be, but we cannot do this alone.”

He said that Nigeria was not a divided nation but a country of common purpose.

“What divides us is inadequacy and wants, because in the face of this survival of the fittest comes in, which ought not to be so because there is more than enough for everyone.”

He said if Nigerians were productive and abide by rules and regulations, the nation would grow from strength to strength.

“This is what good governance is all about and that is what I stand for,” he added.
